Rubio Defends Mitt Against Gingrich

Newt Gingrich’s decision to attack Mitt Romney as being in the mold of Charlie Crist (while comparing himself to Marco Rubio) during his campaign stops in Florida today has raised the ire of a key figure in Florida politics: none other than Marco Rubio himself. Rubio had a little to say about Gingrich’s attacks:

Newt Gingrich’s decision today to bash Mitt Romney for hiring former Charlie Crist loyalists and employees doesn’t seem to be sitting well with Sen. Marco Rubio, who drove Crist out of the Republican Party before beating him at the polls in 2010.

Said Rubio: “Mitt Romney is no Charlie Crist. Romney is a conservative, and he was one of the first national Republican leaders to endorse me. He came to Florida, campaigned hard for me, and made a real difference in my race.”

Emphasis mine. Not a good idea to wake the sleeping Rubio dragon and make him come out against you, Team Gingrich. Given the fact that Rubio has committed to remaining neutral in the GOP primary race, this may be as close to an endorsement as our candidates might hope for.

Here’s hoping Rubio will pull a Christ and do a last minute endorsement. Though, this is practically as good as one!

  3. John2 Says:

All the talk now here in Florida is moving to Romney after the debate – a lot pf people didn’t realize Gingrich had views like that here in Florida.

    http://nationalpolls.com/articles/20120124001-ppp-weaskamerica-florida.html

It is really important to look at the dates a poll was conducted — especially in a race as fluid as Florida. WeAskAmerica has Romney doing quite well, in comparison to other polls that have him behind by either 5, 8, or 9.

They have the race: Romney 34, Gingrich 32, Santorum 9, Paul 8 and this was conducted yesterday before the debate.

They add that to have a result showing Romney ahead is a “surprise”. Though not as dramatic as I thought.

The poll by PPP that has Gingrich ahead by 5 was conducted over the past two days. But as we had reported earlier, Gingrich-Romney were in a dead heat for the first night of their poll.

Will the debate move the polls much? I have no clue to be honest. The way I perceived the debates have not been spot on. I thought Santorum looked desperate and foolish (overly sensitive vs Paul) in his last debate but others saw him as passionate, strong, and enthusiastic that led to an unreported five-point mini surge.

  4. CF Says:

WOW!!! Marco Rubio is the golden egg of endorsements and this is pretty darn close to one. I admire the guy for doing this in the face of all the rest of the turncoat “Conservatives” flip-flopping on their principles to kiss Rush Limbaugh’s ring.

  5. Common Cents Says:

Rubio needs to get outside his comfort zone and endorse Romney. Clearly, he feels Romney is the better candidate or he wouldn’t have gone out of his way like this to praise Romney.

This is not the time for political cowardice.

  6. John2 Says:

    5. I think he will after the debate for best effect.

  7. CF Says:

Poor Rubio, in one day he has gone from the truest of bluest Conservative Tea Partiers in the land to an establishment RINO.

Welcome to the club of the new Conservative movement Marco! Glad to have you onboard!! We reject the corrupt media of any form and bow only to the American people.

  8. Craig for Newt Gingrich and Marco Rubio Says:

    ROTFLMAO

Rubio will NEVER EVER EVER EVER endorse Willard OVER Newt.

    Ever :)

  9. Matthew Kilburn Says:

“Rubio will NEVER EVER EVER EVER endorse Willard OVER Newt. Ever”

Perhaps not…but he clearly doesn’t have any problems telling Gingrich to shut his mouth when he lies.

  10. davidg Says:

dang, i wish to heck rubio and Jeb would quit playing it safe and realize what a train wreck newt is. endorse Mitt! if it doesnt work out no ones gonna elect newt in the general and no one is going to care 4 years from now when its your time to run anyways.

  11. CF Says:

LOL! How does it feel to have a guy in your name defend Mitt Romney! You think after calling him a real Conservative he would endorse Noot Gettingrich.

  12. NoMoreModerates Says:

MSNBC showed more results from the WashPo poll. Romney’s unfavorability among whites earning $50k or less has gone from 29% to 49%. Romney is also losing independents to Obama by a margin of nearly 30%, 51-23%.

The gaffes and stumbles Romney made in NH and SC seem to have reached the national electorate. It is also unlikely the release of the tax returns will squelch that issue. Romney would be wise not to call inquiries into tax fairness as “the politics of envy” even if he believes it.

    8.

You don’t even get when you are being punked, do you?

Romney and Rubio are very close and they each have former members of each others staff. Rubio is a lot closer to Romney than he ever will be to a serial adulterer like Newt who is all about himself.

  15. no newt Says:

another “ever” would make the argument even more cogent and persuasive

  16. CF Says:

Poor Noot. He just can’t get the upper hand in attacking Romney over anything. Attacking Mitt on RomneyCare is soooooo easy to defend since Noot wrote the book on it. Attacking Mitt on capitalism is soooooo easy to defend since it only makes Romney look more Conservative.

  17. Craig for Newt Gingrich and Marco Rubio Says:

This was more a shot from Marco at his enemy, good time Charlie “The Lib” Christie.

Btw, Willard the Lib was BEGGING for Charlie’s endorsement last time. Begging! And thought he had it.

  18. Boomer Says:

    17.

    >>Btw, Willard the Lib was BEGGING for Charlie’s endorsement last time. Begging! And thought he had it.

So was every candidate in the race.

  19. CF Says:

Charlie Christie??? Never heard of him. Get off the computer and get in bed, your mommy’s calling.

  20. Greg Says:

you have no idea what is in the works

  21. Matthew Kilburn Says:

“Btw, Willard the Lib was BEGGING for Charlie’s endorsement last time. Begging! And thought he had it.”

…and McCain ended up getting it, it gave him a boost, and he won the primary – pushing him to the nomination.

    Coincidence?

  22. Watchinitall Says:

    15. LOL!

  23. Craig for Newt Gingrich and Marco Rubio Says:

There are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more Rubio staff including his CAMPAIGN MGR in the Newt camp than around the Willard camp.

    Period. End of story.

  24. Watchinitall Says:

Nobody’s begging for the Tea Party governor’s endorsement. Nobody.

  25. Craig for Newt Gingrich and Marco Rubio Says:

…becuase when the campaign manager comes out for you, you KNOW he’ll bring loads of supporters to your side.

  27. Greg Says:

  35. CF Says:

    33

Oh and don’t forget Newt’s campaign is being kept alive by Las Vegas Gambling money.

  36. Boomer Says:

Ha. Newt can’t tell the truth about anything. Carl Cameron just did an interview with Gingrich where Gingrich claimed he had 3000 people at a rally today.

After the cut away Cameron said the real number was less than 1000.

    He lies about everything.

  37. Massachusetts Conservative Says:

Oh, God I hope Rubio comes out and endorses Romney. That would alter the race dramatically within seconds.

  38. A.J. Nolte Says:

I’m not expecting a Rubio endorsement here, but it is interesting that, the first time Newt compares himself to a historical figure who is, ya know, still alive, the figure in question instantly disavows it. I wonder what Lincoln, Washington, Churchill, Paricles, and every other dead leader to whom Newt has compared himself would respond? I think Nixon works a lot better myself, but I’m probably a “terrible historian” according to His Newtness.

  39. CF Says:

    33

After the event, Rodney-Browne said that the marital infidelities of Gingrich, like all sinners, could be left in the past.

‘We’ve got to hold people accountable. But if they say they’ve asked for forgiveness then we have to go with what the word of God said — we have to forgive.’

He expressed grave reservations, however, about Mitt Romney’s Mormon faith.

‘Mormonism is a cult and that’s the problem,’ he said.

‘Mormonism, if you study the whole history of it, and I’m not trying to create a problem, but they had death squads that would go around kill everybody that wasn’t a Mormon.’

    http://www.buzzfeed.com/mckaycoppins/pastor-introducing-gingrich-invokes-mormon-death

  40. Common Cents Says:

I do think an eventual Rubio endorsement will come for Mitt, but I think he wants to make sure Romney is competitive. If Newt is leading by 8 points at the end of the week, he’s not going to. If it’s nearly tied, he probably will. I don’t think he would make a statement like this unless he was heavily leaning towards an endorsement, he would just say something like “Both men are fine conservatives” if he was truly neutral. There’s also quite a bit of Rubio staff and key people with Romney’s campaign.

Jeb is staying out because he wants to be able to jump in if Newt wins Florida, that endorsement was supposedly in the bag.
    He’s a snake.

Rubio is also not going to want a VP slot on a hopeless Newt ticket that gets crushed, any sane Republican that actually knows how to get elected in a purple state knows it will be an electoral wipeout. That’s why the Republican “establishment” is so nervous, it’s not ideological. If Newt wins the nomination, the “all stars” won’t go anywhere near the VP slot.

  41. Matthew Kilburn Says:

    #33 -

Typical, look past Gingrich’s rinse-and-repeat style of personal misdeeds, but hold Romney accountable for what people who happened to share his religion did a century and a half ago. Nice.

  42. Boomer Says:

    40.

    >>Jeb is staying out because he wants to be able to jump in if Newt wins Florida, that endorsement was supposedly in the bag.

It’s astonishing to me that anyone thinks what America is crying out for right now is another President Bush. It doesn’t matter how competent Jeb is, Team Obama would relish running against another Bush.

  43. opey Says:

    #33

Did the pastor forget Newt was Catholic? Did this pastor ever study the “whole” history of the Catholic church? LOL.

  44. Conservative Gladiator Says:

Keep fighting team Romney, the lines are drawing up nicely. Hold your ground! Speak up! It won’t be too long before we move forward. The Gingrich conservatives will be defeated under the weight of hypocrisy, political propaganda, maneuvering, and lies! Don’t stop pressing forward! There is a strong headwind from many forces but we can get through with the truth of conservatism against the stench of Washington DC insiders, career politicians and their followers! They’re trying to keep Washington DC the same as it’s always been. The same when Gingrich was there! The same when Santorum was there! We need an outside man to turn things around! One who is successful because he battled for success on his own terms and not because of the government helped him! We need an outside man with true action in his core and humility! A leader from the private free world! Fight on! The DNC, Gingrich conservatives, Gingrich talk radio conservatives, Gingrich tea party conservatives, the anti-success Gingrich populists, and Gingrich evangelicals. We need a true American conservative business man in the White House! That man is MITT ROMNEY!!!

  45. Strange But True Says:

If Newt does win the nomination, none of the “rising stars” of the GOP will want to board that sinking ship. I think the best Newt could hope for as VP would be someone like a Rick Perry.

  46. Liz Says:

…and Nancy pelosi says she knows a little SOMETHING that will keep Gingrich from ever being president. Maybe that little couch tryst was more than we were lead to believe…

  47. Petunia Says:

    Mitt Romney is a conservative.

    Newt Gingrich is not.

There is no such thing as a Gingrich conservative. No real conservative would support Newt Gingrich.

    Conservatism is:
    Family values
    Capitalism and a
    Strong Miltary

Newt Gingrich is a communist adulterer. He is less of a conservative than Obama.

  48. Angry Conservative Says:

Discuss Rick Santorum. This is getting old. Back and forth crap.

  49. Conservative Gladiator Says:

45 – It will be Rick Perry. He would be the only one dumb enough to take it. Who else is there? Rush Limbaugh? Hannity? Oh, maybe Fred Thompson. Newt is coalescing the evangelicals for sure. Santorum has no evangelical support. The meeting in Texas was for show – cover. Most of Newt’s support is the ABR crowd and most of that crowd are the SOCON’s who don’t want Romney for “whatever” reason they didn’t like him in ’08.

  50. Petunia Says:

Isn’t it funny how nobody can ever attack Romney for anything? They always find some one close to him they can attack. But Romney himself is completely clean.

    Must drive them nuts!

  51. Conservative Gladiator Says:

49 – Maybe Palin will get a second stint at VP with Gingrich. After all, she’s a Gingrich conservative too.

  52. Thunder (Romney the next presiden of the US) Says:

    #33

That’s funny because history shows it was the opposite… Mormon’s were driven out of Illinois in the middle of winter and traveled to Utah to get away from the Murderous Evangelicals who killed in the name of Religious purity.

CNN said he had 2500 at the rally.

Why do I not hear plans/strategy for Romney to attract working class voters? Trying to tear down Gingrich is not going to save Romney’s campaign.

  54. Conservative Gladiator Says:

48 – Newt sucked the air out of Rick Santorum. Rick is too much of a wimp to go after Gingrich. Gingrich is the big dog DC insider and Santorum is the wimpy DC insider chihuahua compared to him.

  55. Craig for Newt Gingrich and Marco Rubio Says:

So is Mitch Daniels auditioning tonight for Willard’s spot in the race for 2012?

Media sources are all saying yes.

    Newt says bring it on!

  56. Jonathan Says:

Bad idea for the Gingrich folks to use former Governor Crist to attack Romney. Crist and Rubio hate each other and have since Rubio was Speaker of the Florida House and Crist was Governor. Trying to tie Crist to Romney would inevitably draw Rubio out.

  57. Petunia Says:

If Newt wins there is no Republican Party. It defies all the principles the Party once stood for.

I guess those of us who are conservatives for real will have to be Independents.

I know I will never trust anyone calling themselves Republican or Tea Party after this. They have pretty much proven to be complete hypocrites and liars.

It feels good not to have the baggage of the dirty fithly Republican Party doing this stuff in my name.

  58. Andrew Says:

New polls show a collapse in support for Mitt Romney

New polling data shows a remarkable erosion of support for Mitt Romney in just a matter of days, both among Republican voters he’s appealing to now and the all-important independents he’d need in a general election.

Gallup’s daily tracking poll Tuesday puts Newt Gingrich back on top the field of presidential hopefuls among Republicans nationally, having erased what had been a 24-point Romney lead in only nine days…

Meanwhile a new Washington Post-ABC News poll shows Romney has a 51% unfavorable rating among independent voters, the highest number they’ve recorded in six years for the former Massachusetts governor. Only 23% view him favorably.

Even among Republicans, Romney’s unfavorable rating has jumped 14 percentage points in just two weeks.

  59. Conservative Gladiator Says:

53 – Ignoring Gingrich’ conservative deficiencies aren’t going to keep him up for very long either. That’s it, get working class voters to hate successful. I guess Obama’s game works well for Gingrich conservatives.

  60. Liz Says:

No doubt Gingrich has a penchant for exaggeration. Making up history, inflating numbers….I suspect he is more of a theater guy, than an economic technician that can fix the country.

  61. K.G. Says:

#53: Mitt has spent the whole campaign talking about “middle income” America. I guess they aren’t listening.

#54: Actually Santorum tried really, really hard to courageously pull back the curtain and reveal Newt in some of the debates. People just aren’t listening.

People are only listening to nasty, nutty Newt.

Except I’m pretty sure Gingrich did have multiple affairs, while I’m pretty doubtful about the roving Mormon hit squads. Almost sure that would have come up in my history of awesome class.

  63. K.G. Says:

I don’t understand what’s so hard to understand here. Mitt: I was extremely successful in the private sector and I have what it takes to be a successful POTUS.

Newt: I’ve risen and imploded in public office and I will rise and implode as POTUS.

Like Mitt keeps saying: “I have a record.” So does Newt. Let’s study them both.

  64. Sean Says:

National polls generally follow who has the momentum at the time. If Romney wins Florida i’m sure his numbers will go back up.

  65. Conservative Gladiator Says:

The closest thing there ever was to a “Mormon hit squad” was Orrin Porter Rockwell, the man they called the Destroying Angel.

And he was only (falsely) accused of attempting to assassinate the Missouri governor. It wasn’t him, because when Porter Rockwell shoots at you, you get shot. End of story.

  67. Boomer Says:

    53.

    >>CNN said he had 2500 at the rally.

Given the Cameron was there and he is one of the most straightforward political reporters and FOX has been incredibly in the tank for Newt the entire election, I tend to take his word for it.

    >>Why do I not hear plans/strategy for Romney to attract working class voters? Trying to tear down Gingrich is not going to save Romney’s campaign.

Because you’re not listening. Romney’s whole campaign, particularly his tax plan, is targeted at the middle class. In fact, this is yet another thing the True Conservatives have been hitting him on, not lowering the tax rates for millionaires.

  68. Andrew Says:

    63

    Maybe Mitt’s one-dimensional rhetoric isn’t working?

Is it possible that people are looking for more this election that “I was extremely successful in the private sector”? SC exit polls showed it’s an argument that appeals effectively to Mitt’s own demographic (socially moderate >200k earners) but few others.

And let’s be honest, Romney’s endless bragging about how well he did in the private sector is a way of taking the attention away from his less-than-conservative record on other issues.

The Gingrich campaign is very disorganized in Florida. Here’s proof; they called my home twice in an hour asking who I was going to vote for. If they can’t figure out who they’ve called less than 60 minutes ago, how do they plan on out-organizing Romney, much less President Obama?

  76. K.G. Says:

Do you not see him touting his running the government as speaker failing to mention he got canned for his ethical deficiencies? You don’t know what you’re talking about. Talk about Gingrich and his greatness if you’re trying to sell something. Enough with your fake indignation over Romney’s successes. Envy is a bad thing.

If Mormons don’t want to vote Republican that’s fine, it’s a free country. If Christians don’t want to vote for a Muslim, Atheist or Mormon candidate that’s also fine, it’s a free country.

I’ll vote for an atheist, Mormon or Muslim if they’re otherwise qualified. I’m not electing a priest or pastor, I’m just electing a President.

It’s not as if electing an atheist, Muslim or Mormon as President validates their doctrines. Each religion will still be heretical (from the Christian POV) despite who the President is.

  81. NoMoreModerates Says:

I have heard Romney on the stump many times and I never get the impression he is speaking to middle income voters. Frankly, a good part of his stump speech before Florida (in case he retuned it after losing SC) was attacking a straw man. And then he goes into his spiel about favoring capitalism and loving America.

One of the articles talking about Romney’s housing roundtable made the point that during his discussion with voters dealing with foreclosure Romney did not offer any policy.

I am just trying to understand the collapse of his ratings among the working class and I think it is because they do not hear him addressing their concerns.

  82. Craig for Newt Gingrich and Marco Rubio Says:

    75. Are you on crack or something? I never listen to Pelosi or her advice.

You shouldn’t either unless you’re a flaming lib.

  83. Conservative Gladiator Says:

80 – Thanks for your two cents. We’ll see when that day comes when an Atheist or Muslim or Agnostic runs for president how our Republicans react. I’m talking about now with a Mormon. I’m sorry but we’re talking about a man who’s as qualified as anyone has ever been from the private sector to be POTUS and for many in the Republican party his religion is such a flaw that it renders him unelectable. Comparing apples to apples Mitt Romney’s conservatism is far more superior to Gingrich yet conservatives are willing to overlook all of Gingrich’ warts because he’s conservative? The logic is mind boggling on its face yet easy to understand once you peel back what’s underneath the surface of the Republican party.

  84. Craig for Newt Gingrich and Marco Rubio Says:

    77. They’re teasing you like we do. :)

  85. econ grad stud Says:

#83 If Romney was otherwise a good candidate I’d vote for him. I don’t expect to elect members of my own religion to the Presidency. We’ve elected non-Christians before and the Republic was fine. What matters is leadership and policy.

My problem with Romney is that he can’t persuade Republican voters to follow him. That’s a major flaw in a leader.

#81: If Mitt’s not connecting with the “middle class” it’s more social cues than what he saying. And I won’t argue that he would be doing better if he could do better in this realm. But what can a POTUS actually DO except help clear the decks for a good business climate?

If people in the middle class want a handout then need to vote Dem. Except, wait. We’ve been trying that for decades; that’s why we’re in the mess we’re in.

The real key for the middle class is jobs and that’s pretty much all Mitt talks about. I know it’s not enough; they want something now. For them. But nobody can do that. We all have to grow up someday.

Obama’s promises were false; Newt’s promises are false. Good grief! Newt wants zero cap gains taxes. That means Mitt and Warren Buffet would pay ZERO taxes!!!!!!! Is that going to sound right to the middle class? Is that how we save America? Mitt and Warren paying NO taxes.

Mitt’s laid out his plans in writing: They are “clear, consistent and realistic.” They are for starters. As things move along and if we were to have a conservative House and Senate, he would fight for and sign laws that moved the country more to the right.

Mitt’s problem is the inability to explain things well to ordinary people. And the conservative talking heads are giving him NO help. Quite to the contrary. They are fighting him tooth and nail while supporting lame ABRs that cannot nor should not be POTUS.

  89. Sojourner Truth Says:

    Erick Erickson gets it right.

I am a firm believer that primaries make stronger candidates. But at some point you just have to stand back, take a sip of bourbon, and sigh “Damn” under your breath as you behold the carnage being wrought within the Republican Party.

The fight has gotten so bitter and acrimonious with only three states chosen because neither side thinks the other side can win. Gingrich supporters understand that the secularists in the media — not the Democrats, but the media to the extent it can be separated from the Obama Machine — will spend six months creeping out independent suburban voters about Mormons, holy underwear, Kolob, postmortem baptism, and views on black people and then, as the coup de grace, Barack Obama will fire up millions of dollars of ads on Bain Capital raiding pension funds forcing the government to cover the debt so Mitt Romney could make millions whether he won or lost a deal.

Romney supporters understand Newt Gingrich will open his mouth.

Mitt Romney will find it very hard to beat Barack Obama because of what Barack Obama will do to him. Newt Gingrich will find it very hard to beat Barack Obama because of what Newt Gingrich will do to himself. That’s the simple truth. Both men will have amazingly difficult times beating Barack Obama.

About the only real difference between the Gingrich and Romney camps is that the Gingrich camp intuitively understands this and is happy to go down with a fighter. The Romney camp is still deluded into thinking a milquetoast moderate from Massachusetts who can’t win Iowa twice in a primary is somehow electable.

  90. econ grad stud Says:

I think there’s not exactly been a shining knight in this primary.

There’s been a flawed candidate with every type of advantage (Romney) and a lot of has-been’s (Gingrich, Santorum) and never-were’s (Bachmann, Cain).

In the presence of an adequate candidate none of these folks would have been above the second tier.

85 – You are a bigger man than many. You want a persuader in chief. If a man’s success doesn’t persuade you yourself to go out and be successful, no one can help you man. I think many in the this party have been spoiled by rhetoric and career politicians. They are growing envious of other successful people. Many are looking for an Obama of the Republican party. The sad thing is many in the GOP are going to the dirty well water to get theirs. No one in a general is gonna want to drink what Newt Gingrich has. Gingrich conservatives – what a joke.

  93. Ozzy Says:

    Craig for Newt,

You keep calling Mitt Romney a liberal. Yet, Marco Rubio whom you claim to support has called Mitt a conservative and come to the defense of Romney against Newt. Doesn’t that put a big hole in your Mitt is a lib theory?

My problem with Romney is that he can’t persuade Republican voters to follow him. That’s a major flaw in a leader.

He has been able to persuade more republican legislators than all the other candidates combined. Certainly that would count for something, being president and all.

  95. K.G. Says:

    #85: stud

My problem with Romney is that he can’t persuade Republican voters to follow him. That’s a major flaw in a leader.

Fine and dandy. So who is your candidate that everyone is dying to follow? And I hope you don’t say Gingrich as he would be the worst kind of POTUS and people will be figuring that out soon. And I hope you don’t say, Paul, because not enough people are following him. And I hope you don’t say Santorum, because NO ONE is following him. And I hope you don’t say Obama because up until the last few days, more people have said they would follow Mitt than Obama. Actually until Newt’s latest rise, more people have followed Mitt than have consistently followed anybody. And even today, Mitt ties Obama and Newt loses by ten points.

  96. Craig for Newt Gingrich and Marco Rubio Says:

    BINGO

  97. NoMoreModerates Says:

“If people in the middle class want a handout then need to vote Dem.”

You have put your finger on Mitt’s problem because that is exactly what voters are hearing from him. The problem is they are not looking for a handout. They feel that they got screwed and want someone to do something about it. Yes, a job would help, but there are millions of people who have jobs but are upside down in their mortgages or are facing ballooning payments.

There is a bigger problem, however, and it is perception. For someone like Romney to tell middle class voters “you are not getting a handout” is both insulting and infuriating because a guy like Romney, of course, doesn’t need help and can’t understand their plight.

  98. Firecracker (Romney/Christie) Says:

So Erick Erickson only confirms what we thought of him. He’s a religious bigot.

  99. Sojourner Truth Says:

Rabble-rousing demogogues are not necessarily a good thing. Here’s a news flash. Right now in America, nobody’s going to follow anybody much. We are too factured, too ignorant, too demanding and too delusional.

You just have to do the best you can with what you have. Grow up time.

  101. Boomer Says:

  106. Ozzy Says:

    104,

You keep accusing Mitt of being a RINO and a liberal. Yet, Newt is the biggest RINO and liberal in the GOP. When are you all gonna wake up to that? If you really are the so-called true Anti-Romney conservative you claim to be, you would be supporting Santorum not Gingrich.

  107. Riccardo Says:

Liberal governor’s don’t balance their budgets. Liberal governors don’t deny all requests for pardons. Liberal governors don’t seek federal authority to enforce immigration law. Liberal governors don’t veto or line item 800 pieces of liberal legislative crap. Mitt Romney was a very conservative governor in the second most liberal culture and society in our nation!

Gingrich engages in leftist Geographic Identity Politics when he calls MItt a “Massachusetts Moderate”. That leftist strategy, and it stinks. I wish Mitt would seize this the next time and point out every conservative action he took and there are plenty of them!

  108. Riccardo Says:

  109. NoMoreModerates Says:

“Liberal governor’s don’t balance their budgets.”

Really? Many if not most states require balanced budgets.

Like Newt says, “Romney calling himself conservative is a SNL skit.”

  110. K.G. Says:

    #97:

a guy like Romney, of course, doesn’t need help and can’t understand their plight.

You just put your finger on the problem: A “guy like Romney” completely understands their plight. The problem is THEY don’t understand their plight. They don’t understand what went wrong and they don’t understand what it takes to fix it.

They don’t have the patience to go back and understand the history of the crash, the seeds of which have been sown for a long time. Ask them: What do you know about the evil notions of FDR and his Second Bill of Rights, that everyone has a right to a house, a job, healthcare, a higher education, etc. The whole premise is built on a lie.

What do they know about the Community Reinvestment Act, Sarbanes-Oxley, the role ACORN and Barack Obama played in the NINJA loans, how the bad loans with no collateral were bundled and sold by Wall St. investment houses and no one cared because Barney Frank, Maxine Waters, the Black Congressional Caucus and yes, Newt Gingrich made certain that Bush and federal regulators could not get into F&F and audit them therfore the federal government was backing up the bad debt bundles with taxpayer money.

And oh yeah, Bernacke keeps the interest rates low so we can purchase with cheap debt to keep the consumer economy going because once we stop buying stuff, more jobs will be lost.

Here’s a big fat news flash to people who are hurting, who have no job or their homes are under water. This thing is NOT coming back anytime soon. Obama has done EXACTLY the wrong things to turn it around and now he’s going to give a speech, wallpapering over all the problems.

Can Mitt turn things around? He believes he can; that’s why he’s running. Can he do it? I.Don’t.Know. But IMO he has the best shot at it precisely because he does understand the plight of the nation. It’s just that most people don’t.

But there are no quick fixes; there are no bandaids for your boo-boos. It’s grow up time; time to face facts and quit looking for some politician’s magic wand.

Allen West says Newt best suited to communicate conservatism to the black community

Allen West, in discussing what the Republican Party needs to do to get black voters into the Republican party, was asked which presidential candidate has the conservative principles to help turn the tide of high unemployment in the black community, and he was quick to point out that despite those on the left accusing Newt of race-baiting, he believes that Newt is the one who is diagnosing the problem well and is trying to open a dialogue with the black community by offering to speak before the NAACP.

    Sojourner Truth

Erickson is a moron, plain and simple.

He’s been egging on a nasty primary fight because he so hates Romney (despite endorsing him in 2008 for President)
He knows Newt can’t win, if you look back, he admits as much saying his wife wouldn’t even allow him to put Gingrich’s book out on display because of what he’s done to his wives over the years.

  117. NoMoreModerates Says:

#110 – Wow, what a rant. If that is what you got from following Romney then I have even less interest in him.

And frankly, if he really wants to help America he would invest his money in the US instead of stashing it in foreign countries. For a guy who says he hates europe he sure loves their banks.

  118. Ozzy Says:

    114,

You’ve made my case. You don’t care about true conservatism, or helping this nation or beating Obama. All you care about is some insatiable hatred towards Romney. That’s all you see, that’s all you know. Even Huckabee(of whom I am a true follower and you are not) has made peace with Romney and considers him a quality candidate to be POTUS.

  119. Craig for Newt Gingrich and Marco Rubio Says:

    Barbour

That time is near at last :)

Well, it seems the lying scum from hell are rushing to circle the wagons around Grinrich.

I’m sorry, but any real informed SoCon, any real informed Christian, who doesn’t like Romney for legitimate reasons would be going for Santorum.

This getting behind Grinrich completely discounts any, and I mean any, credibility the Far Right has left.

If they make Gingrich the nominee, they will be the laughing stock of the Left and Middle for generations to come.

The GOP will be known as the HYPOCRIT PARTY…

    Thanks, Jeremy.. I love it!

Go Newt! Thurday will be epic!

  127. sadie Says:

If Newt likes attacking the media, why does he spend most of his type campaigning on it. It seems like every station has his face on it interviewing him. Free advertising for him. What is he complaining about them for.

  128. Kermit Says:

#117 – you are either foolish or ignorant, or both. KG pretty much nails it in post #110. Really? It’s a bad thing making money in the private sector??? As opposed to Newt who sucks from the government cow??? Wow. Now THAT’S a man who can turn things around! The only person who can POSSIBLY fix this government mess is Romney. Not the bloviating blowhard Noot.

  129. okc mom for mitt Says:

#127-I think Fox may be regretting giving Newt all that free time campaigning on Fox. Gretchen Carlson is starting to look like she has been sucking on a lemon every time she has to speak to him. This morning they had a “debate” between Dick Armey and two other political analysts about the GOP race. Both analysts said that the ONLY general election Newt could win would be if he were running for Pres of Area 51. Instead of a debate, Dick Armey seemed to agree. And I don’t think that it is any coicidence that when Newt rises in the polls for the GOP nomination, so does Obama. Hopefully the voters in FL will be a lot smarter than the voters in SC, and choose the ONLY competant, serious, conservative candidate who can win. GO MITT!
