I could have been a good ad (if you don’t know certain things about the race), but then it ends begging for donations.
On a side note, showing them doing their book tour during a presidential campaign is embarrassing. Maybe that’s the point of Gingrich’s campaign though – selling books. Maybe that’s why he doesn’t bother going after Santorum, and why he’s not really competitive. Maybe he just expects Romney to win and wants to position himself as the “true conservative” that lost to Romney so he can sell books.
I love how he establishes his historian cred by adding “……since 1860.”
Of course, 1864 was pretty damn important, because McClellan (Lincoln’s opponent) was looking to find a settlement with the Confederacy.
And 1916 was pretty important, because reelecting Wilson brought us into WWI and a total cluster of a peace settlement, which lead to the Third Reich, Holocaust, etc….
1960 was pretty important, because it gave the Democrats the myth of Camelot to exploit for decades, and ultimately lead to the Great Society.
Most conservatives see 1980 as a pretty pivotal election too.
We could also wonder if Bryan had beat McKinley, or Tilden beat Hayes, or the Republcans found a way to win any Great Depression election…..
Santorum is a really weak candidate, and his shooting star will burn out quickly. If Romney loses his “inevitability” meme, we could see yet another resurgence of Newt.
Why?
Because he is still the best at articulating the message that Americans are hungry to hear, despite his “baggage.”
It may not happen, and he is out of cash… but it took massive amounts of spending on negative ads in Iowa to bring him down, and he popped right back up in SC.
Florida cost Romney what? $15 million? $20 million? Is he going to be able to do that in every state from here on out? Because without that blowtorch, Newt can make his case pretty effectively.
Newt’s been dead in the water twice before. He may be done, but then again, I never thought we would be honestly appraising a potential Rick Santorum nomination either.
6 Santorum is weak, but I don’t think Gingrich really has a chance to win this thing. Gingrich and Santorum have been leapfrogging states in order to try and deny Romney the delegates he needs to end this thing, but Romney still wins half the states, and comes in second in the other half (with the exception of Minnesota). Neither Santorum or Gingrich has shown any ability to compete in all 50 states, and only Gingrich has won a primary.
Santorum’s never come in second, and Gingrich has 5 states he didn’t come in the top two.
Newt’s a dead man floating… has been since he took that cruise. Still, he keeps coming back up for air. I suspect that will continue to happen in the South… to the annoyance of Santorum fans.
I’ve never been worried about Rick Santorum, but the voters are starting to scare me. I’m glad to see that Rick is tanking Newt, but I sure hope the voters come to their senses.
Romney will focus his sites on Rick going forward which will result in the rush limbaugh followers finding a new flavor of the month which could mean a gingrich resurgence.
in the end romney is going to get the delegates he needs. Santorum still hasn’t been vetted. That is going to end with him surging the way he is.
romney needs to step it up though and i hope he is smart enough to know that to take santorum down he must be much more smooth about it. beating gingrich down with a blunt instrument was fine but rick is very likeable and people will not respond as well to straight forward attacks. they need to be well crafted and indirect.
i think his attacks should focus on the economy and electability as well. not on big government stuff. santorum is a ‘compassionate conservative’ in the exact mold of gw bush.
i also worry about how quickly he would be willing to go to war. i know romney would be much more cautious than santorum.
17. I think he needs to focus on executive experience and results, as well as experience outside of Washington. He also needs to emphasize his commitment to shrink the size and influence of the federal government–to be serious about addressing our debt/deficit issues. This is the positive side. On the negative side, Romney’s team (campaign or Super PAC) need to highlight Santorum’s time in Washington–and expose him primarily in his own words (video clips of Santorum) that betray the image he is now trying to project. He needs to take Santorum down in Michigan, devoting whatever resources are necessary.
Newt Gingrich:he is a man of great intellect, wisdom and courage to lead this nation. Because of his experience he deeply understand the goverment and our constitution, therefore, he can return this country to the constitutional principles. because of his knowledge and experience, he is the only candidate that can defeat Presidente Obama in November. He balanced de budget, tax relief, he is the only one who will birng America back to the good days because his domestic, international and political experience.

Is this guy still running?
I thought he was calling for Rick and him to consolidate their support?

Newt talking about class warfare, that’s precious. That is how he won South Carolina.

Newt carried the torch of class warfare against Mitt and helped preside over the 80 year liberal decline. OK

You guys really believe he can’t rise again?
Foolhardy!

Telly,
I don’t think there is any need to put Newt’s baggage in quotes.
February 13th, 2012 at 12:29 pm
Newt will be fine with his Walker Texas Ranger strategerie.
February 13th, 2012 at 12:31 pm
Well, all the candidates have flaws.
It’s a weak field.
Newt’s been dead in the water twice before. He may be done, but then again, I never thought we would be honestly appraising a potential Rick Santorum nomination either.
Literally anything can happen in this race.
I’m keeping an open mind.

The reason Gingrich can’t “rise again” is because his credibility has been irretrievably damaged.
Rick isn’t to that point yet. yet.

He didn’t mention sex on the moon. Hmm, that’s his best stuff. He does forget stuff, like how to get on a ballot and that he is married sometimes.

There are a ton of reasons why any true conservative cringes at the very thought of Newt.
