    BOOM!

    There it is

  2. CF Says:

Cain led Obama by 2 as well during his boomlet. Give it a couple weeks, and then get back to me.

  3. copp Says:

It’s going to be fun watching the foolish fireworks as the overstuffed Gingrich blimp gets pricked, explodes gloriously and comes crashing down – somewhere in his own private New Jersey. Maybe into the backhard barbecue Chris Christie’s is having for Romney. (What if Chris Christie and Newty Newt were to meet today…and DEBATE!? The Battle of the Bulbous; a food fight for the ages; two generations of fat, going at it with gusto, one on one, winner takes all the cakes.)

If the adverb and adjective laden lardass Newt Gingrich isn’t brought down soon, the reputation of the Republican Party will probably never recover. The we’d have TWO dysfunctional laughingstock political parties at once. Good God. End of empire.

  4. Sir David Says:

    Outlier.

What will Gingrich’s numbers be once Americans learn about Newt’s two affairs? His lobbying?

Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to see Newt beat Obama. I think America would be slightly better off. I just think team Obama has got to be salivating about running against a lobbyist.

  5. Jared C Says:

So much for the argument that Newt would lose badly to Obama in the general election. I think the reason Newt was performing so poorly earlier on in his campaign was that he was rusty. Now that he has been in the game for a bit, he seems to be getting his old “sea legs” back. I am still for Romney, but I think Newt will be a huge hurdle if Romney is going to win this thing. I don’t see Newt falling like the other Non-Romney’s.

  6. Ben (One of those MittWitts) Says:

    2.

So did Perry – didn’t he? Well the bigger the boom the harder the fall. Maybe Newt’s will be a gradual fall to mirror his gradual boom.

  7. teledude Says:

This is why Newt will destroy Obama.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sw7HfTEWTAU&feature=player_embedded#!

You guys making the “electability” argument do not have a clue

  8. CF Says:

    7

And this is just ONE reason why Obama will eviscerate Newt.

  9. CR Says:

By an honest show of hands, how many Rombots would answer a pollster’s phone call and say “Ummmm…uhhhh…ohhhh…give me Obama(!!!) over Newt” to try to distort the real numbers?

  10. Johannes Bach Says:

Although interesting, this is the only poll I’ve seen so far that shows Gingrich leading (or even tied with) Obama from a national perspective. And even here, it’s still within the margin of error. I’m also a little skeptical about a net 8 point swing (+5 for Gingrich, -3 for Obama) in just a week. So I’ll be very interested to see if there’s any corroboration forthcoming to support the notion that Gingrich is even competitive with Obama nationally, let alone actually leading him.

  11. John Galt Says:

Good for Newt. Lets see if he can hold on to this, something Bachmann, Cain, and Perry weren’t able to do. Romney is the only candidate that has consistently outpolled obama so far.

the race is getting interesting. I believe that newt will hold his number better than perry or cain or the others, but i do think he is surging and will come back down to life in a few weeks.

  12. Ozzy Says:

Let’s get something straight here. I want Mitt to win the nomination(with Bachmann coming in second). I am not supporting Gingrich, but, should he win, I doubt it will spell the end of the GOP party. Many thought the GOP party was dead after Bush’s unfavorability and McCain’s failure to win. The GOP bounced back two years later due in part to the Tea Party, despite whether they are liked or not. If Newt wins the nomination and loses to Obama, it will not spell the end of the GOP.

I say this with confidence for two reasons. 1) With young talent like Palin, Ryan, Rubio, Jindal, Christie, Cantor, Haley, Sandoval, to name a few, the GOP has a promising future. 2) With Obama sinking the country further down people will rally in full force to the GOP in 2016. So, let’s see what happens in 2012 and should we lose to Obama, we will be down but far from out.

  13. Right Wingnut Says:

    7.

    Here’s another reason…

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dkaKwJ9eOUU

Mitt doesn’t have the ability, or the ‘nads to do that.

  14. loren Says:

    “BOOM! There it is”

Funny. That’s what I thought after hearing Bachman’s comments on Newt and after reading some on the commentary just now starting to come out on Newt.

  15. Anybody but Newt 2 Says:

Forget the national polls, I’d like to the see the numbers in states like FL, VA, OH, PA, NH, NV, CO, and MI — you know, states Romney is competitive if not beating Obama. States we need to win the general election.

  16. John Galt Says:

By the way, who names their kid “newt”?

  17. CR Says:

    •Barack Obama 43%

And let the good times roll.. 8)

  18. CR Says:

    16.

Who names their kid Herman? Or Willard? Or Dick?

  19. Ozzy Says:

    9,

Turnabout being fair play, would you answer a pollster and say ” Um, Um, give me Obama over Romney”?

  20. asparagus Says:

No executive experience will hurt Newt like it hurt McCain. Newt can’t win.

  21. CR Says:

    14.

Welcome, Bachmann supporter. Who’s your vp pick for her?

  22. Right Wingnut Says:

    16.

    LOL. Good point on “Willard.”

  23. teledude Says:

    8. So wrong.

Newt has addressed this and explained it. His explanation is perfectly satisfactory.

    also

He has an exemplary record on this issue including his testimony refuting Al Gore in a Senate committee hearing.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G7VUg7nG3lw&feature=results_video&playnext=1&list=PL9A74B85A1C7C434D

(oh that Romney would ever present an argument this strongly)

  24. Ozzy Says:

    16,

Actually Newt is short for Newton. His real name is Newton Leroy Gingrich.

  25. CR Says:

    19.

    NO! I’d say..

Give me Cain/Newt or reverse it, Scotty Rasmussen!!

  26. Spud Says:

So Newt is perceived to be the frontrunner, hmm? Interesting. That’s really all that these types of polls show before the general race.

At this stage, ANYBODY perceived to be the frontrunner will poll decently against Obama. My cat would poll well if perceived to be the frontrunner. Haven’t you people learned yet that whoever we nominate will poll like this, until it gets down to the general election time? People keep getting excited over fairly unexciting data. Call me when the wind is blowing towards a candidate who excites the younger voters to revitalize the party in the next election, who does well with independents, and who plans to balance the budget within one term while cutting spending and ending wars. Then I’ll do more than raise an eyebrow and yawn.

  27. copp Says:

Gee, Cain was leading Obama, Perry was leading Obama. Once. In each case after two weeks went by they were in nowheresville. But there’s no way that could ever happen to NEWTY! Why it’s a whole dufferent electorate now. They’ve truly wised up in these last few weeks. They’d never fall in love with an unknown quantity again. They’ve done their homework for real on THIS one.

This country’s got a little problem somewhere, doesn’t it?

Oh but there is ONE Republican who has polled consistently. I wonder what makes that one different than the other ones? Could it be he’s actually of presidential timber and that ain’t going to change the more people learn about him. It’s been 4 years or more so far….Yet there must be some hidden part of his history that we’ll discover any day now. Something so embarrassing, so immoral, so unethical. No, I’m talking here about Romney…not Newty. Why were you thinking Newty??

  28. casuist Says:

This tells you everything you need to know about Willard’s underperformance as a candidate with GOP base voters: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/12/04/magazine/mitt-romney-bot.html?_r=1&pagewanted=print

… The following morning in Des Moines, I met with Romney’s former Iowa chairman, Doug Gross. The strategist recalled how he had gotten off to a rocky start with the Romneys when he first traveled to Boston to meet them in the spring of 2007. That day, Gross brought up Romney’s potential liabilities in Iowa — including his previously progressive stances on abortion and gays, along with his Mormon faith — and warned that he would have to prove that he could relate to average voters. According to Gross (and confirmed by someone else who was there): “He got mad, his wife stormed out and he never talked to me the rest of the night. They found it insulting” …

This is not the behaviour of one who grounds his decisions in reality. This is the behaviour of a spoiled child.

  29. CR Says:

    Spud,

Is your cat named Herman, Willard or Michele by any chance?

  30. CR Says:

    27.

Obama-lite Mitt polls well. But the voters have the real thing now.

  31. Sojourner Truth Says:

    Hahahahaha.

    Charles Hurt:

Getting Republicans to line up behind Mitt Romney, it turns out, is like trying to stuff a cat into a trash can. No matter how you present the feline to the receptacle, at least one claw always manages to reach out at the last second and cling desperately to the rim.

    Yep yep yep. :)

  32. CR Says:

    28.

Reminds me of the Mitt from just yesterday (Tues) acting weird and testy on Fox News. No wonder he hides from the media and tough questioning. I would, too, if I were him.

  33. casuist Says:

    Yep yep yep.

I’ll say. Apt metaphor. It really feels like the establishment wants to stuff us into the Willardist trashcan.

  34. Boomer Says:

    >>Newt Gingrich is adamant that he is not a lobbyist, but rather a visionary who traffics in ideas, not influence. But in the eight years since he started his health care consultancy, he has made millions of dollars while helping companies promote their services and gain access to state and federal officials.

    http://www.nytimes.com/2011/11/30/us/politics/gingrich-gave-push-to-clients-not-just-ideas.html?_r=1&ref=global-home#

This is not the behavior of one who grounds his decisions in reality. This is the behavior of a flat out liar.

  35. casuist Says:

Reminds me of the Mitt from just yesterday (Tues) acting weird and testy on Fox News. No wonder he hides from the media and tough questioning. I would, too, if I were him.

Yes, in this cycle the imperious and hostile aspect of the Willard has begun to emerge. It isn’t pretty.

  36. Smack1968 Says:

Better start rallying the troops Mitt.

The ROMBOTS are running out of effective talking points.

  37. Boomer Says:

    Newt vs. Newt

    Newt in 2007:

    >>And doing it the right way means that all those who are currently working in the United States illegally and who wish to apply for the worker visa program must return to their home country and apply. Application for the worker visa program should not be permitted in the United States under any circumstances.

    >>Anything less than requiring people who are working here illegally to return home to apply for a worker visa is amnesty.

    http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1111/69432.html

This is Newt’s position. If you aren’t happy with it he has plenty of other ones.

  38. Ozzy Says:

Here’s a poll taken by Quinnipiac that I found interesting-

Regardless of how you intend to vote for President, which Republican candidate do you think is best described as – having a strong moral character? Rick Perry, Newt Gingrich, Mitt Romney, Michele Bachmann, Rick Santorum, Ron Paul, Jon Huntsman or Herman Cain?

    REPUBLICANS/REPUBLICAN LEANERS………………..

Tot Men Wom Con Mod Yes No

    Perry 7% 8% 7% 8% 7% 11% 4%
    Gingrich 9 11 7 9 5 13 7
    Romney 32 32 31 32 34 25 41
    Bachmann 11 9 13 12 9 13 7
    Santorum 6 7 4 7 3 6 5
    Paul 9 9 8 8 11 7 9
    Huntsman 2 2 2 1 4 1 2
    Cain 7 8 6 8 5 8 7
    DK/NA 18 14 21 15 23 18 18

I find it interesting that Romney and Bachmann are considered the two most moral candidates.

  39. Ozzy Says:

    30,

The GOP race comes down to what you falsely call Obama-lite in Mitt versus Clinton part two in Newt.

  40. casuist Says:

The ROMBOTS are running out of effective talking points.

They left the reservation some time back. Now they’re just making stuff up by way of an alibi for Willard’s appalling performance despite his overwhelming advantage in resources.

  41. Smack1968 Says:

Check out Newt.org for Newt’s position on Immigration and Immigration Reform.

If you don’t like Newt’s position, or if you don’t like how Newt evolved to his position…no problem.

    Newt will take the heat.

SMACKDADDY will take it with him.

    Si Newt 2012!!

  42. CR Says:

    39.

    Clinton > Obama-lite Romney

  43. Conservative Gladiator Says:

Romney is putting an ad out that is great and positive in NH. Romney hasn’t lifted a finger and soon he will. Give Newt two more weeks. His record speaks for itself and will come to the surface regardless of the wagons that are circling. Romney will do some to move the negative aspects of Newt along. Nothing more needs to be done. Force Rush and everyone else to circle at their peril and hypocrisy. Newt’s numbers will come down and Romney’s positive message will resound in the end.

  44. copp Says:

I think the cats that rational people are trying to get into that trash can are the nuts in this party who LOUDLY go from cheering for Palin to Trump to Perry to Cain to Gingrich. They are the ones who desperately cling to someone/anyone to to keep from getting shuttered.

But their caterwailing has driven everyone crazy by now. They’ve overstayed their welcome.- and they are finally going to get the lid closed upon them for good. And then sane people will be able to hear themselves think again.

  45. Sojourner Truth Says:

I don’t know about you all, but I’m going to be much too busy with Christmas shopping over the next to few weeks to worry about paying attention to the Rombot attacks (er, “vetting”) of Gingrich.

    Who is with me?

  46. Maverick1995 Says:

This poll indicates that Gingrich would get 79% of the Republican vote, while Obama would get 90% of the Democrat vote. This is similar to other national polls. I think that history shows that when we actually have a nominee the Republican vote figure will be somewhere in the 90% range, which would give Gingrich or any other Republican even better numbers against Obama. Basically, what I am saying is that I think that most of the Republican candidates would be very competitive against Obama in the general election.

  47. Sojourner Truth Says:

But their caterwailing has driven everyone crazy by now. They’ve overstayed their welcome.

But somehow they outnumber Romney backers in FL by 41 to 17.

  48. casuist Says:

But their caterwailing has driven everyone crazy by now. They’ve overstayed their welcome.- and they are finally going to get the lid closed upon them for good. And then sane people will be able to hear themselves think again.

Those cats are GOP voters. Will you “sane” Willardists organize your own party or something?

  49. casuist Says:

But somehow they outnumber Romney backers in FL by 41 to 17.

You would need a trashcan many times the size of Willard’s entire base of support. So to correct the original metaphor, you have to imagine that the “cat” is a Bengal tiger and the person who wants to stuff it into a waste-paper basket is 2 feet tall and slathered in a tasty vinaigrette.

  50. Sojourner Truth Says:

    UH OH…

    ***WEEE OOOO WEEE OOOO***

As football season winds down, (actually over for my team after beating our crosstown rivals, 50-0 on Sat).. I turn to baseball anticipating the coming Spring and imagine my fav candidates as players.

Out of our current field PLUS Huck who could always jump in:

    Starting Lineup

    1. Huck ss (usually gets on base)
    2. Michele 2b (my li’l scrappy second baseman)
    3. Perry 3b (slow talker but gets the job done)
    4. THE CAIN p (bats cleanup, pitches, does it all)
    5. Newt c (my catcher, of course, think Yogi Berra)
    6. Santorum rf (ulta-right-fielder outa Philly slugger)
    7. Huntsman Jr cf (centerfielder deluxe outa China)
    8. Paul/Johnson lf (my platooning LEFT-fielders)
    9. Buddy Roemer p (he just sounds like a Nolan Ryan)

    Benchwarmer – Willard

  52. Dave Says:

This lead won’t last. Obama’s attack machine is licking its chops and biding its time.

  53. Dave Says:

    Ozzy,

Romney and Bachmann ARE the two most moral candidates.

  54. CR Says:

    50.

    ST, :)

In that case: IA + NH = Our Nominee

But the trusted and true formula remains:

IA + SC = FL and the nomination

  55. casuist Says:

    Benchwarmer – Willard

Willard has the butt for it. Or at least he did before his developing pear-shape suddenly diminished at the same time that his furrowed forehead mysteriously smoothed to the tautness of a baby’s bottom. Better living through surgery.

  56. Teemu Says:

Seriously we have aloof “professor” already in a White House, who likes to talk to the masses, but has trouble in real human interaction and leadership, but at least he seems to be a decent family man, and somewhat decent person. He is one of the few speakers who has been driven out by his own party, because he was such a bad leader, corrupt in political and personal life and so liberal.

  57. CR Says:

Cain blasts critics for ‘character assassination’

    cnn.com ^ | Nov. 30, 2011 | CNN Wire Staff

West Chester, Ohio (CNN) — A defiant Herman Cain tried to turn the tables on his growing legion of critics and accusers Wedneday, blasting them for allegedly engaging in gutter politics and giving no indication of any immediate intent to abandon his embattled presidential campaign.

“They have been trying to do a character assassination on me,” Cain told an enthusiastic crowd in Ohio. “They are attacking my character, my reputation and my name in order to try and bring me down.” “I don’t believe that America is going to let that happen,” he declared.

  58. casuist Says:

He is one of the few speakers who has been driven out by his own party, because he was such a bad leader, corrupt in political and personal life and so liberal.

Yes, and I say he deserves another chance. Go Gingrich! Whip Willard!

You are absolutely right. Now apply that standard across the board.

  61. casuist Says:

You are absolutely right. Now apply that standard across the board.

Yes, and when I do, I discover that Gingrich has a sense of humour many orders of magnitude in advance of the humourless mannikin you call “Willard”. To wit: http://campaign2012.washingtonexaminer.com/blogs/beltway-confidential/gingrich-fires-back-romney/227631

As Romney’s words were aired on Fox, Gingrich was addressing a town hall in Newberry, a performance in which Gingrich didn’t mention his Republican opponents. But speaking in a relaxed setting at a restaurant across the square from the Newberry Opera House, where the town hall had been held, Gingrich had a few words for Romney.

“Let me just say, if attacked, I’m happy to clarify and defend myself,” Gingrich said. “I have no need to attack Gov. Romney, because candidly, I’m happy to have the votes he doesn’t have.”

“If I can simply mobilize the — ” Gingrich said, pausing for a moment. “Assume that Ron Paul’s votes are not gettable. That’s ten [percent]. Assume that Romney has — what do you want to give him, 25? I only want the 65. I’m not greedy.”

    We are the 65%

  62. blue Says:

I would bet huge if newt gets the nomination, a major 3rd party figure runs…bloomberg or huntsman.

  63. Bob Hovic Says:

Ozzy (12): “I am not supporting Gingrich, but, should he win, I doubt it will spell the end of the GOP party.”

Thanks for a voice of sanity. The hyperventilating by some folks shows why so many deserve the title ‘Rombots’ instead of ‘Romney Supporters’.

Calm down, folks. First, these recent polls (just like past polls showing Romney ahead) are just a snapshot in time. If you would keep your heads and not start picking out new drapes for the Oval Office when Romney is ahead, then you wouldn’t go into such a meltdown when he’s losing.

Second, it’s not the end of the world (nor even the Republican Party) if Romney loses, nor (for the other side) if he wins. Life goes on, the sun will rise tomorrow, and all that stuff.

  64. Conservative Gladiator Says:

The “sacrifice Romney crowd in the name of ‘conservatism’” can have their day in the light with Gingrich. Soon they’ll go back in the darkness when the truth of their agenda against Romney comes to the surface and they’re left to their own devices. I actually fear for Romney should he win the nomination at this point. I will vote for Romney in the primaries but I will vote for no one in the General if Romney is not the nominee. Why? Because I refuse to let “conservative” media opinion dictate to me what I should and should not think and I have seen that in full force with the Rush’s of radio, the socon Tea Party, and other web media and even TV pushing people like Trump and now Gingrich. I thought these outlets believed in conservatism. I know now that many in the GOP are led like sheep by them. The first and most important principle that these so called conservatives have compromised is the value of truth and fairness for others. They’ve shown a circling for Trump, Cain, and now Gingrich and barely lift a finger for Romney and now are in full force to smear him. It’s not right.

Win or lose Romney can say that he ran a fair, above the board campaign. That he did all he needed to do to win. Can this GOP crowd who have influence honestly say that they were fair to Romney as they were the others? NO! Those who back Romney are aware of the substance of the man and from his actions, he’s very much a family man…a business man…a turnaround specialist…and a successful conservative governor of a liberal state. The man is conservative to the core nothing more, nothing less. If they pushed Bachmann or Santorum or Paul or Huntsman at this point I would be okay with it. Gingrich is none of the things that Romney is I mentioned. Gingrich is no different than Obama – a career politician with an ability to talk his way out of corners that he puts himself in. He may push conservative ideas and has some of that in his past but the bad outweighs the good and he is far and away, as is Obama an enormous flip flopper. Should Newton Leroy Gingrich be the nominee, I will stay home and I will be an independent conservative. I’d rather this country be led by a proven lying career politician than a proven career politician hypocrite chosen by a party full of a bunch of hypocrites.

  65. teledude Says:

    64. You don’t sound much like a conservative gladiator.

Why do Rombots insist on misusing and defaming that word.

Or do you just find the irony humorous?

  66. Gunlock Bill Says:

9 “By an honest show of hands, how many Rombots would answer a pollster’s phone call and say “Ummmm…uhhhh…ohhhh…give me Obama(!!!) over Newt” to try to distort the real numbers?”

By an honest show of hands, how many RomNOTs would answer a pollster’s phone call and say “Ummmm…uhhhh…ohhhh…give me Obama(!!!) over Romney” to try to distort the real numbers?

I see that ALL of you have your hands up. Just what I thought. After all, some of you have said you would vote for Satan before you would vote for Romney.

  67. The REAL Truth Says:

    CR
once again proves he is stupider than anyone thought possible.

  68. Conservative Gladiator Says:

65 – Sorry I believe conservatives aren’t hypocrites. They stand by principle and truth. If you’re someone who does that then come talk to me. Have you been fair in your assessment of Romney as you have with the others? Truly? Comparing apples to apples?

Where’s the irony? I’m conservative and have not let people in conservative media dictate my thoughts. I see a decent man being treated very differently from the others. It’s not right. I don’t care that it’s my party. I’m conservative first based on principles. I look at the totality of the person’s life regarding who I want to lead me and and my country. Do I think Gingrich is a decent man? NO and his past proves that! Do I think Herman Cain decent? I question who he is now and I can say that based on what’s out there. I’m sure his family has a lot of questions too and saying he’s being attacked is not enough. The person to lead our country should be a decent person through and through. I don’t believe that someone who sounds smart and gets huffy in a smart way should be at the top if he or she doesn’t have the morals and personal life and background to back it up. The irony is that conservatives in the Republican party do now. I choose not to be part of that if that’s the case.

  69. Matthew E. Miller Says:

I’ve become more philosophical about politics of late. I’m content to let the Republican Party hang itself. As Marianne Moore said about poetry, I say about politics: there are things that are important beyond all this fiddle.

America is again witnessing the MASSIVE PROPAGANDA MACHINE OF THE CENTRAL GOVERNMENT. This government which violates that constitutional protection and due process that is rubber stamped by a fraud judicial system. It is Tammy Hall all over again. The players are the same. They do not listen to the people and when a true and courageous successful man like Herman Cain emerges, they set up him this Propaganda machine of Monopoly Media Giants. They continue to promote two men who will never have the “fire in the belly” to lead us out of the dark forest of Southside Chicago Politics. Those two are Romney and Gingrich. Once again, the GOP is falling for the the propaganda and street theater that the DEMS are famous for. Herman Cain is the only light that will free from the darkness of racial and gender politics of division which they call diversity. We are loosing our Nation to this Globalized Media Machine. I stand with my fist raised for Herman.
