New Romney Web Ad: “Huckabee”

Here’s Gov. Mike Huckabee’s statement on the ad:

The use of the actual audio from my show, The Huckabee Report, was not authorized for use by any candidate. My quotes are public domain and just like the numerous complimentary things I have said about other candidates they have been used to highlight something positive in a political ad. However, this in no way is an endorsement of any candidate. I have not nor do I anticipate endorsing anyone until after the primary at which time I will fervently campaign for the Republican nominee so that we can make sure Obama is a one term President. Any attempt by anyone to imply an endorsement of a candidate or opposition to a candidate is not true.

Earlier today i suggested that the eventual nominee could lock up my vote by making Rand Paul the vp……but if Romney were to pick huckabee, i’d work very hard for him. I was very dissapointed that huck decided not to run. But as a vp….i would love that. It’s a winning ticket too.

  2. Machtyn Says:

I’m glad Mike Huckabee recognizes the public domain of his speech. This is just like using a newspaper’s article (written by a person) to tout your qualifications.
    1. Does this directly imply that Huckabee endorses Romney? No.
    2. Might this influence the person who is not very good at critical thinking? Sure, in the same way an actual endorsement or quotes from an article may influence that person.
    3. Should this get the critical thinker to ponder the topic and message to make their own decision? Absolutely.

To me, it seems a soft spoken ad. Which is probably a much needed break from the yelling that is likely going on in SC.

Really the only thing i disagree with huck on to a point at which i would work to change his mind…is foreign policy. Otherwise, huck’s campaign promises from 08, combined with his work and statements since then….show to me that he is a real conservative, with real sollutions.

  4. Micah Says:

Newt looks like he just ran from his couch to the fidge in the video. Sweaty.

  5. Ozzy Says:

    3,

Huck’s for a strong national defense. A strong military. What’s wrong with his foreign policy?

  6. wateredseeds Says:

    5,

I’m for a strong military, and strong national defense. The keyword being defense…not nation building….which is what we’ve been doing for the last 10 years. I’m tired of it. We could bring a lot of troops home to their families…and that would instantly inject their paychecks into the economy. I think we should close down at least half of our overseas bases(i’m not as extreme as ron paul on that). The only places we should have bases overseas, are where the PEOPLE of those countries WANT us there….AND we need to be there for strategic purposes. Not for offensive purposes, or for the sake of building up nations and taking out leaders. We unjustly went into iraq. I’m also a fan of the golden rule of militarism just like Ron Paul. People can say what they want about going into pakistan to get bin laden. I agree we should have gone in to get him…but the way we did it was an act of war. If any other country did that on our soil…regardless of who they were taking out…if they did it without our permission or knowledge…..we would consider it an act of war as well. Our foreign policy is going to kill us…and is stripping away our freedoms.

  7. wateredseeds Says:

And just so we’re clear…if i was president when the decision was made to take out bin laden in pakistan….i would have placed an electronic net over where he was….set up a plan of attack…then 1 minute before sending in the troops….i would call the president of pakistan and say “we’re getting bin laden, he’s on your soil…we mean you and your citizens no harm, but we are going to take him out, take that as you will…i apologize for violating your right as a sovereign nation, but we are going to get him”…and then i would hang up and give the order(without telling the president of pakistan where bin laden was). Then, at least they would have had knowledge….and i could say “i talked to the president on the phone before i gave the order…it was the right thing to do….and we were going to do it regardless….but i wanted them to know that we were not an aggressor towards the pakistani people”. I believe that would have been better. We could’ve started another war over this garbage. And i think the foreign aid stuff is a joke. We need to end foreign aid…period. Instead of giving away money, we could loan it out like china does….and occassionally forgive the loans…but to just give american tax dollars to other countries…including countries that are hostile towards us and our allies, is just stupidity.

  8. Jrcutler Says:

    Huckabee for vp, why not

  9. SixMom Says:

Loved this ad. Such a simple point. So obvious except to intellectuals like Gingrich.

  10. Matthew E. Miller Says:

    wateredseeds,

Then Pakistan ought to declare war on us, no? Why aren’t they, the cowards? Ron Paul’s golden sounds credible until you realize A.) We took out Bin Laden KNOWING that it was a potential provocation to the Pakistani’s and being willing to accept the consequences of it and B.) Isolationists never understand, for all their talk about “seeing things from another point of view”, that few “warmongers” deny that if we behaved as some of these countries behaved we would deserve to have our sovereignty violated as well. That’s right, if we were harboring a mass murdering terrorist who was the number 1 target of one of our allies, and that ally came in to take out the terrorist- even without our permission- they would be acting reasonably and I’d say “bully for you”. And then I’d probably go hide in a cave somewhere and become a freedom fighting dissident because it’d be clear that my country had been taken over by lunatics and rogues. Because that’d be the only explanation for such egregious behavior.

  11. aspire Says:

Nice ad. I have to say though that it was mature of Huckabee to not complain, especially since his quote was almost the whole audio of the ad.

  12. rightgal Says:

    1. Rand paul has zero experience.

  13. Texas Conservative Says:

Anyone here think that Romney should pull down this web ad? Given that Huckabee came out with statement that he did not authorize use of his voice and radio show segment to be used?

  14. aspire Says:

13 No. Should we pull down anti-Obama ads that use video of him if Obama doesn’t endorse that candidate and authorize use of his voice?

  15. Dave Says:

Huckabee’s permission would have been granted in advance….not after the fact. Huck gets the best of all possible worlds. He gets to endorse without endorsing, along with a massive gesture of respect from the man who will be nominee.

  16. wateredseeds Says:

    10,

What if we didn’t see that person as being a terrorist? What if we felt they were in the right to do something that another country felt wronged by? Yes, we had to get bin laden. Ron Paul wasn’t even arguing that. He was simply saying that we violated their right as a sovereign nation….and that if we really felt that they wouldn’t help us get him, then they probably aren’t really our ally are they? That’s how i feel. We are too cozy with these countries that take our money, and then they do what they want anyways. Let’s end foreign aid. We can be rational about how valuable a target is. Bin Laden was worth it…..but would the next guy be worth it? We blame them for wanting to kill us, and claim that it is because we are free. But that ignores not only logic, but the fact that they TELL us that it is because we interfere with their affairs. We helped iraq against iran…we held a cou in iran, we’ve propped up our endorsed leaders over there. We shouldn’t be doing that. If we want them to be free….we can’t keep trying to get our guys in power over there. We need to treat them fairly. Sadamm Hussein was one of our guys until he invaded Kuwait. That’s just idiotic.
