Newt Gingrich 2009: We Need a Mandate in Obamacare and By the Way the Process is Awesome

Pretty devastating stuff here.  Only thing that will save his campaign is if the media ignores it.

  1. Jason Demarcus Says:

It’s over. Gingrich has no way to criticize Romney anymore. This is exactly what Romney’s argument is but on a bigger scale.

  2. asparagus Says:

This is so dishonest. Gingrich clearly supported “must carry”, not an individual mandate. Get your facts straight!

  3. Will Walworth Says:

Just another of his grandiose ideas to come back and bite him on his ample backside.

  4. Adam Graham Says:

    #2:

Please explain the difference between saying everyone “must carry” health insurance and mandating that everyone carry health insurance. Please don’t hurt yourself performing the required contortions.

  5. Harold Says:

    So what’s the big deal?

They’re equal on this issue, is this news to you willardbots? Are you seriously telling me you didn’t know about this?

Come on, gang. The only outlier here is that Willard actually invented ObomneyCare, but otherwise, he’s on equal footing with both Gingrich and Obama on the underlying fundamentals of ObomneyCare.

Give you some advice here, fever swampers. Don’t get your panties in a bunch, and just let sleeping dogs lie. The very last thing Willard wants to do is go around the country yapping about ObomneyCare. He should just keep telling the lie that he’s gonna kill ObomneyCare, and hope that people will believe this latest lie.

  6. asparagus Says:

Sorry I was channeling Newt. Nice post.

  7. Adam Graham Says:

    #6:

No, my apology. I missed the sarcasm.

  8. jaxemer11 Says:

Of course he did. This isn’t a secret. What is baffling is that so many “tea partiers” either ignore it or are too dumb to know about it.

  9. Case Says:

Newt tried to say he wasn’t for a mandate in a debate that Mitt called him on (what was it 7 or 8 debates ago?). Guess that makes newt dishonest according to how Newt is claiming Mitt says things in debates that aren’t true. Hmmmm.

  10. Massachusetts Conservative Says:

    5

They are equal on this issue?

Um, buddy, Romney opposed Obamacare from DAY ONE of its inception, and has OPPOSED a federal government takeover his WHOLE LIFE.

Gingrich SUPPORTED OBAMACARE. He BEGGED for the mandate.

Further, the whole reason for supporting Gingrich is gone. He SUPPORTED OBAMACARE.

  11. Massachusetts Conservative Says:

SPREAD THIS VIDEO EVERYWHERE. We need to STOP NOOT from destroying the party. Run him out of the race.

  12. ogrepete Says:

    Good post, Adam.

  13. Case Says:

Remember, people aren’t “for” Newt. They are “against” Mitt. Big difference.

Can you imagine putting a guy like Newt in charge of your company……. It’s your money, and you trust him with it? YOu trust his lack of organization to make your business successful?

  14. aspire Says:

6 You were supposed to add that you never called Spanish the language of the Ghetto.

10 Besides, have you ever seen Romney’s origional bill. It was easy to set aside money and opt out, and if you didn’t have money set aside then the tax credit you lost was set aside in an interest saving account until you did (as I recall). THAT shows better how Romney thinks and what he supports, but people just ignore it.

  15. aspire Says:

Should we all do our shocked faces? :-O

As if we thought Gingrich was the true conservative he claims to be.

  16. eddy Says:

Newt, what is the matter with him? He is just such a phoney hypocrite. UGH!!

  17. Booyeah Says:

    WHERE IS SMACK.

    WHERE IS CRAIG.

    WHERE IS TELE.

    WHERE IS HAROLD.

Even when Romney was down, we stayed on this site, defending him. When reality hits the fan, these guys are nowhere to be seen.

  18. Dr J Says:

This seems to show that Newt advocated the individual mandate for the entire country, not just a state like Romney did.

Once that sinks in, Gingrich will fall to third or maybe even fourth place.

In that case, Santorum will be the main opposition to Romney after Florida. Santorum could win some Southern states, maybe even Texas, if the pastors push him, but February looks so terrible for everyone else except Mitt that I would be surprised if this thing lasts until April.

If I was a Santorum supporter, I would try to work on Texas.

  19. Massachusetts Conservative Says:

Fox Newt Channel has Noot on, as usual. Jesus.

  20. BD1 Says:

    Send this to Drudge

  21. Massachusetts Conservative Says:

    20

    How?

  22. Jeff Y Says:

Wow, Adam, you’re on a roll today. Great posts.

  23. Booyeah Says:

19, I think the only encouraging thing about this election cycle is that, win or lose, Mitt has done this without the traditional Republican allies. No Rush, no Fox, no WSJ, nothing. And obviously not MSM support.

He has done this entirely on his own, building the campaign, getting endorsements, etc.

The power of the new MSM (read: conservative media that is more profitable than the so-called MSMS) has been reduced to essentially nothing this cycle.

A lot of folks have woken up.

  24. Massachusetts Conservative Says:

    20

    Oh, I see.

  25. Micah Says:

    17.

Their chinckens have come home to roost.

  26. aspire Says:

Since the Gingrich peeps aren’t here, let me fill in – seriously not joking.

How damaging is this really? Yes he advocated for this on a National level, however he does allow for people to post a bond. So all it seems to do is inoculate Romney against HIS attacks, since that was close to what Romney was advocating for on a state level.
Where it might really hurt him is if people can put this together with other things he’s said to make him out to be a liar on this issue. Did he ever deny having this position? If now, then how damaging is this really?

  27. Adam Graham Says:

    #18:

Some states are interesting for Santorum. Missouri looks good. Colorado and Minnesota could be interesting. I wouldn’t forget Michigan which while having some home state advantages for Romney may also offer Santorum an opportunity to pick up delegates. Super Tuesday also has some good states including Ohio and Oklahoma.

  28. Booyeah Says:

21, at the bottom of his page. I just submitted it.

    Bottom-right.

  29. aspire Says:

23 The nice part about that is Romney will only be stronger in the GE than he is not. Instead of the media turning against him, part of it will turn in his favor.

  30. Doug NYC GOP Says:

#17 = Craig is busy working his two jobs.

    1) Daytime Men’s Room Attendant at Newport Beach

    2) Overnight Cashier at Sid’s Waterbed Motel and Adult Book Store

  31. Massachusetts Conservative Says:

    28

I did too. Tweet him if you can as well

  32. Grover71 Says:

Thanks for getting that up there Adam!

  33. Booyeah Says:

    31, tweeted.

All over this. This site will help break open this incredibly damaging statement.

None of this 1993, I was wrong, and I admit it crap. This is the Newt that could afford to be honest in 2009. Incredibly damaging stuff.

  34. Massachusetts Conservative Says:

    33

Verum Serum broke it, but no one reads them anyway (right?)

  35. Massachusetts Conservative Says:

    33

I posted it on another blog site, and I plan on emailing it to practically every media figure possible when I have time.

  36. Grover71 Says:

28 & 31 I did as well. us MA Conservatives have to stick together!

  37. Grover71 Says:

“This is the kind of general model we will be advocating” hmmm. I didn’t think Historians “advocate”

  38. GNV Says:

So, Romney–who’s been consistent, but not inflammatory, and responds to things on a case-by-case basis–is blasted as the guy who’ll say anything to get elected.

And Newt, who does stupid stuff like this, is THE HISTORICALLY SECOND FRANKLY COMING FUNDAMENTALLY OF GRANDIOSE REAGAN ZOMFG!!!

  39. aspire Says:

37 He has admitted to advocating for stuff as a “private citizen”, do you think this will stick as evidence he lobbied, or do you think it will be spun?

  40. Grover71 Says:

The difference between Newt and Mitt is that Newt will destroy the Republican party to get elected, whereas Mitt only wants to destroy Newt to get elected.

  41. Grover71 Says:

    39. Just another thing that does not look good.

  42. aspire Says:

41 No looks horrible, and if you were judging Gingrich by the same method he judges Romney you’d have to call him out as a liar after this came out.

  43. Franko Says:

Can we have a link to this youtube video so that we can spread it around?

  44. K.G. Says:

Huh? Newt gets paid $25,000 a week (or what ever it was) to do much nothing for Freddie, but lobbies for free as a private citizen?

  45. Grover71 Says:

    43. Here ya go! http://www.verumserum.com/?p=37290

  46. Massachusetts Conservative Says:

    43

Click on the video to play it, hover your cursor over the video (in which case the title of the video shows within the video viewer box), and click the title. It will open the video in a new page and you can copy the URL from there.

  47. Grover71 Says:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=QSXJLZx5mpY

    Actual link on Youtube

  48. Liz Says:

Now pull out Santorum’s mandate endorsement – yes there is one. Everyone is allowed to be a phony except for Mitt. Who, thankfully, is the frontrunner.

  49. Adam Graham Says:

    #48:

There was no mandate endorsement. All they have one newspaper quoting him and another Republican Candidate indirectly in a very vague way. The only video we have of Santorum from 1994 is pretty darn clear.

    All:

This is breaking. Hot Air has the video up. I forwarded it to a friend with a radio show on the American Family Radio Network and he’ll be running the clip tomorrow. This is breaking hard and Newt won’t be able to hide it.

But keep on sending this and posting it on Facebook.

  50. Flagkeeper Says:

Too bad so many would-be conservatives, along with the MSM and even DNC “must carry” the water for Newt. At the core, this was always about ABR, or ABLDS. How far will they go? Throw capitalism under the bus? Check. We’ll see if the DNC will be willing to throw Reid under the bus, though conservatives already have many reasons to do that. Sooo does that mean anyone will come to his defense when this happens??? Things may get weird.

  51. Massachusetts Conservative Says:

    49

The best thing to do is send it to Drudge. When he gets a hold of it, everyone runs it.

  52. hamaca Says:

    49. Very cool, Adam.

  53. zeek Says:

Limbaugh use to scream all the time “Character matters” during the era of Clinton. Now we have the hypocrisy of newt and limbaugh protects him as much as the media protected Clinton.

I’d like to make a comparison to those who carry the water for newt. I have a friend who has farm animals. He has an interesting way to break fat lazy dogs that kill chickens. First he slaps the dog with the dead chicken and then he ties it to the dog. He makes that dog have that dead chicken on his back for a period of time. He swears it breaks the dog of the horrible habit. Limbaugh, palin and a few others need to have the political chicken carcass of newt tied to them to break them of such a horrible habit.

So when newt finally is forced out and limbaugh is resigned to back Romney what will happen when he says character matters and we should vote for Romney over Obama. Limbaugh and palin’s dead chicken will be there to discredit them.

My brother just shared with me a “de-motivation poster” It said “family Values” with a picture of newt Gingrinch. The tag line said “family values= When you use the daughter from your first marraige, to say that the wife of your second marriage is lying about the wife from your third marriage.”

Evangelicals… Please imagine Newt Gingrinch standing and debating the importance of traditional marriage against an opponent who is for same sex marriage. The debate can only end one way, and it will end the same way every time. “We can end this two hour debate in 30 seconds. Newt as the designated expert for your cause tell us how your broken relationships and three marriages have proven the sanctity of traditional marraige.

Now hypocritical social conservatves how does that dead chicken feel flapping around on your back.

  54. asparagus Says:

    Family values

  55. Conservative Gladiator Says:

    53 – That’s a great comparison.

  56. Jaxemer11 Says:

53 – Limbaugh was lying. He doesn’t have any character. Why would character matter to him?

  57. Jaxemer11 Says:

Seriously though, I don’t think this does anything to him. He said something almost identical to this last May in the MTP interview, and no one has called him on it at all. Newt just gets a pass on this, for some reason, while people continue to pile on Romney for something that isn’t even close to this. Apparently, if you lie about changing your mind you get a free pass this year (as opposed to being labeled a “flip-flopper”).

  58. Silvia Marquis Says:

You got to be kidding ! I heard it before in the Kennedy – Nixon race but I am still shocked to hear ” I am voting for him because he is handsome” . Wake up lady ! If Mitt Romney looks like Barbie’s Ken that does NOT qualify Mitt Romney to be President of The United States. OMG how shallow …………..

Additionally pollster Towery said Gingrich is doing “substantially better” with men than Romney, 38 to 28, but the former House Speaker still faces a “gender gap,” as women are still favoring Romney.

Please Ladies think about this. Ken Oups ! I mean Mitt Romney was empty whole companies into his pockets putting working women and men into the streets. Then sent their jobs to China and Mexico. Mitt Romney was also raided retirement funds and put the money in his pockets also robbing women and men of security in their Golden Years. Mitt Romeny is receiving the working women and men sweat and blood at a rate of over $51,000 DOLLARS a DAY as income !!!!! Anything goes to make a dollar is NOT Capitalism. The drug dealer or corporate raider are both wrong. The business venture was three separate parameters is it moral, ethical, or legal. The drug dealer is immoral and illegal. Mitt Romney is immoral and unethical. Mitt Romney is not and NEVER was in business to create jobs. Mitt Romney wants to make money and any human cost incurred is inconsequential. That includes human cost to women who think Mitt Romney should be President because he is handsome or looks like Ken.

Ladies PLEASE reconsider !!!!!!!!!!!!! A lot is a stake here.

  59. NY4Romney Says:

Just emailed this to the Romney campaign. Hopefully this can help him beat Newt!
