New Rick Perry ad where his wife Anita talks about his life story.
Here’s the transcript:
Mrs. Perry: “It’s an old-fashioned American story. I married my high school sweetheart, but first I had to wait as he volunteered for the Air Force and flew planes all over the world.”
“I’m Anita Perry. When Rick’s tour of duty as a captain in the Air Force ended, he returned home to farm with his dad and asked me to marry him.”
“We grew up in small towns, raised with Christian values — values we still believe in. And we know Washington, D.C., could use some of that.”
Gov. Perry: “I’m Rick Perry, and I really approve this message.”

I can’t see the video because I am at work. But let me give a stab in the dark. It is a video of Rick Pery emphasizing his poverty-stricken upbringing (read not Romney) and his Christian values (read not Mormon). I am sure that the video will be knee deep in identity politics mainly because Rick Perry’s chances of winning the nomination are not going to be realized because of his ability to discuss actual public policy. We should all go vote for Rick because he is from rural country and says ya’ll a lot.

Good ad. As a Romney supporter, I am not offended by he is christian refference, or his fidelity implication.
December 22nd, 2011 at 9:03 am
Great ad for Texas. Let’s send him back to Texas.
December 22nd, 2011 at 9:11 am
Anyone else creeped out by the way Perry comes running into the frame at the end of the spot … kind of says “hey, I was standing just off-camera this whole time watching what my wife was saying about me.”
December 22nd, 2011 at 9:13 am
I busted out laughing at the end when he jumped out of nowhere like a little kid and says he “really” approves this message. I instantly forgot what Anita’s message was. All I could think of was Rick Perry wishing me a Merry Christmas by giving me that “cheese ball” cameo appearance. Now I just need some crackers to go with it.
December 22nd, 2011 at 9:17 am
Great timing, right after the Ann Romney ad. I still prefer Ann.
December 22nd, 2011 at 9:19 am
She wants it….more than he does. When he loses she’s going to be hell to live with. You can just tell.
December 22nd, 2011 at 9:29 am
The wrong candidate is running.
Anita Perry comes off as much brighter and more articulate than her husband.
December 22nd, 2011 at 9:30 am
This has been the craziest primary I have ever seen. You have a guy in Rick Perry who is toast that has a ton of money but no support and a guy that has strong support and no money.
Wierd primary.

In the mold of Julie Edwards, Hillary Clinton, and Jeri Thompson. Lol.
December 22nd, 2011 at 9:33 am
I meant ELIZABETH Edwards, not Julie… Julie Edwards is someone I know, haha.
December 22nd, 2011 at 9:36 am
Ed Rollins just called Newt a “whiny whimp” like “Bob Dole in 1988 against Bush” and that he is “cry babying.”
December 22nd, 2011 at 9:37 am
Thanks for the transcript. Turns out my comment at 1 was fairly accurate.
December 22nd, 2011 at 9:37 am
Youth pastor Perry. So cheesy, so wrong for the times. He positively makes Mitt look modern and timely.
December 22nd, 2011 at 9:38 am
Everytime I think there wouldn’t be anyone worse as Newt for President I am reminded Perry is still in the race.
December 22nd, 2011 at 9:39 am
12 Newt must be on the “depression” end of his bipolar personality. Its a bad time for that to be sure. If he can rebound to his manic stage by the caucuses, perhaps we will be treated to a Dean scream out of the Newt-ster.
December 22nd, 2011 at 9:40 am
Great ad. Love the message. I am voting for Gov. Perry.

LOL
December 22nd, 2011 at 9:44 am
With regard to this ad, it is certainly endearing.
It will not hurt his campaign, that’s for sure.
But with regard to Perry’s policies on illegal alien benefits, China, shared health care with Mexico, open borders, spending, and corruption, I cannot, and will not support him.
December 22nd, 2011 at 9:45 am
17. So your the one!
December 22nd, 2011 at 9:48 am
Yesterday, CF said that Ann’s hearty endorsement of Mitt was all the evidence needed to know that he’s a great man. Now that Rick has been endorsed by Mrs. Perry, CF might have to give him a second look.
December 22nd, 2011 at 9:50 am
Rick Perry is really giving Ron Paul a run for the money in which Presidential candidate most resembles a creepy serial killer. Rick please retire that red tie. My HDTv can’t handle it.
December 22nd, 2011 at 9:54 am
Perry needs to just retire and live comfortably on his excellent retirement package.
Oh wait…
December 22nd, 2011 at 9:59 am
IMO, Mrs. Perry should have stopped at “It’s an old fashioned American Story. I married my high School sweetheart”.
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:08 am
Good ad, but random ending, lol. XD
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:19 am
Good ad. Rick is playing up his folksy charm, which he has in no short supply.
Mitt and Rick both running ads like this will help them in Iowa, and will bleed support from Newt – that is their sole purpose. Humanize the candidates, connect with voters on a personal level, and take down Newt at the same time. Good stuff.
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:24 am
I am certainly not a Perry guy, but the little ending for me was not creepy. It reminded me of a guy who just loves his wife.
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:34 am
It’s a good ad, made to contrast Perry with Gingrich’s infidelities and Romney being an infidel. The ending was funny, in a not so great way. It was almost like Rick and Anita were about to get going with the way Rick rushed in there. “I really approve this ad, now let’s get it on!”
I get the feeling that when Rick was contemplating a run, the discussion at his house went something like this:
Rick: I don’t know Anita, I like it here in Texas, and things seem to be going pretty well.
Anita: You are going to run and you are going to like it!
Rick: But, well, um, you know, I, I, um, I don’t know if I, uh, want to deal with a national campaign.
Anita: Rick, this country needs you! and think how nice it would be to live in the White House.
Rick: Yeah, I guess that’s true, but you know, my back is giving me all sorts of cramps and pains, and maybe this just isn’t the time. Obama will probably win, and then we could swoop in in 2016.
Anita: (Raising her voice and wagging her finger), Now James Richard Perry, you listen to me and you listen to me good! I want you to be the President! And if you don’t think you have it in you to run, I’ll go shack up with Mitt Romney! I’m pretty sure his kind still take more than one wife!
Rick: Ok, Ok, I’ll do it.
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:42 am
I don’t want Perry anywhere near the White House, not even as a visitor, but I thought the ending and his endorsement was endearing. Good ad.
December 22nd, 2011 at 11:03 am
Doesn’t it seem like Rick Perry has been copying Romney’s campaign as much as he can? When he made his speeches before and at his candidacy announcement (way back when this year), his speech and rhetoric nearly matched everything Romney was already stating.
December 22nd, 2011 at 11:30 am
That’s great, but I could never vote for Perry after what I saw in his last ad.
December 22nd, 2011 at 11:37 am
Haha, that’s exactly what I thought when I saw it! Made me laugh out loud.
December 22nd, 2011 at 11:38 am
Rob,
LOL!
December 22nd, 2011 at 12:20 pm
Cialis commercial? Haha…I actually liked the ad. He’ll probably capture some of the older votes. If he doesn’t make it, he can join Bob Dole making blue pill advertisements.
December 22nd, 2011 at 12:48 pm
Good ad. The right thing for Perry to be doing.
Whenever I see Anita, though, I just see her crying on the pulpit about how Rick is being persecuted because he’s Christian.

LOL! Good one, Tele!

Rob, I had a similar image in my head, except Anita was yelling, “Now James Richard Perry, you listen to me and you listen to me good! I want to be the First Lady!”
December 22nd, 2011 at 12:52 pm
Rick Perry really is an excellent TV candidate. In debates and townhalls he ranges from mediocre to awful but he has great screen presence when the script is written for him- I practically jumped out of my seat when he popped up with that winning smile in the last 2 seconds. Too bad we can’t run Rick Perry and have him conduct his campaign from a bunker, sending off ads and scripted video sessions every once in awhile.
December 22nd, 2011 at 1:46 pm
It’s too bad he’s such a terrible candidate. He had so much promise before I knew about his record. Good video though.
December 22nd, 2011 at 2:22 pm
n’t wait until after Iowa when he quits. we all know he doesn’t want to be in the race at this point.
December 22nd, 2011 at 2:23 pm
I can’t believe the military let him fly planes. someone who cant even pull a c at a&m shouldn’t be flying military planes.
December 22nd, 2011 at 2:27 pm

28, well done. hilarious.
December 22nd, 2011 at 2:36 pm
40. He aced all his ROTC coursework along with the basic training.
Perry got a bunch of Medal of Honor endorsements, too:

So just stop the hate. It will age you prematurely.
December 22nd, 2011 at 2:47 pm
41. Yeah, we Romney supporters would LOVE it if people could “just stop with the hate”.
For me, it’s not hate of Perry, but fear that unsuspecting voters might actually put him in office.
December 22nd, 2011 at 4:13 pm
28# Great line… “contrast with newts infidelities and Romney being an infidel” I laughed out loud.
