Still going for the win in Iowa Mitt?

Mitt better start spending some time and money in Minnesota…get a nice win before Super Tuesday.

  2. PabloZed Says:

Guess we have our confirmation of the Insider Advantage numbers.

  3. SteveT Says:

It is interesting to see that Bachmann’s numbers in the last two polls are coming up. If Newt starts to dip, she could be in for a second shot at this.

  4. heatherglam Says:

can newt beat barack hussein obama? what a crazy election.

  5. Dave Says:

Doing a ‘voters’ poll in a caucus state doesn’t tell you much….except which way the wind is blowing, and who has it at their back. Gingrich is clearly the beneficiary of Cain’s descent and Mitt is out of favor with most Iowa Republicans…..something that’s been there for awhile. This poll probably also tells us that Bachmann’s claims to have identified more supporters in the state than Huckabee got in 2008 aren’t as preposterous as they sound, albeit still hyperbolic.

As a Mitt supporter, I take away from this the fact that no one besides Gingrich is in Romney’s way, and it will be ridiculously easy for him to beat expectations in the state. He should sell his economic and electability messages while leaving it to Perry, Bachmann, Santorum, and Cain to help bring Gingrich down.

In light of polls like this, they’re not going to be trying to bring down Mitt.

  6. Boomer Says:

This seems like the most likely poll. Romney is basically holding steady without doing anything, yet. Cain is cratering and Newt is getting the benefit and Bachmann who has a one state strategy of Iowa is getting a marginal rise.

Organization means everything in Iowa from here on out.

  7. Max Twain Says:

Poor Newty fans, setting themselves up for yet another massive disappointment.

“Question 4: Are Newt’s three marriages a problem for you?

All said absolutely yes, but to varying degrees. What seemed to bother the group more than the divorces (and several in the group have been divorced) were the affairs and the seeming lack of public repentence for them. Some in the group feel Gingrich has done enough to restore their faith in him, most did not, though. Which lead to the follow up question 5.

Question 5: Did Newt do enough at the Family Leader’s Presidential Forum to atone for his baggage?

Most said no, one said yes.”

  8. Smack1968 Says:

As I have been pointing out…..in the last couple of polls….. it has been shown it is Romney’s support that is the most wobbly. His “Strong Support” numbers have been much weaker than Newt’s.

Team Mitt has a “Mitt” problem……not a ABR problem.

The question is…who is going to become the Anti-Newt?……Huntsman??

  9. PabloZed Says:

    Max,

  10. teledude Says:

    Max for Perry

    Max for Christie

    Max for Romney

dude just can’t pick ‘em and it has turned him bitter!

Sad to watch such pathology expressed without embarrassment. I’m guessing it’s something in his upbringing.

  11. teledude Says:

BREAKING: NRO reports: Cain told senior staff this morning that he is “reassessing” whether to stay in race. Will make final decision soon.

  12. davidg Says:

    Nice Florida get for Mitt.

  13. Smack1968 Says:

Max was just telling me yesterday that it would be an embarrassment for Newt if he didn’t defeat Mitt in Iowa as much as Huck did in 2007.

The shoe is now on the other foot.

    Max can’t handle it.

Max is having a melt down.

  14. Ryan60657 Says:

    11. What is the over/under on when Cain pulls out? Tomorrow? Friday?

  15. ccr Says:

If Michele wins Iowa w/Mitt in 2nd…..it would create some hope in the so-called religious Christians in that state. I hope that religious bigotry doesn’t win out in Iowa. What a shame for people calling themselves ‘Christians’. Newts flip flops are so much more numerous than the media or ABR groupies are truthful about.

  16. Not Your Promiscuous Daddy Says:

If things don’t change very soon then it appears that Newt will be the next nominee.

  17. Booyeah Says:

14, Cain doesn’t pull out. That’s his whole problem.

    BaZING!!!

  18. Nusrat Says:

Hand to god, if Herman Cain says “the court of public opinion” one more damn time…

  19. teledude Says:

    15. It’s not a flip flop if you change your position due to new information. It’s foolish NOT to. (see RomneyCare)

It’s a flip flop when you change for political expediency, to pander for votes. (see Mitt on abortion, Ronald Reagan, TARP, auto bailouts, ad infinitum)

  20. CR Says:

    Kabooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooom!! ;)

    Okay…

Who jinxed Willard? I have to know! ;)

What happened to Willard from ’08, the slick dude who actually garnered caucus votes in the mid twenties, folks?

    AND who jinxed Willard EVERYWHERE??????

  21. The REAL Truth Says:

Newt is the socon evangelical christian champion????? interesting very interesting.

  22. Boomer Says:

    19.

Yes, we’ve all heard Newt’s talking point of the day.

What, pray tell, were the changing facts that got Newt to get off Pelosi’s couch, flip on his Libya stance in two weeks, go from supporting a national mandate to no mandate at all, and on and on and on.

Newt has changed his strategy from attacking Obama to attacking Romney as the True Conservative candidate. Let’s see how long that lasts.

  23. CR Says:

Palin’s gotta get back in now! She’s just gotta stop the Bachmann suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuurge!

    Or endorse her.

    You go, girl! :)

  24. Petunia Says:

CR yes you seemed to have irrepairably sullied the good name of the only honest man in this race.

You win the battle but lose the war.

The Republican Party stands for corruption and graft. And nothing else. All those other things, family values, fiscal responsibility, strong defense… those are all gone now. And all because you hated Mitt Romney more than you loved America.

    Obama wins.

  25. K.G. Says:

#19 It all goes to motivation. Mitt changed on some things, but his so-called “flips” have been exaggerated and even mischaracterized in many ways. Newt’s changes have been because he just talks and talks and talks and talks and says whatever pops into his head at the moment.

I have to say I would rather a president make policy changes based on a calculation rather than on blathering, just because you love to hear yourself talk. People need to spend more time analyzing what Newt actually says as opposed to the way he says it.

Somebody (and I hear somebody is starting to do it @ NRO) needs to make a list of all of Newt’s contradictions and nutty statements.

  26. K.G. Says:

I said before when Cain was rising: People, he’s snowing you. I’m saying now, Newt is snowing you. And your ski goggles are fogged up. Please, come to your senses.

  27. AJNolte (executive experience in 2012, please). Says:

Bachmann should start beating the crap out of Newt in 3, 2, 1…
One of them should be irreparably damaged by the exchange. She’s already started trying–inneffectively–to go after h8im on immigration. Slaps at his moral issues can’t be too far behind.

  28. Max Twain Says:

Poor Smack and Tele, their candidates’ ships sunk and they are treading water hoping the Gingrich lifeboat will save them some face.

Having to turn to Gingrich, now that is truly sad.

    ====

Or if you change because you have no true convictions. I think Huck put it best in 2008.

    “Romney has no soul.”

  30. teledude Says:

    28. Max, really?

    From the Christie/Perry/Romney loser?

Google psychological projection. Then look in a mirror.

  31. Greg Says:

One thing that we can all agree on is that the democrats are very happy to see newt gingrich rise. this is the man that they want to face

  32. CR Says:

Dear Huck, Michele, James, and Herman,

You made me hold my nose and take another sniff at Newt.

    Are you happy now?

    Signed,

    Craig

P.S. Are any of you running in 2016? 8)

  33. CR Says:

    Telly and Max,

Listen to the words of Rodney King?

    Stop it, dudes!

  34. Dave Says:

Newt’s rise came from the Tea Party wing, but ALSO by making encroachments in the ranks of traditional Republicans…..the vetting process will see him lose the latter. As for the former, it’s anybody’s guess.

The so-called ‘Establishment’ wing of the party will coalesce behind Mitt in a much more coherent way than before. Stephen Schwarzman’s fund-raiser for Mitt on Park Avenue is a clear sign of this. The man Fortune Magazine dubbed the “new king of Wall Street”, and who is the co-founder of the Blackstone Group, will open up fundraising channels for Mitt that have previously been closed.

Face it….Newt’s broke. He can’t compete down the stretch. THIS is why Max is sanguine about the outcome of this process.

  35. PabloZed Says:

    CR,

What is your answer to Mitt’s falling fav’s? His support among men in IA has also tanked. Was it the debate? His immigration flip flop? Did he say OWS were people too?

  36. CR Says:

    34.

Right on as always, Rombot Dave!

    I’ve ordered your bumperstickers..

    Wall Street For Willard

    Bail, Bail, Bail! Romney ’12

Who Wants New Office Chairs? Mitt for Pres!

  37. K.G. Says:

Mitt’s “falling faves” are due to Newt’s ability to snow people with his speech and the Teavangelicals’ INability to take a keen look at what he actually says and what he actually does.

  38. K.G. Says:

Which street is more dangerous for Main St.? Wall St. or K Street?

  39. The REAL Truth Says:

    CR

you have the mental capacity of a 5 year old.

    I’ve got your bumpersticker:

    CR is a political whore

  40. PabloZed Says:

Rombats are getting hysterical. Instead of attacking why not formulate a strategy for Mitt since clearly his own political team is lost at sea.

  41. Dave Says:

So, Craig, you think it an advantage for Newt to NOT have enough money to run ads in Florida for more than a week? And THEN only if he stops spending anywhere else?

You didn’t see the coming political demise of Bachmann, Perry, or Cain…..and you can’t see it coming for Newt.

Well, it’s coming. It’s coming with a vengeance.

  42. Max Twain Says:

    Dave,

Don’t waste your time with these Angle/O’Donnell nuts, it’s like trying to get your dog to understand Chinese.

  43. CR Says:

    35.

    Pablo,

It’s simply the “it” factor. Always has been. And Mitt ain’t got it. The more they look, the more the public feels something ain’t right with him. Seems insincere or something worse.

And his record as governor is a total unequivocal disastrous mess. C’mon under his watch: Mandates, Exhanges, Subsidies, Outlandish Fees, Massive Business Taxes, Dismal 47th in Job Growth, Pathetic $50 Abortions, Planned Parenthood and Abortion Judges Appointed Right and Left… on and on and on.

Time for Romney to get on his knees, grovel, beg, and plead with a true conservative, Huckabee, Help me!

Look, what Huck has abundantly in true solid principles, heart and soul — Romney sadly personally and politically has zilch in comparison.

  44. CR Says:

    Dave the Rombot,

    Keep burying your oversized head.

We true conservatives, tea partiers, and Main Street folks will never, ever, ever let Romney be our nominee. No way. Period.

Put THAT in you pipe and smoke it, my friend :)

  45. K.G. Says:

“The Romney campaign is lost at sea?” Yeah, right.

As for demanding the “it” factor in a POTUS: How’s that been workin’ out so far? When the “it” turns to “shi%?”

  46. CR Says:

Great point, PZ. But if you read any of their posts, it’s obvious we’re dealing with children incapable of strategy.

Mudslinging and personal attacks are their only forte. Kinda like 4th graders.

We need Adults in the Republican Party, not kiddie bots.

  47. K.G. Says:

#44: Fine and dandy. It’s good we already know how to say President Obama.
