Wow! Nine point swing! Why is Romney slumping?

I really think at this point Republicans are damaging the party brand with all this nasty infighting from the candidates and the voters.

Mitt still does the best against Obama. But even if he didn’t right now, he’s still far and away our best candidate.

Romney looks the most presidential though … but he should, since he’s been practicing, by running for president for about the last five or six years.
November 2nd, 2011 at 10:22 am
It’s being reported on other sites, I didn’t hear it myself, that Newt was on the radio defending Cain this morning.
A beautiful move by Newt if true. If someone can confirm this to be true on this site, please say so.
Smackdaddy thanks you.

Rick Perry more likeable than Gingrich and you say this makes your day as a Gingrich supporter? ROFL
November 2nd, 2011 at 10:43 am
So Gingrich won by a point over Romney on poll question of who was best debater, up 3 on Romney for 2nd in NC, and thats pretty much it.
November 2nd, 2011 at 10:51 am
Smack,
Of course Newt has to defend Cain. You can’t be a known serial adulterer asking for absolution and then kick the guy who may or may not have sexually harrassed someone 15 years ago.

That’s amazing, considering he’s a 10 year governor of the nation’s second largest state.
The debates absolutely destroyed him.
November 2nd, 2011 at 11:10 am
This poll, and many others, establishes that Romney is the one guy on our side who can take out Obama. By a 19 point margin, voters believe him to have the knowledge and experience necessary to be a good president. EVERY OTHER REPUBLICAN in the race is upside down on this, the most fundamental, question of electability.
This poll also establishes that Obama isn’t going to be easy to beat, and that anyone who says he is is leading you down the proverbial primrose path. Throughout the entire campaign, we have had ONE, and ONE ONLY candidate who can defeat an incumbent President with a Billion Bucks to spend on the campaign…..a President who’s one of the best campaigners in the history of American politics.
Obama starts with Blacks, Hispanics, Welfare State Dependents, Government Workers, Environmentalists, Union Workers, most of the media, the homosexual lobby, the entertainment industry, and dozens of other demographic groups. He’s not going to be easy to take out.
Meanwhile, a large percentage of ‘movement’ conservatives are dedicating themselves to taking out the one guy on our side who CAN take him out.
November 2nd, 2011 at 11:11 am
Hey Quinnipiac, sure is fun to shift your sample dramatically from one poll to the other and imagining a fake world where there are that many more Democrats than Republicans.
November 2nd, 2011 at 11:15 am
Independents broke for Romney by five points in this survey just as they did last month, yet there was a nine-point swing. It simply appears that this month’s sample added a large number of Democrats to skew the results and create the illusion of Obama improving, when in reality he is in the same position among swing voters as last month. Nice try Q-Poll.
November 2nd, 2011 at 11:15 am
BTW,
Obama knows his one threat is from Mitt…..so his organization is doing everything it can to destroy him. It’s the same tactic the Democrats used to get Angle the Senate nod, knowing that she was the only Republican in the field Harry could beat.
They’re past masters at dividing and conquering the Right.
November 2nd, 2011 at 11:16 am
Romney has been dehumanized by all the lies.
The right is shooting themselves in the head.
If Romney does not win Conservatism is dead.
In fact the Republican Party will be dead.
There is an obvious excellent choice.
Yet the voices of hate in the Republican Party are winning.
I have no desire to be part of the party of hate.
November 2nd, 2011 at 11:18 am
Dave,
You can’t blame this on Democrats.
It is right here in our own mist. The people who call themselves Conservates are full of hate. They have destroyed this Party.

#2 Firecracker,
The Anti-Mitt crowd on the Republican side is doing great damage to Romney right now. I think that is why we may see a fall in his numbers.
Erik Erikson, a Perry or Cain guy depending on the week, had a take-down of Romney on his radio show last night that was far more harsh than what Democrats could’ve served up. It was as intense as anything I have ever heard. He was even citing and promoting a DNC run Anti-Mitt site and although much of what he said wasn’t true, I am not sure his Republican listeners know that.
This kind of in-fighting will no doubt damage Mitt who may end up as the nominee since Erikson’s side, represented by the Teavangelicals, doesn’t have a solid alternative. In the end, the mud-slinging on our side could help to re-elect Barack Obama.
My opinion is that the latest round of intense Anti-Mitt rhetoric from our side is errupting out of frustration that all the Teavangelical candidates appear to be imploding and the Anti-Mitt crowd is faced with the reality that they don’t have a clear alternative. Thus, all the fire-breathing “we can’t let this guy win” talk.

#6 Craig,
That’s exactly what we want. We want someone that has studied, pracaticed, rehearsed and knows what he wants to do. We need a guy who is ready to lead on January 20th. That is not a liability. What we don’t want is another President that attempts to wing-it. We’ve got that President now.
November 2nd, 2011 at 11:24 am
“If Romney does not win Conservatism is dead.
In fact the Republican Party will be dead.”
LOL!
Okay, Petunia. Be honest. Was 2008 the first election you really started paying attention to? I don’t mean in a casual, watching the news sort of way. I mean, really started to follow, study, and get emotionally invested in.
November 2nd, 2011 at 11:25 am
24. I think you’re right.
26. Just because our own party is ALSO attacking Mitt doesn’t mean Obama’s team isn’t also piling on, for good measure!
November 2nd, 2011 at 11:28 am

29. That’s certainly the case for me. I was one of the very casual voters who mostly just noticed a few headlines and just voted along party lines.
This year, I’m paying very close attention to the prez race.
November 2nd, 2011 at 11:34 am
#31 Keith,
I’m in! Thanks for the invite. While I don’t normally believe in pledges and think politicains should never give in to them no matter how noble their intent, I am not a politician so I will pledge to join your cause.
Having said that, the notion that wanting to be President really bad, and practicing for it, and planning for it is a bad thing, is an insane idea. I think that’s exactly what we want from every candidate that seeks to lead us.
November 2nd, 2011 at 11:53 am

I agree…The daily mantra by the anybody but Mitt tea party conservatives has taken it’s toll on Romney, who BTW is the only candidate who had the numbers and skills to beat Obama…
I also believe the Rush and Levine six hours a day hate speech for the established Republican party has spread discontent and has divided the GOP….
November 2nd, 2011 at 2:10 pm
we may be entering a period of a modest Obama poll recovery. As has been the case the last two years since the end of the recession, year end economic growth has tended to be better than the first part of the year. Look at GDP and unemployment. Improvement in the fall, early winter and slippage in the spring and summer. Now notice the RCP approval ratings for Obama are off their late summer lows. Not saying this is the start of a full fledged recovery in the economy or presidential ratings but a perceptible improvement in both this does appear to be.
If we are in a borderline economy next year…a marginal GOP candidate really isnt going to cut in the general
November 2nd, 2011 at 2:25 pm
We need a new candidate. Will anyone reconsider> Daniels, Huckabee, Giuliani??
Romney is utterly disliked by the conservatives and Cain is a complete flake.
I hope Perry bounces back.
