Pro-Life political action group, the Susan B. Anthony List, has announced that they will be hosting a debate of the top contenders in the RNC Chair race on January 3rd, 2011. According to the SBL press release, the purpose of the debate is to ensure that, “…the next RNC chairman not only be pro-life, but be prepared to use his or her position to advance pro-life values.”
In preparation for the debate, all four participants have agreed to a pre-debate interview with SBL leadership. In addition to delving into an issue of critical importance to the conservative grassroots, the interviews are a good introduction to those who may not be familiar with the candidates. The four contenders who were selected to participate are Reince Priebus, Ann Wager, Gentry Collins, and Saul Anuzis. Their pre-debate interviews can be viewed below:
Reince Priebius
Ann Wagner

This is great and wonderful that they check off all the right boxes, but as Matt Coulter said in his post, the Chair of the RNC isn’t supposed to be the GOP’s chief spokesman. Their job is to deal with the nuts and bolts of building the Republican Party; fundraising, building an organization, cooperating with our candidates (especially the nominee), and making sure the Convention runs smoothly. Our candidates, Congressional Leaders, and our eventual nominee, need to check off the boxes, not the guy (or gal) who makes sure the GOTV effort works properly.

I agree with OJ.
“Marlevous!!!”
Jon,
Pro-Life is VERY important and if that is even a minor problem for any of them, we need to know now. Hence the pre-debate interview videos above.

It seems to me that what the SBA List folks are really fishing for is a commitment to funnel RNC dollars to the SBA and related political action committees in the name of “voter turnout” operations.

“The four contenders who were selected to participate are….”
There are six declared candidates at this time for RNC chairman. Were the other two—Steele and Maria Cino—not invited to participate in this debate and preliminary interview? Were they invited but declined? The wording of Kavon’s statement quoted above suggest the former. Why? I would think that SBA List would want to hear the views of ALL declared candidates.

Excellent point Chris. I would, also, like to know the answer.
