  1. James from TX Says:

I don’t believe that the Republican is this far behind, but I do believe that Michigan is in no way going to be the state that decides this election. If Romney wins MI, he will have won a bunch of other swing states that that put him over the top long before MI.

  2. Kavon W. Nikrad Says:

Obama has a 51% approval rating and nearly 60% give him the most credit for the resurgence of the auto industry.

Can we commit, right here and right now, to not wasting one second or one penny on MI in the general?

  3. Massachusetts Conservative Says:

These general election numbers are absurd. No one actually believes we’re going to lose by 20 in Michigan. 10 maybe, not 20.

  4. Massachusetts Conservative Says:

    2

I don’t believe this poll, but I’ll be honest, we are not going to win Michigan, period.

  5. brs Says:

    Wow… 23+ point behind?

    ouch

  6. Dave in AZ Says:

    NBC has the worst polling.

  7. aspire Says:

I’m confused, did NBC poll Michigan, or did Michigan poll NBC?

  8. Matthew Kilburn Says:

“Can we commit, right here and right now, to not wasting one second or one penny on MI in the general?”

How was Reagan polling against Carter in February of 1980?

  9. Massachusetts Conservative Says:

    7

    LOL

  10. Matt Y. Says:

    7 – LOL!

  11. Keith Price Says:

Hey, I haven’t heard anything from Chris Christie, Nikki Haley or other well known surrogates, lately?

Are they no longer actually stumping for Mitt?

  12. Matthew Kilburn Says:

    Christie is.

But Haley’s pull outside…even inside…of SC is limited.

  13. Dave Says:

This poll isn’t nearly as bad as it appears. Romney has him at 51% here, and the fact that it’s a Registered Voter Poll will subtract some points from the Dem.

The Republican number will be higher once the party has a nominee. When only 51% of the voters in a state are for a sitting President, he’s not in good shape.

  14. Dave Says:

    BTW,

Romney’s been campaigning with the Governor and the Attorney General of the state, while Trump has been very active. Surrogates are at work.

Did you see Christie on Piers Morgan last night?

  15. Florida Conservative Says:

New Michigan poll, Santorum ahead of Romney 37 to 34

50% of voters could change their mind, and 12% are still undecided.

Margin of error in the poll is 5% meaning its a dead heat folks.

  16. Florida Conservative Says:

Also to note in the poll, it was ran from Saturday thru Tuesday, so it does include the weekend which means the race could be even closer by now, but who knows?

  17. Guy Says:

    7. Hilarious. I did laugh out loud.

  18. My Man Mitt 4 President Says:

    11. Keith Chris Christie was on Pierce Morgan the other day and still fully behind Mitt.

  19. GNV Says:

Democrats in MI must have the ultimate Stockholm Syndrome

  20. Kavon W. Nikrad Says:

How was Reagan polling against Carter in February of 1980?

Find me a poll from Feb. 1980 where Jimmy Carter had a 51% approval rating and was given credit by a majority of Michiganders for helping the #1 industry in the state.

    Michigan likes Barack Obama…

  21. Boomer Says:

The Democratic Party in MI has endorsed an Operation Chaos attempt to swing the vote to Santorum.

    >>In this case, Democrats — while not saying it explicitly in the email — are hoping for a Rick Santorum win over Mitt Romney, which would deal the native Michigan candidate a serious blow, and keep the fight on.

    http://www.politico.com/blogs/burns-haberman/2012/02/michigan-dems-make-mischief-in-gop-primary-115235.html

That could cost a couple points.

  22. Massachusetts Conservative Says:

    19

    God way to put it.

How a state that is habitually troubled with economic malaise to keep throwing the same old dolts back into office is truly remarkable. The gov is a breath of fresh air, but Obama is getting credit for the state’s improving condition, not him, and that bothers me.

  23. Dave in AZ Says:

2 — That’s what NBC wants you to believe. Yet they don’t breakout the percentage of Democrats, Republicans, or Independents. All I was able to gather was that the total registered voters polled was 3149. Out of this number there were 715 registered voters who lean or are republicans who were included in the GOP portion of the poll. So the percentage is approximately 23% which makes no sense when you compare it to Gallop’s state of the states which shows 36% as republicans. This is push polling at its worst. I am not saying it is a swing state but I do believe it could be in play with Romney as the canidate.

  24. Massachusetts Conservative Says:

Carter had gasoline rationing, 15% interest rates, and an Iranian Hostage crisis. And he STILL got 40% of the popular vote.

It’s gonna take something like that to take Obama down in Michigan.

  25. criggs Says:

    15. Ah-hah!!!!!!!! I was right!!!!!!! See my comment 36 at http://race42012.com/2012/02/22/poll-watch-rasmussen-2012-daily-presidential-tracking-survey-27/ !! In fact, if you take a look at the final CPSR in my comment there for 2/11-20, I don’t have to change a SINGLE DIGIT. This Detroit Free Press/WXYZ survey ONE HUNDRED PERCENT CONFIRMS MY GUESS!!!

I KNEW there wasn’t any slump for Santorum, and this proves it!!

  26. Claudia Andersen Says:

Just have to blow off some steam at Fox News right now. Special Report just had an anti Romney segment about a voter who voted early for Romney in Michagan who now would have voted differently, another voter thought Romney was just like Obama (a current Santorum add), how Romney has out spent in adds, how Romney has to “re-introduce himself to his home state”. This could very well have been a Santorum comercial instead of a news worthy story. I know the rule about commenting on the current thread topic but I’m angry!

  27. Matthew Kilburn Says:

Not quite exactly the same time period, but:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Gallup_Poll-Approval_Rating-Jimmy_Carter.png

Carter clearly enjoyed an approval rating well in excess of 50% in February of 1980…and that was three months into the hostage crisis.

  28. Kavon W. Nikrad Says:

That is a national poll. There are factors in MI which are specific to Obama which render any comparison irrelevant.
