New Poll: The Purple Poll

I found a new poll online (h/t RightSpeak). It is called the Purple Poll. It focuses exclusively upon likely voters in the 12 swing states which have decided the election in the past 12 years. These states are: Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Minnesota, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, NorthCarolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Wisconsin.  They are often called the “battleground” states.

They divided the states up into four groups: the “Wild West” (CO, NV, NM), the “Heartland” (IA, MN, WI), the “Rust Belt” (NH, OH, PA), and the “Southern Swing” (FL, NC, VA).

Here are a couple of results from their September polling. A complete report may be found here:

Obama vs. Romney

Total 43 46 11 3

CO,NV,NM 42 45 13 3
IA,MN,WI 48 44 8 -4

Non-College 42 45 13 3

Romney leads almost everywhere. Not counting the Democrats, the President leads only in the “Heartland” and among Females.

Obama vs. Perry

Perry doesn’t do nearly as well as Romney against the President. He leads nowhere in the country. He does manage a tie with Obama in the “Swinging South”. The only demographic he leads are the Males and among fellow Republicans. Everyone else goes to the current occupant of the White House.

  1. Rick Perry/Jeb Bush 2012! Says:

So with the margin of error, CONSERVATIVE Perry and MODERATE Romney are essentially tied with LIBERAL Obama.

Let’s go with the CONSERVATIVE, folks.

We tried the MODERATE McCain last time and how did that work out?

Ask Rush Limbaugh if you’ve forgotten.

  2. Rick Perry/Jeb Bush 2012! Says:

We need our grassroots conservative base stirred up fully with MAXIMUM enthusisam for our nominee to take down Obama’s enthusiastic liberal base.

Romney ain’t the one for that.

Let’s go with Perry. FTW! :)

  3. Rick Perry/Jeb Bush 2012! Says:

Also Perry doesn’t piss off Hispanics like Romney is apparently determined to do. (See Romney’s current anti-Mexico/Mexican ads.)

    Ah Craig
Another one on one debate with yourself. To my point, yesterday. you need your own blog where you can pick different Perry combinations and debate yourself

Nice spin you worthless liar. Normally I try to treat others with respect but you are clearly a dishonest hack who lies a majority of the time you write stuff here. It has a kind of lost the shock value though so better find others to annoy. On to the poll though…

I think the key tidbit for me is the number of these states that have large populations of retirees. Perry would get punished over SS just like we are already seeing in Florida. Perry is unelectable because he performs badly everywhere outside the south. Only Romney at this point can deliver the White House.

  6. thetruth Says:

If Perry was a honest conservative, or a conservative at all, I may consider him, but hes NOT.

    And performs poorly there too.

    2. Pinocchio/Gardasil: “We need our grassroots conservative base stirred up fully with MAXIMUM enthusisam for our nominee to take down Obama’s enthusiastic liberal base.”

This race was clean and positive until Pinocchiox3 entered. Even as the front runner he was the first negative campaigner this race has seen. He’s simply practicing the same politics he became known for in TX–deceptive and dirty. If anyone is going to cause the base to lack enthusiasm it will be Perry. Fortunately, people are becoming aware of his lies and they’ll soon be ignoring him.

    Perry who????

  11. Viking Says:

I think we almost all agree that Perry is electoral poison now, unless he turns himself around big time. From the Midwest numbers, Romney will lose MN for sure, probably win IA and WI will be on the knife’s edge. Romney should win all the other states except maybe NM.

  12. SixMom Says:

This great information. I’ve always wondered about the swing states, and having it all in one place is nice.

I’m not sure what could save Perry at this point. There are just simply not enough Craigs (like RP/JB above) to resurrect him. By the way, Perry had the top spot, and all the advantages yet he sunk himself.

  13. Bloodshy Says:

    9. Do you think anyone clicks on your sources anymore? They all link directly to Perry’s campaign website. I understand though… it’s the only source of data Pinocchio’s minions can find solace these days.

  14. Rick Perry/Jeb Bush 2012! Says:

    Listen up, folks..

Romney’s rhetoric is just downright problematic from a political standpoint. The three states that the Obama team appears to be most concerned about are Nevada, Colorado and Virginia (or so it was as of a couple of months ago). Two of those states obviously have a relatively large Latino population (and yes, many of them are registered to vote and do vote, though exit polling data doesn’t always give us as full a picture as we would like about Latino voting behavior). And in Nevada, at least, it’s a growing population, too: Per the Wall Street Journal, “Nevada added more than 44,000 voting-age Hispanics [between 2008 and 2010], more than double the increase of 18,000 voting-age whites.” Census data meanwhile shows that between 2000 and 2010, the percentage of the population that is Hispanic increased from 17.1 percent to 20.7 percent in Colorado; in Virginia, hardly considered a major Hispanic population center, it increased from 4.7 percent to 7.9 percent over the same period.

Undoubtedly, yes, some of these individuals will not be eligible to vote. However, according to Republican operative Hector Barajas, “Every 30 seconds a Latino turns the age of 18.” Some of those will be illegal immigrants, brought here by their parents. But many will be US citizens. And then there is the question of Latinos eligible to vote, but not registered– a problem that it’s reasonable to assume the Obama campaign will look to rectify.

Are many Hispanic voters disenchanted with Obama? Sure. But Latinos vote more Democratic than they do Republican, as a matter of course. They also generally loathe a lot of bog-standard Republican rhetoric like some of that which Romney is employing: “illegal alien” seems like a pretty obvious example. Perhaps the biggest kicker here: Polling suggests that Hispanics care deeply about opportunity issues, and education– really the policy focus of Texas’ version of DREAM, which Romney is attempting to bludgeon Perry with– is one of those.

Afraid to debate, I see. That figures.

Respond to #14 if you have the intelligence to do so. Btw, which is a trait you have never shown before as a Romney fanboy here at Race off and on.

  19. K.G. Says:

Perry had the top spot. He didn’t have to go negative on Romney; he didn’t have to lie about Romney. Romney’s been around forever and has weathered all that stuff; it wasn’t going to dent Romney. All Perry needed to do was sell himself to voters who had high hopes, but sparse information.

    Perry did just the opposite.

What’s the hideously embarrassing clip that has from viral from John Stewart to Rush Limbaugh? Perry’s attack on Romney that didn’t come off.

  20. Doug NYC GOP Says:

Romney is Conservative AND had wider appeal for the General Election,as this very detailed poll shows.

Perry can barely hold his home turf and is toast outside the South.

With Huck’s tacit endorsement of Romney after Saturday’s show, Perry will be a distant memory.

  25. SixMom Says:

#22 With all respect, I think you’re holding the mirror the wrong way. I haven’t been here to blindly bask in the Romney love or bash Perry mercilessly without reason. But it seems you’ve been doing the exact opposite with non-credible statements.

Truth is, I would take Perry over Obama. We’re all on the same side (generally speaking) and when we quit bickering so hard, the Republican house will stand.

  26. thetruth Says:

    18

    I will respond to #14

So you, because your a Perry lover, would just keep on using tax payer dollars to support people who have no standing in this country.

The fact is Perry is the biggest LIAR to come along since Al Gore, maybe that’s why they were such close friends?????

  27. K.G. Says:

#14 I think you’re right. Romney’s calculation with his illegal immigrant remarks will hurt him with Hispanics. That’s what it’s come to in America (as I’ve been ranting since the last election). You get a huge number of any ethnic group and they determine elections. Perry managed to play to them in TX even tho any sensible person has to agree that open borders and creating magnets is a horrible policy for America.

But McCain pandered big time to Hispanics and I can’t see that it helped him a bit; they still went for Obama (because he’s a Dem) at least in the Southwest. I cannot speak for Florida Hispanics.

But legal Hispanics down here see attacks on “illegals” as attacks on Hispanics in general. Mitt seems not to get this. For this reason, as I’ve been saying forever, the Hispanic vote may keep Dems in power till the Millennium. It’s damned if you do and damned if you don’t for Republicans.

Should have sealed the border decades ago and instituted a sane immigration policy. Thanks Ronald Reagan.

  29. K.G. Says:

Unionized Hispanics will truly give Mitt (or any Pub) a run for their money in NV. All the casino, restaurant, hotel workers are unionized. On election day, they are rounded up and bussed to the polls. Somehow they get time off to do this.

  30. Doug NYC GOP Says:

Perry hold less than 80% of the GOP against Obama. Pathetic.

  31. DaveG for Christie Says:

It’s going to be hard for any Republican to win the IA/MN/WI trio against Obama. Liberal Democrats seem to do better in those states than moderates. Those three states were among the Dukakis 10 in 1988, even while they moved right during the Clinton/Gore/Kerry years, when Democrats ran more centrist campaigns. I think someone like Romney is more likely to win in the Rust Belt than in the IA/WI/MN trio.

  32. Bloodshy Says:

    15. “Afraid to debate, I see. That figures.”

LOL why would anyone waste time “debating” with you? All you do is deflect, change the subject and post more spam. You’re hopeless.

My kids attend a bi-lingual elementary school where they are required to learn Spanish as part of their curriculum. I have no choice in this. My wife and I don’t have a separate vehicle to transport our kids to another non-bilingual school.

Every day, my son brings home all his homework in Spanish, including Math. Fortunately, I speak and read it to help him with it, but if that weren’t the case we would be in a pretty dire situation.

This is what America is coming to. MY American-born children are being forced to learn the language from another country while our neighbors refuse to learn English.

Rick Perry’s stance on this disgusts me in a deep, personal, way.

It’s a waste of time. I took 3 years of Spanish in High School, my wife took 6 years of Spanish from Middle School through High School. After all that, we still weren’t able to speak to or understand a native speaker.

I learned to speak Spanish fluently after about 2 months being immersed in it on the streets of Lima Peru. There wasn’t another English speaker for 20 miles to bail me out. THAT is how you learn Spanish or any second language for that matter. My son has been in the bilingual program for 3 years and still can’t speak more than few phrases, but the rest of his education is sacrificed.

If people want to be naive and believe they’re helping their kids learn Spanish, that’s their right. But don’t FORCE people in the Public School system to learn it.

By the way, I live in the reddest state in the nation and these dual language school programs come down from the very top.

You guys aren’t giving Perry enough credit, here read his bio.

James Richard “Rick” Perry (born March 4, 1950) is the 47th and current Governor of Texas. A Republican, Perry was elected Lieutenant Governor of Texas in 1998 and assumed the governorship in December 2000 when then-governor George W. Bush resigned to become President of the United States. Perry was elected to full gubernatorial terms in 2002, 2006 and 2010. With a tenure in office to date of 10 years, 283 days, Perry is the longest continuously serving current U.S. governor, and the second longest serving current U.S. governor after Terry Branstad of Iowa.
Perry served as Chairman of the Republican Governors Association in 2008 (succeeding Sonny Perdue of Georgia) and again in 2011.[3] Perry is the longest serving governor in Texas state history. As a result, he is the only governor in modern Texas history to have appointed at least one person to every eligible state office, board, or commission position (as well as to several elected offices to which the governor can appoint someone to fill an unexpired term, such as six of the nine current members of the Texas Supreme Court).
Perry won the Texas 2010 Republican gubernatorial primary election, defeating U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison and former Wharton County Republican Party Chairwoman and businesswoman Debra Medina.[4] In the 2010 Texas gubernatorial election, Perry won a third term by defeating former Houston mayor Bill White and Kathie Glass.[5] On August 13, 2011, Perry announced in South Carolina that he was running for the Republican nomination for President of the United States in the 2012 presidential election. Political observers and public opinion polls place him as a front-runner in the race.[

The NYT article today details how Obama plans to win without Ohio, by concentrating those better- educated voters inhabiting Colorado, Virginia and North Carolina. Romney is the counter to that plan, as his appeal has been to higher education/income voters.

  77. Firecracker (Romney/West) Says:

69 — As opposed to you spamming this page with your ususal bullshit?

  78. Massachusetts Conservative Says:

    50 Firecracker

Good for you! Thanks for helping Mitt!

  79. Bobinator Says:

Craig, now you are not only an idiot, you are really paranoid. Everything involving and surrounding you distracts from intelligent debate.

  80. Rick Perry/Jeb Bush 2012! Says:

    79. Spoken like an arrogant Rombot.

  81. Rick Perry/Jeb Bush 2012! Says:

Rombots never debate, they only attack anyone who dares not join their hardcore cult, plus they childishly steal others identities when they are cornered in any discusion.

  82. Bloodshy Says:

I’m convinced Pinocchio/Bush gets on various IPs and fakes as though people are trying to steal his ID. Or, perhaps it’s a semi-split personality. Even under normal circumstances the guy argues w/himself in a way few would be capable.

  83. thetruth Says:

    81

Keep drinking that Ricky cottontail Kool-aide till someone else comes along.

nobody wants to join the perrywonckle cult, the church for losers.

  84. Bloodshy Says:

    81. “Rombots never debate, they only attack anyone who dares not join their hardcore cult…”

    LOL

Coming from the biggest champion of deflection & misdirection of the blogosphere. Whenever anyone hits you with real data you ignore, deflect, change the argument or post massive spam. Pot, here’s kettle…

  85. Rick Perry/Jeb Bush 2012! Says:

I only debate with links to facts. Period.

Rombots should try that instead of constantly spewing personal attacks on anyone who questions their cultish behavior when they refuse to debate.

  86. thetruth Says:

    85

Links to Perry’s web site are NOT facts. Perry is only second to you in being a liar.

  87. Firecracker (Romney/West) Says:

85 — The only person that is showing cultish behavior on this blog is you Craig. You REFUSE to see the reality about Perry. He’s a crook, a liar and a myth.

  88. Rick Perry/Jeb Bush 2012! Says:

All links to Perry’s sites have further links IN them.

  89. Rick Perry/Jeb Bush 2012! Says:

    87,

You just proved my point in your silly post. THAT’S exactly how cult members act by lashing out to nonmembers like me and Perry with wild hyperbole/personal insults.

  90. Bloodshy Says:

    88. “All links to Perry’s sites have further links IN them.”

Link to the links then. No one is going to waste their time sorting through Perry’s lies to search out a credible source.

    85. “I only debate with links to facts. Period.”

OK, how about you debate your candidates lying attacks? You know, the ones he received Pinocchios for. And try to do more than say, “newspaper X is a liberal paper.” Make some effort to argue the substance of whether their critiques about Perry’s honesty were legitimate.

  91. Massachusetts Conservative Says:

Rick Perry IS a crook. No hyperbole here:

    http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/img/10-10/1003TEX_perryTechNEW.pdf

  92. Bloodshy Says:

    89. It’s not even funny anymore.

Between your bulk spamming all you do is lash out with personal attacks about people who disagree with you or about Romney directly. Just read your last 10 posts. By your own definition of a “cultist,” you are the most extreme cultist on this board.

    Your hypocrisy knows no bounds.

  93. thetruth Says:

    89

“THAT’S exactly how cult members act by lashing out to nonmembers like” Like the way you and Perry lash out at Romney????? Craig the cultist….has a ring of truth to it.

  94. Bloodshy Says:

See Craig, just as I predicted… when someone presents you with a substantive argument and requests a rebuttal, you (1) ignore, (2) deflect, (3) change the subject or (4) mass spam.

In this case you did (1), but added one element I hadn’t considered: disappeared.

  95. Jerald Says:

From what some of you folks are posting, appearently Baghdad/Shaughnessy Craig is spamming his lies and propaganda again.

I’ve found a pleasant surprise though.
Just skimming past Craig the Forked Tongued’s posts makes the threads amazingly tolerable.

    Give it a try :D

  96. Tony Says:

Craig should be banned from this forum.

  97. Jerald Says:

#73…..Thunder…..Doesn’t really matter…They are both fakes.

If we are lucky, they will get each other banned…

  98. Doug NYC GOP Says:

    #64:

    Penga Cabesa,

I am off today and when at work, I’m too busy to comment or play games with an immature, effete swish such as yourself.

Obviously Kavon is too busy to engage himself with your childish antics. But since I have previously corrsponded with him, he knows I have no involvement in what you falsely accuse me of.

So have fun lashing out blindly. It just re-enforces your image of a cry baby sissy boy.

  99. Doug NYC GOP Says:

    #96:

    I second the motion.

All those in favor say Aye!

    By Baghdad-Shaughnessy Craig

  101. Bobinator Says:

    Aye!

  102. mcon Says:

Sadly Kavon is too lenient with that imbecile. He has banned various over the top Rombot fanatics but people on the other side like Dotan and Craig for whichever loser today should have no place here. Craig because he is a troll.

  103. Bloodshy Says:

He should definitely be banned. If he brought anything at all to the table I’d say keep him, but all he does is spam and insult. He never deals with substance.

  104. Doug NYC GOP Says:

Prancing Perry bombs in Atlanta today. He tried to attack Romney but didn’t know is audience.

    Fool.

    http://blogs.ajc.com/kyle-wingfield/2011/09/30/rick-perry-fizzles-bernie-marcus-sizzles-at-atlanta-event/

  105. Massachusetts Conservative Says:

    Aye!

Craig is a spammer and a troll. He ruins this site. Some people come here LESS because Craig exists.

  106. Doug NYC GOP Says:

Bad for Perry mounting in Iowa:

    http://thehill.com/blogs/ballot-box/gop-presidential-primary/184715-gop-kingmakers-in-iowa-support-for-perry-is-weakening

Iowa is ripe for Romney to make a last minute play for. There are a few debates in Iowa just before caucus time and if he can finish on top or thisclose, he’ll be well on his way.

Many of us Romney supporters believe there has been a semi-secret Iowa option in the Romney Playbook and if the field remains soft = it could be the play of the game.

  107. Rick Perry/Jeb Bush 2012! Says:

Wow, what a bunch of cowardly whiners.

This Christie thing getting to you much?

  108. Massachusetts Conservative Says:

    107

It has nothing to do with Christie, and everything to do with you being an annoying, brainless, pathetic troll.

  109. Tony Says:

    106.

I would not be at all surprised if Romney took Iowa.

I cannot see Iowa going to Perry or Bachmann, the two earlier favorites.

  110. Doug NYC GOP Says:

#108: Ditto – but he’s either to obtuse to get it or he is a perverse masochist who likes to be publically humiliated.

A lame loser in either case.

  111. Jerald Says:

    #107…Craig….What do you expect?

You make purposely pissing people off part of your daily entertainment,

You’ll spin anything, party truth, out of context stuff, bold face lies, drunken fantasies to badmouth whoever you are not currently supporting.

You then turn around and roundly chastize less offenders for doing only minimally what you are doing all the time, every day, on every thread.

You give the concept of double standard a whole new meaning.

You clutter up every thread with non-stop repeat robo spamming that almost never adds to the thread conversation.

On top of all that, you still manage to maintain a holier than thou attitude.

And nobody believes you have a mental disability, so everyone is convinced you do it on purpose, thus casting yourself as a troll.

    YOU.COULD.CHANGE.ALL.THAT.IF.YOU.WANTED.TO…

We are a rather forgiving bunch…

  112. Still Hurting Says:

    Sybil,

Quit spamming on Craig’s account. It is giving him a bad reputation and diminishing the high respect he would otherwise enjoy.

  113. Jerald Says:

    Doug NYC GOP

Doug, thanks for all the posts and links.

I realize Baghdad Craig is paranoid about you, but it’s not you Doug, it’s the facts and truth that have him scared ;)

Keep up the good work :D

  114. Tony Says:

I am banning Craig from this forum. He can no longer officially post here.

  115. zeek Says:

111# That was the most kind yet candid advice that “craig for …” could have gotten. Well done, hopefully “Craig for..” can take the advice and do his plethora of potential prospects a favor.

  116. Teemu Says:

Hispanics actually don’t seem to have similar views of immigration as the advocacy groups claiming to represent them. It isn’t that surprising, you don’t have to be Einstein to realize that USA can’t take take every one of those billion people wanting to come in.

    http://cis.org/Minority-Views-Immigration

In contrast to the leadership of many ethnic advocacy groups, most members of minority groups think immigration is too high.

Hispanics: 56 percent said it is too high; 7 percent said too low; 14 percent just right.

Most members of minority groups do not feel that illegal immigration is caused by limits on legal immigration as many ethnic advocacy groups argue; instead, members feel it’s due to a lack of enforcement.

Hispanics: Just 20 percent said illegal immigration was caused by not letting in enough legal immigrants; 61 percent said inadequate enforcement.

When asked to choose between enforcement that would cause illegal immigrants in the country to go home or offering them a pathway to citizenship with conditions, most members of minority groups choose enforcement.

Hispanics: 52 percent support enforcement to encourage illegals to go home; 34 percent support conditional legalization.

In addition about one third of Hispanics thought that immigration was good for America overall, one third thought it was bad, one third thought no real difference.

  117. Teemu Says:

Republicans should concentrate more on advertising what their policies could give to Hispanics, most would probably love school vouchers or charter schools, and other policies, rather than dancing and apologizing around the immigration.

  118. Rick Perry/Jeb Bush 2012! Says:

    117.

I totally agree. Smearing our Hispanic brothers and sisters and their children’s heritage with over the top ads lie the above will never work. But SADLY, Romney’s just too dumb to know that.

  119. Rick Perry/Jeb Bush 2012! Says:
