New Romney Florida Spanish Language Radio Ad: “Hechos”

Here’s the English transcript:

VOICEOVER: “Newt Gingrich claims to be a Reagan conservative. Let’s review the facts. Gingrich said that he would not change the failed policy of Barack Obama on travel to Cuba that serves to fill the regime’s coffers and increase repression on the island. I don’t think Reagan would agree with Gingrich.”

  • When Asked In November Whether He Would Shut Down The Air Travel Allowed By President Obama Newt Gingrich Said “No.” “That last promise seems to conflict with his answer to Yahoo News in November, when he was asked: ‘President Obama has opened more air travel to the island. Would you shut down those flights?’ Said Gingrich: “No, but I would very aggressively move towards maximizing dissent inside Cuba. Mostly covert, and also just subsidies.” (Marc Caputo, “Gingrich Takes On Romney, Immigration And Castro Brothers,” Miami Herald, 1/12/12)

VOICEOVER: “Gingrich profited from Freddie Mac, one of the reasons for the mortgage collapse that has caused so much damage in our community.”

  • Gingrich Reportedly Was Paid Between $1.6 Million And $1.8 Million By Freddie Mac. “Newt Gingrich made between $1.6 million and $1.8 million in consulting fees from two contracts with mortgage company Freddie Mac, according to two people familiar with the arrangement.” (Clea Benson and John McCormick, “Gingrich Said To Be Paid About $1.6 Million By Freddie Mac,” Bloomberg, 11/16/11)

VOICEOVER: “Reagan would have never partnered-up with Nancy Pelosi to advance the extreme left agenda, as Gingrich did.”

  • Sitting On A Couch In Front Of The Capitol, Gingrich And Pelosi Called On America’s Leaders To “Take Action To Address Climate Change.” PELOSI: “Hi! I’m Nancy Pelosi, life-long Democrat and Speaker of the House.” GINGRICH: “And I’m Newt Gingrich, life-long Republican, and I used to be Speaker.” PELOSI: “We don’t always see eye to eye, do we Newt?” GINGRICH: “No, but we do agree: our country must take action to address climate change.” PELOSI: “We need cleaner forms of energy, and we need them fast.” GINGRICH: “If enough of us demand action from our leaders, we can spark the innovation we need.” PELOSI: “Go to WeCanSolveIt.org. Together, we can do this.” (The We Campaign, YouTube.com, 4/24/08)

VOICEOVER: “And Reagan definitely would have never offended us, Hispanics, as Gingrich did by saying that Spanish is the language of the ghetto. Now, searching for votes, Gingrich wants to change history but the facts speak for themselves.”

  • Gingrich: Spanish Is The “Language Of Living In A Ghetto.” “We should replace bilingual education with immersion in English so people learn the common language of the country and they learn the language of prosperity, not the language of living in a ghetto.” (Kasie Hunt, “Gingrich Decries `Ghetto’ Nature Of Bilingual Education,” The Associated Press, 3/31/07)

VOICEOVER: “Paid for by Romney for President, Incorporated.”

MITT ROMNEY: “I am Mitt Romney. I am running for President and I approve this message.”

  2. Sean Says:

“And Reagan definitely would have never offended us, Hispanics, as Gingrich did by saying that Spanish is the language of the ghetto”

    They did bring it out.

  3. Dave Says:

Based on the earlier poll, it would appear that Newt’s Spanish Language ad doesn’t seem to be working.

  4. ccr Says:

Factual, truthful ads against Gingrich………yes! Mitt…stay on the offensive against the likes of Gingrich! He does NOT represent me in the Republican party ……AT ALL!

  5. Thunder (Romney/Rubio 2012) Says:

Should run this in English all over the air waves…

  6. Thunder (Romney/Rubio 2012) Says:

I was very concerned during the SC primary. The air waves were all negative ads by Newt and his pack, but now, its all Romney, all the time or negative against Newt.

Language of the ghetto gloves OFF!!!

He WILL talk about it tomorrow. Ohhhh my God. NUCLEAR.

  9. Nodaker Says:

The thing about Gingrich is that, while he has been solid on some conservative issues, he has certainly been “unreliable” at times like Santorum and others have claimed. Very interesting. A pretty eye-opening piece on Gingrich vs. Reagan, by a former Reagan official at State, and how Gingrich was not always the “reliable ally” that Reagan needed on really big issues – like the strategy to diminish the Soviet Union. Enjoy:

    http://www.nationalreview.com/articles/289159/gingrich-and-reagan-elliott-abrams

Nothing like getting stabbed in the back by Gingrich at critical, decisive moments – as now apparently happened to Reagan, Bush the 41st, and Bush the 43rd – see the article. A pretty devastating indictment of Gingrich’s reliability in tough times. His need to be liked or focused on seems to over-ride his commitment to the right course in these situations.

  10. CF Says:

    9

The best examples come from a famous floor statement Gingrich made on March 21, 1986. This was right in the middle of the fight over funding for the Nicaraguan contras; the money had been cut off by Congress in 1985, though Reagan got $100 million for this cause in 1986. Here is Gingrich: “Measured against the scale and momentum of the Soviet empire’s challenge, the Reagan administration has failed, is failing, and without a dramatic change in strategy will continue to fail. . . . President Reagan is clearly failing.

Wow! Sounds like Newt hated Reagan.

  11. Massachusetts Conservative Says:

THANK GOD THEY BROUGHT OUT THE GHETTO LANGUAGE THING… IT WILL KILL HIM IN FL.

  12. CF Says:

Gingrich scorned Reagan’s speeches, which moved a party and then a nation, because “the president of the United States cannot discipline himself to use the correct language.” In Afghanistan, Reagan’s policy was marked by “impotence [and] incompetence.” Thus Gingrich concluded as he surveyed five years of Reagan in power that “we have been losing the struggle with the Soviet empire.” Reagan did not know what he was doing, and “it is precisely at the vision and strategy levels that the Soviet empire today is superior to the free world.”

The second point to make is that Gingrich made these assaults on the Reagan administration just as Democratic attacks were heating up unmercifully. Far from becoming a reliable voice for Reagan policy and the struggle against the Soviets, Gingrich took on Reagan and his administration.

  13. Boomer Says:

They just showed the clip of him getting grilled on that at the Univision debate today. It did not go well for Newt.

  18. Think You Know Newt? Says:

    Trivia question:
Which current Republican Presidential candidate has advocated moving the party toward the center, and away from Reagan, and in 1988, said this: “The years of 1980, 1984 are the past…If George Bush runs as a continuation of Reaganism, I think he’ll lose. Because I think on election day, the American people if given a chance between more of eight years, and something new, they’ll vote for something new.”

Another huge crowd in Florida for Newt according to CBS. This picture was taken in Coral Springs, FL.

  22. CF Says:

    21

Huge crowd? I see about 50.

  23. rightgal Says:

Smack, Define ‘big’. It’s a strip mall parking lot, and it’s not that ‘big’. But hey, he said he had over 3K there yesterday, when Cameron who was there (and not a mitt fan) said it was less than 1K.

  24. Craig for Newt Gingrich and Marco Rubio Says:

    12.

    :)

Reagan’s Young Lieutenant. Gingrich a star on Reagan team.

Gingrich a star on Reagan team: Romney “work product” as conservative at issue. Mitt Romney has raised the issue of Newt Gingrich’s “work product.” Wow. Intended to prod the former Speaker on the issue of his work for Freddie Mac (Gingrich last night released his contract with Freddie), the question, as seems to be a Romney characteristic, has clumsily backfired. It raises an all-too obvious question that is becoming increasingly revealing.

What is Mitt Romney’s “work product” for the conservative cause?

The closest Mitt Romney ever got to the Reagan Revolution is apparently because he reads about it 30 years later. And he isn’t even reading everything he should. This is the man, remember, who proudly professed when running against Ted Kennedy in 1994: “I was an independent during the time of Reagan-Bush. I’m not trying to return to Reagan-Bush”

A peculiar stance considering Reagan carried Massachusetts twice in his two presidential landslides.

Romney now assures that Newt Gingrich — who actually had a serious and considerably well-known role working with Reagan — had little role in it.

(By the way, Reagan won over 1,310,936 votes and over 51 percent in Massachusetts in his 1984 re-election race, while Romney won his solitary gubernatorial victory in 2002 with 1,091,988 votes and 49.77 percent. Which is to say, Reagan outpolled Romney by over 200,000. In 1980, third party candidate John Anderson drew off 15 percent of Reagan’s vote, otherwise, one suspects, Reagan would have trumped Romney then as well.)

Bad day for William Jeffereson Gingrich. :(

    24:
That article is written by Jeffrey Lord, a former Reagan White House associate political director

There was 70 “associate something” in 2004 Bush White House, so having one random “associate something” to endorse Gingrich really doesn’t matter that much.

Look at the picture two stories down from the top.

Yeah…you guys are right. No big crowds for Newt in FL…no energy.

It’s gonna be close in the Sunshine State…..real close.

  34. CF Says:

Some of former House Speaker Newt Gingrich’s runaway momentum following his victory in the South Carolina primary appears to have abated. The Republican firm American Research Group today released a poll that shows Romney maintaining a narrow lead among likely Republican voters in Florida; Romney leads Gingrich with 41 to 34 percent of the vote.

In that poll, former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum drew 9 percent support and Texas Rep. Ron Paul claimed 7 percent support. 6 percent of the vote remains undecided in the Sunshine State.

Romney leads Gingrich in early and absentee votes, which have been ongoing for weeks. While more than 80 percent of voters have not yet cast their votes, of the 17 percent that have Romney leads with 51 percent of the vote to Gingrich’s 33 percent.

    http://www.ology.com/politics/poll-shows-romney-holding-narrow-lead-florida-trouncing-gingrich-early-voting/01252012

Wow, Romney creaming Newt in early voting.

  35. Micah Says:

Craig for Losers (we know how to cut-and-paste also)

Mitt Romney to win the 2012 Florida Primary ——- 54.8%

Newt Gingrich to win the 2012 Florida Primary ——- 45.0%

  36. CF Says:

    33

Not that many people there. The people extend only to about the back of the bunch. Maybe 60-70? Romney had thousands the other night during his speech.

  37. CF Says:

If Romney wins Florida. It’s ALLLLLLL OVER.

    I just can’t stop smiling! ;)

  38. Teemu Says:

    32:
That is just list of Bush White House staff. Do a web page search on that site and you find there are 70 hits starting with associate, so some one random White House staff associate doesn’t mean that much, are you claiming that list has too many associates for Bush 2004 White house?

  39. Craig for Newt Gingrich and Marco Rubio Says:

    35.

    Who finally taught you?

    You’re welcome. ;)

  40. Massachusetts Conservative Says:

    9

    WOW!! Damning stuff, there!

  41. Micah Says:

    34. That’s huge! 17% have already voted.

    51% Romney
    33% Newt

    Ouch!

  42. Reginald from Texas Says:

KABOOM. Once again, Newts words coming back to haunt him in a big way. When you spout off and contradict your self as routinely as Newt has, you leave a lot of ammunition in your wake.

  43. Craig for Newt Gingrich and Marco Rubio Says:

    Btw,

Intrade Florida 51 to 49 at this moment.

    8)

“Newt outspent 17 to one in negative ads”

  44. Reginald from Texas Says:

In tough times, you CANNOT rely on Newt. Ask Reagan, Bush I, Bush II and his ex-wives. He left each of them after they fell ill.

  45. jaaron Says:

43 – so much material. Surprised it’s only by that amount.

  46. Craig for Newt Gingrich and Marco Rubio Says:

    41.

Someone you know does not agree with your guess.

Charles Krauthammer (aka Rombot Kraut) notes that he calculates 1 in 7 in FL has already voted and can expect an 11 point Romney jump. However, Newt only would need a 2 point win with remaining voters to win the Florida election. With a 9 point lead, Romney is in trouble.

Charles says he call ‘em as he sees ‘em. This is what he sees.

  47. Reginald from Texas Says:

    46. But there is no 9 point lead. Have you not seen the recent 3-4 polls

  48. Sean Says:

Yeah Craig there is no more 9pt lead. You’re reading old polls.

  49. Smack1968 Says:

FL PPP poll had it 43-40 for Mitt in early voting.

I will take PPP accuracy over ARG any day of the week.

This race is going to close…no one is crushing.

Florida is very diversed…much more difficult to poll.

  50. Micah Says:

    43. That seems about right with Newt having about 17 to 1 in baggage compared to Romney.

  51. Conservative Gladiator Says:

43 – They’re not negative when it’s the truth. Gingrich wanted Romney to bring it? It’s just begun. Romney’s not going to be lulled into thinking that Gingrich is down anymore. He’s one move away from putting his foot on his neck and squeezing. DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE a man who is as successful as Mitt Romney has been. Gingrich and Gingrich conservatives thought Romney is too soft and timid and nice. You don’t build billion dollar corporations being soft and timid and nice. You don’t turn things around by being timid. You don’t go into an 85% opposition legislature and run conservative unless you’re ready to bring the fire. I’ve said it before that Romney has barely lifted a finger against what’s been coming at him and he’s just firing the beginning salvos of the nuclear arsenal he has to put this thing away and what’s ahead for Obama.

  52. Boomer Says:

    46.

    1) Krauthammer is not in the tank for Romney. He just doesn’t like Newt. Understandable.

    2) Krauthammer is not a pollster or an election aficionado, just a political commentator. He has no better view into the voting totals so far in FL than we do.

  53. Angry Conservative Says:

If Florida comes down to the wire, I don’t see either candidate just dropping off the map. If a blowout occurs, then there will be another wild polling graph coming next week.

  54. Watchinitall Says:

    46. Keep your selective filter motor running at full speed. Don’t forget. I begged you for pollspam, and got nothing.

  55. ccr Says:

“Conservatives should not be surprised by the scandals that lie ahead, if they stick with him.”

    GREAT read….Drudge link!

  56. Frozone Says:

#9. The Abrams piece is quite good.

FPP: Welcome (back) to the spotlight, Newton. The Klieg lights don’t flatter you so much, and you definitely don’t look good in HD…

  57. K.G. Says:

#9 The Abrams piece, IMO, is the most damning piece against Newt to date. It undermines Newt’s entire raison d’etre for becoming POTUS.

  58. Frozone Says:

    #44. Interesting point.

Which candidate found a way to bring a loved one (ok, family pet) on a vacation, even when it was inconvenient (the dog was sick when they left)? Loyalty, love?

Which candidate throws even his loved ones under the bus when they become inconvient for his personal (presidential) ambitions?

A man’s character is demonstrated by both big and small things: a sum total of a life’s decisions and actions, when people are watching, and when they are not.

It’s a stark contrast, folks. On the one had, you have a team player, always looking out for others, self effacing, self deprecating, generous with his time and money. And on the other, a self-centered egotist.

I’ll go with the team player, because as Red Green would say: “We’re all in this together…”

  59. Craig for Newt Gingrich and Marco Rubio Says:

    54.

What are you blabbering about again, Watchini?

Take your meds. It’ll be fine.

  60. Anybody but NEWT Says:

#15 That was an incredible speech, This will show up in the debate.

  61. Angry Conservative Says:

I’m not getting my hopes up. The Tea Party and Very Conservatives will just ignore and support Newt, even in Floirda. For once, wake up! When you have Sarah Palin attacking Chris Christie you know something is not right out there.

  62. CF Says:

Why Newt Gingrich’s Performance Should Disqualify Him

Borderline personality, clinical narcissist, megalomaniac, sociopath—however you want to characterize Newt Gingrich, he clearly has difficulty distinguishing his own reality from that of other people.

    http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2012/01/21/republican-debate-why-newt-gingrich-s-performance-should-disqualify-him.html

  63. K.G. Says:

#44: Not to mention Newt’s children being thrown under the bus. Ironic that at the VERY same time Newt abandoned them, leaving their mother and them penniless, his 13-year-old daughter Jackie was working as the church janitor.

Jackie the Janitor forced to work to pay the light bill while Newt runs off with the mistress.

So Newt throws his wives under the bus, his children under the bus, Ronald Reagan under the bus, love, truth, honor, trust, goodness–all crushed by the Newt bus. The man is a one-man wrecking ball.

  64. RayinRI Says:

OK, so if 17% have already voted lets see if my math is correct:

    Estimated voters 2 Million
17% of that is 340K votes
    51% of 340K is 173,400
    33% of 340K is 112,200
That gives Mitt a lead of 61,200. Doesn’t seem like a big lead with 1.6 mill left to vote, but makes it a tough hill for Newt to climb especially with the bad week he is having.

  65. Frozone Says:

    #55 Wow.

I’ve met Romney (twice). In person he is a nice, gracious man. I can’t claim to know him well, so my endorsement doesn’t mean much.

On the other hand, those that have worked with Newt and do know him well are not endorsing him. On the contrary, they are scathing in their rebukes.

For those of you that do not know Newt personally, and must judge him from afar, don’t buy into the media and self proclaimed spin. Do you know what you are buying? There is no return policy on this one. Try to be objective here.

  66. Frozone Says:

    #63 Jinx ;)

  67. Frozone Says:

And now I’m over my 4 comment limit…

  68. John Galt Says:

The whole William Jefferson Gingrich thing is going to stick and in my opinion it is not a fair comparison. Clinton was a way better leader and executive than gingrich could ever be.

    a

  69. Conservative Gladiator Says:

Hannity crying about the negative (truthful) in Gingrich case attacks. Haha. Dude stop being a crybaby at the same time being the Gingrich press secretary. He’s becoming another douchebag.

  70. Nodaker Says:

Here is another article on the infamous government shut-down engineeered by Gingrich because he sat at the back of the plane:

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/cifamerica/2012/jan/25/newt-cry-baby-gingrich?newsfeed=true

    Lovely.

  71. Frozone Says:

#68. Agreed. Clinton was a brilliant politician.

  72. ccr Says:

Sarah Palin is a SHILL. Her facade is fully off.

While I was not a fan, I thought her voice reached a lot of people and that she loved America.

Her support of such a dishonest man as Gingrich, a man who has made millions off of influence peddling exposes Palin’s real character.

    I’m sad for her supporters.

  73. Massachusetts Conservative Says:

    NEW CNN FLORIDA POLL

    Mitt – 38%
    Noot – 29%

  74. Matthew Kilburn Says:

    “NEW CNN FLORIDA POLL

    Mitt – 38%
    Noot – 29%”

    Dates?

That about settles it though. Turns out ARG and WAA were right.

  75. Massachusetts Conservative Says:

    74

    Mon, Tues

On Sunday, Noot was leading Mitt. Then, he collapsed.

  76. Massachusetts Conservative Says:

Also, Mitt is leading Noot among hispanics 35 to 20.

  77. Matthew Kilburn Says:

CNN is reporting slightly different numbers MassCon, what gives?

According to the poll, 36% of people likely to vote in Tuesday’s Republican primary in the Sunshine State say they are backing Romney as the party’s nominee, with 34% supporting Gingrich.

  78. Msantiago Says:

Mitt Romney’s lack of campaign advertisements in Spanish has some in the Latino community wondering if his claims that he “believes” in the Latino population are true.
