Poll Analysis: Gallup Daily Tracking Poll

Gallup has released the February 13, 2012 results of their daily tracking poll. The following graphics were obtained from their website:

After arresting his slide for a couple of days, Mitt Romney resumed it by dropping two points to 32%. He remains in the lead but just barely.

Rick Santorum jumps up another three points to 30%, just two points behind Romney. He has risen 13% since winning Minnesota, Missouri, and Colorado all on one night. He now stands poised to take the lead.

Newt Gingrich has paused in his downward slide just above 15% at 16%. He is now a full 14% behind Santorum and 16% behind Romney. (You don’t suppose he will take his own advice given to Santorum barely two weeks ago to “drop out”?)

Ron Paul has leveled off at 8%, the only candidate left in singled digits.

  1. Thunder (Romney the next presiden of the US) Says:

Time to take down the other K street Lobbyist, Santorum. Big Government Liberal Senator from Pennsylvanian (I give him Social Conservatism, but liberal everywhere else).

  2. Real (I'm talkin' SEVERELY!) Conservative Says:

    Woo hoo!!

Fasten your seat belts, baby! Rombots will blow!

  3. CF Says:

Awesome. Santorum’s bump is over after Romney’s double win this weekend. From here on out, Romney moves back up and Santorum sinks back down. So much for his “surge”.

  4. Matthew Kilburn Says:

Worth noting: This could very well be Santorum’s peak. The poll is now entirely AFTER his wins.

  5. Real (I'm talkin' SEVERELY!) Conservative Says:

    Thunder,

LOL! When you were little…do you remember sticks or stones?

According to OnTheIssues org, Willard Romney has a rating of 70 on economic issues, and 10 on social issues (they tend to overplay campaign promises when people don’t win and therefore don’t take actions).

Rick Santorum has a rating of 90 on economic issues, and 0 on social issues (0 is conservative).

So according to that group, analysing the records and statements, Santorum is more conservative than Romney on both Social and Economic issues.

So is Newt Gingrich, with a rating of 90 on economic issues.

  6. haner Says:

    2 Real Conservative

Rombots aren’t going to blow. Rombots are going to get back to our jobs, work hard and take care of our own family. Rombots know that Obama 2012 is now guaranteed and its each man to himself.

You can take heart that you “true conservatives” stuck it to “the Man” while Obama stacks the Supreme Court for the next 20 years.

  7. Matthew Kilburn Says:

“Rombots know that Obama 2012 is now guaranteed”

Speak for yourself. And if you ARE speaking for yourself, I have no idea why you’re wasting your time here.

  8. aspire Says:

Hmm, Romney took a bit of a dive there, and Gingrich may have found his floor. Looks like it’s becoming a head-to-head with Romney for the next couple of weeks. Too bad Romney can’t just run Santorum’s old ads with a, “hi I’m Mitt Romney and I approved this message” at the end.

I doubt Santorum’s going to remain the unvetted golden-boy forever. We’ll see how he stands up to the spotlight. I’m betting not very well. He always seems like he’s whining or angry, and that’s not a good temperament for defending your questionable record.

  9. Killjoy Says:

That’s un ugly graph if your a Romney supporter. It looks like Romney’s time as the flavor of the month is now over and a consensus is emerging around Santorum

  10. machtyn Says:

    2. Rombots won’t “blow”. The ones who were paying attention could see this coming since Tuesday’s “stunning” defeat of Romney and the Republican Party.

I still expect Santorum to go above Romney in this daily tracking poll. At least for a couple of days. 2 weeks to Super Tuesday is a LONG way away in politics. Just ask Romney after NH and Gingrich after SC, even 1 week makes a difference.

  11. CF Says:

    5

Too bad Romney is winning among Conservatives where it actually counts: the Primary.

    Mitt Romney: 105
    Rick Santorum: 71
    Newt Gingrich: 29
    Ron Paul: 18

Rick Santorum + Newt Gingrich COMBINED couldn’t beat Mitt Romney!

    I just can’t stop smiling! ;)

  12. aspire Says:

I think people were right about Houston’s death and the news cycle. I only watched a couple of minutes of the news but it was all about Houston, and Romney’s wins only scrolled across the bottom.

  13. Killjoy Says:

lol #12 you think anyone cares about a STRAW POLL? or that Romney barely managed to beat.. Ron Paul? in his home turf of the North East? lol

  14. haner Says:

I’m on lunch break. But you’re absolutely right. I’m going to bail.

Work hard, save money and diversify your holdings, educate your kids well so that they can prosper anywhere and in any setting. The next 50 years will be very unpredictable.

I hope Romney pulls it out, but the base is hardening its ABR resolve. Every time Romney whacks the mole, another mole appears. The base has no shame in admitting they’ve picked losers like Cain, Perry and Gingrich. There’s no self-reflection whatsoever. Why would any reasonable man associate with a base like this? How could any reasonable man not see America’s decline playing out in this primary?

  15. Doug NYC GOP Says:

Why does anyone respond to Real Conservative, Craig for Any Loser or whatever name this gutless, vomitous, effete cowards comes up with.

He’s has no moral character and only comes around when it APPEARS Romney is in trouble.

When Romney is running strong, this little pansy runs away and hides in the dark corners.

He earns no respect and is about as tolerable and acceptable as Coach Sandusky.

Wouldn’t suprise me in the least if…ah well forget it.

  16. aspire Says:

Santorum’s real claim to fame in this primary has been that he is the last guy to get vetted. He wasn’t vetted before Iowa, because he ran such a horrible campaign that he was only thrust into the spotlight after everyone else failed, then he went on to lose NH, SC, & Florida badly so he still never really got vetted. Now he’s getting a second chance, will get vetted, and will fail miserably.

  17. Ryan60657 Says:

Wow. Santy trendline is almost as vertical as you can get.

  18. Conservative Gladiator Says:

17 – It will make the decline even more impressive.

  19. aspire Says:

13 I forgot, Santorum doesn’t care about delegates, otherwise he’d be competing in all the states, fielding a full slate of delegates, and would have gotten on the ballot in Virginia.

  20. Matt "MWS" Says:

    Oh, my.

Looks like the country noticed those “little caucuses” after all.

The ones Mitt won in his losing 2008 effort.

It also looks like PPP may not have been too far off with their outlier.

  21. Killjoy Says:

Texas has more delegates than Florida and Virginia combined.

  22. asparagus Says:

What goes up must come down. Santorum will be declining in time for Arizona, Michigan primaries. Romney will not lose these. It doesn’t matter what the polls are saying right now. We’ve got over two weeks to go before any real voting takes place. Santorum will be exposed as a Bush footsolider, nothing more. The Bush people thought “deficits don’t matter”. Santorum voted with Bush 100%. He is not the conservative warrior you are looking for.

  23. aspire Says:

17 I know, it almost mirrors Gingrich’s line after he won South Carolina.

  24. aspire Says:

21 So I guess that means Santorum will skip it.

  25. Doug NYC GOP Says:

Santorum is too pompous and self-satisified to be a good nominee let alone President.

He is the inferiority complex victim’s candidate.

  26. MarqueG Says:

Looks like the baggers are joining forces with the greeters, stockers, checkout scanners, etc. behind Santo for now.

  27. Matt "MWS" Says:

For those who care, Mitt’s at 74% on Intrade. Rick’s at 17%.

That’s about where I’d put the odds. Though Rick might deserve a little higher price, say 20-25.

  28. Killjoy Says:

#22 and #25 none of that matters, all that matters is… he is not Romney, and can’t and won’t be successfully smeared by Romney.

  29. CF Says:

Looks like those triple wins for Santorum didn’t help much. If I were a an Anyone But Romney supporter right now, I’d feel pretty frustrated at this point. You win 3, THREE, Caucuses in a single day and Romney comes out and smokes you at CPAC and in Maine. And all you can muster is being stuck 2 points BEHIND Romney!? Ouch.

    I just can’t stop smiling. :)

  30. Matt "MWS" Says:

Now, Doug, let’s not get too far into the weeds with our barstool psychology…..

  31. Matt "MWS" Says:

    CF,

“Looks like those triple wins for Santorum didn’t help much.”

Have you seen this chart yet?

  32. CF Says:

    31

Gingrich led Romney by about 12 points after winning a SINGLE state (South Carolina) and you want me to be impressed by that chart after Rick wins 3 in a row? LOL.

  33. Killjoy Says:

#29 lol Denial is not just a river in Egypt.

Romney is imploding and no one gives 2 plug nickels what happened at that easily bought CPAC that hasn’t picked a winner in 12 years, and has been bought by Ron Paul and Romney multiple times in the past and apparently again the other day. And as far as Maine is concerned… if you are excited about Romney squeaking out a victory over Ron Paul on his home turf and underperforming his 2008 performance by double digits.. then, grasp those straws!

  34. Killjoy Says:

#32 you are wrong, Gingrich led Romney for one day of polling in Florida after South Carolina and he only led by 5 point in the PPP poll done then

  35. Matt "MWS" Says:

Some people might foolishly suggest that doubling his support and cutting Mitt’s lead over him by 90% would indicate that last Tuesday helped Rick. Others might point out that for the first time, Mitt is now trailing in Michigan, and this to none other than Rick. And that’s just so far, as we haven’t seen a peak form on that steep incline of Rick’s yet.

    But CF knows better…….

  36. CF Says:

    33

Romney smokes everyone over the weekend, still leads the field nationally, has the most money, the most organization, and BY FAR, the most endorsements and he’s “imploding”!?

You guys put a smile on my face!

  37. CF Says:

    35

But it just wasn’t enough for Rick to win at CPAC or Maine was it, Matt? Darn. Too bad.

  38. Matt "MWS" Says:

    CF,

    Keep whistling in the dark.

  39. CF Says:

    34

Last I checked, we were talking national polls here genius. Newt led by double digits for over a week. Derp.

  40. CF Says:

    38

Great come-back. What else you got?

    ===

    ftw. :)

  42. Matt "MWS" Says:

    CF,

No, Rick wasn’t able to pack the place like Mitt at CPAC.

But pardon me if I’m not in awe of Mitt’s 3 point backyard win over a gadfly, especially when we compare it to Mitt’s effort in 2008, which still came up short.

So you are “unimpressed” with Rick doubling support in a week, cutting Mitt’s large lead over him to essentially nothing, and taking over the lead in Mitt’s 3rd homestate, but we’re supposed to be in awe of Mitt’s 3 point win in Maine?

Do you know what Mitt got in Maine in 2008?

  43. CF Says:

Santorum’s on the decline guys. This liberal stuff is coming out of the woodwork, he’s whining and looking petty. He just came off a HORRIBLE weekend with double losses at CPAC and Maine. Here’s Rick’s peak – it’s downhill from here. Nice knowing ya Rick!

  44. Killjoy Says:

quote “still leads the field nationally” #36 … um… I guess you haven’t seen the latest national poll

    http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/pdf/2011/PPP_Release_US_0211.pdf

    Santorum 38%
    Romney 23%

sorry I have to be the bearer of bad news :P

  45. Real (I'm talkin' SEVERELY!) Conservative Says:

Santorum = The Working Man’s Catholic

    ..What could go wrng?

  46. CF Says:

    42

“No, Rick wasn’t able to pack the place like Mitt at CPAC.”

Finally you said something true. Santorum just doesn’t generate enough enthusiasm at these Conservative events I guess. Too bad.

  47. Nostradamus Says:

CF keep up your good works.

15 days until there is a comeback kid.

    Give em severe hell Mitt!

  48. Matt "MWS" Says:

    CF,

“Great come-back. What else you got?”

You’re like the cheerleader on a basketball team that was up 40 at halftime. Now they’ve given up 36 points straight, midway through the second half, but you insist on yelling “SCORE….BOARD.”

  49. CF Says:

    44

Gallup doesn’t confirm that like it did for Newt. Get back to me when you have something sustaining.

  50. Real (I'm talkin' SEVERELY!) Conservative Says:

    CF Says:

    ;)

  51. CF Says:

    48

And you’re like the little girl who is still cheering for her losing team who refuses to look at the score.

  52. Matt "MWS" Says:

    CF,

    “Finally you said something true.”

It wasn’t true that Rick’s support doubled in this poll in a week?

Or that he cut Mitt’s lead over him 90% (so far)

Or that he took the lead in Michigan?

    None of that is true?

  53. Doug NYC GOP Says:

    Matt – LOL

However i am at the height of sobriety right now and in plain English – Santorum would suck as a nominee and President.

His only claim to fame right now is because the Right Wing Media – former doper Rush and bunker dwelling Levin are gutting Romney daily.

There is an embarassingly stupid and lemming-like 20% in party which flits from candidate to candidate based upon how the media leads them by the nose.

Those are numbers that come and go for each ABR and which are swelling Ricky’s ranks right now.

They could pull this off for him, but that will be the apex of his campaign. Obama thrashes him in a GE matchup.

  54. Matt "MWS" Says:

    CF,

“And you’re like the little girl who is still cheering for her losing team who refuses to look at the score.”

Great come-back. What else you got?

  55. CF Says:

    48

And for all that momentum, what has it got Rick? He’s still 70+ points behind in delegates. He’s way behind, WAY WAY behind Romney where it actually counts. ;)

  56. Killjoy Says:

I don’t care about the GE, I care about destroying Romney

  57. CF Says:

    52

It’s true that Rick Santorum can’t pack a hall like Mitt Romney can. Try reading my post a few more times, you’ll get it eventually.

  58. Killjoy Says:

Yes, I agree Santorum doesn’t have a bunch of mormon cultists he can bus in for every event, but that doesn’t matter because he has the majority of Republicans that hate Romney

  59. Matt "MWS" Says:

    CF,

Mitt’s lead is about as secure right now as the anonymous, red shirted security guard who would beam down with Captian Kirk to the unknown planet, or the black guy in a horror film.

  60. CF Says:

    54

I’m really sorry you can’t get your way with stopping Mitt Romney, Matt, I really am. But that’s just too bad. When you’re ready for a REAL conversion to Team Romney, let us all know and we’ll be glad to have you! ;)

  61. CF Says:

    58

Last I checked Romney has the majority of Republican votes in this Primary. The sorry southern vote? Nope he won’t get that one – but he doesn’t and hasn’t needed it so far.

  62. haner Says:

    56 Killjoy:

I don’t care about the GE, I care about destroying Romney

    You and every other Democrat.

  63. Matt "MWS" Says:

    Doug,

“There is an embarassingly stupid and lemming-like 20% in party which flits from candidate to candidate based upon how the media leads them by the nose.”

Probably so, but then it most be even more sobering when you stop and consider that Mitt was the recipient of those votes in 2008, when Limbaugh et al. began their Stop McCain campaign, and started pumping Mitt.

Perhaps that 20% swinging towards Mitt last time at the behest of Talk Radio made us overestimate his strength?

When you see his dropoff in support in MO, ME, MN, CO, and now MI, it has to make you wonder.

  64. Max Twain Says:

It not the wins that matter, its the earned media. Romney got less than a day of positive coverage after Florida. The press used his out-of-context comments to derail what should have been 2 weeks of frontrunner coverage.

The press then turned around and treated 3 meaningless states (that Romney visited a total of 3 times, 22 for Santorum) and turned them into the Super Bowl.

Obama, the media, and the baggers are united in their efforts to stop Mitt, and it seems no amount of wins by him will secure him the coverage he’s earned.

  65. Max Twain Says:

    MWS

I’ve never lumped you in with the baggers like Craig, but your enthusiasm for the party-destroying nomination of Santorum is troubling.

  66. Matt "MWS" Says:

    CF,

“I’m really sorry you can’t get your way with stopping Mitt Romney”

I do appreciate your sincere empathy, but I’m not completely sold on Rick either.

What I do enjoy is punching holes in silly Rombot fantasies.

Mitt’s still the favorite, and could very well be the better nominee, but he’s hurting right now, and pretending otherwise doesn’t change that.

  67. Matt "MWS" Says:

    Max,

“…your enthusiasm for the party-destroying nomination of Santorum is troubling.”

    See #66.

I’m planning a protest vote for the Habsburgs in the Illinois primary.

I suspect you’d like them even less than Rick…

  68. CF Says:

“I do appreciate your sincere empathy, but I’m not completely sold on Rick either.”

Of course you’re not and I’m glad you’ve admitted that you are an ABR. Nobody is sold on Rick Santorum and nobody was sold on Newt, Cain, Perry or Bachmann either. You ARE sold on stopping Mitt Romney.

“Mitt’s still the favorite, and could very well be the better nominee, but he’s hurting right now, and pretending otherwise doesn’t change that.”

Rasmussen tweeting that Santorum is trending down. You’re wrong.

  69. Greg Says:

What has Rick Santorum accomplished? I mean, we already entrusted the presidency to one guy without a record of accomplishment, and look where it has gotten us. I mean, when you pick a contractor to do work on your home, do you pick the guy who has no experience? We did that 4 years ago. Let’s not do that this year.

  70. CF Says:

    69

    Santorum: inexperienced Senator
    Obama: inexperienced Senator

    You got that right.

  71. Harold Says:

The sheer, unabashed honesty of this statement is just pure gold.

Willard wouldn’t comprehend it, the soulless robot.

  72. haner Says:

    65

Maybe the party needs to be destroyed. The three wings of the party are clearly hanging together by some thin threads right now.

The Tea Party need to be exposed as the hoax they are, nothing but repackaged social conservatives trying to rid the stench of the Bush administration. The Tea Party would fully support unions if it were politically expedient of them.

  73. Reginald from texas Says:

    69. Exactly! Where does anybody get off thinking this guy is qualified to be President of the U.S.? Santorum has no record of accomplishment that makes me feel he is prepared to be president. If he wanted to be president, he should have gone and run an organization before he tries to run the most importnant organization in the world!

Just because I don’t waive pom pons for Mitt, or tattoo his name on my @ss, doesn’t mean I’m an ABR.

They may very well succeed but if they do not it will make Mitt a stronger candidate. Mitt does have a hard time with the base(?) but once he is nominated and picks a Southern Tea Party favorite (Huck, Rubio, McDonnell….etc) for VP I have no doubt the party will consolidate around him. Levin, Rush, Hannity will be all praising him once this primary season has ended. Mitt will be a very strong GE candidate as he appeals to Indies. So, yes, he struggles to get the nomination but once he does it will be all out war on Obama in the General Election with a pumped up GOP

If Mitt loses Michigan, it could lead to 4 more years of Trillion Dollar Deficits, crushed companies, emigrating jobs, higher interest rates, a collapsed dollar, a skyrocketing National Register, higher tax rates, lower Right Track numbers, a Democrat Senate, a Supreme Court packed with liberals, a weaker military, dogs and cats living together, and the worst of the Book of Revelation.

I was listening to Scarborough this morning (yeah, I know), and he said at CPAC, the conventioneers were out on the floor partying, and meanwhile, Willard was upstairs gettin’ sweated down by the party “establishment” about all his negative campaigning and blowtorch. They know it’s killing everything, evidently, and read him the riot act.

We’ll soon see if waterboarding Willard had any effect on him. I think his own blowtorch is killing him, demonstrably so, but he’s just too dumb to understand that, it seems.

  94. Matt "MWS" Says:

    Alvin,

    LOL!

  95. Alvin Says:

    91,

I believe you have rightly stated the importance of MI. Romney supporters can not fool themselves. A loss there would be devastating.

  96. Real (I'm talkin' SEVERELY!) Conservative Says:

    Now, Alvin..

You know very well that Sir Willard bought Florida.

Even still, Newt won MORE counties.

  97. Real (I'm talkin' SEVERELY!) Conservative Says:

And New Hamp & Nevada are liberal havens ideal for Willard the Massachusetts Moderate :)

  98. Eric Says:

    http://www.people-press.org/files/legacy-pdf/02-13-12%20Final%20Political%20Release.pdf

    Pew Research National GOP Poll:

    Santorum: 30%
    Romney: 28%
    Gingrich: 17%
    Paul: 12%

  99. CF Says:

    88

Rasmussen is rated a little higher than PPP when it comes to respectable polling outfits. I thought you knew that. But you can try to make that case if you want.

Let’s bet on it. If Romney is behind Santorum on Gallup daily tracking by next Monday, I’ll change my name to CF – MWS was right. If not, you change your name to Matt “MWS” – CF was right. Deal?

  100. NoMoreModerates Says:

#82 – Wow. And the 2008 votes were in a losing effort.

Voters are always a step ahead of the pundits and politicians. They said it before the voting began and keep saying it – Romney is weak and they want something else. No matter how much the establishment pushes him and endorses him the voters are simply not buying.

The establishment must make a decision: Either continue to push this inept pony into the convention only to get rejected or admit defeat, dump Romney and rally around Santorum.

  101. Huckarubio....returns Says:

    15. Doug, craig has been on this site a hell of alot longer than you. He certainly knows how to pick em, but he isnt only around when Romney is sucking balls.

  102. Conservative Gladiator Says:

Let the career DC politician vetting begin. Santorum is fair game now. From the ever wise Sara Palin, we need to vett these candidates for the coming General. Taxes, past statements, and DC records should all be on display and scrutinized. Remember ABR’s you can’t change the rules or go back on your hypocrisies. Play fair, tell the truth and we’ll all be fine.

  103. Conservative Gladiator Says:

Rick Santorum – the latest DC politician to finally get an enema.

  104. Harold Says:

That Pew poll is deadly for Willard. Looks like HE’S the one that’s being vetted:

    (Willard) Takes consistent
    positions on issues?

    November 2011 – 47yes 33no

    February 2012 – 39yes 48no

Gingrich and Willard have pretty much destroyed each other, I suspect. Willard fired the first shot in blowtorching Iowa, Gingrich fired back in SC, and Willard finished him (and himself) off by blowtorching Florida.

Santorum now picking up the pieces, and grabbing the nom.

  105. Matthew Kilburn Says:

    98

Newtorum 47, Willard 28 ……they beat him easily

OH WAIT!! Rick wins without any Newt supporters!

    I just can’t stop smiling :D

  106. Matt "MWS" Says:

    CF,

“Let’s bet on it. If Romney is behind Santorum on Gallup daily tracking by next Monday, I’ll change my name to CF – MWS was right. If not, you change your name to Matt “MWS” – CF was right. Deal?”

I’m not going to pretend to know that.

Mainly, I was disputing your absurd claim that last Tuesday didn’t help Rick much, and your double standard regarding confirmation from Gallup.

Neither point is worth bickering over, really.

Mitt could well be in the lead next Monday. I don’t know. Like I said, I’m not one for pom pons.

  107. Dave Says:

Rasmussen’s new poll shows Romney doing better against Obama than Santorum…and that’s at THIS point. The trend is reversing. Give Mitt the nomination and he will take it to Obama.

  108. Conservative Gladiator Says:

I think today has been played to a hilt. Time for new stuff to emerge. Oh wait, it’s going to be all he vetting of Santorum. I can’t wait. I love watching DC politicians squirm at the sight of their past misdeeds with conservatism.

  109. Alvin Says:

    105,

    “I just can’t stop smiling”

Well, if you are a Romney supporter, just stare at the most recent polls for a few minutes. It works wonders for me when I get the urge to crack a smile

  110. MPC Says:

In light of how complicit Santorum was in the various public policy idiocies of the Bush years that contributed to the present deep indebtedness of the nation, Gingrich having prostituted himself for so many others (and today, for bankrupt neoconservatism), and Romney despite being a good guy and manager having the spine of a wet washcloth to anyone not in total awe of those attributes, Ron Paul deserves special attention.

He was pretty alone in warning us of the consequences of our various free lunches we thought we could have, like a war that would be easy, entitlements that would be cost free, home values that would rise to infinity, and an economy fed by debt that would perpetually expand.

He was right the whole time. So why aren’t we listening?

  111. CF Says:

    106

That says all you need to know about someone claiming crap about polling when they aren’t willing to put their money where their mouth is.

  112. Dave Says:

    BTW,

Regardless of how it came about, I’m glad to see Dean Heller in the Senate.

  113. Real (I'm talkin' SEVERELY!) Conservative Says:

My gift to you all you Willard the Massachusett Liberal’s fanboys.

It would make a nice Rombot Front Page Post, too..

And surely make you all Einsteins feel better :)

    Here:

Right-wingers [like Santorum] are less intelligent than left wingers [like Romney], says study

    Monday, February 13, 2012

Right-wingers tend to be less intelligent than left-wingers…Study involved 3,412 men and 3,658 women born in 1970.

  114. Liz Says:

WoHOAH Rick, hold on, and ask Gingrich what the steep ride down is like.

  115. Dave Says:

    MPC,

Were Mitt not to get the nomination, Ron would run 3rd Party, as would Trump. I would vote for Ron, but the election would be lost.

    See #91.

  116. Conservative Gladiator Says:

Conservatism and career DC politicians don’t mix. That will be brightly on display for years to come thanks to Romney. It’s not enough to say good things, you actually have to be a doer and have lived it outside of DC to appreciate it. One thing to remember, Romney never attacked Gingrich personally. He attacked Gingrich on his actions which were never refuted by Gingrich. Those actions are the true character of Gingrich’ politics – DC politics. Romney will do the same highlighting Santorum’s follies as a conservative and the truth will be enough. The veneer of DC politicians as true stalwart conservatives is coming to an end. That is a great thing for conservatism. You ABR’s owe Romney a lot for that.

  117. Liz Says:

Right wingers like Santorum get more pork and spend more than tightwads like Romney. That’s fer sure.

  118. Killjoy Says:

Santorum just took the lead nationally on RCP

  119. Matt "MWS" Says:

    CF,

    1. Changing your screen name is hardly “money.”

    2. I don’t believe you’re actually allowed to bet money.

    3. What crap about polling was I claiming?

  120. opey Says:

    Harold & Real,

Unless you are for someone, your constant critique of romney falls on deaf ears.

  121. Real (I'm talkin' SEVERELY!) Conservative Says:

    105.

Welcome back aboard the So-Con train, my prodigal son :)

  122. Conservative Gladiator Says:

121 – The socon Santorum train will lead conservatives in this country to the bridge to nowhere.

  123. Alvin Says:

    120,

To be fair, Craig is for Gingrich, and for good reason. He is probably scared to publicly support Santorum and considering his history, it’s hard to blame him.

  124. Keith Price Says:

Not liking the trend, but I’m hopeful it will turn around for both Mitt (up) and Rick (down) soon.

It really IS frustrating at how the media is downplaying Mitt’s wins this weekend.

And, I’m starting to wonder if the press will do ANY vetting of Rick. It might be all on Mitt’s and Paul’s shoulders to waste ad dollars to do the media’s job.

I really, really do hope Mitt fights for and wins MI. The press will spin that loss horribly.

  125. the truth Says:

    13 killjoy
Says – “or that Romney barely managed to beat.. Ron Paul? in his home turf of the North East?”

What an idiot, Gingrich couldn’t win his neighboring state of Florida and Santorum lost his own re-election in his home state. What a stupid comment!!!!!

Using your logic Newt needs to win his current home state of VA or get out, oh ya he wasn’t smart enought to get on the ballot. And Santorum should win his neighbor VA also, oh….sorry he was also inept and didn’t make the ballot.

    You really are a killjoy.

  126. CF Says:

    119

So you’d be willing to bet real money, but not change your screen name?

  127. Real (I'm talkin' SEVERELY!) Conservative Says:

    118.

    Woo hoo!

    Go So-Cons!

Bury that severe Massachusettes Liberal who PROUDLY ran to the left of the late Ted Kennedy.

And then it’s Obama’s turn to be buried when we all unite in Tampa.

Be there or be square. Paulbots, too.

  128. Harold Says:

Hey, I’ll take your bet, dude.

Santo tied or up on Willard in the 2/20/12 Gallup?

    You’re on.

Here’s the moniker you’ll be wearing that day:

“Conductor Willard Is Driving The Severely Conservative Express As Skillfully As The High Speed Rail Loving Progressive Crapweasel He Is” ;-)

  129. MPC Says:

    Craig,

Socons believe in deep indebtedness to fund useless meddling in other countries and doom future families such as my own to a country mired in stagnation and turmoil?

As I said on the other page there is no fiscal and social conservatism, only conservatism. And your agenda doesn’t really sound like it. It sounds like the faux conservatism Santorum, Gingrich, and others preached but did not live.

  130. haner Says:

    115

    Ditto.

  131. Real (I'm talkin' SEVERELY!) Conservative Says:

    CF,

    I’ll bet you $10K, for Pete’s sake…………..

What are we betting on, Rombot?

  132. MPC Says:

If a faux conservative hypocrite gets the nomination I’m writing in Ron Paul with a clean conscience.

If Romney gets it I may be appeased to vote for him under certain conditions, but he has to convince me he’d be better than them.

  133. Harold Says:

Wait, foresooth, you say weuns have a prodigal son returneth here?

Don’t we have to kill the fatted calf and feast or something?

Maybe we can kill Willard’s 2004 Taxachusetts budget. There was plenty of fat in that, lemme tell ya’. ;-)

  134. Massachusetts Conservative Says:

Bob McDonnell trial-balloon tests a line of attack to damage Santorum among women voters

    http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0212/72799.html

  135. Matt "MWS" Says:

    CF,

“So you’d be willing to bet real money, but not change your screen name?”

No, I was merely pointing out that changing a screen name isn’t money, and you aren’t allowed to bet money, so I’m a bit bemused by your style of bravado.

  136. Conservative Gladiator Says:

124 – It’s Romney’s job to do the work that conservatives in the press don’t want to do. Damn the favorables. There are no favorables for the press on both sides and the ABR’s where Romney’s concerned. The one redeeming thing for Paul is he’s doing his best not to be lumped in with Santorum or Gingrich as DC insiders.

All Romney needs to do is put out the contrast ads while staying positive himself. It’s worked in the past and it will work again against Santorum. F’ing DC politicians and the conservative base who feel they owe these guys anything or who feel that they’re better than Romney. Romney will win the nomination. If the media on both sides and the ABR’s do cheat their way through this thing, at least Romney could go home in peace knowing he did his best and at least the DC career politicians finally are getting the enema they so rightly needed.

  137. Real (I'm talkin' SEVERELY!) Conservative Says:

Huck: “All So-Cons are fiscally conservative family oriented folks. Sadly, all Fi-Cons are not So-Cons.”

MPC, but we’re not giving up on you libertarian types. That’s why you’re invited to Tampa. (See #127)

Alvin, I’m not big on supporting Pittsburgh lawyers who are overly concerned for the working Catholic man. ;)

    BUT MICHIGANDERS ARE!!!!!!

  138. CF Says:

    135

It’s called an expression, “put your money where your mouth is”, Einstein. The bet was to change your screen name.

You’re a coward Matt. You and the rest of the ABR pieces of crap will spew BS all day long about this poll or that poll, but when push comes to shove you won’t commit to anything. Instead of admitting your’re a coward, you deflect by saying it’s not real money. You’re dirt under my feet, Matt, I have you for breakfast every morning without batting an eye. Don’t know why I waste my time with people like that.

That’s how you smell a troll.

  139. Sojourner Truth agrees with Chuck Norris Says:

    Bob McDonnell now too?

Hahaha. Boy that establishment really is pulling out all the stops.

It’s ok though. After Michigan, if Romney loses – they’re going to dump him.

  140. NoMoreModerates Says:

McDonnell has his own problem with women – he wrote that women are basically bedwarmers for men.

  141. Sojourner Truth agrees with Chuck Norris Says:

140 – That’s true. But he wants to move up in the ranks of the GOP. The establishment has handpicked Romney, so McDonnell thinks he has to kiss Romney’s ass to get noticed by the power brokers, just like Nikki Haley.

It is what it is. But it’s pretty transparent.

  142. Harold Says:

Yeah, you won’t believe how quick the RINO rats and Goldman Sachs vermin are gonna dump Willard, when he crashes.

POOF. All those rats and that Goldman money will be over with Obama so quick it’ll make your head swim.

  143. Conservative Gladiator Says:

140 – Moving the boundaries again. That’s all these ABR’s do is change the rules to their own detriment – it’s sad. You’re doing your own selves a disservice by not making a stand. Either you’re for adultery as long as you repent? Or you’re for what Rick says about women. This is sad and pathetic watching these ABR’s for career DC politicians.

  144. MPC Says:

    Craig,

Your definition of fiscal conservatism looks a lot like liberalism. And as I said there’s no fiscal or social conservatism, just conservatism. Either you are, or you aren’t. Santorum talks a nice game but his choices have very real consequences, all of which have left America worse off.

    CF,

You are being dumb, and your fanatical idiocy gives your supporters a bad name. Matt’s an honest critic and you can’t tell the difference between that and trolling, which you do quite a bit.

  145. Harold Says:

    Let’s take a poll.

Who do you trust as a surrogate?

    McDonnell or Inhofe?

Which do you think will play out better in the heartland, in the Midwest and on Super Tuesday?

I like McDonnell, or what I know of him, but he better stick to Beltway Central and Politico, and wait see if Willard thinks he’s pretty for VP.

  146. CF Says:

    144

Ron Paul who? Oh yeah, the loser from Maine.

  147. Massachusetts Conservative Says:

    139 Sojourner

Can you explain how Bob McDonnell, who is the most Conservative governor on the eastern seaboard, and who won as a tea partier, is part of the Establishment, and Santorum, who worked in Washington in leadership for 12 years and on K Street later, isn’t?

Go to hell, straight there. Don’t pass “GO” and do not collect two-hundred dollars.

  148. CF Says:

    147

Sojo has been to hell often. He’s Satan’s campaign chairman afterall.

    ———
    Sojourner Truth – October 5th, 2011
I’d vote for Satan himself over Romney.
He’s a liar and a panderer and the Republicans deserve to lose if he gets the nomination.

  149. ccr Says:

Santorum: whine and blame everyone else

Obama: whine and blame everyone else

  150. Sojourner Truth agrees with Chuck Norris Says:

147 – Sure. McDonnell wants to move up in the party. Sununu and the Bushies and Rove and the money players have settled on their candidate and he is too cowardly to piss them off.

And you got to stop with this “worked in Washington” rap against Santorum. No one buys it. It’s clear that Romney is a Bushie butt boy. And the Bushies have been in control of the GOP in Washington for the past quarter century. It’s just idiocy for Romney to try this “Everyone else is a Washington insider” when he knows where his bread is buttered.

  151. Bill Says:

    150

McDonnell is too cowardly to piss off Rove and the Bushes?

When did Santorum EVER stand up to Bush? He was so in the tank for Bush he even claimed we found the WMD in Iraq. He rubber stamped everything Bush sent him and then got a nice lobbying job as a reward.

  152. Tim Says:

If the Tea Party was running Rubio or Jindal against Romney, then this I could understand. But the fact that they are turning to Gingrich and Santorum, two big government establishment republicans, proves that they are motivated by something else. Probably the Mormon card.

I get going to war for Rubio. I don’t get going to war for Mr. Endorsed Specter for PRESIDENT.

  153. Tim Says:

    150

So Romney works almost entirely in the private sector, builds a donor base almost entirely of business allies, spends exactly 0 days in Washington in Congress or K Street, and he’s the establishment?

Santorum, on the other hand, sabotages Toomey’s senate campaign, works on K Street, votes for every Bush spending bill and every earmark, and he’s the Tea Party hero?

I could respect the Tea Party if it just admitted they hate Mormons, because trying to turn Bush apologist Santorum into Ron Johnson or Marco Rubio is just a joke.

  154. Matt "MWS" Says:

    CF,

“You’re a coward Matt.
That’s how you smell a troll.”

    I still you you, CF.

…Even if I think you have an adolescent understanding of “courage.”

  155. Matt "MWS" Says:

#154 should have said I still *love* CF.

  156. Matthew Kilburn Says:

    CF,

You really need to shut your mouth sometimes. I know fighting with ABR’s is like arguing with children, but try to be the adult in the room. You don’t make the rest of us (or Romney) look any better.

On another note, the trend does not favour Mitt. However, like we’ve seen before so many times, it’s best to see how this plays out. If Rum is still in the driver’s seat in two weeks, we’ll be in real trouble. For now, let’s just take a breather.

  157. Tracy...aRombotbytheway Says:

Do any ABR supporters really think that someone other than Romney can take on Obama? This is a serious question. Romney is not perfect and has his flaws but I can’t picture a scenario where it happens.

Pres. Obama took on the Clinton machine and out-charmed, out-witted, out-lied, out-politicked and beat her handily. It is going to take some serious cash and and incredible organization and the full support of all republicans (including establishment) and many independants to beat Obama.

Nothing that Santorum or Gingrich has said or done during this primary process has stood out as outstanding. They can debate and point out differences but where is the organization, where is the steady stream of cash, where are the loyal supporters? Their supporters are tossed to and fro every other week. Romney has had all three from the start. This is because he is in fact a good leader and executive. He could improve on his speeches and he is not a natural politician (unlike Gingrich) but I believe he would make an accomplished, disciplined, and effective President.

Anyone who thinks he would under-perform has not looked at his record carefully. His feet would be held close to fire. Skeptics and supporters alike would expect a lot from Romney and I don’t think he would disappoint.

This would be a different conversation if other more accomplished Republicans were running or had made it through the process. With the people we are left with, many a rombot are banging our heads against the wall thinking, “Seriously people, wake up!”

  158. asparagus Says:

The good news is that Romney’s floor (the bottom of each of his surges) appears to be getting higher over time. The bad news is that Santorum’s floor is also getting higher. The good news is that nobody has laid a glove on Santorum. So the drops in his polling are purely due to another candidate looking better (Gingrich, Romney, etc.), whereas with Romney, his polling has dropped as he has endured negative attacks from Obama/Gingrich/Santorum. I will be interested to see what Santorum’s bottom looks like (figuratively) once his record starts facing negative exposure.

BTW, Romney camp, the key to beat Santorum in Michigan is to tie him to Bush. He is a Bush clone. Bush is not popular in Michigan. The only time he didn’t support Bush was on comprehensive immigration reform, and talk radio was screaming at people to kill that bill.

So the Bushies are going to be upset. What have they done for you lately?

  159. asparagus Says:

Santorum is an establishment footsoldier. That is why he supported Romney in ’08. Santorum is like the establishment’s version of Tide and Whisk. Both owned by the same company, almost the exact same formula, different logo. Santorum! A Blue Collar Establishment Alternative. Now that’s a product you can get behind.

Romney is owned by noone. He may courted the establishment, but they work for him, not the other way around. With Santorum, you can be sure who he is working for. His record shows slavish devotion to Bush & co.

  160. Matt "MWS" Says:

    asparagus,

    “Romney is owned by noone.”

Which leaves him free to pander where ever he wills.

    ;-)

  161. Doug NYC GOP Says:

    Huckarubio…

I could care less how long Craig Sandusky has been lurking on this site.

A cheeseball is a cheeseball and he’s Numero Uno.

  162. Franklin Says:

Bob McDonnell is a establishment politician. He will never back cutting government because Northern Virginia is absolutely dependent on a big federal government.

  163. Harold Says:

BTW, Romney camp, the key to beat Santorum in Michigan is to tie him to Bush.

    .

Can’t work. Not a bad word will be said about Bush here. But if it were, Willard has already been semi endorsed by Poppy Bush, and it’ll cut all ways.

Now, in the general election, you’d be right. But again, the Left will tie any R candidate to Bush here… especially Willard.

  164. Real (I'm talkin' SEVERELY!) Conservative Says:

    161.

    Doug the NY Liberal Troll,
