On the day that Michelle Bachmann and her campaign rollout is getting all the attention, Tim Pawlenty is making it clear he’s not going down without a fight. This morning, his campaign unveiled the endorsements of ten Iowa legislators:
- Rep. Erik Helland, Majority Whip
- Sen. Randy Feenstra
- Rep. Linda Miller
- Rep. Steve Lukan
- Rep. Chris Hagenow, Chairman of the House Committee on Government Oversight
- Rep. Matt Windschitl
- Sen. Rob Bacon
- Sen. Shawn Hamerlinck
- Rep. Chip Baltimore
- Rep. Joel Fry
In terms of organization and party support, Pawlenty is simply running circles around Bachmann (and every other candidate) – which has to make his lack of support in the polls all that more frustrating.

I don’t know how much establishment endorsements are going to help this cycle. Aren’t people kind of upset with the establishment? Showing everyone that you are the pick of the establishment might be counterproductive.
June 27th, 2011 at 1:15 pm
Unless the endorsement is from someone widely known and widely loved … which is rarely the case with state politicians.
June 27th, 2011 at 1:23 pm
Everyone knows that no one cares about endorsements.
June 27th, 2011 at 1:27 pm
3 – I disagree to some extent. If someone like Sarah Palin were to endorse someone like Tim Pawlenty, that would have an impact. If she were to endorse Romney it would have an even bigger impact. But I agree that when a big name endorses someone that lines up pretty well with her normal base, there won’t be a big impact at all.

O good, its Tim Pawlenty all the time now… Pawlenty is now a third tier candidate and should be treated as so. He is now scrambling to repair his poor performance the last couple of months.

Wait for it…
Wait for it…
I will let Smack have the punchline…

speaking of bachmann, since no one cares about Tiny Tim, I just saw some of here crazier moments:

5 – It is pretty amazing how much coverage Pawlenty gets here. I think it is because of the amazing failure his campaign has seemed to be. I think it is time to move on though. Let’s talk about the real players until Pawlenty proves he is one of them again.

Maybe the TPawns are going for the shock and awe concept and when they are called for the various polls they decide to not answer or answer on behalf of another candidate so that it will look even more amazing when he attains #s that were unexpected………… I’m stretching for ya Smack. Can’t figure out why no numbers make any sense for TPAW and his TPawns right now.

local endorsements help when it comes to GOTV operations, especially in a caucus state. Having local officials on board is key.
What’s clear is that Romney’s decision to bypass Iowa will force those trying to be the anti-Romney to turn on each other soon, namely Bachmann and T-Paw.

Fry and Bacon FTW
June 27th, 2011 at 1:56 pm
I don’t understand what people want to see in the T-Bored candidacy but whatever it is it isn’t there.

I’d say that Crist’s endorsement of McCain was the clincher last time around.
Rather maddening that a weasel like Crist may have cemented a sure loser for the Republican nomination.
June 27th, 2011 at 2:18 pm
Once again, it’s left up to me to explain what is happening.
The story is no so much who is endorsing TPAW…the story is who is not endorsing Bachmann.
The GOP establishment in MN and in IA are all for TPAW.
Jaxemer11 raises a good point……will having the establishment really help TPAW?…Will see.
But having establishment support in AMES is really going to help TPAW in the straw poll. These IA reps do have the all important “lists” of names that will help get people out to vote for TPAW in the straw poll and caucus.
But again, I repeat…..Bachmann is not getting any establishment help (except for Steve King)and she has much work to do in the her grass-root effort..because she is behind on orgainizational help.
If the establishment support was split maybe it wouldn’t help TPAW so much…but he is getting 90% of it…so look out.
Another Bob,
For your finger tips to God’s reading glasses…..
…wait for it…….
….wait for it……….
TPAW SURGE!!!!!!

Tim and the Pips
What a show!
In other news, Bachmann steps in it again:
http://www.washingtontimes.com/blog/inside-politics/2011/jun/27/the-wrong-john-wayne/
in one interview surrounding the official event she promised to mimic the spirit of Waterloo’s own John Wayne.
Waterloo’s John Wayne was not the beloved movie star, but rather John Wayne Gacy, the serial killer.
June 27th, 2011 at 2:26 pm
tele,
John Wayne parents were from Waterloo…but John Wayne (the actor) never was.
Bachmann does not really drill down to the details of anything she reads or hears about.
She speaks often without knowing what the hell she is really talking about.
If she can get through this week without another 2 more gaffes I would be shocked.
Michele Bachmann is my Congresswoman…..geeeze…….I need a drink.
June 27th, 2011 at 2:30 pm
So much for her ‘authentic’ Iowan roots.
EVERYBODY in Iowa knows Winterset was the boyhood home of Marion Morrison (John Wayne.)
I knew John Wayne Gacy had lived in Waterloo but wasn’t sure when, I thought it was as a young adult.
Creepy.
June 27th, 2011 at 2:39 pm
teledude,
Please get Palin in this race…..I’m so sick and tired of hearing people say that Bachmann is >>>> over Palin.
Palin has been a Mayor and a GOV…………Bachmann has her name on exactly ZERO legislation in the US Congress.
Bachmann is a show horse..not a workhorse.
Of course I will support TPAW over Palin..but if Palin gets in I would love to see Bachmann melt.
Bachmann thought Waterloo was the hometown of John Wayne…hhhuuuummmmmmmm.
What a shocker…Bachmann screws it up.
What a joke.
Hey, Dick……Dick Morris…you watching this?…..moron.

Now . . . if they would only call these legislator’s houses when they’re polling Iowa, eh?
