GOP presidential candidate Newt Gingrich says rival Rick Santorum should take a look at the poll numbers, which show Gingrich beating him, and drop out.
“The longer conservatives stay split, the harder it’s going to be for us to [beat Romney],” Gingrich said on FOX and Friends on Tuesday. “And I think that we risk not being able to beat Obama unless we get a conservative. I have to win the nomination.”
Santorum is sapping conservative votes from Gingrich, the former House speaker said.
Santorum is having none of it:
…
“My message is everybody should run, whoever wants to run and be in this race. I don’t think people should be telling other folks to ‘get out of the race and get out of my way,’” Santorum said.
Once again we see where Gingrich is full of excuses for his failings.
This problem is seriously limiting Newt’s ability to compete. If you cannot honestly look at yourself with the idea that maybe you are the source of your problems, then you are severely limiting your ability to accurately identify problems and their solutions.
Look at how Mitt Romney dealt to his South Carolina defeat. He led in the state following Iowa and New Hampshire, but he ended up losing by double digits. How did he respond?
Did he blame the state’s evangelicals? No. Did he blame his opponents’ unfair advertising? No. Did he blame the media? No. Did he blame his opponents’ for stacking the debate audiences against him? No.
Mitt and his team refused to take the easy route of blaming others for their problems. Instead they determined that they had made mistakes in the state, and they set about correcting them. They applied what they had learned in Florida. The result is this stunning turnaround in Florida. Mitt trailed coming into the state by double digits. Now, less than two weeks later, most polls have him leading by double digits. That would never had been possible if he and his team hadn’t been completely honest with themselves following South Carolina.
That seems to be Newt’s biggest failing — his difficulty with self-honesty. And therein lies the root of most of his troubles. It’s almost impossible to correct problems when you don’t recognize the fact that you might be the one causing them.
My mother used to have a little clipping taped to our kitchen refrigerator. It read, “Kick the person responsible for each of your problems, and you won’t be able to sit down for a week!”
Shakespeare had much the same idea in mind when he penned, “The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars, But in ourselves.”
January 31st, 2012 at 10:00 am
newt should blame his own campaign management!
January 31st, 2012 at 10:04 am
Newt is the definition of a loser.
January 31st, 2012 at 10:04 am
“The fault dear Brutus, lies not in our stars, but in ourselves, that we are underlings.” Mitt says that if the people don’t respond positively to you, look in the mirror. He changed his debate coach and re-evaluated his strategy. Different things were done, and a different outcome looms.
This is a mentally healthy approach. Contrast it with Gingrich’s.
January 31st, 2012 at 10:06 am
Newt really is nuts. What is wrong with his supporters who are encouraging this behavior.
January 31st, 2012 at 10:06 am
Newt not only his a blame problem, he has a serious math problem as well. First, it was, “Oh, if only the conservative vote wasn’t split five different ways…” Then, one by one the “conservatives” dropped out of the race. Now there’s only two “conservatives” in the race and Newt is still complaining about it. But the math says otherwise, according to all the Florida polls:
Suffolk: Romney 47 – “Conservatives” 39
Quinnipiac: Romney 43 – “Conservatives” 40
We Ask America: Romney 50 – “Conservatives” 40
SUSA: Romney 41 – “Conservatives” 38
NBC/Marist: Romney 42 – “Conservatives” 43
Rasmussen: Romney 44 – “Conservatives” 40
The only polls where Newt’s idea gains any support are the outlier InsiderAdvantage and PPP polls.
January 31st, 2012 at 10:10 am
I am in a super Tuesday state so I have to decide soon but I do know this I Don’t think how the rest of you feel but i do not want this to Drag on till Tampa convention cause that gives obama ALOT OF FREE TIME!?
January 31st, 2012 at 10:12 am
#6 No the sooner this stops the better. Newt is trying to destroy the GOP if he can’t win.
January 31st, 2012 at 10:13 am
I have to win the nomination? This seems to be the precurser to a tantrum. I get the feeling a lot of china will get broken in the next few weeks. I also predict that after FL, Mitt will turn the focus to Obama and away from cry baby and let Newt do himself in (and possibly doo in his diaper).
January 31st, 2012 at 10:14 am
The polls that show second choice voters show that if santorum drops out it actually helps mitt or is at the very least a draw. newt’s argument is simply not true and he knows it. maybe romney should cry and call him a liar like little newton does.
it has been awesome to watch newt play right into romney’s hands. what a tool.
i like him as our ideas guy but president, please.
January 31st, 2012 at 10:17 am
let me ask this DO YOU All think The main GOP office in DC really wants this thing to go to fight on the Tampa convention stage?
January 31st, 2012 at 10:17 am
7 is right. If Newt isn’t the nominee he wants us to lose so he can say “I told you so”.
January 31st, 2012 at 10:19 am
Greg, not if the mud keeps flying.
January 31st, 2012 at 10:20 am
I’m pretty sure Rick is more concerned with defeating Newt than defeating Romney.
January 31st, 2012 at 10:20 am
I don’t know where I read it, it may have been here. If so, sorry, but I read that Romney’s strategy in turning negative wasn’t to destroy Newt, but to make him mad so he would destroy himself.
January 31st, 2012 at 10:21 am
Boo, you wouldn’t know it by watching the debates.
January 31st, 2012 at 10:22 am
15, he goes after both equally, but has been repeatedly insulted by Newt, and formerly endorsed Romney.
He has also indicated in the debates that Newt’s character is a problem.
I’m pretty sure about this one.
January 31st, 2012 at 10:23 am
#14.. People underestimate exactly how intelligent Romney is. I can see him using that strategy and it’s working.
January 31st, 2012 at 10:26 am
Look at how Mitt Romney dealt to his South Carolina defeat.
.
Ok, let’s look at it. Willard went down to Florida and blowtorched the state, returning to his previous strategy, the one with which he blowtorched Iowa, which is what ignited the South Carolina demographic wipeout.
And fyi, kids, I haven’t seen such a comprehensive demographic wipeout in some time, and neither have you. Check those internals, baby. And that didn’t come about because anybody likes the Newtster, I assure you. It was an Anybody But Willard vote.
That SC wipout spooked Willard, he panicked, and went after more of the hair of the Iowa dog. Bad move. It was dumb in Iowa, and it’s no less dumb now.
Santorum’s voters include tons of pro-lifers. Those people are serious and principled, unlike Willard, and I suspect even you fever swampers understand how they’re gonna break, if Santorum drops out and it gets to nut cuttin’ time. And both Gingrich and Willard and all their campaign shysters know it, too.
There’s only one way out of this self destructive cycle for Willard, and that is that he’s gotta extinguish the blowtorch, and go out and win this on his own merits. That’s what he’s most afraid of, I suspect, and with good reason.
January 31st, 2012 at 10:26 am
I personally think this need to be wrapped up by either super Tuesday march 6th or AT VERY LEAST 31 March?
January 31st, 2012 at 10:28 am
Posit Mitt as President and Newt powerless and just out there somewhere. If he actually generated an idea that was really insightful, the fact is that Mitt would put it into practice. He would attribute it, and be gracious enough to mention all the idiotic ideas Newt had come up with.
That’s the kind of guy Mitt is.
January 31st, 2012 at 10:32 am
19
Greg, the sooner, the better. This campaign is NOT helping Romney. It’s making him roll in the mud with Noot, and Noot is destroying the party by using heated class warfare rhetoric and conspiracy theories. He needs to be stopped immediately. Don’t listen to the anti-Romney media establishment. There is no benefit for this NASTY contest lasting any longer.
January 31st, 2012 at 10:33 am
greg,
Mitt has been the inevitable nominee for a few months. All the dominoes are in place. It takes money, organization, endorsements, and the right temperament and image. Newt pulled a coup in SC, but there’s no evidence he will do it again, and February is aligned for an early Mitt victory.
If Newt or Santorum were able to win a state here or there, the inevitable would be unnecessarily forestalled….not derailed. Let’s wrap it up early.
January 31st, 2012 at 10:37 am
Soon to be held conversation:
“Hi, Rick. It’s me, undoubtedly the most incredible and uncanny candidate of all time who will…”
“Hi, Newt. I know it’s you. *yawn* Man, I’m tired after all this craziness at the hospital and the campaign.”
“I can understand those hospital establisment types are the most dishonest in the history of health care. Why, in 1974 as Reagan, my protege, and I were grandiosely planning to take down the USSR…”
“Got it, Newt. Thsnks for not calling about Bella. So, why the call?”
“You are impeding my insurgent campaign, Rick. Truthfully, if you were to cease and desist all your campaign and become one of my minions…I mean, “consultants,” *heh heh* we could take out that liberal rich maniacal liar…”
“Whoah, Newt. I want to beat Mitt but that’s a little bit much, don’t you think it’d be better to…”
“That is a NONSENSE statement. That is the most DESPICABLE thing I’ve ever heard, you defending Mitt. YOU shouldn’t have…Callista, not now! I’m scolding a moderator! If you keep this up, I’ll send you where the other two…”
“Newt, calm down. I also saw you said he was anti-religion? Really? Look, I don’t think our party should…”
“You, sir, are the Mitt-stamp candidate! …Where’s the stupid applause? Awwww, man…”
“Newt, man! Calm down! I’m not a spineless reporter you can beat up! I’m not a fan of Mitt, but I don’t want to lie about his record, either. ALSO, CUT OUT THE DROP OUT OF THE RACE DRIVEL! Look, in all the polls, if I drop out, you lose by MORE to MITT anyway! I also think you’re imploding now and that conservatives will support me more than you once you’re done blowing yourself up.”
“WRah! Grrr! Agghhh! *tazmanian devil spinning sound* sbbblah! sbbblah!”
“Newt? Are you still there?”
“Grrr! Agggh! I can’t take it anymore! My hyperbole and hypocrisy are elevating my own intracranial pressures around my gigantic, Galileo-like brain! Help me, Sarah Palin! My own cerebrum is raging against the machine! Somebody….”
***high-pitched whistling sound then loud but controlled explosion audible***
“Newt? Newt?!”
“Rick? Is that you?”
“Newt! I thought you…”
“No, it’s Callista. Newt’s grandiosity just blew himself up. He was too great even for himself.”
“Callista, I’m so sorry. I…”
“Hey, Rick, what are you wearing?”
“Uh, a sweater vest, Callista, but…”
“Ummm….I like sweater vests.”

Maybe the party needs to be destroyed. Democrats take us off the cliff at 100 mph and Romney will takes us off the cliff at 60mph. All Romney is is the third term of George Bush.
January 31st, 2012 at 10:41 am
this has been a slow process so far….but do you all think it will speed up after tonight?
January 31st, 2012 at 10:46 am
Mitt is better off running against Santorum right up through Super Tuesday. Mitt will be coasting through states until then, but the truth here is that the South is getting left behind, and Mitt needs to run that gauntlet to win over the Party, which I believe he is perfectly capable of doing.
Are his positions bold enough? We’ve got a month in front of us to watch him sell it in Missouri, in Oklahoma, sell it in Georgia. What will he do about entitlements? Cutting the budget?
The best case scenario for the Party, in my opinion, would be for Gingrich to fold and let Santorum make a conservative case for the policies he supports, and let Mitt make his conservative case, and do it in Socon territory.
The problem with Newt now is that it’s all about bombastic self-validation, and not at all about policies, ideas, or principles. As long as he’s in the race it’s all about him. Santorum would shift the campaign narrative to policy differences. Newt can’t do that. And Romney needs the shake-out cruise for the good of his campaign and the Party.
January 31st, 2012 at 10:50 am
Franklin NOT so Romney didn’t take the Olympics off the cliff, he turned it around and actually made money. Canada on the other hand took 10 years to pay off the debt of their winter Olympics. You may not like that he isn’t specific about where the cuts will be but the will not be moderate or at 60 miles per hour. Take that to the bank.
January 31st, 2012 at 10:54 am
Polls show if Santorum drops out, his votes are evenly split or favor Romney. But no matter, if SIR NEWT says Santorum needs to drop out, than so be it. After all, Newt is a King (of sorts).
January 31st, 2012 at 10:59 am
When Romney took over the Olympics they had an expensive dinner planned in classy spot. Mitt found out and canceled it. He held the meeting in a large room in the hotel and charged $1 a slice for pizza. Romney took no money for running the Olympics or for Governor and donated $1 million to the Olympics. Does that sound like a man that wants to waste our tax payer dollars or pass on debt to our children and grandchildren. The people living off the GOVT are not the ones to fix the problem.

24 Franklin, The Sarah Palin wing of the Party infuriates me. I just loathe passionately the passionate approach to public policy. But there you have it. My negative passion gets directed at those who are different from me, but in my gut I know I really need my brother on the right to man the barracades with me in November. Romney knows that too. No excuses. Massachussetts, Mormon, moderate, whatever. Romney needs to bring in the factions of the Party that don’t love him to really muscle up against Obama. He needs to demonstrate in Oklahoma, Georgia, Tennessee, Missouri, that he has a “No Republican Left Behind” approach.
If Gingrich will step aside, I think Santorum can stand up and go toe to toe with Romney and Romney can beat him in a way that reduces the doubts and fears about him that keeps the Party from being as unified as it needs to be.
An early coronation just leaves too much of the Party frozen in opposition. I really wanted Sarah to run in order to resolve the argument in the Party about who would be best to represent us. At this point I think Santorum will do. Gingrich is just political poison at this point.
January 31st, 2012 at 11:08 am
American politics are no different from a parliament. We just form our governing coalition at ground level with voters, as opposed to the chamber level with other party heads.
The purists who would purge us of those moderates and thinkers who give us the ability to construct a right-leaning governing coalition simply don’t understand DEMOCRACY.
Period.

How does that saying go, Never wrestle with a pig. You both get dirty and besides the pig loves it.
January 31st, 2012 at 11:14 am
Mitt is driven by balancing the budget by the end of a 1st term. That requires 2 things….it requires a sharp increase in growth combined with severe budget cuts….and not in the rate of growth. He intends to cut outright, or combine similar agencies together under one roof.
Note that none of this is the equivalent of what Bush did….or what anyone else in the race would do. All of this is planned in detail.
January 31st, 2012 at 11:17 am
Weather is beautiful today here in South Florida.
GOTV efforts moving forward.
Give us eight more hours to finish the job.
Give em hell Mitt!
January 31st, 2012 at 11:18 am
All you people who believe the 2nd choice polls are fooling yourself. Look back at ALL the polls for the entire election so far… Romney was always listed as the 2nd choice, and yet each and every time the flavor of the month imploded, those voters went to someone other than Romney. When Perry was leading… Romney was supposedly their 2nd choice… and yet Perry’s voters went to Cain, same thing happened when Cain imploded… Romney was shown in all the polls as Cain supporters 2nd choice, and yet when he imploded his support went to Gingrich, then the same thing happened again with Santorum.
January 31st, 2012 at 11:19 am
36, and yet Romney is the only one who has stayed at or near the top. Only one who has finished first or second in every contest. Only one who never really dropped of precipitously in the polls. Only one never in single digits.

Behind every candidate, there are two types of supporters. Those easily swayed by the media and rhetoric, and those who truly like the candidate because of his/her record and approach.
The first group is always the first to go. And they ALL go at once.
The second group stays forever.
Santorum’s first group left him after New Hampshire. His second group is the one that remains. These types tend to be more objective and analytical.

#24 Franklin
Mitt’s “wired” to “fix” things. He’s wired to find solutions. He’s wired to solve problems.
He did not use “liberal” ideology to build up Bain/Bain Capital.
He did not use “liberal” ideology/practices to save the Olympics and leave a surplus.
He did not use “lieberal” ideology to turn around MA deficit into a surplus. He did not raise taxes, but did raise “fees”.
He used free market ideas as much as possible AND input from CONSERVATIVE think tanks to help craft MA healthcare THAT THE people of MA overwhelmingly WANTED! It applied to THEIR state, not the whole country. He has never advocated all states should do it EXACTLY as MA did. He said it could be used as a MODEL but it fit MA’s situation.
HOW is Mitt LIBERAL??
January 31st, 2012 at 11:29 am
this has been a slow process so far….but do you all think it will speed up after tonight?

Because Newt said he was a liberal. And we all know Newt never lies.
January 31st, 2012 at 11:38 am
Newt will NOT help the GOP win in November when he is beyond question unable to win the nomination.
I wonder about Santorum, if it becomes impossible for him to mathmatically win the nomination……if he loves this country enough to get behind Mitt, if he is the nominee, and FIGHT against Obama.
Or…….will Santorum continue to nip at Mitt’s heals with his distortions and lies? It will truly show the CHARACTER of Santorum, won’t it?
I hope Santorum would unite…….I won’t even think it’s possible for Newt to do so.

cough, cough……laugh, laugh…….I feel sorry for the guy, honestly!
January 31st, 2012 at 11:45 am
Assuming Florida is the blowout it looks like, Romney should act like the primary is over and simply focus on Obama and raising money starting tomorrow. End the “horserace” narrative because the math is simply impossible for Newt to overcome, he can’t even get his name on the ballot in key states and has already indicated he’s skipping other contests.
Newt is out of time and money, and you can already sense that even the NotRomney coalition is tired of his antics.
January 31st, 2012 at 11:48 am
At this point…Newt is making enemies by just being himself.
For the life of me I can’t not get why the “conservatives” picked Newt over Santorum.
Neither is actually as conservative as Mitt, but at least Santorum is a good guy.
Newt is a bad guy! The kind you warn your children to stay away from!

Actually, that was the mistake Romney made after NH… he needs to not let up on Gingrich… at least part of his time needs spent keeping Newt down.
Newt is an insider… especially with the right wing media. And Mitt really can’t afford to make the same mistake twice and I don’t think he will.
January 31st, 2012 at 11:51 am
AbN.46,
Veruca Salt was the girl in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory that would throw temper tantrums if she didn’t get what she wanted.

NEWTon’s First Law: An object in motion will stay in motion, unless acted on by an external force. Translation: Newt will always continue to whine like a child when he doesn’t get his way, due to the inertia of his overly-sized ego. He hasn’t changed since he threw a fit after Clinton relegated him back to the back of AF1.
January 31st, 2012 at 11:54 am
Petunia.51,
Unfortunately, you are spot on. I wished Mitt could let up on Newt, but he really can’t. That was the mistake Mitt made after New Hampshire, a mistake he rectified in Florida. Mitt doesn’t usually make the same mistake twice.
January 31st, 2012 at 11:59 am
we don’t expect any one to drop out after tonight / tomorrow DO we I know all the candidates go into the Day of the primary/ caucuses on talk shows and down play the question but some times reality hit’s on primary night ?
January 31st, 2012 at 12:02 pm
#52 Oh yes, I had forgotten, too many sleeps since I read that book. Nice comparison.
January 31st, 2012 at 12:02 pm
Petunia and Mark: You are so right. Newt is a crazy cockroach. He will never, ever give up. And strangely people are supporting him. Newt is like those monster/horror movies. Just when you think you killed him, he comes back to life, grabs you by the ankles and the mud fight is on again.
Just now, Newt’s PAC is running anti-Mitt radio spots right here in California. Newt promised to dog Obama, begging for Lincoln/Douglas debates. Newt will be dogging Mitt everwhere he goes until the convention.
I’ve been screaming here @ Race for months that Newt is nuts. I went to lunch yesterday with some pro-Mitt, anti-Newt people. These are people who pay quite a bit of attention to politics but when I bought up the idea that Newt had mental health issues, they were completely caught off guard. It had never occurred to them.
Just because people got it in FL (apparently), people in other states will have to be educated about Newt.
January 31st, 2012 at 12:07 pm
hey Harold, do you remember this bill Mr. Gingrich sponsered?
The Global Warming Prevention Act of 1989 (H.R. 1078) had144 co-sponsors, the majority of which were liberal Democrats such as Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), then-Rep. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) and Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.) and Rep. John Conyers (D-Mich.). There were only 25 Republican co-sponsors, which included Rep. Gingrich.
The legislation, set a national goal of reducing carbon dioxide levels by at least 20 percent by the year 2000 “through a mix of federal and state energy policies,” as well as “the establishment of an International Global Agreement on the Atmosphere by 1992.”
In addition, the legislation’s summary includes the section “Title XI: World Population Growth.” That section states: “World Population Growth — Declares it is the policy of the United States that family planning services should be made available to all persons requesting them.
So Your beloved Newt was not only for international global warming laws but also government sponsored “family planning” or in terms you can understand, Abortion.
January 31st, 2012 at 12:13 pm
“I have to win this race” just about says it all. My bro in Florida wants Santorum, but they’re voting Romney. Gingrich has disgraced himself lately, they say.
January 31st, 2012 at 12:18 pm
57.
The difference this time is, what contest can Gingrich win in the coming months? It’s a much different ballgame when you go months without even the potential of a win (Newt is not on the ballot in Virginia or Missouri, and his campaign is indicated they’re skipping Michigan and Nevada. Mitt will run the board for the coming months.
The biggest factor, however, is I doubt Romney will give Newt another debate. It’s going to be Newt screaming “Mitt’s a liar” wandering in the wilderness.
Also, will Sheldon Adelson pony up more money? I doubt it after Florida, I think it’s clear he gives a tranche out at a time to make Newt “prove” himself viable by winning a contest. Newt’s fundraising has been poor otherwise, and he’ll likely be broke after Florida.
I certainly don’t mean Romney will not have to still fight, but the more Mitt engages Newt, the more likely it keeps this nonsense continuing.
January 31st, 2012 at 12:21 pm
#59 So are they getting it in FL–that Newt is nuts?
It’s one thing to prefer one decent candidate over another decent candidate, i.e. Mitt v. Santorum. Quite another not to know that a certain candidate is completely unfit for office. I don’t believe a lot of people understand that about Newt quite yet in spite of all the warnings.
January 31st, 2012 at 12:23 pm
I think Newt probably (unfortunately) has one more big surge in him … Either Minn or Georgia. He’ll do what he did in South Carolina … go all in in one or both of those states, and get another surge. It won’t be enough.
I’d LOVE it if Newt dropped out and we had debates between Santorum and Paul and Romney. Those would be terrific IDEAS debates.
Here’s hoping that Santorum gets a late surge of repentant Newtons and is close to Newt in the end ….
January 31st, 2012 at 12:28 pm
#60: You’re right, but it’s not about Newt winning, but it about Newt whining. Fox supports him big time, Palin supports him, Rush supports him. He manages to be everywhere on radio and TV. On Hannity everyday all day. I thought I saw him on Encore Westerns and Home and Garden TV wallpapering a room. He’s ubiquitous with his big fat lying mouth, which is getting worse.
His PAC is playing anti-Mitt ads in CA as we speak.
He will be constant thorn in Mitt’s side as long as people keep giving him any money at all and free air time on conservative radio and TV.
As long as he has ANY forum he will continue to have credibility with some or many–until he can completely be discredited as a complete lying loon.
January 31st, 2012 at 12:30 pm
Newt has hope in the South. He’s the good old naughty Southern boy, family, if you will, and could do well against the mean Massachusetts moderate that Southerners will love to hate.
January 31st, 2012 at 12:38 pm
Xenon.62:“I’d LOVE it if Newt dropped out and we had debates between Santorum and Paul and Romney. Those would be terrific IDEAS debates.”
Oh criminy yes, Yes!
I’ve been a Romney man all along, but I would absolutely LOVE such a debate. Let’s get the ideas out on the table and discuss them. It would be nirvana.
Unfortunately there remains Newt. Isn’t it ironic that a man with the supposed reputation of be the big ideas guy is making it nigh impossible to have a civilized, adult conversation about the issues?
January 31st, 2012 at 12:41 pm
Does this mean no 3rd party run?
January 31st, 2012 at 12:51 pm
Its crap like this that will continue to bring more and more votes to Santorum. Newt is right that the conservatives must unite to beat Romney….but they wont be uniting around him!
January 31st, 2012 at 1:01 pm
#66: Jarvis: Trump is doing a big strip tease just like Palin did. He loves keeping his name in the news. But Trump is not stupid; and he does NOT want Obama. The Donald has seemed to favor Mitt all along (even tho Newt “belongs to Trump’s golf club.)
If Mitt emerges triumphant over Newt and looks like he can beat Obama, then Trump will endorse.
I don’t believe Trump is so delusional he believes that a 3rd party would do anything but insure an Obama win.
January 31st, 2012 at 1:13 pm
66. Trump is one of the few people with a bigger ego than Newt. He’s going to milk this new publicity as much as possible. This was his announcement that he will be announcing that he will be endorsing someone… at some point in the future. The carny-barker with the bad hairpiece adds zero value to this primary.
January 31st, 2012 at 1:18 pm
So Your beloved Newt was not only for international global warming laws but also government sponsored “family planning” or in terms you can understand, Abortion.
.
No doubt, Willard and Gingrich are like on the global warming kookiness.
But unlike Willard, I don’t think I’ve ever heard it claimed that Gingrich was pro-abortion, and I highly doubt that what you’re claiming here is true. The Hyde Amendment was operative in that era, and the Mexico City policy, which had long been fought over. But if it were true, I assure you, there’s little chance Gingrich could have ever been Speaker in 1994. Poppy Bush had to swallow his pro abortion views, if you recall, to get anywhere in R politics, very much like Willard’s tried to do all these years.
No, Willard is the only baby killer in this primary, as I’m sure you know. That’s a big part of the overstructure of his Anybody But Willard ceiling. The pro-lifers really do mean what they say, unlike Willard.

Well Harold he was supporting embryonic stem cell research… and he sleeps around a man who sleeps around has to be pro-choice, to cover his tracks.

The polls indicate that most of Santorum’s supporters would actually go to Romney. So… ya, Newt… keep encouraging people to switch to Romney.

Newt is only doing Romney a favor by claiming to be more conservative.
1) moderates and independents will go for Romney and
2) nobody with a brain really believes that Newt is much of a conservative, or at least there is plenty of room to question his credibility on that score, not to mention his electability… so Romney will get the conservatives as well… as the polls are beginning to indicate.

It is so ridiculous to say that Romney has a ceiling while maintaining the other candidates do not. Romney may have a ceiling, but it is higher than any of the other candidates and rises the fastest as others drop out of the race. The “anti-Romney” crowd is mostly media spin, and most people that support another candidate have Romney as their 2nd choice.
Newt has jumped on to this “anti-Romney” hype to his own detriment.

I’m not ashamed to be a Romney supporter but Santorum is my second choice and is a good man. I would not be displeased if it came down to either Romney OR Santorum. I will however, change my voter registration to Libertarian/Independent if the GOP nominates Newt. I would be humiliated for my own party.

It is moments like this one when I am proud to say that I am not now (not have I ever been) a Gingrich supporter.

Newt Gingrich will win in Florida..or else there will have been electoral fraud if he doesn’t. All the pollsters are involved in trying to marginalize him, but it will not work.
OCCUPY WALLSTREET for GINGRICH!
