  1. Smack1968 Says:

This poll taken over 7 days, with Registered voters, matches Gallup numbers.

  2. Matt "MWS" Says:

Suppose the primary came down to a choice between Rick Santorum and Mitt Romney, for whom would you vote?

    •Rick Santorum 50%
    •Mitt Romney 37%
    •Don’t know 13%

    Ouch.

  3. eddy Says:

POLL from 14th to the 20th. lets see one from the 20th to 27th, that will tell alot more.

  4. William Says:

Things are much different today, they will be even more different after the debate tonight and Romney’s Economic Speech on Friday. Followed by his victories next Tuesday and he will be back on top.

  5. MarqueG Says:

Uh-oh. Someone went through all the trouble of comparing Mitt’s pro-choice/pro-life “convictions”:

    http://www.slatev.com/video/romneys-abortion-record-spin-vs-truth/

  6. Smack1968 Says:

Mitt has put out a new slogan today for his campaign.

    “Restore Americas’s Promise”

Mitt is making his team of consultants work for their money.

  7. William Says:

    Smack

    Nice, I like it!

  8. Dr J Says:

Not to worry. After Santorum gets beaten down, we can always fall back on Ron Paul.

  9. Liz Says:

Santorum said he was Pro-Choice his whole life…and then he decided to run for public office. Whoopsie.

  10. Smack1968 Says:

    Matt “MWS”,

Newt’s candidacy is the best thing happening for Mitt right now. Does Newt have what it takes to take a step back from his ego and get out of the race after Super Tuesday?

  11. Liz Says:

Ron Paul – all the gay marriage, prostitution, and drugs you can handle. Has a ring to it.

  12. Liz Says:

10 Good question, Smack. No. He doesn’t. What would he do then, go home and answer to Callista about all the open marriage stuff? He’s staying in until the bitter end.

  13. Watchinitall Says:

25% of those polled say they have been for Romney since 2007. The 75% of those left over say they’ve supported Rick Santorum ever since last week, but they feel a little bad for X, Y, Z, and someone else they can’t recall, each of whom they whole-heartedly rallied behind over the course of the last 12 weeks.

  14. RayinRI Says:

LMAO, look at Palin……Jack must be pulling his hair out!!

  15. Matt "MWS" Says:

    Marque,

    #5

That’s pretty damning, but clearly, that reporter is a bigot. You can tell by all the differnt Romney quotes he used.

  16. Dave Says:

    Marque,

Saletan is totally obtuse. His narration doesn’t match up with the clips in significant ways. There is nothing new here….it’s all been repeated over and over.

What matches up is Romney’s oft-acknowledged view that he’s become more conservative with the years.

  17. Firecracker (Romney/ West/ Christie/ Huckabee/ Rand Paul) Says:

Just for the record, Santorum dropped back into single digits on Intrade to win the nomination, and is now below 30% to win Michigan.

  18. Matt "MWS" Says:

    Smack,

“Does Newt have what it takes to take a step back from his ego and get out of the race after Super Tuesday?”

Never underestimate the power of Newt’s ego.

I suppose it depends whether Newt finds it more humiliating to drop out, or get thumped in every remaining primary.

  19. James from TX Says:

The degree to which national polls matter (which is not very much), this poll is out of date and measures Santorum at his height.

  20. Smack1968 Says:

“What matches up is Romney’s oft-acknowledged view that he’s become more conservative with the years.”

…….as in Mitt has become more Conservative when it helped him personally in a political sense.

Santorum loses by 18 points in 2006 when he proudly proclaims himself a Conservative when it wasn’t popular..something Mitt would have never done.

Yes, Mitt has become more Conservative in the last 2 months of his Governorship and his 6 years of being unemployed (Mitts words-not mind)..congrats……not impressive

  21. Watchinitall Says:

Looks like every time Newt’s campaign uses a list of voters generated by one of his business entities, Newt’s campaign owes Newt’s entities really big bucks. With a single donor giving millions, Newt is in the strange but enviable position to bill himself and pay himself with someone else’s money.

If this guy can’t solve our deficit crisis, I don’t know who can.

  22. Smack1968 Says:

“this poll is out of date”

People here at RACE42012 are starting to demand real time numbers coming in from polling companies to be relevant…HOLY SMOKE!!

  23. mitch Says:

Santorum, despite his reputation as a conservative stalwart, had a keen interest in providing disadvantaged families greater access to affordable housing.

In 2005, when Banking Committee Republicans were trying to tighten the regulation of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, Santorum pushed to include language in the legislation that would strengthen their affordable-housing goals.

“We’re very concerned about making sure that we do things in working with this legislation to improve the access to affordable housing,” Santorum said during a July 28, 2005 hearing on the Senate bill.

He added that he wanted to orient Fannie and Freddie “toward taking a more active role in creating housing opportunities for low and moderate income families.”

    http://www.americanbanker.com/issues/177_6/Rick-Santorum-Fannie-Mae-Freddie-Mac-1045542-1.html

When will the media vet Santorum on fiscal issues. They know if they brought out his big government ideas he would drop like a rock. They are purposefully focusing on social issues to keep him propped up until the general election when he will be portrayed as a big government liberal.

  24. Malinda Says:

While I like these numbers I dont trust this polling firm. Rasmussen and PPP are way more predictive and also show Santorum leading. Romney needs a face transplant if he want to become president and also needs a new voice so we wont know its liberal mitt.
Maybe Romney can go back to MA now

  25. machtyn Says:

    20. Wait, what? Santorum ran on extremely conservative principals in 2006 and lost? The few ads I’ve seen from that campaign is Rick trying to claim his moderate positions.

Perhaps I am wrong and he did campaign on his proud Conservatism. The problem is that the voters saw right threw that facade of his deficit spending and debt increases.

  26. Dave Says:

The last 2 questions asked are literally insane. Karl Rove opined that there’s a better chance that there’s life on Pluto than that the Republican nomination will go to someone not running.

  27. machtyn Says:

    grr.. threw = through.

  28. aspire Says:

23 The thing is Santorum’s whole deal is that he’s for whatever sounds like it will help families. So houses for families that can’t afford them sounds good to him.

  29. SixMom Says:

Can’t wait to see this same poll in about 2-3 weeks.

    :)

    Oh yes.

  30. aspire Says:

25 I have yet to see the proud conservative ads that Santorum ran.

  31. Killjoy Says:

    Rasmussen Poll – Oklahoma

    Santorum 43%
    Gingrich 22%
    Romney 18%

yep… all that social conservative talk sure is hurting Santorum with the Republican base…

    lol

    http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/elections/election_2012/election_2012_presidential_election/oklahoma/2012_oklahoma_republican_primary

  32. Dave Says:

There were several reasons Santorum lost so big in Pennsylvania….he lost part of the base because of his big spending, pro-Union activities…..he was living out of state…..he got his Pennsylvania school district to pay for his kids’ Virginia education….he was named one of the 3 most corrupt Senators in the country…..he seemed awfully uptight…..etc.

It wasn’t because he ran proudly as a Conservative.

  33. mitch Says:

    http://www.nationalreview.com/corner/291696/santorum-adviser-why-mormonism-limits-katrina-trinko

Santorum’s aides believe it is unfair that reporters are asking questions about aspects of Santorum’s faith and not asking similar questions about Mitt Romney’s. Of course, Santorum has spoken more publicly about the details of his religious beliefs than Romney has, and that is why some of the questions are popping up now. …

But specifically religious questioning of Romney is as rare as specific Romney statements about Mormon beliefs. Given the current grilling of Santorum, that is a source of growing frustration to Santorum’s advisers. “Why is Mormonism off limits?” asks one. “I’m not saying it’s a seminal issue in the campaign, but we’re having to spend days answering questions about Rick’s faith, which he has been open about. Romney will turn on a dime when you talk about religion. We’re getting asked about specific tenets of Rick’s faith, and when Romney says, ‘I want to focus on the economy,’ they say, OK, we’ll focus on the economy.”

  34. Killjoy Says:

#32 nope wrong on all counts. the reason Santorum lost was because he backstabbed conservatives by supporting Spector over the conservative in the primary. And conservative deserted him when he came up for re-election

  35. JasonJack Says:

Santorum 35 Romney 27–new Gallup poll.

  36. Dave Says:

Ah, yes. I knew there was something big that I was forgetting. Everything I said in #32, plus his support of Arlen Specter over Toomey.

  37. Firecracker (Romney/ West/ Christie/ Huckabee/ Rand Paul) Says:

31 — Oklahoma is ……. country. I couldn’t care less if Santorum wins there or not. Romney is pretty much a lock to win 5 of the 10 Super Tuesday states.

  38. jerry Says:

    29.

Hahaha…Santorum will be up by 15 in two weeks. :)
