Poll Watch: ABC News/Univision Florida Latino Survey

ABC News decided to conduct an all-Latino political survey in Florida, and the results are quite telling:

ABC News/Univision Florida Latino Political Survey

Among Republican Latinos:

  • Romney – 49%
  • Gingrich – 23%

Among all Florida Latinos:

  • Romney – 35%
  • Gingrich – 20%

Among Cuban-Americans:

  • Romney – 49%
  • Gingrich – 17%

Among Puerto Ricans:

  • Romney – 22%
  • Gingrich – 12%

Among Other Latinos (Central & South Americans):

  • Romney – 29%
  • Gingrich – 21%

Presidential Matchup Among All Latinos:

  • Obama– 50%
  • Romney – 40%
  • Obama– 52%
  • Gingrich – 38%

Survey of 517 registered Latino voters in Florida was conducted Jan 16-23 and has a +/-4.4% margin of error.

ABC notes, “Thus far, Gingrich’s shocking victory in Saturday’s South Carolina primary has not triggered a significant boost in his Latino support in Florida. In the final days of polling, Sunday and Monday, Gingrich’s Latino support in Florida only increased by 2 percentage points.”

We’ll see how well Gingrich’s “anti-immigrant” ads go over in a voting bloc that is decidedly on Romney’s side in this contest.

No wonder Gingrich is out there lying in Spanish.

    Big difference.

    Viva Newt!

  3. Hudson Valley Rep Says:

Romney getting 40% of Latinos means he is the next president of the USA.

  4. Teemu Says:

2008 Florida Republican primary poll showed that almost 64% of Hispanic turnout was Cuban.

Of general election Florida Hispanic turnout or total Hispanic population, don’t remember which one, Puerto Rican and Cuban Hispanics both are around 35%, 70% total. So of the 36% non-Cuban Hispanic turnout in the primary, most of it is in all likelyhood Puerto Rican. So my guess is that Republican primary Hispanic turnout is 85-90% Cuban and Puerto Rican.

Since Cuba still has privileged immigration status, get your feet on the land and you can stay, and Puerto Rico is part of the United States, they might even see illegal Central American immigration as competition.

Considering this and the “Spanish is language of ghetto” tape from Gingrich, and endorsements from most Cuban American congressmen and significant politicians, Romney should do fine.

  5. CF Says:

    WOOOO HOOO!!

    I just can’t stop smiling. :)

  6. Micah Says:

    2. Love how Rubio is ripping Newt – dont you?

    Romney / Rubio!

  7. Teemu Says:

So I don’t think “I’m more pro-immigration (mostly Mexican and other Central American illegal immigration) than Romney” if Gingrich tries that, I don’t think it’s going to get that many Florida Hispanic votes.

  8. Dave Says:

The Cuban-American tally doesn’t surprise me, but the vote among other Hispanics does.

Consider that less than half the Latino population in Florida is Cuban, and 40% seems REALLY good.

  9. NoMoreModerates Says:

During a Monday roundtable with business owners struggling in Florida’s hobbled housing market, the moderate Massachusetts governor with progressive views said:

“The banks are scared to death, of course,” he said. “They’re feeling the same thing that you’re feeling.”

    http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-505245_162-57365607/romney-talks-housing-ends-up-defending-banks/

That is not going to play well among latinos or anyone else.

  10. CF Says:

Craig for Newt Gingrich and Marco Rubio

Thanks for supporting the Romney campaign Craig!

  11. Not Your Promiscuous Daddy Says:

God bless our Latino neighbors and friends.

ARG’s final South Carolina poll, FYI:

Does this mean their Florida polling is accurate, too?

  13. Jeff Fuller Says:

Where are Tele and Smack with their guarantees that Newt was going to smoke Romney among the Cuban Community ???

    Among Cuban-Americans:
    Romney – 49%
    Gingrich – 17%

    LOLOLOLOL . . .

I DEARLY hope all good GOPers are pressuring Rubio to come out with a Romney endorsement. They don’t want to be on a ballot with Newt at the top of the ticket. All the GOP stands to be hurt with a prolonged primary AND a ethically-challenged Nominee.

    GO MITT!

  14. Matt C Says:

By the way, in 2008 McCain won the Latino vote against Romney in Florida by a 54-14 margin (and won the state by 5%). For Romney to now be leading Gingrich by a 49-23 margin is fantastic news for Romney.

  15. Reginald from Texas Says:

marco rubio’s is energizing latino voters to get out and vote in huge numbers. he is holding a couple of Latino rallies later this week

  16. Craig for Newt Gingrich and Marco Rubio Says:

    12.

    Nice try, Romboot,

Anyone can ADJUST their poll in the end.

ARG is an embarrassment to the industry. Period.

  17. CF Says:

Hispanics make up 22% of Florida’s population. They could be the key for Romney’s win in the state – especially with Rubios support for Romney.

  18. Craig for Newt Gingrich and Marco Rubio Says:

    Dr. Jeff,

Marco won’t ever endorse Willard in the next six days.

    There, I said it.

    Go Newt/Marco! Beat Barack/Joey!

  19. Reginald from Texas Says:

latinos love john mccain and listen to him

  20. Craig for Newt Gingrich and Marco Rubio Says:

    15.

TOO bad, Willard’s not invited to Marco’s rallies.

I’m sure he’s been on his knees, “Por Favor!!”

    ;) ROTF..

  21. CF Says:

Mitt now leading Newt on Intrade! 50 – 47!

  22. Teemu Says:

Rubio scolds Gingrich camp, says ad bashing ‘anti-immigrant’ Romney is ‘inaccurate, inflammatory’

  23. jerry Says:

The latino vote in Florida only makes up 11% of the rebublican primary. So I wouldn’t get too excited just yet. Gingrich still leads the white conservative vote by double digits. More than enough to make up the difference.

  24. Greg Says:

Romney is leading Gingrich 44-34 in voters polled on January 24th, one day after the debate.

  25. Mark in PA Says:

    18
    I didn’t dare to hope,

…but now that Craig has declared it to be impossible, I’m ready to bet the farm that Rubio comes out and endorses!
