Poll Watch: Suffolk University National GOP Primary

Sometime soon, we should be getting an actual, 100% post-Huck and Trump primary poll. Until then, here’s a poll done by Suffolk University that was mostly done prior to the two announcements, with results from before and after consolidated together into one mathematically massaged poll. It’s not great, but it’s a step better than Gallup re-releasing months-old numbers. Kind of:

Suffolk University National GOP Primary (PDF)

Before Huckabee and Trump dropped out

  • Mitt Romney – 17%
  • Mike Huckabee – 15%
  • Sarah Palin – 10%
  • Newt Gingrich – 9%
  • Rudy Giuliani – 6%
  • Donald Trump – 5%
  • Michele Bachmann – 4%
  • Mitch Daniels – 4%
  • Ron Paul – 4%
  • Herman Cain – 3%
  • Tim Pawlenty – 2%
  • Rick Santorum – 2%
  • Jon Huntsman – *
  • Gary Johnson – *
  • Buddy Roemer – *

Second Choice of Huckabee and Trump Supporters (asked only of those who answered “Huckabee” or “Trump” on the first question, after the two candidates dropped out)

  • Romney – 29%
  • Palin – 16%
  • Giuliani – 10%
  • Pawlenty – 8%
  • Santorum – 6%
  • Paul – 4%
  • Bachmann – 2%
  • Cain – 2%
  • Daniels – 2%
  • Gingrich – 2%
  • Huntsman – *
  • Johnson – *
  • Roemer – *

Final numbers (consolidated total of above two questions)

  • Romney – 20%
  • Palin – 12%
  • Gingrich – 9%
  • Huckabee – 8%
  • Giuliani – 7%
  • Paul – 5%
  • Bachmann – 4%
  • Cain – 4%
  • Daniels – 4%
  • Pawlenty – 3%
  • Santorum – 3%
  • Trump – 1%

Survey of 468 likely voters was conducted May 10-17, 2011.

For the life of me, I can’t figure out why they still included Huckabee and Trump in their final consolidated poll, or how they even arrived mathematically at those numbers… I guess the big take away from this poll would be that three out of ten Huck and Trump folks break for Romney, and roughly half of that number break for Palin. The rest of the candidates fight over the scraps.

UPDATE: General election matchups and favorability numbers are below the fold.

General Election Match-ups

  • Obama – 46%
  • Romney – 43%
  • Obama – 47%
  • Pawlenty – 31%
  • Obama – 50%
  • Bachmann – 30%
  • Obama – 52%
  • Gingrich – 38%
  • Obama – 48%
  • Daniels – 30%

Favorable/Unfavorable Ratings

  • Hillary Clinton – 59/33
  • Obama – 51/42

  • Santorum – 15/21
  • Bachmann – 20/28

    GO MITT!!!

    WOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. Smack1968 Says:

It looks like the 18 trips to New Hampshire is working out pretty good for Santorum.

Romney was at 35% in the last pol out of Suffolk..

  3. nate w Says:

waiting for the real thing, this is silly. How do you consolidate Huck from 15 to 8. Does that mean he drops out and 1/2 the people still vote for him anyway?

  4. Matt Coulter Says:

Smack, this is the first national poll Suffolk has done (that I could find). This is nationwide, not New Hampshire.

  5. Former Adolescent Says:

I will miss Huckabee if only that he could slap down these insufferable Mittards with his poll standings.

  6. Jon Huntsman for Obama Says:

    2

    Smack

This poll is “National GOP Primary”

    not “New Hampshire GOP Primary.”

    See?

  7. Matt Coulter Says:

And those numbers you copied and pasted were just asked of Huck and Trump supporters. It represents their second choice candidates.

  8. Matt Coulter Says:

#3 nate, I agree. No idea where these numbers came from.

Another example: if Huckabee + Trump = 20% of the votes, and Romney wins 30% of that 20% (roughly 6%), shouldn’t his “consolidated” number be 23%? (17 + 6)?

  9. CF Says:

    Pawlenty: 2%, 8% and 3%?

Ouch. This guy is getting ZERO traction.

  10. teledude Says:

    I’m confused.

Should we jump on the Romney bandwagon or not?

  11. CF Says:

Smack has to blatantly lie about the poll to make himself feel better. This is a national poll, Smack, not New Hampshire.

  12. CraigS Says:

    Interesting national marginals:

    Obama 46 Romney 43

    Obama 47 Pawlenty 31
    Obama 50 Bachman 30
    Obama 52 Gingrich 38
    Obama 48 daniels 30

    CraigS

  13. CF Says:

Who was it last week that said that Romney was finished because of the Judis “scandal”? Adam X or MWS?

“I’ve got news for you Rombots, if this Judis thing IS TRUE – your guy is finished. FINISHED.”

Hah! You can pull your foot out of your mouth and clean the egg off your face now.

  14. teledude Says:

When Obama said this I realized we were in real trouble.

“The era of small government is over . . . government has to be more proactive, more aggressive.”

    Oh wait, that wasn’t Obama…

  15. Rombot Says:

I want to see what happens in a poll without Palin. She is unlikely to run, and seems to get a big boost from Huck and Trump dropping out. Where does that support go?

  16. Smack1968 Says:

    Mitt Romney 29% – 35% (-6)
    Sarah Palin 16% – 07% (+9)
    Rudy Giuliani 10% – 08% (+2)
    Tim Pawlenty 08% – 05% (+3)
    Rick Santorum 06% – ** (+6)
    Ron Paul 04% – 08% (-4)
    Michele Bachman 02% – 03% (-1)
    Newt Gingrich 02% – 03% (-1)

Smack Grades with out reading the FAV/UNFAV

Romney = D – Horrible poll number for Mitt
    Palin = A+ – Best poll in “11″
    Giuliani = B+ – Still showing strength
Pawlenty = A – Another High Mark in state.
    Santorum = A+ – WOW!
Paul = F – Needs to go up in NH…not down
    Bachmann = C – Not her state
    Gingrich = F – No comment
    Cain = B – Good start.

  17. Alvin Says:

    12,

Good showing by Gov. Romney, but more indicative of the real truth behind these polls. High name ID for Romney and Palin and low name ID for the rest of them. It is a problem they will have to solve through smart campaigning and memorable debate performances, but that is what those numbers mean more than anything, And that has always been and remains my major doubt about a viable Palin. Everybody knows her

    CF,

As far as Pawlenty’s numbers, maybe they hurt more after the Ames straw poll. This is May, he still has plenty of time.

  18. Rombot Says:

13 – They would say that is because people don’t know about the Judis “scandal” yet. The problem for them is that no one will know about the Judis “scandal” because it isn’t a scandal.

  19. Smack1968 Says:

    OH DAMMITTT!!!

    This a National Poll!!

    Disregard my SMACK GRADES!!!

    AAUUUGHHHH!!

  20. teledude Says:

    I just can’t stop smiling.

  21. Dr J Says:

It will interesting to see how RCP does it’s average now. Do they drop Trump and Hucakbee completely or do they keep their numbers from the old polls and let them go to zero in this one?

  22. Alvin Says:

    16

The poll you are posting is a national poll. Paul dropped nationally, not in NH!

TPAW showing (very) subtle sings. Looking forward to the polls near the end of the week, I think they will give a better idea as to the landscape post Huck.

  23. marK Says:

I went to the original data. Their last table is bogus. They took the 2nd choice numbers from Huckabee and Trump supporters and spread them out accordingly — BUT THEY FORGOT TO DELETE THE ORIGINAL HUCKABEE AND TRUMP NUMBERS.

Here is what the last table looks like with the Huckabee and Trump numbers properly removed:

    Romney:…22
    Palin:….13
    Gingrich:.10
    Giuliani:.8
    Paul:…..5
    Bachmann:.4
    Daniels:..4
    Cain:…..4
    Pawlenty:.3
    Santorum:.3
    Roemer:…*
    Huntsman:.*
    Johnson:..*
    Undecided:.22

  24. Rombot Says:

16 – Smack? Are you an idiot? This isn’t a New Hampshire poll

  25. Rombot Says:

23 – What morons. No polls really matter right now, but these ones that are created out of thin air matter even less.

  26. marK Says:

    telly.20

I don’t blame you one bit. Sarah is once again squarely in double digits.

  27. Alvin Says:

    20,

Lol, indeed, the numerical percentage is not as important itself as is the trend, which indicates that Gov. Palin seems to benefit without Huck. I do hate that you have been saying that since Huck’s departure though :)

  28. TEX Says:

    Washington Examiner

TO MITT ROMNEY,BIG GOVERNMENT IS GOOD FOR BUSINESS
    —————————————-

“Romney’s willingness to subsidize business has likely helped his fundraising. The Washington Post reported last week:

The list of donors at Romney’s first presidential fundraiser, held April 12 at the Harvard Club of New York City, reads like a who’s who of the Wall Street elite, including Goldman Sachs bankers and independent financiers.”

Romney will win over many of the GOP’s moneymen, and plenty of independent donors, too. But on the grass-roots level, his corporatism will hurt.

The Wall Street bailout was a major catalyst of the Tea Party movement, which will be a powerful force in the GOP primaries. The Tea Party distrusts concentrations of power in both government and business. Romney represents both.

    =============================

    Rombots,

This long single article thoroughly explains that
Romney was and is participant and proponent of Big
Government in concert with Big crony Business.

    The man was never vetted.
    This time he will be.

  29. teledude Says:

I think we need a light hearted break from all this serious analyzation of these poll numbers.

Take a couple minutes to watch one of the greatest moments in TV history.

    http://www.videohippy.com/video/90645/Shatner-Reads-Palin–Palin-Reads-Shatner-Tonight-Show

  30. Dr J Says:

Smack’s not a liar, just makes mistakes. As we all know from looking at the candidates, nobody’s perfect.

  31. Jeff Fuller Says:

Not sure if anyone else mentioned it, but I’m sure they just included the totals of Huck and Trump where they were 2nd choice of other candidates . . . that’s pretty weird to do though.

    Go Mitt!

  32. marK Says:

    telly.20

In fact, Sarah is once again only trailing the leader by single digits. The argument could be made that Sarah is right now in the McCain position to Romney’s Giuliani’s.

Unfortunately that analogy falls down because four years ago McCain was working his tail off, and Giuliani might bestir himself now and again to make a speech here and there if he felt like it. This time around Romney is working more like McCain and Palin is working more like Giuliani.

  33. teledude Says:

    Romney = Crony Capitalism
    Obama = Crony Capitalism

    Romney = RomneyCare
    Obama = ObamaCare

    Coincidence?

    I think not!

  34. teledude Says:

    32. To paraphrase John Paul Jones

Palin has not yet begun to fight.

  35. Ben Says:

Can somebody define the difference between Crony Capitalism and the Capitalism that the conservative base supports?

  36. TEX Says:

Once the campaign starts,Sarah Palin will outwork and outperform
    everybody.

She’s the very best retail politician in America.
    By far the very best.

  37. Granny T Says:

I agree that how they came to their numbers without Huckabee and Trump just doesn’t make any sense. If Huckabee name is on a ballot I’m voting for him!!!

Also from going directly to the link for the poll results, Huckabee received 70 and Trump received 22 “of 468 likely Republican primary voters.” Romney received 15 votes out of the 51 people they reached that had voted for Huckabee & Trump in the first poll. What is the margin of error on a poll of 51 people?

For the record, the site says “undecided” received 20% of the “consolidated” polling. Doesn’t the high MoE and huge amount of undecided mean this race is still wide open? (Although I will admit that Romney is the clear front-runner now that Huckabee is out.) Is there a Secretariat or Soñador out there somewhere that will surprise people?

  38. CraigS Says:

    Tex
I find it amusing that you, and others, believe that a country with 315 MILLION people can be run with a small government. As if this were still 1803 and Jefferson’s government ran a nation of 3.5 million people the same way.Be serious. There are departments responsible for many times more people than the entire nation in 1803. Can and shoiuld government be more efficient and less wasteful ? You bet. Can it be smaller in size ? probably. Can it be a true small government ? No way

    CraigS

  39. Try Not To Snore When I Talk ZZZpaw Says:

Huckabee is not the only one with a “thin skin”.

    http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2011/05/18/boston-herald-tiff-white-house-months-old-romney-op-ed/

  40. Jon Huntsman for Obama Says:

TEX, if the Democrats wouldn’t lower taxes, it makes sense to invite companies to come in.

The Democrats repeatedly shot down his proposed tax cuts.

As president, I want Mitt to cut taxes. He will.

  41. asparagus Says:

Its pretty crappy to dump all over Romney because he can raise money. Anyone that runs against Obama is going to need a lot of money. This is a fact of life. Sarah Palin has raised a ton of money. None of us have ever insuated that she was selling her influence.

  42. Granny T Says:

    Matt,
I just noticed that you said “Survey of 1,070 likely voters was conducted May 10-17, 2011″ at the bottom of your post; but page 4 of the polling results says that 468 people made up 100% of those that answered about the GOP 2012 race. You might want to update your post.

  43. teledude Says:

    35. I can but it might take a while…

Perhaps you should read some Hayek or Rand. Von Mises and Rothbard would do you well.

    I’m guessing you’re a victim of the public schools…

It requires a basic understanding of free market principles.

Just go get a copy of Atlas Shrugged and you will gain something of great value. Knowledge.

  44. TEX Says:

    CraigS,

Go and tell your and Mitt’s love for Big (corrupt) Government to conservatives(not RINOs)and see what happens.

They will run you out of town on a rail, tarred and feathered.

  45. marK Says:

Tele.34:“Palin has not yet begun to fight.”

    No she hasn’t, has she.

Do you really, honestly think that some magical bell will ring and suddenly a person who has been pretty much passive for the last three years will suddenly turn into super-competitor?

It doesn’t work that way. That’s what Fred Thompson’s supporters kept saying all through 2007. It didn’t happen.

That’s what Rudy Giuliani supporters kept saying all through 2007. (If you don’t believe me, just ask Metro. He was one of them.) It didn’t happen.

Reluctant warriors tend to remain reluctant. It is just a fact of life.

Ed Rollins said it best. He said in effect, “The supporter can’t want it more than the candidate.” And from where I sit, the only people with fire-in-their-bellies for a Palin run are her supporters. She is showing very little of it.

  46. asparagus Says:

Where has Mitt ever said he was willing to subsidize big business? Wasn’t Palin just defending the Big Oil companies?

  47. Granny T Says:

    Ben,
I Googled part of your question at #35 and found this: Let’s Take the “Crony” Out of “Crony Capitalism”

What do others think about that article? Does it explain the difference correctly?

  48. asparagus Says:

The Bush administration redefined crony capitalism. Obama has taken it to a whole new level. To assume Romney will do the same because he is able to raise a lot of money is irresponsible.

  49. teledude Says:

    38. this is pure bullsh*t.

We don’t need no steenkin’ “Departments”

    What a load of crap.

Fact. Since the “Department” of Energy was established to reduce our dependence on foreign oil, we have spent hundreds of billions of dollars and we are now MORE dependent on foreign oil that we were in 1977 when Jimmy carter created it.

The “Department” of Education was also established in the 1970′s to help facilitate national education and improve test scores. They have dropped every year since it’s inception, despite spending hundreds of Billions of dollars.

Do you begin to see a pattern?

We have a huge bloated corpulent bureaucracy that wastes our resources and hinders our economy while limiting our freedom. The government is not our society. It is a weight that has gotten too big to bear.

You are a sadly misinformed, or brainwashed.

  50. TEX Says:

Sarah Palin raise money from millions of people who love and admire
    her,the grass-roots.

Mitt Romney, rich, cold, and distant, collects millions from “fat cats”
on Wall Street and Big Business.

Sarah Palin- Darling of the conservative masses

Mitt Romney- Darling of the “fat cats” Big Crony Capitalism

  51. teledude Says:

    45.

I pity such cluelessness. How do you function in society?

  52. teledude Says:

    46. “Wasn’t Palin just defending the Big Oil companies?”

    No she was not.

    You need to read this;

    http://www.amazon.com/Sarah-takes-Big-Oil-compelling/dp/0982163207/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1305743857&sr=8-1

Man, I have to educate everyone today.

  53. Ben Says:

    teledude –

thank you for your non-answer with the insulting follow up jab. That was most helpful – (heavy sarcasm included)

    Granny -

Thank you very much for the link. The only think about that article that causes me to question Stossel’s definition of Crony Capitalism is within:

It’s the economic system in which the marketplace is substantially shaped by a cozy relationship among government, BIG BUSINESS and big labor. Under crony capitalism, government bestows a variety of privileges that are simply unattainable in the free market, including import restrictions, bailouts, subsidies and loan guarantees.

I agree with everything in this paragraphe EXCEPT the concept of BIG BUSINESS -

Are you saying we need to limit the size that a business gets to? That does not seem to lend itself to free market and pure capitalism. Anything government related I can understand – but to hate on those that have attained wealth is class warfare at it’s worst. You can’t have it both ways.

  54. Granny T Says:

    #46,
What did Mitt mean when he was campaigning in Michigan?

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. — During a rally this afternoon before several hundred supporters at Lawrence Technological University in Southfield, Romney told the crowd that unlike policy makers who have ignored Michigan’s economic plight, he could help “build a brighter, prosperous future” here by championing the auto industry.

“Michigan is facing challenging times,” he said, wrapping up his speech with the declaration: “Washington is aware of it. Have they done anything? No! I will commit this to you: if I am president of the United States, I will not rest until Michigan is back.” The crowd burst into applause, and as rock music played, the candidate left the stage.

    http://voices.washingtonpost.com/44/2008/01/13/with_talk_of_cars_romney_court.html

  55. marK Says:

Tele.45:“I pity such cluelessness. How do you function in society?”

I do wonder that myself sometimes. But I have managed to survive somehow. Thanks for asking.

I am curious, however. What part of my #45 was “clueless”? Would you care to point it out and explain exactly why it’s clueless?

  56. Smack1968 Says:

Did Romney actually raise 10+ million dollars in one day for his campaign…or…did he just get $10 million in committments?

Can somebody please answer this question.

Is this a phony 10 million?

    …you know…just like everything…ok I won’t go there.

$10 million in committments or is it in the bank?

  57. TEX Says:

    Smack,

Whatever it is,it came from “Fat Cats”,Mitt’s friends bankers from
    corrupt Wall Street.

  58. marK Says:

    Granny,

Back in 2008, Romney championed steering some of the governmental research grants into research that would help the Auto Industry. He also opposed nanny-state regulations that were stifling the business. On top of that, he proposed drilling for more oil to bring down the cost of gasoline.

Then in 2009 when Obama wanted to use TARP money to bailout GM and Chrysler, Mitt insisted that it would be better for them to go through bankruptcy.

Beyond that, I couldn’t tell you what exactly Mitt meant.

  59. Smack1968 Says:

Because tele just called me and confirmed that 100 of his friends have committed $2,500 each to the TPAW campaign..so what is that.

    ..huuummmmm … $250,000!!

The TPAW campaign as raised a quarter of a million dollars thanks to tele and his cohorts..!!

That is just as real as this phony 10 million dollars.

Some of this 10 million dollars and ca also be “committed” in the next Romney money bomb!

    …what a racket!

Please, will some ROMBOT please tell me is this $10 million real or phony!!!

I bet they are afraid to answer this question…because..they lack of trust…in.their.own.candidate.

  60. Ben Says:

I know that at least $10 is in the bank Smack – as it came out of my account.

  61. Smack1968 Says:

    http://www.fox5vegas.com/news/27932744/detail.html

“He actually didn’t raise (that amount),” Paul said. “I think he got $10 million in commitment. When our chart runs on the (website) ticker, it means the money’s in the bank

The question in the 2012 GOP Nomination fight will be…

Is it real, or is it Romney?

  62. Granny T Says:

Thanks. Mark. I remember reading that article and several others – including MI articles. We were following Detroit pretty closely during union negotiations and I still had the sites bookmarked during the primary. But, when my computer crashed I lost my numerous bookmarks and most of you know an auto accident affected my memory skills.

  63. Jon Huntsman for Obama Says:

    54

So advocating right-to-work laws, tax cuts, less regulation, abolishing the NLRB, and making fair trade qualifies as “Crony Capitalism” and “Big government?”

Where is the insistence that he was going to nationalize GM?

    NOWHERE!

In fact, when that quote was made, the auto industry was not on the verge of collapse.

And when it DID collapse, Romney opposed the bailouts and takeovers.

  64. Smack1968 Says:

The Committment vs. Real money in the bank is important.

No doubt, Romney will raise big money, but many ROMBOTS compared Mitt’s money bomb vs. Ron Paul’s and that may not be what we should be doing.

Has the Romney campaign been clear on this matter?

  65. asparagus Says:

Sounds like you want Mitt to “Show you the money!”. Mitt Romney has a REAL record. He turns around everything he touches.

Tex, I am going to ignore anything you say from now on. I am tired of your childish bullet points.

Example of a typical TEX comment:

    TEX Says:
    Sarah is great.
Sarah was hatched from a Gold Egg and was born a perfect being.
Sarah loves real people and puppies.

    Romney is evil.
Romney is the spawn of Satan and is endorsed by evil establishment.
Romney loves bankers more than you.
    Romney hates puppies.

  66. Jon Huntsman for Obama Says:

    61

So you think you can just quote articles, and no one will read them?

That quote is from Ron Paul, making uninformed remarks about Mitt’s fundraiser.

No one cares what Ron Paul has to say about it.

  67. Jon Huntsman for Obama Says:

    65

I’ve never read a more accurate depiction in my life. Well-done.

Sometimes I think TEX is really Stephen Colbert.

  68. Smack1968 Says:

    Jon Huntsman,

Is Romney’s 10 million that he raised in the bank?

..or is it 10 million in committments?

A real money bomb has money going into the candidates account….to be used quickly if needed.

    I’m asking…….

Is this real, or is it Romney?

  69. Granny T Says:

I can see where Smack is coming from. Was it like a telethon where people pledge but don’t always come through or did everyone give online or telephone credit card type donations like Paul’s money bombs?

  70. Alvin Says:

“Is this real, or is it Romney?”

LOL! That is beautiful whether fair or not!

65, You almost got it, but you have to mention Gov. Palin as some kind of animal metaphor and repeat the words “squishy” and “RINO” over and over again :) I enjoy his/her comments though…

  71. asparagus Says:

Smack is this the best you can come up with? Next you are going to tell me that they really didn’t have Cindy Crawford do the video for Committ? That it was Rudy Giuliani in drag?

  72. asparagus Says:

70 I did say she was hatched from an egg.

  73. TEX Says:

    Hey Rombots,

You can’t refudiate what I say about Romney and his “fat cats” bankers
    friends,so you talk about me.

“If you don’t have facts, attack the witness.”

  74. Smack1968 Says:

    Granny Y,

    Thank you Granny..

Money Bombs are set up for quick infusion of cash.

Was this a telethon or money bomb?

    Big difference.

Was this $10 million all that impressive or not?

The question is not whether Romney will raise big money…the question is can the Romney campaign have a telethon, get $10 million in comittments, but then blur the lines in communication and have all you ROMBOTS believe this is a true moneybomb?

    I ask again..

Is it real, or is it a Romney?

  75. Jon Huntsman for Obama Says:

    Smack

    I honestly have no idea.

Was Ron Paul’s money bomb all pledges, or real money? No idea.

  76. asparagus Says:

    somebody’s jealous

  77. Smack1968 Says:

    asparagus,

Do you have an answer to my question?

Or are you so unsure of the reality of 10 million dollar money bomb without going out on a lib and getting it hacked off again for your man Mitt?

Is this $10 million dollars in the bank like a “real” money bomb….or is it a “Romney” money bomb?

  78. Ben Says:

    Hey Pailindrone TEX

If you don’t have facts – attack the supporter is your tactic.

  79. marK Says:

    Smack,

    Two things:

    (1) The law states that you cannot pledge ‘x’ amount of dollars and renege on it. This is sometimes known as the “Charities Rule”.

Suppose you promise to donate $1000 to a charity. The charity then spends $1000 on the basis of your promise. If you renege, then they are out $1000 that they have already spent based upon your promise. Guess who they will come after?

Political committees operate under the same rules. If you pledge a certain amount, you are on the hook for that amount.

    (2) What happened in Las Vegas is all the pledges provided credit card information. It is then a very simple transaction for the campaign to charge the credit card for the amount pledged. So it is likely that the Romney campaign had all 10.25 million bucks in their bank account by midnight last night.

  80. asparagus Says:

don’t know, don’t care. They say they raised $10M in one day. I believe it. When Mitt files his quarterly report with the FEC, it will show at least $30M raised, not just commitments. You’re grasping at straws because you got nothin. Keep sipping on your 2% milk, buddy. Eventually, it will go sour and you’ll come crawling back to Mitt.

  81. Smack1968 Says:

    Jon Huntsman for Obama,

Money Bombs are real money..ask any campaign.

Real dollars going into a real account in real time.

    Period.

Was this real, or was this a Romney?

I don’t think anyone wants to answer this question..because…well…you know why.

  82. Alvin Says:

In the bigger picture it is not all that important, Gov. Romney has a wide base of support and can raise money. That is not new information. TPAW can pick some big dollars to as he bolsters his credibility through debates and good campaigning. I love the slogan though Smack, one of your many good ones!

  83. Try Not To Snore When I Talk ZZZpaw Says:

I don’t think ZZZpaw’s APOLOGY on cap and trade was real!

  84. Jon Huntsman for Obama Says:

    81

    Smack, read 79. Thanks.

Do you demand Cindy Crawford’s long-form birth certificate too?

    How about Mitt’s marriage documents?

Mitch’s birth certificate, proving he wasn’t born in Syria?

    You are embarassing yourself.

  85. Smack1968 Says:

    mark,

    Thank you for your answer.

…some of you answer in #1 does not apply but will leave it at that for now…and #2..will see about that

And yes, I do know that Mitt will have over 30 million in the 2nd quarter report.

And no, I’m not jealous of the Mitt campaign ….far from it.

  86. asparagus Says:

Smack, You are making yourself look pretty bad. I am sure you are thrilled with yourself for making up this great zinger. I’m sure Tim will be man enough to use it in a debate someday. Then again, I’m not sure. He had to back down at the last debate. He may still be in the running for VP. Wouldn’t want to damage that by attacking the frontrunner?

  87. TEX Says:

    Benny,

I got your weak nerves rattled?
If you ask me nicely,I’ll go easy on Mitt and his Wall Street crony
    bankers(for today).

  88. Smack1968 Says:

    86#

“Is it real, or is a Romney”

Yes I’am proud of that one.

I will be “zinging Mitt with my witt” all the way until TPAW upsets Romney in New Hampshire…

Then my shoulder will be here for you to cry on.

  89. Smack1968 Says:

    oooopes,
    edit

“Is it real, or is it a Romney”

    There we go…

  90. asparagus Says:

I am just glad I don’t live in Iowa. I would hate to be subjected to those horrible Transformers commercials for 2% Tim all summer long.

  91. Adam X (Beat Romney First...then Obama!) Says:

It’s actually a really good question that Smack raises here.

If Romney’s $10M is simply pledges it’s going to longer to add to his campaign coffers than than if he already has the money.

So is the $10M there in the bank or is it still at this point just as plastic as Mitt’s persona?

  92. Adam X (Beat Romney First...then Obama!) Says:

Actually – I hope marK is right.

If Mitt keeps raising millions and still loses (again) to a no-name “Anybody but Mitt” candidate that’s really gonna be…

    …rich.

  93. teledude Says:

    90. It’s actually a lot of fun living here.

Michele Bachmann called me personally the other night, and I have an invitation to go see Newt this Friday at our local resort.

I hope to have Mitch Daniels mowing my lawn before the summer is over.

I want to apologize to everyone who I was a little snippy with earlier.

I had about eight things goin on at once and was still trying to answer some questions on here (I just feel compelled to do so sometimes) and couldn’t take the time to do it so I ended up just being snarky. Sorry.

I hope I will do better. My goal is to provide light, not heat.

I’m just here to help :-)

  94. teledude Says:

Plus, I just can’t stop smiling.

  95. Ben Says:

    TEXey?

Awwww – how cute – TEX is going back to his kindergarten roots of discussing politics by trying to tease somebody by changing their name.

No please Mr. Meanie TEX – don’t be mean to Romney – I don’t think he can take slime being tossed at him from an online blog poster. How will he ever make it?

I think he may just have to pack up his bags and give up. TEX and the rest of the Palindrones are just too much to match wits with.

    Oi vey.

  96. teledude Says:

    Mitt has one Big problem

5 ft 4 inches of total Mitt destruction is headed his way.

Nothing he can do about it.

  97. LV Says:

I’m anxious to see Palin in the debates with the heavyweights.

  98. Ben Says:

Is she really that short?? I didn’t realize that.

  99. Adam X (Beat Romney First...then Obama!) Says:

    98,

I was thinking that too. It’s got to be the heels.

  100. teledude Says:

With heels she will tower over Daniels.

    97. You’re tellin’ me. I dream about it!

  101. asparagus Says:

Please! The debates with Palin will be boring! Half the guys on stage (especially Newt) will be kissing up, thinking they still have a shot with her.

  102. Adam X (Beat Romney First...then Obama!) Says:

    101,

It depends. If she goes for Romney’s jugular on health care to stoke the base (what else can she do?) there are going to be fireworks.

The horrible thing is that there is no candidate that REALLY excites me. If I had to choose today I probably pick Pawlenty.

  103. Adam X (Beat Romney First...then Obama!) Says:

I hope Rick Perry gets in. He could possibly thread the needle between establishment support and enthusiasm from the grassroots.

The only other candidate who could have done that was Huckabee and he’s out.

  104. Eric Says:

For what it’s worth, I was with Huckabee until a few days ago. Now I’m leaning towards Paul with Pawlenty as a #2.

I’ve ruled out Romney from consideration along with Johnson due to the two of them being pro-choice.

Anyone else I’d consider. Some of them I don’t know much about.

  105. Jon Huntsman for Obama Says:

    104

    Mitt Romney is not pro-choice.

He has been pro-life for 5 years now.

  106. Rombot Says:

Smack, it makes absolutely no difference whether it is money in the bank or pledges. Pledges are legally binding and as good as real money. Any bank in the world would take $10 million in pledges as collateral for a loan.

  107. Rombot Says:

Fundraising is ALWAYS reported in total pledged. Even the money that TPaw raises.

  108. Rombot Says:

104 – Stop with the lies.

  109. Ben Says:

    LOL – Eric (104)

Have you looked at Romney’s record? or are you just spewing the anti-Romney rhetoric over and over in your head and on blogs so that you’ve convinced youself?

  110. asparagus Says:

Adam X – The Perry thing makes me laugh. What is this, the 3rd time we’ve heard Perry’s name floated? Makes me think maybe Daniels isn’t running after all, and certain people are getting desperate, given Romney’s good good week.

  111. teledude Says:

    104. I believe the candidate that would do the most for the pro-life movement would be Governor Sarah Palin.

Her loving example could change the hearts of millions. The left recognizes this and that is why they have tried to destroy her.

What they have done to this decent Christian woman is a crime. I know there are people doubting if she can actually pull it off, but I have to believe once people see her for who she really is she can win the nomination and the White House, and people’s hearts will be changed.

  112. Adam X (Beat Romney First...then Obama!) Says:

    110,

Romney’s “good good week” is only in the minds of the Rombots. It hasn’t generated support. Romney donors only get to vote one time. If 80 percent of the party hates the candidate’s platform then the candidate is going to lose.

Donald Trump had more money than Mitt – but we both know that he has positions from the past or present that were going to bite him in the ass.

  113. Rombot Says:

112 – 80% of the party hates Mitt? That explains his 80%+ favorability numbers, right?

  114. Adam X (Beat Romney First...then Obama!) Says:

80 percent hates what was the result of Mitt’s signature accomplishment.

Wait until the ads start to fly.

  115. Jon Huntsman for Obama Says:

    112

What’s there to hate about Mitt Romney’s platform?

    (1) Repeal Obamacare
    (2) Cut taxes and regulations
    (3) Fight for the rights of the unborn
    (4) Defense of Marriage
    (5) Reform tax code
    (6) Reform entitlements

You kidding Adam? Are you some kind of bleeding heart liberal???

  116. Rombot Says:

    114 – You are absurd

  117. CF Says:

I get a sense that the Romney haters are simply flailing around at this point. They are desperate – throwing out complete lies, and just acting pissy. They have nothing left. Their hopes have been dashed to bring Romney down by so many means – his faith, his HC, through other candidates, etc, etc.

Everything has failed and now they look and act like bumbling fools.

  118. Adam X (Beat Romney First...then Obama!) Says:

    115,

Health Care is the biggest thing. General disingenuousness on his part is the next.

  119. LV Says:

    Teledude @100….

my mistake….I thought the 5 ft 4 remark was about Mitch Daniels.

This just means that for anyone who is AHCCCS eligible/enrolled, the acute care physical health plan covers ER visits, rather than the behavioral health system covering those costs. Because we carve-out BH from PH, we need to clarify who is responsible. This does not mean that AHCCCS covers ER visits for everyone…just those who are AHCCCS eligible/enrolled.
