Netroots Nation Attendees Fear Romney the Most

A poll was taken of the attendees to last week’s Netroots Nation convention. The results are quite interesting. Here are a handful of them:

Please indicate if you approve or disapprove of the way Barack Obama is handling his job as
president?

  • Strongly Approve – 27
  • Somewhat Approve – 53
  • Somewhat Disapprove – 13
  • Strongly Disapprove – 7
  • Total Approve – 80
  • Total Disapprove – 20

Now please read the list below and indicate which ONE you think should be the TOP priority for
President Obama:

  • Job Growth – 66
  • Protect Health Care – 9
  • Bank Regulation – 6
  • Finish the military mission in Afghanistan – 4
  • Greenhouse Gas Regulation – 4
  • Immigration Reform – 3
  • Reduce Deficit – 1
  • Other – 7

Which of the following people would you MOST like to see as the Republican nominee for president
in 2012?

  • Palin – 32
  • Bachmann – 27
  • Paul – 12
  • Romney – 11
  • Santorum – 6
  • Gingrich – 5
  • Pawlenty – 3
  • Ryan – 2
  • Christie  – 2

Which of the following people would you LEAST like to see as the Republican nominee for president
in 2012?

  • Romney – 39
  • Palin – 14
  • Christie – 12
  • Bachman – 12
  • Pawlenty – 7
  • Paul – 5
  • Santorum – 4
  • Ryan – 4
  • Gingrich – 3

And who do you believe the GOP will nominate for President?

  • Romney – 72
  • Pawlenty – 12
  • Bachmann – 8
  • Christie – 3
  • Palin – 2
  • Santorum – 1
  • Ryan – 1
  • Gingrich – 0
  • Paul – 0

First, remember that this is a straw poll. You must take it with a grain of salt. Second, note that they did not include Perry, Huntsman, Giuliani, or Cain in this poll.

That being said, it is an interesting glimpse into the minds of the hard-core activist left. Note how their concerns over job growth coincide with their fears of Romney becoming the Republican nominee. They are sensing that time is running out on the Obama administration. He has got to turn the unemployment figures around, or his reelection chances will be slim to none.

(h/t CF. Thanks)

  1. Jack Bauer's Dad Says:

Guess they’ve got something in common with Deroy Murdock,

  2. marK Says:

They’ve also got a great deal in common with a few Palin supporters I could mention. They most want to see Palin as the nominee. They least want to see Romney the nominee.

  3. Deg Says:

#2 I wonder why? – You know, I’ve noticed warm up a lot to Romney lately. There are only so many people against Romney these days… I think I can count them with my hands. Adam X, Tex, Teledude, Smack… am I missing anyone?

  4. Massachusetts Conservative Says:

Lol, let’s see TEX try to respond to this one. ;)

  5. MarqueG Says:

    4. *raises hand*

    Hi there! :^)

  6. MarqueG Says:

    3. *corrects finger fumble on #4*

    Hi there! :^)

  7. rightgal Says:

    4. Of course, it was a ‘liberal’ poll!

  8. Another Bob Says:

Note: The following questions are not slams on Romney or any other candidate. They are just hypothetical questions.

    Q. Why should we care who the Liberals fear most?
    A. We shouldn’t.

    Q. Why should we take the advice of a group that gives 80% total support to Obama?
    A. We shouldn’t

    Q. Why are my liberal friends hoping the Republicans nominate a moderate.
    A. Probably because they are pretty sure that a Liberal vs. Moderate General Election will keep the Elephants at home.

    Q. But Another Bob, why not choose a Moderate Republican who will be loved by the MSM?
    A. Because the MSM will love Obama the most regardless.

    Q. But what if we nominate someone who is unabashedly conservative?
    A. Google 1984 Electoral College.

  9. Adam X (Run Rick Run!) Says:

Well – I bet you if you asked this group which candidate they would have “feared” the most in 2007 it would have been McCain – because he was viewed as the most electable.

    Except that he wasn’t.

  10. Jaxemer11 Says:

3 – You’re forgetting MWS too. There are a few other Palinites that hate Romney, but they don’t matter much.

  11. Bobinator Says:

8, Your liberal friends are hoping we nominate Palin, not Romney.

Regardless of what anyone thinks, it is about electability. We can nominate the “perfect” Republican, but if that person does not have any crossover appeal, we are doomed. We really need to evaluate the candidates by two criteria:
    1) Which candidates are electable in the general election? All others should be eliminated from consideration. Period. End of discussion.
    2) of these, who do we align the most closely with?
We will disagree on the answers to these questions, but each of us should be asking them.

  12. Steven S Says:

    1984: http://www.ropercenter.uconn.edu/elections/how_groups_voted/voted_84.html

    2008: http://www.ropercenter.uconn.edu/elections/how_groups_voted/voted_08.html

Demographics have changed since 1984. Whites made up 86% in 1984, only 74% in 2008. Going down every presidential election a point or 2. Republicans are in trouble if they don’t start appealing to other groups.

  13. Deg Says:

#10 Yeah, I remembered Matt MWS after I hit the submit comment button. It would be great to have an edit. Apparently MarqueG wants to be included amongst the Mitt-hatters, but he is going to have to work a lot harder to earn that title.

  14. Another Bob Says:

#11 Do you know my liberal friends? Didn’t think so.

  15. Another Bob Says:

#11 Sorry if that sounded harsh – no offense meant. I agree with the rest of your post.

  16. Greg Says:

IN 2007, the liberals also feared Romney the most. They rather liked the idea of McCain being our nominee.

  17. TEX Says:

    Rombots,

So many of you are afflicted by severe case of PDS and you suffer in pain
    and psychotic mental anguish.

I don’t hate Mitt the man, there is not much there to like or hate,
although I would never look forward to spend any time with him.The man is boring to tears, square and without any personality.

Willard the politician?I’m sure you don’t want to hear how I really feel.
It’s much worse than you think.

  18. TEX Says:

    Libs love Willard Rockefeller Romney.

He’s Obama Lite to begin with.So many similarities between the two,
there is a rumor Obama will take Willard for his VP in 2012.

    They would make good pair.

  19. Adam X (Run Rick Run!) Says:

    Willard Rockefeller Romney

    Haha. I like that.

  20. Damarcus Says:

This just proves that PALIN is the only candidate with crossover appeal. She CAN, and WILL, beat Obama in 2012. The only question is whether Obama will be able to win more than 100 electoral votes.

  21. Doug NYC GOP Says:

Congrats to the Palin Camp for FINALLY winning a poll and having respondents who WANT you in the race.

  22. Fredrick (Romney/West) Says:

    No. 20 = COMPLETELY DELUSIONAL

Palin has almost NO crossover appeal.

I hear from almost everyone of my left leaning independant friends say that Romney is the ONLY Republican candidate that they would vote for. Any questions about Palin results in complete laughter and scorn.

  23. Spenza Says:

Is this an indication of the sexism of the Left?

Which of the following people would you MOST like to see as the Republican nominee for president
    in 2012?
    Palin – 32
    Bachmann – 27
    Paul – 12
    Romney – 11
    Santorum – 6
    Gingrich – 5
    Pawlenty – 3
    Ryan – 2
    Christie  – 2

  24. Spenza Says:

#2. Mark, for those on the left, this is strategic. For those in the Palin camp (TEX, Teledude)….not so much.

  25. Spenza Says:

After Bachman knocks Pawlent out of Iowa Smackdadd has vowed to join the Rombots, so that leaves 3 left in the hate Romney camp.

  26. Shane Says:

    #25 Spenza,

You’re not suggesting that anyone who simply happens to support another candidate “hates Romney,” are you? I don’t think Smack hates Romney; I just think he supports Pawlenty. And yes, there ARE people who detest Romney – I’m not suggesting otherwise – I’m only stating that there is a BIG difference between hating a particular candidate and simply supporting someone else.

  27. TEX Says:

Willard the man is a big boooooring blah with no personality.
There is nothing to like, nothing to hate!

    Willard the politician?
Oh,don’t start me…..You don’t want to hear what I really think!

  28. Bobinator Says:

Tex the broken record… I disagreed with #17, but you know, you have me convinced with #27.

I would love to spend a weekend with Mitt. I bet I would come away smarter and uplifted. After a week with Palin I may have a freezer full of salmon, but that’s about it.

Tex thinks anyone not named Palin is a RINO. If Mitt was such a RINO, the nutroots gang would love to see him as our nominee, it would be a win-win for them. The reason they want Palin as our nominee is because they know she will get her head handed to her, and they will be laughing at you Palin supporters all the way to the inaguration.

I hate to talk this way about Palin because I really like her. She really needs to get in or get out, but this trolling is getting old and stale.

  29. Spenza Says:

#26 “You’re not suggesting that anyone who simply happens to support another candidate “hates Romney,” are you?” Of course not.

“I’m only stating that there is a BIG difference between hating a particular candidate and simply supporting someone else.” Obviously.

Smack is a Romney hater unless there is someone else who poses a bigger threat to his candidate at this point, which happens to be Bachman. Smack is an emotional supporter. Emotions create bad judgment in politics. Smack has very hatefully, at times, attacked Romney because Romney was the one who stood in the way of his candidate. Now Bachman stands in the way of him winning Iowa.

These are the voters we should be most concerned about in the GOP. We need logical and objective thinkers, not emotional thinkers.

  30. Anthony Dalke Says:

Two takeaways I haven’t seen discussed yet:

    1. This appears to disprove the theory, touted most prominently by Rush and ardent Palinistas, that liberals fear Sarah Palin. In all honesty, why would they so clearly want to run against her if they fear her? I highly doubt they’ve all agreed on some kind of mass conspiracy to drive the GOP to assume reverse psychology and nominate her.

    2. This pretty clearly shows that liberals just don’t get it when it comes to the deficit.

  31. Spenza Says:

    #26

By the way, TEX (27) is a true example of a Romney hatr. There’s something pretty pathetic about an individual that feels that the only way they can help their candidate is by defacing her opponent. The for people, rather than the against people, are not classified as haters. Haters are ALWAYS against.

  32. TEX Says:

    Rombots,

You’re always good for a laugh.

You never refudiate when I say that Romney was very mediocre governor.
Or tell us one,JUST ONE STAND OUT,MEMORABLE SUCCESS as governor without
telling us regular, mundane things all governors battle and struggle with.

You don’t respond because Romney never had stand out success as governor,NONE.He’s “mr mediocrity”.

Sarah Palin had several outstanding, ass kicking accomplishments in Alaska
something no other governors achieved, anywhere at any time.

  33. JRogers Says:

32 – Has anyone been counting how many times Tex has copied and pasted this particular post? Must be up to a couple hundred, at least. And Tex, it’s been answered ad nauseum already. We can’t help it if are incapable or unwilling to understand basic logic and facts.

  34. Shane Says:

    #31 – Spenza,

Fair point. I don’t see TEX voting for Romney any time soon (or ever). I’ve seen Smack write some positive things about Romney in the past, however. If I was a big T-Paw supporter, I’d probably want Romney to fail in getting the nomination, too. [Not that anyone cares or that it matters, but I still don't have a dog in this race...yet]. Smack seems to get a little emotional when he hits the bottle. I think the solution is no more beer unless/until Pawlenty wins Ames. :)

  35. Bobinator Says:

Tex, I will humor you with this one and only one response. Mitt had an overwhelming liberal democratic legislature to deal with. Of his 800 vetos, 740 were overturned. That is a good illustration of the circumstances of his time in office. Against that he was able to balance the budget and turn a $3B defecit into an appx $1B surplus in four years. Now, I am not going to say anything negative about Palin as Gov, but she didn’t have anything close to that dynamic while in office.

Now, please stop being so hateful and talk up your gal without tearing down everyone else. You are such a boor.

  36. TEX Says:

    33

    No,it was never answered.

You Rombots can not answer because the only “stand out” anything Romney has done as governor was the great boondoggle and albatross around his
neck RomneyCare, the blueprint, the grand daddy of ObamaCare.

I’ll keep prodding you.Not to be able to name one single stand out Willard’s success as governor must drive you nuts, which you richly deserve.

  37. Spenza Says:

TEX, I’ve seen many comments proving Romney was an outstanding Governor, as well as posted some myself, however, I’m not willing to become an insane person by doing the same thing over while expecting different results. The ball is in you court, but I’m afraid you’re not capable of honest assessment.

  38. TEX Says:

    35

    Ha,ha,ha…

You’re talking run of the mill crap every governor goes through.
Balancing the state budget is required by law.

Romney did it by raising fees=taxes, nothing different what other governors do.

Not Sarah Palin.Instead spending money, she cut Alaska budget by 9.9% in real dollars and the bureaucracy the same amount. She left Alaska treasury with $10 billions surplus.

No other governor has done it,not even close.

Romney is proponent of Big Goverment. The day of his announcement in N.H.
he said that as president he would reduce the rate of government growth.

He would never, ever cut the hideous government monster.

Sarah Palin would slash the budget and bureaucracy the first day in office.

  39. Spenza Says:

I think what you are doing is trying to exhaust us by wasting our time and energy on you. You’re not worth bud. Romney could save the entire World from a Nuclear war and you’d find some way to give Palin the credit. I would advise all other Rombots to stop wasting precious time and energy trying to crack through your thick scull and focus on more productive activities.

  40. Spenza Says:

    #38

    I rest my case.

  41. Spenza Says:

    #34

    Good points Shane.

  42. Jack Says:

  43. zeek Says:

    Spenza well said.

Good luck to Sarah… get in or get out!

  44. Jaxemer11 Says:

Just ignore TEX. He isn’t worth responding to. I don’t even read his posts anymore.

  45. rightgal Says:

ah Spendza. We consider Tex and his buddys to be cheap entertainment!

  46. Spenza Says:

    #45

That’s the only sane way to consider it :)
