  1. asparagus Says:

These attempts will fail. Noone cares anymore. Romney is the only guy on stage that can stand next to Obama. Even the hardest-core conservatives are starting to come to grips with it.

  2. lolromney Says:

Romney getting the nomination is handing Obama four more years without a contest. I’d just stay home if Romney gets it, and not bother voting.

  3. 999MeansJobs.com Says:

Nice to see Cain’s ATTACK DOG #2 at work!

    Sic him, Hunts-boy! 8)

  4. GNV Says:

Jonny Boy can run all the attack ads he wants: his dad will still wish Jr had turned out more like Mitt.

    Just give it up, Huntsman.

  5. Conservative Gladiator Says:

2 – Stay home or go and create a new Tea Party with Cain, Perry, Huntsman, Bachmann and Gingrich. Beat and scream about true conservatism with no idea how to truly advance it. This ad is weak sauce from a weak candidate.

  6. Smack1968 Says:

Great stuff…..and there is more of that coming this way.

    Good job Jon.

In this ad it shows MItt Kerry looking straight into the camera and giving us a version of his “core” beliefs based only upon an election he was trying to win.

What if he is doing the same thing now?

    How can we ever tell?

Is it real, or is it a Romney?

  7. Matthew Kilburn Says:

Yeah. Time for the Romney campaign to just destroy Huntsman. Period.

  8. Sojourner Truth Says:

    Awesome!!! Freakin’ Awesome.

Sanotorum needs to do one of these. And then Cain. And then Perry. And then Gingrich.

Just beat the hell out of Mitt. Leave him dizzy. Make him so toxic that he’d have no prayer in the general election.

  9. Sojourner Truth Says:

    Ahhh the flip flops…

    They’re real. And they’re SPECTACULAR…

    :)

  10. Adam Graham Says:

Good ad in terms of fundamental message, and style.

Bad ad in terms of actually helping the campaign. People who watch the ad who agree with the content of the ad are likely to watch it say, “Okay, who the heck is this guy?”

Huntsman needs to sell the positives of him rather than the negatives of Mitt.

  11. Matthew Kilburn Says:

“Huntsman needs to sell the positives of him rather than the negatives of Mitt.”

You’re assuming he actually believes he can win the Nomination, and the White House, and isn’t just looking to take our Romney…

  12. Smack1968 Says:

    Destroy Huntsman?…Huntsman at 0.2%.

For you Rombots to believe for one second that the other candidates were not going to use this treasure trove of goodies on Romney…well…..you all must be 100% absorbed in the ROMBORG.

Mitt Kerry is going to look like John Romney when this is all said and done.

If Mit survives, he will be a stronger candidate for it….if he loses…well thank God we got rid of the Rockefeller just in time.

  13. Sojourner Truth Says:

Kilburn gets it right. Huntsman just wants to nuke Romney.

We all ought to send him a thank you card.

  14. Matthew Kilburn Says:

    “Sojourner Truth Says: ”

It will be a very happy day for me when Romney wins the nomination and you have to crawl back down into the dark hole you came from and leave the rest of us in peace.

  15. Smack1968 Says:

    Adam,

    Good point.

  16. Sojourner Truth Says:

Mitt Romney Needs a Censor. For Himself.

    http://news.yahoo.com/going-off-cuff-romney-does-himself-few-favors-170246093.html

  17. Matthew Kilburn Says:

    “Destroy Huntsman?…Huntsman at 0.2%.”

Let me rephrase that….destroy his credibility.

  18. Sojourner Truth Says:

14 – If Mitt Romney does get the nomination, I’m just going to redouble my efforts to see that he goes down in flames in the general election.

Hopefully he doesn’t get the nomination.

  19. Matthew Kilburn Says:

“Mitt Romney Needs a Censor. For Himself.”

    Cheese with your whine?

Are you making a substantive criticism that we can debate, or just piggybacking off of someone else’s smear for convenience?

  20. Sojourner Truth Says:

19 – Whine? Nah. That’s what the article was formerly titled.

And I’ve made plenty of substantive criticisms. It’s nice to see Romney getting smeared from major media outlets though. Anything that brings him down is good for the GOP.

  21. Smack1968 Says:

    Sojourner Truth,

I have said this to you before and i will say it again. If it comes down to Obama vs. Romney in the General you need to vote for Mitt.

    Period.

Once Romney is President and starts using us Conservatives in his Rockefeller Triangulation scheme..well…then yes…..we kick him out of the oval office in the biggest landslide of all time.

  22. Sojourner Truth Says:

    Heheheh.

Huntsman: “Romney’s a perfectly lubricated weather vane”

    http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2011/10/28/huntsman-romneys-a-perfectly-lubricated-weathervane/

  23. GetReal Says:

18 – “If Mitt Romney does get the nomination, I’m just going to redouble my efforts to see that he goes down in flames in the general election.”

Astroturf, eh? Now it all makes sense.

  24. Jonathan Says:

Stupid ad. Stupid in the sense that it gives the voter no reason to vote for Huntsman. If the attack on Romney had been cut by about 20 seconds and replaced with positive reasons to vote for Huntsman, then it would’ve been more effective.

Also, going negative at this stage indicates desperation and while Huntsman is desperate , it’s best to not appear that way.

  25. Massachusetts Conservative Says:

Jon Huntsman is spending his OWN money attacking someone, and that is it. That is all he has done this campaign, and it’s all he will ever do.

Now let’s go address these attacks one by one…

    (1) Ohio Union laws – Romney supported them before this week, supported them all week, and still supports them. He was unfamiliar with the ballot initiatives and he said “I stand behind what Governor Kasich is doing with regard to the size of government and spending.”
    (2) Yes, he changed on abortion.
    (3) “didn’t say he made things worse” – that’s called a gaffe. We all say stupid things or say things that didn’t carry the desired meaning. Lighten up.
    (4) Reagan – As they say, “Reagan becomes wiser as we get older.” Twenty years ago, Romney was less of a fan of Reagan than he is now. And that’s true of most Republicans.
    (5) Gun laws – protecting the 2nd Amendment and supporting gun regulations are NOT mutually exclusive. I don’t think anyone wants convicted sex offenders and former robbers running around with AK-47s. But it does NOT mean that we think American citizens have a right to defend themselves.

  26. Sojourner Truth Says:

21 – Think about what you’re saying. You’d rather vote for Romney now, knowing he’d do what he always does, and tack to the tenchnocratic left.

I’d rather not support Romney, should he get the nomination. That way the Republican Party and conservatism still stands for something.

You’d rather torpedo an inadequate Republican incumbent. I’d rather not see him attain the office in the first place.

  27. Sojourner Truth Says:

24 – Maybe Huntsman doesn’t really care if he wins. Maybe he just doesn’t think Romney should.

  28. Jonathan Says:

    #27:

Running for President yourself is about the least cost-effective way to prevent someone else from winning. Starting up a SuperPAC, being a relentless surrogate on someone else’s behalf or even just bad-mouthing them on the news is much less difficult for them or their family.

  29. Sojourner Truth Says:

28 – You ever start something with the best intentions, and then later become of the opinion that killing yourself over it and giving it your absolute all wasn’t worth the effort?

I’ve done it with term papers in college. I feel like that’s what Huntsman is doing with his campaign now.

  30. Smack1968 Says:

Reagan – As they say, “Reagan becomes wiser as we get older.” Twenty years ago, Romney was less of a fan of Reagan than he is now. And that’s true of most Republicans”

    Bull SH^T!!

Reagan was kick ass among the GOP in 1988 and this country, and that is why GHB, his VP, won the Presidency..first sitting VP to win since Van Buren.

“Reagan becomes wiser as we get older.” I have never heard of that saying…that must be a Massachusett Rockefeller thing.

Romney not being a fan of Reagan really makes me disbelieve he truly has a Conservative core.

Then throw his Pro-choice in “94″ in the mix….his Romneycare in the mix……his “C” CATO grade in the mix…….being against Contract For America in the mix…….NRA cheap shot in the mix……

    …throw it all in there and it quacks like a Rockefeller….swims like a Rockefeller…poops like a Rockefeller….well…..

    ..then it’s no Reagan Conservative.

Newt was on the front battle line with Ronnie in the war against the Libs in the 90′s while Mitt was brushing his hair.

    Newt 2012!

  31. Sojourner Truth Says:

Reagan became wiser just as it was in Mitt’s best interests to perceive him to be.

    What another amazing coincidence.

  32. Smack1968 Says:

“Reagan became wiser just as it was in Mitt’s best interests to perceive him to be.

    What another amazing coincidence”

The comment of this election cycle.

    UNBELIEVABLE!!!!

I’m pissed off I didn’t come up with that.

    Soj T,

I will be stealing that one for the next couple of months…I hope you don’t mind.

    HOLY SMOKE!!!!!!

  33. Jeff Says:

27, if that were the case, he should drop out and open a PAC, so he doesn’t have a donation limit…

  34. John Says:

    Obama’s newest ally: Jon Huntsman!

  35. Smack1968 Says:

    John,

Oh you are so right. We should not speak ill of Mitt Kerry weaknesses just in case the Obama team hasn’t figured it out yet.

  36. Massachusetts Conservative Says:

    30 Smack

    Reagan WAS kick-ass in 1988.

Now, he’s STEEL TOE BOOT TO THE COLON-style kick ass!

  37. Sojourner Truth Says:

32 – Haha steal away. I like the “Is it real, or is it a ROMNEY?” line myself.

  38. Bob Hovic Says:

Adam (10)/Jonathan (24): I agree that in conventional terms the ad is flawed in that it gives no reason to vote for Huntsman, but I don’t think that necessarily applies in this case.

Typically, a negative ad in a multi-candidate primary aids the other candidates. But Huntsman is running a campaign where all his chips are on New Hampshire — whatever infinitesimal chance he has is predicated on winning or at least coming close there.

His obstacle there is Romney and Romney alone. Attacking Romney will not, I don’t think, drive NH voters to Perry or Cain — they are just not the right candidates for NH. So adopting a strategy of bringing down Romney is quite reasonable in Huntsman’s circumstances.

    Adam: I agree it’s a very well-done ad.

  39. ccr Says:

Sojourner………..you’re having such a delightful evening with all of this hate for Mitt, aren’t you?? Can’t get enough, can you?

    Sad……….

Huntsman is sad, too. After 2 terms as Gov. in UT, Huntsman loses to Mitt by big numbers in polls. Really? They must know something.

  40. econ grad stud Says:

Mitt Romney will fare about as well in 2012 as John Kerry did in 2004 and for the same reasons.

I’m not saying Mitt Romney wouldn’t be a passable technocratic George HW Bush sort of President. He’d certainly be better than Obama. He just has nearly no chance of surviving a general election where ads much worse than this would run.

I think Tea Party types should stop worrying about 2012 and let Mitt Romney be Obama’s punching bag. We’ll have a chance for much better candidates in 2016 with Bob McDonnell, Mitch Daniels, Bobby Jindal, Rand Paul, Paul Ryan, Marco Rubio for just a few examples.

2012 we just got a bunch of lesser quality politicians running for the GOP nomination.

  41. Boomer Says:

    >>I think Tea Party types should stop worrying about 2012 and let Mitt Romney be Obama’s punching bag. We’ll have a chance for much better candidates in 2016 with Bob McDonnell, Mitch Daniels, Bobby Jindal, Rand Paul, Paul Ryan, Marco Rubio for just a few examples.

I hate to break it to you but either McDonnell or Rubio, both of whom Romney campaigned for and supported with $$, are likely choices as a VP for Romney. Hell, McDonnell is practically begging Romney to pick him and Romney is using Rubio’s team in FL.

Romney is the only one in the race who can stand on the stage and go toe to toe with Obama. Have you watched any of the debates? Perry can’t even stand up to other Republicans. Cain isn’t going to be the nominee. Newt? Please.

It’s amazing how many people who claim to be political junkies only get their info from blogs or the msm. Romney’s record in MA is one of fighting liberals tooth and nail on issue after issue. He will do an excellent job if he gets to the White House.

  42. Rob Says:

Huntsman has no ground to talk about flip flopping. One day he can’t define if he is an active member of his church, and then two days later he is proud to be a Mormon when he realizes people won’t find his waffling about religion endearing. Talk about a lack of core. Huntsman is stillpissed that the SLC Olympics committee didn’t choose him to save the Olympics.

  43. Mom Says:

Yep. Huntsman is pretty smarmy. This would have gone over bette coming from Cain, ‘cept Cain is too decent. SO, there you have it citizen of the world global warming lover.

  44. NightOwl Says:

It’s worth noting that the Occupy movement is primarily liberal (not entirely!). I expect them to have an effect on the next election as something of a counter-tea party. What will they see when it’s Obama vs. Romney? A community activist liberal vs. a wall street conservative. They’ll turn out to vote in similar numbers to the tea party in 2008.

Romney is a very bad choice, he’s too wall street for this cycle. He’d be crucified. Not that he can’t get the nomination, he has a good shot at it…but as for the general election? Only vote to nominate him if you want to see Obama win and the democrats to maintain their edge in the Senate, while possibly picking up a few more house seats. He’ll turn out the vote for Democrats when the Occupy movement paints him as the big bad Wall Street guy trying to oppress them further.

I hope we all have more sense than to nominate him.

  45. Michael Says:

I think simply if the unemployment rate is above 8% on election day, Romney wins. between 7 and 8…close election; no one knows. below 7%, Obama wins.

If Cain or Perry or Gingrich are the nominee, they will have a tougher road

  46. Matt "MWS" Says:

Good ad. Rombots who assume the public is “tired” of this this stuff need to realize that normal people don’t think about politics every day, year in, year out, during all seasons.

  47. Doug NYC GOP Says:

Smack – I thought you jumped onto the Romney train a few weeks ago and now you are off it. Your a flip-flopper yourself and quickly becoming the Craig for Losers2 on these threads.

SoJourn – You so negative and narrowminded it doesn’t deserve comment. It nice to see you express your self w.o profanity though. I guess you are growing up.

Last year, all the anti-Romney talk had himbeaten so badly with Health Care, he wasn’t supposed to make it out the debats. Funny how he OWNS the debates and you have stuffed shirts like Rush now discounting them to help the cowadly Perry.

So keep up all your negative BS, people don’t like it and it’s all been said before.

I hope you all enjoy yout time as lackies, toiling in the fields of the DNC.

  48. Not Your Promiscuous Daddy Says:

Huntsman’s sole purpose in this race is to torpedo Romney. Jon doesn’t care who gets the nomination as long as it isn’t Romney. And that type of strategy is just fine with several commenters here on this thread. The party is disintegrating and the Mitt haters are only too happy to cheer that on.

  49. Matt "MWS" Says:

    Doug,

“Last year, all the anti-Romney talk had himbeaten so badly with Health Care, he wasn’t supposed to make it out the debats.”

That’s before we knew we’d get the suckiest field imaginable.

  50. Matt "MWS" Says:

But yes, it does appear that Mitt will be crowned king of the Lilliputians next Summer.

  51. marK Says:

I’ve got no problem with this ad. You better believe that the Democrats are going to beat Mitt over the head with the “Flip-flop” charge. Anyone who thinks differently is naivé. It’s called “vetting”.

As Doug pointed out, only six months ago all the talk was about how “RomneyCare” was going to be the death of Mitt. People talked and talked and talked about it. The result is it’s all old news now. Mitt’s immunized to it.

Now here are Mitt’s opponents beating on the “flip-flop” issue. Bring it on. Let them beat on it again and again and again. So when it comes time for him to go up against Obama, Mitt will become immunized to it.

  52. marK Says:

    Matt.49,

    Sour grapes, perhaps?

  53. Matt "MWS" Says:

    marK,

Not really. I’m used to losing elections, and football games. I’m generally attracted to the hopeless cause anyway (St. Jude is my patron).

It’s more a growing sense that we’ve been living a fantasy the last 30 years, and now that the Boomers have squandered the wealth of 3 generations, this is going to be the new norm. Our politics are fundamentally broken, our electorate refuses to make any personal sacrifices, and everyone is all too willing to find scapegoats. Our system selects for this type of “leadership” that will guarantee the permanent decline of this country. It is what it is.

It’s just another reminder that St. Augustine had it right 1600 years ago. If we put our faith in the City of Man, it will only lead to disappointment and heartbreak.

  54. DitchBall Says:

How is Huntsman not embarrassed by himself? The guy needs to realize that his daddy’s name will only get him so far and he’s already surpassed that. Disappear Jon.

  55. TennJoe Says:

Have your laughs Sojourner. But, if Obama wins because of idiots like you, who gets the last laugh. You’d rather see the country go down in flames than vote for Romney? Nice, your a real patriot.

If Obama wins again, everything you say you believe in will be in jepordy. No way to stop the health care bill with his veto. If it goes into full effect, we are just about done as a strong nation. As you watch this nation go broke and Americas flame fade as a world power, I hope you will be able to sleep at nite.

Truth is Sojourner, you don’t give a crap about the future of this country!

  56. TennJoe Says:

Oh , and you say you love Reagan, Sojourner? Well Reagan said your 80% friend IS NOT YOUR ENEMY.

  57. aspire Says:

These are the kinds of ads you run when you’re polling so low you might soon stop getting invited to the debates.

  58. jaaron Says:

Smack – you are “the height of hypocrisy” to borrow a phrase from the intellectual Perry. You were all over the Mitt bandwagon, now you are sayin that for the sake of conservatism we have to save ourselves from Mitt by electing…wait for it…Newt Gingrich. Mr. I cheat on my wife who has cancer while leading the charge against a president for doing the same thing (albeit it was officially perjury). Really? That is the conservative hope? That is what will unite the SoCons and the Tea party (which by the way has been hijacked by So Cons)???

This ad could have been made against any candidate, especially when pulling material from 20+ years ago.

  59. mike Says:

Abraham lincoln said, “My policy is that I have no policy.” Political representatives must consider the nations current needs not just their political platform.
