Last evening Steve Forbes addressed a gathering at the Reagan Library in LA to discuss opportunities for the new GOP controlled House of Representatives. Forbes offered his perspective on President Obama’s SOTU address and how the Republicans can most effectively advance their agenda. His approximately 40 minute address also discussed the Federal Reserve and current monetary policy and its possible impact over the next few years. There was a brief Q&A period at the end that spawned interesting commentary from Forbes.
The Forbes address can be found on the Reagan Foundation’s YouTube channel at the following link. My apologies for not directly embedding the video. The embed function has not been working today.

So is Steve Forbes running too?
I’m sure he doesn’t want to be the only one left out.

From a policy and philosophical perspective, I almost wish he were running as he carries significantly more policy gravitas than many of the current supposed aspirants. He was my candidate in both ’96 and in 2000, btw.

I supported Forbes in ’96, but his sudden conversion on social issues in 2000 turned me off. Kinda like some other politician whose name is escaping me at the moment.

#3 Bob — Yeah, the way he handled that in 2000 turned me off too. Problem was, there just wasn’t a good alternative that year. Looking back, it is incredible how weak that 2000 field was. In 2008 I remember thinking that while there’s not the ideal candidate in the bunch, the entire field is so, so much better than 2000. None of them slouched in their chairs, for example, and all could speak in complete sentences, lol. Back to Forbes, I have heard him say privately on several occasions how much he regretted 2000 and letting himself be maneuvered in a way that made him appear opportunistic.
