Robert Costa over at NRO is reporting that the rumors that Christie is considering a run are real:
In conversations today with Chris Christie’s inner circle, the message was clear: The Garden State governor will probably not decide by Sunday. He also does not feel pressure to announce anything on Monday or Tuesday. He knows the clock is ticking, and is well aware of the speculation, but will not be rushed.
…
The takeaway as of early Friday evening is this: He’s closer now to running than he ever has been, but there are numerous considerations — personal and strategic — that could tilt him away from the race.
So either Christie’s inner circle is lying about Christie’s intentions, or the governor really is contemplating a run. I’d bet on the latter. None of this means that a Christie run will actually happen, but folks shouldn’t simply swat these rumors down without first considering the sources, and thinking through the implications.

Oh, thank God.
I was starting to wonder if life was worth living.
September 30th, 2011 at 6:25 pm
Christie will knock the wind right out of Perry. Christie will become the frontrunner for October.
If my choices boiled down to Christie, Cain, Huntsman, and Romney I would be a happy man.

You know what? If someone other than you said that, it would probably NOT be a joke.
September 30th, 2011 at 6:29 pm
So let’s settle this once and for all.
If you Google “Chris Christie running” you get “about 17,700,000 results”
If you Google “Chris Christie not running” you get “about 41,500,000 results.”
Consider about 1.2 million of the hits in the first search come from this site, or are doctored photos of the fat man jogging, it’s pretty clear to me, he ain’t running.
But it’s also clear to me that some people will still be humping his leg until the convention.
September 30th, 2011 at 6:30 pm
MassCon,
Well thank God my sarcasm is well known.

I think part of the results for “Chris Christie Not Running” are from including the extra word “not” – which can lead you to links that have nothing to do with “Running” “Christie” or “Chris”
But your point is well-taken.
September 30th, 2011 at 6:38 pm
I wish he would just do it or not do it.
It’s kind of important if we can go from (what I view) as a 2 to 1 chance that Romney is our nominee if Christie stays out….to a 2 to 1 chance that Christie is our nominee, if he runs.
September 30th, 2011 at 6:44 pm
I want Christie to run so the moderates and ST will have a solid candidate with principles they can believe in.
Plus the reaction from Matt “MWS” and the other Rombats here (and everywhere) will be pure Comedy Gold if Christie jumps in
September 30th, 2011 at 6:45 pm
MassCon,
My main point- and my serious point- in #5 was the last line. All the other stuff was my typical sarcasm.
September 30th, 2011 at 6:45 pm
MWS,
Not high on Christie I take it? I’d think you’d be pining for anyone to stop Romney, with your guy slowly running in place and Perry Mitt’s only serious competition.
September 30th, 2011 at 6:47 pm
Craig,
I must say, I’m impressed you’ve stuck with Perry this long.
September 30th, 2011 at 6:49 pm
2. That’s not how it works when a superstar northeastern moderate jumps in to challenge another northeastern moderate who polls around 20 tops after six years running for the nomination with $50 mil of his own money.
September 30th, 2011 at 6:50 pm
Once again, Craig proves how ignorant he is when it comes to non-Southern based conservatives in that he thinks Rombots will be scared of Christie. Quite the contrary – Christie is more than welcome to jump in. Another legitimate option against Perry is always a good thing.
2 1/2 year corruption-cleaning Governor Christie
or
10 1/2 year corruption-loving, coffer-filling, pay-to-play Governor Gardisil.
September 30th, 2011 at 6:52 pm
MEM,
“Not high on Christie I take it?”
Oh, I liked watching Chris Christie porn on YouTube as much as the next guy, when the notion of a governor flogging public unions and cutting support for local schools was a novelty. And I still like the guy, for what he is. But anyone who needs to be stroked for a year and a half before he deigns to run is not going to be a good candidate- no matter how stellar his Q&A. And 1 1/2 years of high office is simply not enough to make me confident that he would be a good President.
But mostly, I’m sick of the nauseating fetishizing of him.
September 30th, 2011 at 6:52 pm
12.
I stick with my southern socon 10 1/2 year governors for years and years, no matter how much the Rombots hate that idea.
September 30th, 2011 at 6:56 pm
10
Oh. Well yes, I totally agree with that.
We are going to have pathetic losers beating the Christie, Daniels, Ryan, Palin, etc. drum all the way until the convention. There is no doubt about it.
Actually, it may well last longer than the convention, and perhaps even AFTER election day.
Kill me.

We don’t hate the fact that you support Perry, we hate the fact that you won’t stop spamming this site with tweets and useless 2 month-old polls.
September 30th, 2011 at 7:01 pm
16
You’ll need to move to Texas because that is where Perry will be, unless they run him out.
September 30th, 2011 at 7:04 pm
I am behind Romney. But if Christie is better then I want him.
I don’t’ think Christie is better. I don’t’ think he has the experience–but may be he has something else that makes up for it. I don’t’ really think that is possible. He has been a bureaucrat his whole life. I don’t see how that translates into the kind of experience needed to fix the huge problems the country has.
I know his record is a big deal in New Jersey, but it was really easy to see what needed done, it just took courage to do it.
I’m not sure the nation’s problems only take courage. I think they take a deeper understanding of all the consequences. Jumping in and doing the wrong thing might make things worse.
Plus, the entire world is looking for leadership on the world economy. Merkle in Germany has been the closest thing to world leadership we have since the US is out as far as leadership goes.
And as well as Christie plays on You tube, I don’t see him making the same impression world wide.
I find it hard to believe that Christie has what it will take to lead the world out of this recession. He is a lawyer who attacks unions.
How does that compare with either Romney or even Cain.
In my line up, Christie would be third or fourth choice after Romney, Gingrich/Cain (or the other way) then Christie.
I actually don’t see him adding much at all to the race.
We already have all the bases covered.

I have seen a lot of harrumphing today in the Liberal media about Christie’s vigorous physique. If Christie gets in and wins the nomination, his robust girth will be an advantage not an obstacle. Christie will contrast favorably to the first couple who are trying to mandate health foods on America. The public will side with Christie vs. President arugula and reject the whole liberal “health food” and “wholistic” living lobby.
September 30th, 2011 at 7:10 pm
Pruce,
“Christie’s vigorous physique….. robust girth.”
LOL! I love you Pruce. I really do. You have such a unique perspective on things, and an interesting way of framing them.
September 30th, 2011 at 7:12 pm
Personally, I’m thinking if Chris were more “vigorous” in his physical activity, and less “robust” when spooning on his portions, he wouldn’t be such a “fat ass.”
September 30th, 2011 at 7:17 pm
Since N. H. Moved it’s primary qualification up to Oct 17 to 28, Christie may have 3 weeks to qualify in both Florida and N.H. That requires a major in state effort in both states almost immediately. Not so easy

October 28th is now the absolute dropdead date for any candidate! Period. End of Story.
September 30th, 2011 at 7:26 pm
Dave G,
In all seriousness, his weight will cause him problems politically. Some be will discount the self discipline of a man so obese. Some people will doubt he’s up to the physical demands of campaigning and the Presidency. Some people- quite frankly- will wonder if he can survive 2 terms without a major health crisis.
Plus there’s your run-of-the-mill bias against candidates who are short, ugly, bald, deformed, or fat. Americans are like that.

AP from less than an hour ago:
TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is reconsidering his decision to stay out of the race for the White House in 2012 and is expected to make a decision soon, according to several people close to the governor with knowledge of his thinking.

Much of the impact of a candidate is buried deep in cultural cues. To middle America, Christie’s ample physical stature will signify leadership, strength, a common sense body-image vernacular and political heft.
Christie could be formidable and I wouldn’t discount the potential splash he could make if he decides to dive in.

Once Christie reconfirms his hyper-Shermanesque denial for the 10,000,000+nth time, what other improbable non-events will the newsies have to report on? The potential resurrection of dinosaurs in a real-life Jurassic Park? Genetic engineers working on winged swine to poop on your windshield — and the appropriate heavy-duty windshield wiper blades to address the challenge?

This whole thing is really tiring. Lets just nominate Romney and beat Obama please.

Is he reconsidering his reconsideration of his reconsideration? If Krispy Kreme Christy jumps in the whole world will feel it.
This is what Conserative New Jersey says about Christie.
“Chris Christie continues to mesmerize people with what he says, but no one is looking at what he really does. It is about time for America to wake up and start doing their homework on our Governor.
There is an old saying; “You can talk the talk, but can you walk the walk”? Governor Christie has the first part down pat. Unfortunately for the citizens of New Jersey he never has learned to follow through on the second part.”

September 30th, 2011 at 9:21 pm
Matt,
Simply, the next polls that matter after the OCT debates will be the ones after the next (Nov, Dec, Jan) month’s set of debates before we do the Iowa caucus night.
Right now we’re in no man’s land because of the quirky Cain (who is not viable at all having never been elected to ANYTHING) and Christie’s plans, of course. But it’s mostly Cain borrowing the conservatives temporarily from Perry.
Whuch you will see after the October debates when Cain crashes and burns.

If he does run (which he won’t) he isn’t going to be the savior you all want. Why not actually take a look at the guy before you swoon over him? You all did this before Perry got in, and then once you learned the truth he fell like a rock. It is getting a little unseemly. I thought Republicans were supposed to be smarter than this.
October 1st, 2011 at 11:17 am
Christie needs to make a decision now if he is going to get in. He has to get petitions signed to get on the ballots. That isn’t as easy as it sounds. Romney started that effort months ago.
