T-Pawers can breathe a huge sigh of relief:
Texas Gov. Rick Perry will resist the pull to get into the White House race, he said again on Wednesday.
“I can’t say I’m not tempted, but the fact is, this isn’t something that I want to do,” Perry said.
Perry’s comments came during a fly-over tour of the Texas-Mexico border with Fox News host Greta van Susteren.
In the interview, the staunchly anti-Washington governor strongly criticized the border fence currently under construction, saying the federal government is failing to keep people safe.
But instead of running for president, Perry said he had to focus on Texas legislative session and that he hoped “that person will come forward that can win the presidency that we can all get behind.”
The search for the “white knight” is drawing to a close. Not sure how many times Christie, Jeb, Ryan, and Perry can say no before folks start believing them. Now focus can shift to McCotter and Giuliani for a while, I suppose.

Well then don’t run, but make Texas nice.
May 27th, 2011 at 8:35 am
It could also be the writing on the wall is that Romney is the best for the job, and folks like Perry, Christy, etc are smart enough to know that.
May 27th, 2011 at 8:42 am
Indeed, Rightgal. The singular motivating factor in all of our decision making is a somber reflection on the totality of Mitt’s awesomeness.
May 27th, 2011 at 8:45 am
This T-Pawer is relieved. Not so much because of what Perry could have done in Iowa, which I don’t think could have been much, but what Perry could have done in South Carolina.
South Carolina is where TPAW’s next win will be after a Iowa victory and a strong second place showing in the Granite State.
So yes…just another indication of the..
…wait for it..
……wait for it…….
TPAW SURGE!!!
May 27th, 2011 at 8:48 am
Smack – Perry was never a threat to TPaw. He would never have survived to SC to make it a race. TPaw’s biggest obstacle to gaining traction will be first trying to hold off Bachmann in Iowa. I think that is no more than a 50/50 proposition.
May 27th, 2011 at 8:49 am
Matt, you poor fellow. Still can’t handle the idea that somwe people actually believe Romney is the right guy? You’re in for a long campaign, buddy.
May 27th, 2011 at 8:53 am
This isn’t accurate at all. I watched the entire interview and this article leaves out portions of the interview. He made the statement in a way that had a huge “but” afterwards. Having watched Perry thoughout this process, this was the most open he has seemed to running. His body language made clear that he was going to finish this legislative session like he has repeatedly said and then he is really going to consider getting in.
May 27th, 2011 at 8:55 am
Lol this is days old.
Rick is running – anyone who saw the whole Greta interview was left in no doubt.
May 27th, 2011 at 8:55 am
If Perry gets in it’s bad news for every candidate. The states he will do very well in are on or before Super Tuesday and carry a ton of delegates.
May 27th, 2011 at 8:55 am
SteveT,
For many people your statement rings true. But for me, a guy who lives in the 6th district of MN and has Bachmann as my congresswoman…well…how do I say this….Bachmann won’t last.
Will Bachmann be ahead of TPAW in the next round of Iowa polls?…yes.
But Bachmann has a ceiling which she will hit soon and TPAW will go past her in Iowa.
Just take a look at the roll out Bachmann had in Iowa yesterday in Polk County, the Iowa papers are calling it a debacle.
No worries on Bachmann…but Perry would have been a hurdle in SC.

#8 – Exactly…I read this article days ago when it came out and it was a gross misinterpretation.
May 27th, 2011 at 8:57 am
Exactly Newbie.
In other words Rick is starting to actively and seriously consider getting in from next week.
He has months to decide – however the smart money for Rick (& Sarah for that matter) is on or around July 4. Bet on it.
May 27th, 2011 at 8:58 am
Martha,
“Still can’t handle the idea that somwe people actually believe Romney is the right guy?”
Of course I can. I just find it amusing when Rombots assume everyone else (who’s smart) believes Romney is the right guy.
That’s part of what makes a Rombot, a Rombot. And that’s why we love ‘em.

MWS: Why, just this morning as I was making breakfast, I was contemplating the impact my decisions would have on the campaign of Willard Milton Romney. Now don’t go and tell me that not everyone does that!
May 27th, 2011 at 9:00 am
Heath,
I really don’t think a relatively unknown politician like Perry with no national following (and apparently, not much of a home state following either) “has months to decide.”
May 27th, 2011 at 9:03 am
Marque,
Are you wearing your WWMD bracelet? It’s the first thing I put on every morning, and the last thing I take off at night! On the way into work, it came in handy. I had to ask myself, “Would Mitt speed up a bit to get through the yellow light?”
May 27th, 2011 at 9:05 am
I find it curious..
Almost every name that has been floated has stated they ‘don’t want the job.’ ‘Will not run. ‘ have no interest.’ etc etc.
yet people still believe they may run, they hope they do, they think they can persuade them somehow…
and the one candidate who is polling near the top, who says they do ‘have the fire in the belly’ they do ‘want to restore this country’ whose number one stated goal is to ‘defeat Obama in 2012.’…this person is dismissed as not serious. Not running. blah blah blah.
It’s curious.

The funny thing was the awesome blog GOP12 titled the same interview ”
“Rick Perry ‘tempted’ to run”!
How about people actually view the interview and make up their own minds.
The video in here:
http://gop12.thehill.com/2011/05/rick-perry-tempted-to-run.html
The only thing that will stop James Perry getting in is if Palin gets in early and steals his thunder. But I’m hearing that Sarah has told Fox that she is months away from deciding.

#17:
How much more ridiculous is pinning your hopes on a governor who advocates putting social issues on the backburner and whose wife is absolutely terrified of Alinsky tactics being used against her?
A great recipe for success, don’t you think?
May 27th, 2011 at 9:14 am
#18:
Palin was months away from deciding in the early part of spring. That is not the case now.
May 27th, 2011 at 9:15 am
I hear Tim Pawlenty almost broke his arm this morning.
The tragic event happened on a segment of Fox and Friends when he was being interviewed by Molly Line.
She didn’t bring it up, but apparently he was attempting to pat himself on the back for his heroic action yesterday.
What heroic action?
He tweeted a joke about Obama.
Now Palin has made news sometimes with her Tweets…but I have NEVER heard her mention them or speak about them. This guys is trying TOO hard.
I guess his arm is okay though.
May 27th, 2011 at 9:19 am
#3…..Matt
It took awhile, but you are finally getting it
May 27th, 2011 at 9:20 am
I would have no problem voting for T-Paw if he were the nominee, the only problem is that he suffers from Romney ’08…minus the personal wealth – he has no true base of support…he flirts with every group but not one has taken a stance behind him…sure things might change…there’s a whole campaign ahead of us…but if Palin gets in…he’s finished…before he really got started.
May 27th, 2011 at 9:22 am
Palin could theoretically spend the entire summer touring the country (campaigning?) without announcing until after Labor Day.
She has found a way to dominate the news cycle once again. Face it, this campaign is going to be all Palin all the time, you’re NOT going to be able to escape it.
People will see her campaigning hard, yet unannounced, and their speculation will grow. She’s using the oldest trick in the book…make them wait for it.
The political strip tease. Brilliant!

#16 Matt
By the way, were did you get your WWMD braclet?
I want to get one for Telly
May 27th, 2011 at 9:27 am
24 – I assume she will want to be in the Ames Straw Poll…she probably will announce on the 4th of July, if not sooner. An announcement by her will force other people’s hands. They will get in or get out or not consider due to her being in the race. For people like T-Paw it will force him to spend a crap load of his money, early on…leaving little for later.
May 27th, 2011 at 9:31 am
25. I already know what Mitt would do…I don’t need one.
(Tie his dog on the roof, take a poll and change his deeply held convictions. again)
May 27th, 2011 at 9:32 am
Teledude is for Romney too? Welcome aboard!
May 27th, 2011 at 9:51 am
Gzzt…..Greetings fellow Rombots….Gzzt…I have arrived to convert the followers of Palin Prime…Gzzt….Pawlenty Prime….Gzzt….and Perry Prime….Gzzt…All will follow The Great Romney….Gzzt
May 27th, 2011 at 9:56 am
Jerald,
“By the way, were did you get your WWMD braclet?”
You collect 6 box tops of Waffleos cereal, and send in $1.99 into HQ.
May 27th, 2011 at 10:07 am
Gzzt….I love Waffleos……Gzzt….They make my circuits purr…..Gzzt…..The WWMD bracelet is standard issue for all Rombot Models…Gzzt…..It helps our core processors get through the current solar cycle…Gzzt
May 27th, 2011 at 10:09 am
Just because he doesn’t want to do it (which is probably not true) doesn’t mean he’s not going to do it. My guess is he jumps in along with a few other people, McCotter, Giuliani, maybe Palin.
May 27th, 2011 at 11:04 am
At last, MWS. you get it!
