Fundraising Numbers Begin to Trickle In

Rumors and reports of the fourth quarter fundraising numbers are flying around, and that means it is time for the return of the Race42012 Fundraising Leaderboard!

Last week, a Gingrich campaign official told reporters that the Gingrich campaign would be reporting about $9 million raised in Q4 – a respectable if not overly impressive haul. Meanwhile, Ron Paul is saying his campaign raised $13 million, a number which will more than likely place him second only to Mitt Romney. And as for Romney, his campaign is only officially saying the 4Q was their best quarter yet for fundraising, meaning they raised over $18 million; however, insiders are saying the number will be north of $20 million.

The rumors for Perry are still that he raised around or less than $5 million. Rick Santorum has openly admitted that his 4Q numbers will be “embarrassing” when they are publicly released (way to get out in front of a story, I guess…). Since he has yet to break a million dollars raised in this race, I’m guessing that trend continued in the 4Q. Luckily for Santorum, that dry spell is coming to an end after his incredibly close second place in Iowa, but his cash on hand total cannot be good news for a man who is tasked with building a national organization overnight. And as for Jon Huntsman… who knows what his numbers will be. What is known is that Huntsman recently sent out a fundraising appeal to his supporters for $100,000 so he could continue running TV ads in New Hampshire… that’s never a good sign.

So with all that, here is the first rendition of the leaderboard based solely on rumors — no official numbers in here yet:

2011 Q4 Fundraising Leaderboard
Rank Candidate Raised For Primaries Other Revenue Cash on Hand Debt
1 Romney $20 million+
2 Paul $13 million
3 Gingrich $9 million
4 Perry $5 million
5 Huntsman ?
6 Santorum $1 million
7 Roemer ?

    Mitt on CNN NOW!!!

Nikki Haley and Mitt RALLY in SC

  2. Massachusetts Conservative Says:

Wow. How could Perry raise $5 million when he was going nowhere fast?

Guess people owed him tons of favors!

  3. jaxemer11 Says:

1 – Nice. Mitt already thinking about SC. Smart move. He needs to spend some time in NH too this week, but it makes sense to take advantage of the opportunity to campaign more in SC while everyone else is desperately trying to catch up in NH.

Going to NH will turn out to be a big mistake for Santorum.

  4. Thomas Alan Says:

Luckily for Santorum, that dry spell is coming to an end after his Iowa win

    Ahem…he lost Iowa.

  5. jaxemer11 Says:

Does Bachmann have to report? I am assuming she does.

  6. jaxemer11 Says:

4 – I count it as a win. I don’t think Santo’s fundraising is going to be as impressive as everyone seems to think though. I thought $1M the day after Iowa (the biggest day he will have by far) was pretty low for him.

  7. Willard Mittens Rombot Says:

Santorums fundraising will dry up fast. Should be able to call Jon’s dad to get his figure.

  8. Matt C Says:

    #4 — oops. Heh.

  9. Massachusetts Conservative Says:

Counting it as a win for Rick means it was a loss for Romney.

And that is not the case, one bit. Mitt not only won, he won when everyone wrote him off.

  10. Ben (One of those MittWitts) Says:

    2. Yes Masscon – but to go from $18M to $5 is a good sized fall off. But it makes sense why he felt like he should keep going – he’s got more $ to burn.

  11. jaxemer11 Says:

9 – They both win. Not a big deal.

  12. XorGate Says:

It seems obvious to me that Paul and Romney are the only ones with enough money and organization to mount a national campaign. It was obvious when they were the only ones to make it in Virginia and it’s even more obvious now.

  13. Joshua Says:

I can’t say Santorum won Iowa, but he did have an impressive showing. If, a week before the caucus, Santorum had been told that he would finish no worse than 3rd in Iowa and within 1 percentage point of the lead, he would have been jumping for joy. And he did even better than that.

  14. afk Says:

Nice move putting Roemer on the rumor-board so as to make Santorum not look like a total fundraising loser.

  15. Machtyn Says:

Meh. As a Romney supporter, I’ll call it a tie based on percentages. Romney absolutely won. But Santorum was a winner.

In any case, the word is if Romney runs the table in this primary (or very nearly runs the table), people will say he bought this election. That may be true… but he had a lot of donations to help him “buy” it.

  16. Chad Says:

    @5
Bachmann did not end her campaign, anything she raised in Q4 will be reported, and anything she raises until her campaign ends will also be reported.

  17. K.G. Says:

#9 They wrote him off–but when he won it was no big deal. And HE didn’t really win; Rum won by not losing by very much. auyghghghghg!!!

  18. K.G. Says:

Mitt with Haley and McCain in SC just now. Mack checking all the boxes for Mitt right now–and well he should.

Mack has surely aged, it seems to me. If he were president right now………. I dunno.

  19. K.G. Says:

Mack did make one allusion to Santorum….and their disagreements on the virtue of earmarks. Couldn’t pass that one up.

  20. Thomas Alan Says:

    18:

McCain’s body is giving out on him. His time as a POW already aged him horribly when he was a young man. Imagine him with 3 years as president under his belt. Honestly, there’s a decent chance he’d be dead by now if he’d won.

But, he could help Mitt with some veterans in S. Carolina.

  21. Conservative Gladiator Says:

18 – this is great for Romney cause he puts a tea party darling and an “establishment” repub side by side. It’s great optics and helps Romney to portray himself as the one coalescing everyone together. Great move and will be a plus moving forward regarding endorsements. See? There is a value in having endorsements.

  22. Ben (One of those MittWitts) Says:

    19. K.G.

He also kind of combatted Newt’s ad that is running using McCain’s words against Mitt in the last primary season – calling it spirited competition – but that he has a great deal of respect for Mitt and for the hard work he did and has done for the Republican party since dropping out.

  23. Boomer Says:

    22.

    >>He also kind of combatted Newt’s ad that is running using McCain’s words against Mitt in the last primary season – calling it spirited competition

I always get a kick out of this. I just heard Chris Matthews say that Santorum is lucky that he is peaking at time that didn’t give the press a chance to vet him or his opponents to hit him.

When opponents do it its hitting, negative going nuclear. When the press does it its just vetting.

  24. MPC Says:

I guess the only question that remains is will Goldman Sachs and the other goons of Ponzi finance stick with Romney for the general election or dump him for their old love Barry.

Rombots I’ve noticed you guys think Mitt is going to be the ultimate Manchurian candidate. He is going to take these millions from the big finance lobbies, put all these washed-up neocons into his foreign policy team, rack up all these Washington endorsements, and turn Ron Paul on them all as soon as he gets the key to the White House, using them only to do some sort of genious stealth political maneuvering only Romney can accomplish that somehow turns out for the good of the country.

I don’t know any Romney fan that thinks Romney is going to be a stooge for high finance, or invade Iran, or will spend all his time in reelection mode trying to schmooze key moneybags and voting constituencies too busy seeking power to do what’s right. People are pessimistic in America right now for a reason, the general public has lost a sense of responsibility beyond “what’s in it for me” and in order to turn anything around, the entire political system will have to be dominated by the sort of people that are least likely to seek corrupt public approval for their actions, and therefore will never get elected.

Rombots think therefore that Mitt is some Manchurian candidate that dons the most scarlet robes of corruption in order to infiltrate the political system and cleanse it with his radiant goodness which until then was hidden from view. Heck if I knew Mitt was going to do all that I’d write him a check tomorrow and become his number one fan. I’d troll internet boards up and down for him. And so would many more.

Rombots ultimately just want Romney to act like Ron Paul already does, but with a sparkly smile and good hair, and I believe are going to be so disappointed when he takes power and does just what his record indicates he will do. I know he has good impulses driving him but power can corrupt any of us. There’s never a politician that goes to Washington intending to betray his country. But there are a lot of politicians that go there seeking the everlasting approval and love of their countrymen. Kind of like the last guy. They’ll do anything to get it. And in a country where it’s all “me first”, it’s as simple as kicking the can down the road for our children to handle so you can keep bringing home the bacon to the adoring masses and campaign financiers.

  25. G Buttersnaps Says:

    oh noes..Romney narrowly ahead by a mere $7 million…

  26. jaxemer11 Says:

24 – Have you been drinking again?

  27. MPC Says:

    jax,

    I can’t, I’m Mormon ;)

  28. Freddy Ardanza Says:

I’d like to know what senators Toomy and Demint think about the rise of Santorum, is not like they are BFF.

  29. teledude Says:

    24. – very well stated.

  30. MPC Says:

Also fun to see Rombots wax poetic about John McCain

  31. Bobinator Says:

MPC, do you mean RomNOTS? Us Rombots do not see any potential of him being a manchurian candidate.

  32. Nostradamus Says:

    Show me the money.

    Give em hell Mitt!

  33. Freddy Ardanza Says:

The True Nuts may believe that SC will go for Ricky BlagoPerrych or Newton Stinkrich but i doubt it, I think Romney will win South Carolina. As for Ricko Santorum, The True Nuts are already in attack mode:

    http://www.redstate.com/erick/2012/01/04/this-wont-play-well-in-south-carolina/

  34. Massachusetts Conservative Says:

    24

    Bunch of crap.

If I believed Mitt would be more popular if he kicked the can down the road, I’d actually consider your point. However, there is much more to gain from fixing the problem than continuing it.

  35. jaxemer11 Says:

29 – You must speak another language. I don’t even have a clue what 24 is talking about.

  36. jaxemer11 Says:

Interesting analysis of Santorum’s voting record (finally a record we can actually look at):

    http://www.thepoliticalguide.com/Profiles/Senate/Pennsylvania/Rick_Santorum/VotingStatistics/

Santorum was a Republican’s Republican when in office. He voted with the party nearly all of the time. If the Tea Party was founded, at least in part, to protest Republican spending … Santorum is not your guy.

  37. Massachusetts Conservative Says:

    MPC,

Does America love Obama because he refuses to fix the problem?

  38. Boomer Says:

    27.

    >>I can’t, I’m Mormon

You should start. Might cure some of those Paulian delusions.

  39. XorGate Says:

    38. XD

I’m also a Mormon Paulite. The Book of Mormon is actually very big on personal liberty, and actually non-intervention as well. Whenever God’s people went into war without being attacked they were soundly defeated. It was only in defensive war that they prevailed.

  40. MPC Says:

Sorry jax if I was being incomprehensible. I’ll put it in a nice little talking-points bullet list, hitting all the necessary buzzwords to trigger the right connotations with my message next time, like a Romney proposal.

    MassCon,
The problem America has with Obama is that the road is rapidly running out, so he’s just kind of juggling the can nervously. Everyone’s kind of angry that we are here but no one wants to own up to their share of the blame. But since people inevitably need someone to blame, the guy up top takes a lot of that. Still, given rumors of that warchest he’s got ready to throw at Romney, he’s definitely doing something right (or very wrong, if you aren’t him). Obama has just prioritized who needs to get first dibs on the still-substantial cookie jar, for his survival.

  41. Gunlock Bill Says:

    39. But it also justifies defending the liberty of those that are unable to defend themselves. (Think anti-nephi-lehites.)

  42. Keith Price Says:

    1. MassCon,

Nikki Haley and Mitt RALLY in SC

    Any replay link of that?

  43. Massachusetts Conservative Says:

    40

Obama isn’t juggling the can at all. He’s decided that his job is more important than our jobs. Classic narcissist.

Americans don’t love Obama, and that’s precisely because he has not tried to solve the problem.

If a president wants to be loved, he will solve the problem. Especially if he wants to be loved long-term like Reagan and Kennedy.

Obama has not even attempted to solve the problem, because he either doesn’t believe there is a problem, or he doesn’t care.

  44. Keith Price Says:

    Intrade NH:

    Mitt at 94.9 !!
    Everyone Else: < 2 :)

  45. MPC Says:

    39. But it also justifies defending the liberty of those that are unable to defend themselves. (Think anti-nephi-lehites.)

Bill, how much are you going to put down to go to the funding of this world police force, to make everyone behave like Americans and adopt our culture and economic systems?

  46. Henry Hubitt Says:

Meanwhile Obama’s warchest is approaching the billion mark.

  47. MPC Says:

Neoconservatism is really just the welfare state for foreigners.

America will keep you safe and snug at night.

The foreigners resent this, by the way.

  48. Henry Hubitt Says:

I’d be fine if Mitt Romney or whomever the enxt

  49. Dave Says:

Mitt can beat Obama, and he can cut the size of the state more than anyone. Bottom Line.

  50. Petunia Says:

It is getting silly reading how deeply in denial some people are.

If their were a better option than Romney… Romney would not be the only one who remains steady.

It is absolutely silly to watch the panic.

Romney is a good guy. He’s not perfect. But he is going to do a really good job at this. Romney suceeds. That is what he does.

And in this case for Romney to suceed, America must suceed.

Why does that scare so many people?

He is not the boogie man. He’s a good guy, with lots of experience and talent. He is prepared and ready to fix things. Relax.

  51. Petunia Says:

And how ridiculous to keep supporting the ultimate insiders like Gingrich and Santorum while at the same time saying you want an outsider!

Romney is the only outsider. He is the only one who has never been part of the Federal Government!

Newt is a failed Representive, who became the most highly paid lobbyiest in history… and Rick S. is a failed Senator, who has flailed around doing nothing of value since he lost so badly! He is trying to save his repretation. He knows nothing of any business but politics… that is why he is so very desparate.

    This is so silly!

  52. Dr J Says:

Romney, Santorum and Paul all won because they actually think they can be helpful. People can see through Perry and Gingrich, who are in it mainly for themselves.

Romney is doing what he has to do to get elected, and you may question his motives but one thing I like about him- he cannot be bought.
