Every time I think I have the Huckster’s motives and plans figured out, he does things like this to throw me a curveball:
Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee has the support of more Republicans around the country than three of his potential 2012 rivals, according to a new CNN poll released Tuesday. The CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll found that 67 percent of self-identified Republicans were either “very likely” or “somewhat likely” to support his candidacy in 2012.
That compared with 59 percent for former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, 54 percent for former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and 49 percent for former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.
It is the second recent poll to show momentum for Huckabee. A Public Policy Polling survey taken just before Christmas showed the former Arkansas governor overtaking Romney in the pivotal state of Florida.
Huckabee, Palin, Romney and Gingrich — who have routinely finished in the top four of most 2012 Republican presidential polls — were the only candidates whose support was measured by CNN.
A big part me thinks that Huckabee, in the end, won’t run. But comments like this make me think that he’s interested at the very least. Time will tell one way or the other.

“A big part me thinks that Huckabee, in the end, won’t run.” – Matt Newman
===
Why do a few folks think Huck will not run with such almost continuously excellent polling numbers while Palin should most definitely run with her almost continously horrific numbers?
In my opinion, the only way Huck doesn’t run is if the economy drastically improves and therefore Obama is unbeatable. He’s not interested in being the Republican Party’s 2012 sacrificial lamb in that case.
December 30th, 2010 at 1:25 pm
Matthew, of course you can’t figure out Mike Huckabee. You start by calling him the Huckster.
I am sure that whomever you are backing in 2012 would get much better verbiage.

The Huck also throws or will be throwing from his repertoire of Major League pitches:
Four-seam fastballs (in SC ’12)
!
Two-seam fastballs (in FL ’12)
Cutters (Huck’s specialty for the debates and media)
Knuckleballs (in the rest of the South ’12)
Knuckle changeups (for the Midwest ’12)
Eephus pitch (Last seen in Iowa ’08 – may see again in ???)
Spitballs (An Ed Rollins taught pitch)
Knuckle Sliders (Saving those for Obama ’12 and/or Hillary ’16)

Matt:
Huck is posting this, I think, because he wants to show folks that he is a forced to be reckoned with.
As for whether or not he’ll run, let’s wait until some more early state polls come out. If Huckabee thinks he’s got a chance for the nomination, he’ll run.
If he does run, it’ll be interesting to see how he handles being one of the initial front-runners. He was front-runner last time for about 1 week (between Iowa and New Hampshire), so this’ll be a new role for him.

TC,
Perhaps Matthew is using “Huckster” as a term of endearment like one would use “Flip-Flopster”, “Cainster” or “Boltster”?
Or looking at the banner on top: Jindster, Newtster, Petraster, Jebster, Thunester, Barbster, Mintster, and T-Pawster.
Let’s give Matthew the benefit of the doubt. ; )

Haley Barbour praised by NAACP for sisters’ release
http://tinyurl.com/343sj… Gov. Barbour’s Statement http://tinyurl.com/2wle4… 25 minutes ago
Gov. Haley Barbour, R-Miss., released two sisters serving life sentences for armed robbery whose plight was championed by the NAACP. A week ago, Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour had drawn the ire of the NAACP for insensitive comments about growing up during the 1960s civil rights era.
Today, the potential 2012 GOP presidential candidate is being hailed by the leader of the nation’s oldest civil rights group as a “shining example” of a governor.
Why the change? Barbour on Wednesday decided to free two sisters who have been imprisoned on life sentences since 1994 on armed robbery charges.

Craig #1 It’s a feeling I have on Huckabee. I just don’t think he’s going to run in 2012. Maybe it’s an incorrect feeling – call it instincts. I’m also not thoroughly convinced Palin will run. My predictions may disagree with that…but I’m not 100% convinced either of them will run.
Texas Conservative #2: Much like I’d call Pawlenty “T-Paw,” I’d refer to Huckabee as “The Huckster” – have been since 2008. Not meant to come across as an insult, just a nickname I like using for him. If it offends our readers, though, I can stop using it. I’m also undecided for 2012 thus far – have to wait to see who the candidates are.
Jonathan #4: I agree. I think he’s trying to show that he has this support base. Huckabee is a force to be reckoned with, and this is a way to help show that.

#12 In 2008? I was a Fred-head. Voted for him in the NYS Conservative Party primary before moving to MD. Not that I had a problem with Huckabee, Romney, McCain – and even Ron Paul…I’d vote for over Obama.
December 30th, 2010 at 7:49 pm
PPP(a democratic firm tied to the Daily Kos) and CNN(a democrat network founded by radical liberal Ted Turner that employs half of the old Clinton administration) have an agenda that is as clear as day. Gallup, Rasmussen, Marist, and all other reputable non-partisan pollsters have Huck in the mix, but behind. It is interesting, however, that the Left is pushing these Huck polls so hard not long after Obama declared Huck his preferred punching bag. Perhaps they know what most of us knew back in 08; that Huck’s big spending and religious platform will not win over independents and his staggeringly bad fundraising will make him an easy target.
Polling this early gets you in the door, it gets you some free media. But if you fail to turn such attention into tangible funding and organization, as Huck has failed dramatically to do, then it won’t amount to anything. Polling when 95% of the country is not paying attention mean nothing, just ask Rudy Giuliani. Where was Nikki Haley in the polls a year out? Where was Mike Castle in the polls? Where was Joe Miller? Polling when there is so little focus on a race is almost useless, measuring little more then name ID.
Even Huck has conceded he can’t win with his typical funding levels, but he has yet to correct that problem, and there is no indication that he will.
Face it, the guy wants to be a talk show host and live on a Florida beach. He doesn’t have the guts, the will, or the ability to build an operation worthy and qualified to topple the Obama machine. He is either too lazy or too prideful to undertake the hard work of constructing a massive ground operation as well as the humbling glad-handing that goes a long way to winning an election.

26.
Each state, the latest one. You only get credit for the latest.
Cherry picking is counting a state multiple times to pad it.
You are not going to get away with that, Tex. Nice try.

I have to keep an eye on you in 2011 as more state polls come on line.
Hence the chart for EACH state that Huck’s Army has produced to keep track … http://forum.hucksarmy.com/download/file.php?id=1393

How many polls? You have problem counting,so
go slow:1…7…15…21…25…29!

You can count, all way to 29.
Now,count colored boxes which represent the
winner of each poll.
Start with the lady,Sarah Palin.I think you are
a gentleman?Are you?
Let’s see how many times Mama Grizzly won?
1…5…8..slow now…11…12!
Bingo! You done it again Craig,I’m proud of you!
Let’s count for Huckabee now:
1…4…7…9!Bingo!You’re getting really good.
How many for Romney and Newt?
8 for Romney?OK,not bad for our buddy Mitt.
2 for Newt?Only 2,that’s it?OK,it figures.
So,what do we have?
SARAHCUDA…12

>Romney 13 of 23 latest states polled – either in 1st or within the MOE of 1st
>Newt 6 of 23 latest states polled – either in 1st or within the MOE of 1st

I will wager that Romney passes Sarahcuda within 60 days from now while she slides to 3rd…
And that Huck remains ahead of both.
AND Tex, we’re counting each state once AT THIS SITE and not padding like they do at your cult headquarters, C4P.com i.e. Crying4Palin.com
December 31st, 2010 at 4:30 am
Tex,
Let’s see.. Why do I have to keep an eye on you? At least 5 reasons…
1. You counted NC TWICE, OHIO TWICE and WISCONSIN TWICE.
2. Plus you’re counting MINNESOTA TWICE which Pawlenty won both times ..have you no shame?
12/10 MN:
Mitch Daniels 2%
Newt Gingrich 11%
Mike Huckabee 15%
Sarah Palin 17%
Ron Paul 9%
Tim Pawlenty 24%
Mitt Romney 13%
John Thune 3%
Someone else/Undecided 6%
http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/pdf/PPP_Release_MN_1213.pdf
..yet in your brainwashed state of Palinitis, you like a zombie, gave her two 1st place finishes for MN when it was T-Paw who won both MN polls since 9/11.
3. It is close but Sarahcuda is not beating Huckacuda lately or easily as you constantly boast fot the past month and a half.
4. Huck leads in 8, Sarah in 8, Mitt in 7 including ties since 11/9/10 therefor no official frontrunner for 2010.
5. BUT more importantly: Huck is in 1st place or within the *MOE of 1st place in 17 of 23 states – each state with their LATEST poll only counting!!!
>Sarahcuda 15 of 23 latest states polled – either in 1st or within the MOE of 1st
>Romney 13 of 23 latest states polled – either in 1st or within the MOE of 1st
>Newt 6 of 23 latest states polled – either in 1st or within the MOE of 1st
December 31st, 2010 at 4:42 am
Tex Colmes,
I will now update with the newer Minnesota poll (12/10′s replacing 11/11′s) where T-Paw destroys the field and Sarahcuda DROPS back outside the MOE. Uh-oh…she’s going backwards again.
23 States since 9/11. Count each state’s latest poll once.
And you will get this:

#34 should have said, “I will now update with the newer Minnesota poll (new MN poll from 12/10/2010 replacing older MN poll from 11/11/2010) where T-Paw destroys the field and Sarahcuda DROPS back outside the MOE.

Double checking each different MOE listed at both HA charts…
NOTE: Huck is in 1st place or within MOE of 1st place in 15 of 23 states = 65% of the time
>Romney 14 of 23 latest states polled – either in 1st or within the MOE of 1st = 61% of the time
>Palin 14 of 23 latest states polled – either in 1st or within the MOE of 1st = 61% of the time
>Newt 6 of 23 latest states polled – either in 1st or within the MOE of 1st = 26% of the time

The first two states to be polled in 2011 will be Nevada for sure and it looks (so far) like Pennsylvania again as the other state for next week. I wonder if both states will tighten up a little.

Wow, this place has gone to heck. A 60 post argument between ugly and stinky is the only thing going on here.
December 31st, 2010 at 9:27 am
Seriously, how old are you 2? I am totally serious in my question.
What a waste of a post. Can’t you 2 just email each other. No one else on here cares; you both post this nonsense so damn much.
If your chosen candidates chooses not to run do you both promise to leave the site and never comment again?

Max said, “Gallup, Rasmussen, Marist, and all other reputable non-partisan pollsters have Huck in the mix, but behind.”
I have three things I’d like to point out about that.
1. I thought the chart we saw said that none of the polling companies were 100% accurate and most of them leaned either one way or the other.
2. According to the polling I’ve seen (including “Gallup, Rasmussen, [and] Marist”) Huckabee is within the margin of error no matter who does the polling.
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2012/president/us/republican_presidential_primary-1452.html
More info from that link are the RCP averages:
Romney 19.1
Huckabee 17.6
Palin 17.0
Gingrich 13.1
3. Both Romney and Huckabee have beaten Obama 5 times in head to head polls against him.
According to Real Clear Politics averages:
Obama has a 0.2 advantage against Romney
Obama has a 0.8 advantage against Huckabee
Obama has a 12.8 advantage against Palin
IMO all four of the top tier candidates should run and as many of the bottom tier that are willing ought to give it a try so that the voters can decide who our best nominee is.

I have a comment awaiting moderation because I put too many link in it. Here is the rundown without all of the links just in case it never works: (If it does work, please forgive the double post)

Great points, Granny T.:)
And leave it to the Rombot twins, Dan (#38) & Ray (#39) to offer nothing to the discussion but their usual snarkiness, pettinees, and bitterness over ’08.
Why do Romney supporters freak out every time Mitt is not in first place? Remember, you can’t win ‘em all.
And who would want to this early?
You’ll just get a huge target on your back if you’re crowned OFFICIAL FRONTRUNNER.

Mike Huckabee says, “my race, my pace”.
I agree.. Let everyone run their own race. The more the merrier!
Don’t be afraid of competition, folks. It’s great for our Party. Let’s have a BIG REPUBLICAN FIELD…
And great debates. Then let the voters decide as Granny T. said.
