Dare I say, Reagan “Morning In America” -esque?

  3. rightgal Says:

Can we all just have a collective cry of AWESOME?

  4. aerofanatic Says:

#1- in that video, skip to 18:13. An occupy moron looks, well, like a moron.

    Priceless.

  5. Massachusetts Conservative Says:

    It’s dawn in America.

  6. econ grad stud Says:

The Ad is ok but it pushes a bit too hard on the concept that optimism = support for Romney, especially in 20-23. The New Hampshire for Mitt images detracted from the rest of the ad.

Ideally you’d want to soft pedal that theme in this ironic and sarcastic era. You need to hint at those sorts of connections unless you’re a black Democrat. Then you can run as Messiah in Chief and the media gets a thrill up their leg.

  7. Matt "MWS" Says:

    Not bad.

Saying this election is about “saving the soul of America” made me cringe though. It’s self-aggrandizing, and off-putting to those who consciously don’t place their salvation in politics.

I would have given the ad an A- if they had just cut that line.

I thought it was good for people who agree, and acceptable for those who don’t view it with such importance. No one is going to get turned off by that kind of language.

Quick, name the last angry candidate to become President.

It never happens, particularly since Kennedy/Nixon kicked off the TV age of politics. Optimistic candidates always do well (Obama in ’08 with his hopey changedy stuff, Reagan with his Morning in America, etc. ) and candidates who are perceived as angry (bye Newt) don’t. One of the basic tenets of politics.

  10. SixMom Says:

Loved this one. Really love it.

MWS – The heart and soul of America is it’s self-identity. We have lost a sense of identity, of direction, etc. That’s the soul Mitt is referring to. And a lot of our identity as a nation comes straight from the top brass..the message they project, the ideals they put forth, their rallying cry, their emphasis.

I love that Mitt is all for America. His heart is really in that concept of what America was and what it still can be.

  11. Matt "MWS" Says:

    Mom,

I get that, it just struck me as too strong a word, and self-aggrandizing.

“Only Mitt can save the soul of America” is the implication.

He should have said something like “This election is about who we are as Americans…”

Matt, “soul of America” is not a religious term. He’s talking about what makes America America. Free enterprise, military strength, foreign leadership, pride in our country, economic abundance.

Where do you get “salvation in politics”??

  13. Keith Price Says:

Anyway, I loved the ad. And, I expect it will be fairly effective.

The pattern I’m noticing is this…

Attack, viciously, early on before his opponents gain any traction.

Then just pour on the positive, upbeat ads in the final days.

People forget the negative ads (though the not negative about the candidates) and just focus on the fresh positive message.

Interesting. And, I expect it will be very effective.

  14. Craig for Newt Gingrich/Marco Rubio Says:

    Matt,

    Redeem yourself :)

National Catholic Register Profiles Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney

    National Catholic Register | Dec 29, 2011,

    Newt…

“While serving in Congress, Gingrich attained a 98.6 favorable rating from the National Right to Life Committee. He has pledged to sign two pro-life executive orders his first day in office if elected to the presidency. One order would reauthorize President Ronald Reagan’s “Mexico City Policy,” which bars U.S. aid to non-government agencies or charities abroad that perform or promote abortion. The other would be the “conscience clause” to protect health professionals from performing “any action or procedure that he or she finds morally or ethically objectionable.”

    Willard…

“…his record on the life issues is full of zigzags. Angry members of Planned Parenthood — who had formerly regarded Romney as an ally — once threatened to show up at a pro-life gala honoring Romney wearing flip-flops to symbolize his switching sides. Romney, who attended a Planned Parenthood fundraiser in 1994, now calls for blocking federal funding of the organization.

The former governor was squarely in the pro-abortion camp for the early part of his political career. As recently as the 2002 Massachusetts gubernatorial race, Romney repeatedly defended what he then termed “a woman’s right to choose.” In a meeting with executives from NARAL Pro-Choice America, Romney reportedly hinted at national aspirations, adding, “You need somebody like me in Washington.”

  15. K.G. Says:

This is centered around Mitt’s original theme: Believe in America.

Mitt is not the messiah; he’s not saying: Believe in Mitt. Our salvation as a country is in the Founding Principles of America. Listen to Mitt’s speech in Ames from yesterday. It’s all about the Constitution, the Declaration and First Principles.

First of all, this authentically Mitt. Second, it’s perfect to go up against Obama and the Dems, who have stated their desire to dismiss and/or circumvent the Constitution. (See Obama 2001 NPR interview regretting that the Constitution prevents the redistribution of wealth…but not to worry. Redistributionists can get around constitutional restraints via the courts and the legislatures. He didn’t, at that time, mention presidential fiat.)

The fight for the “soul of America” is a fight for the Constitution. Indeed, the question for all those in public office should be: “What think ye of the Constitution?”

Mitt is running as the sane, experienced, Common Sense, Constitutional Conservative…even tho Paulbots and others might gaffaw. We have to start some place–and this is the right place to begin moving the country back toward First Principles. Elect Mitt now; put Constitution-loving conservatives in Congress, and run an even more Constitutional conservative next time.

  16. Massachusetts Conservative Says:

    11 MWS,

    As usual, you’re nitpicking.

  17. K.G. Says:

The Fight for the Soul of America boils down to two factions: Unconstitutional Progressivism vs. Constitutional Conservatism.

Hillary was quick to crow she was a “proud progressive of the early 20th century.” Progressives strut around, saving humanity from itself by passing all kinds of laws to regulate negative human behavior and redistibute wealth from the haves to the have-nots.

However, great this may sound, progressivism is, at its heart, evil and denies those God-given rights guaranteed by our Founding documents. The only real way we will have a decent society is for people to learn correct principles and govern themselves. Schools don’t teach any of this any more; in fact the opposite. I used to fear that Romney didn’t get it.

    He gets it. Good.

  18. Ci2Eye Says:

Nice but the ad seems hurried and the music could be better.

Mitt, though, sounds as good as ever. He may have actually hired a speechwritter. I’ve always thought he could benefit from the eloquent prose of someone like Peggy Noonan but my understanding was that he wrote his own material. I belive that may have changed recently as evidenced by the “detour not a destiny” line.

  19. Jaxemer11 Says:

    Awesome!

  20. Ci2Eye Says:

    #1 BC,

Thanks for the link. Just started watching. Sounds like they are using Kid Rock’s ‘Born Free’ already.

  21. Keith Price Says:

    20. BTW, I believe Kid Rock gave all candidates permission to use his songs.

  22. Alex Knepper Says:

Mitt thinks that American decline is “a detour, not a destiny.” As long as we’re all sunny optimists, the soon-to-be $16,000,000,000,000 debt will take care of itself!

  23. Massachusetts Conservative Says:

    22

No, it won’t take care of itself. RomneyCare will! ;)

  24. Keith Price Says:

    22. Alex, you’re too funny. What a ridiculous leap to go from saying “it’s a detour” to “we don’t have to DO anything”.

Good grief. Have you been LISTENING to Mitt? He’s ALL about the ACTION.

But, I get it. You’re in mourning, so you probably aren’t in your right mind just now.

  25. Heath Says:

Hey Alex are you supporting Mitt yet?

I can tell you that there is no better feeling than being a Mitt supporter at the moment!
