Mike Huckabee Takes On Sarah Palin

Whoever said the holidays are the slow time of year was obviously not talking about politics. First, there is the lame-duck Congress, which just needs to go away. Secondly, there is always a slew of polls to keep us junkies happy. Then, there’s this… per Politico.

If you don’t want to read the article, basically on this week’s Sarah Palin’s Alaska, the former Alaska Governor took a shot at Michelle Obama over the First Lady’s anti-obesity campaign; she mocked the First Lady saying that desserts are not a right among other things. Palin asserts that the First Lady’s campaign is some kind of attempt to establish a nanny-state that is trying to tell our children what to eat.

Well, Mike Huckabee has responded to Palin on this issue, saying “Michelle Obama’s not trying to tell people what to eat or not trying to force the government’s desires on people…She’s stating the obvious, that we do have an obesity problem in this country.”

“With all due respect to my colleague and friend Sarah Palin, I think she’s misunderstood what Michelle Obama is trying to do.”

If you’ll recall back during the 2008 campaign, Huckabee brought up the obesity problem when he discussed healthcare. Basically, the former Arkansas Governor said we should be trying to find ways of keeping people healthy before they become sick, thus reducing overall health-care costs. Given that position, and the Governor’s own struggle with obesity, his position is not surprising.

Now, on this issue, I agree with both Huckabee and Mrs. Obama; this isn’t like Michael Bloomberg’s outright ban on trans-fats or some-such nonsense. This, at least to me, seems to be an educational and awareness campaign more than anything.

Also, from a purely political standpoint, this is a very stupid fight for Palin to be taking. Is she now pro-obesity or pro-unhealthy living? Further, bashing the First Lady is about as diminishing as… I don’t know, going camping with Kate Gosselin. It certainly doesn’t make her look better to the national audience. And it especially doesn’t make her look Presidential.

On this issue, it appears that Huckabee is right and Palin is just wrong.

It seems that every week Huckabee is calling out Palin by name and finding a way to say how he is different.

If they both run, look for things to get pretty ugly between these two rather quickly. Huckabee can hardly hide his resentment of her.

On this issue, I have to agree with Huck, however.

  2. Craig Says:

The problem is that Palin would lose in a landslide to Obama.

Does anyone doubt that at this point?

Are we simply going to hand Obama four more years on a platter?

I can just hear Palin’s concession speech to Obama, “Even though I lost by 15 points this time, 42% of America agrees with me and my constitutional principles. Those folks have sent a message loud and clear. You betcha!”

    POLITICO:

    Huckabee spox: No Fox talks

HuckPAC executive director Hogan Gidley e-mails to counter Jonah Goldberg’s report that a rich Fox News contract is set to keep Mike Huckabee out of the presidential campaign.

“Mr. Goldberg should let Governor Huckabee in on that, since the Governor is not aware of any current ‘negotiations,’” he writes.

And Palin, Newt, and Romney in unison shout, “DARN IT!”

    ;)

  5. Matt "MWS" Says:

So when is Palin going to go another round with Barbara Bush over her literacy campaign?

  6. Craig Says:

She’s got all the former First Ladies in her crosshairs.

Sarahcuda’s on a feeding frenzy. Like I keep saying, she’s jumped the shark.

The only question now is will someone she trusts tell her the news.

  7. Craig Says:

Palin, the gift that keeps giving … to Obama’s chances to serve eight years.

  8. greg Says:

craig you think palin is the one obama wants to match up with in 2012? i was thinking today I sadly Wonder if obama is hoping for a 2012 rnc convention fight?

  9. Matt "MWS" Says:

    Craig,

Do you think she’ll pull any punches on dear Nancy for her “Just Say No” campaign?

  10. Craig Says:

    No.

  11. Craig Says:

    Greg,

YES. A hundred times yes. Obama wants to run against Palin. Period.

But he does NOT want to get in the ring with Huck, or one of Huck’s capability, competence, or talent.

  12. Texas Conservative Says:

    Good post Jonathan.

  13. TEX Says:

    Hey Craig,

You are so scared and desparate you keep forgetting:

    First things FIRST!
    THE NOMINATION!

All those Libs and RINOs talking points:
    “Please,please,please,stop Sarahcuda from
    getting nomination.

“My candidate(put the name)can beat Obama,
nobody else can.Look the push up polls,
    two years before election,
one or two every day that show Obama is
    winning against Sarah”.

Libs and RINOS are in full panic mode.
    Pleasure to watch.

  14. TEX Says:

    Craig

“But he does NOT want to get in the ring with Huck, or one of Huck’s capability, competence, or talent”.

Oh please, just had a nice snack with
    great Cabernet Sauvignon.

Alert me about “barf time” in advance,
    would you.

  15. OHIO JOE Says:

I do not care if Mr. Huckabee wants to eat healthy, just don’t MANDATE to me what to eat. He does not cook for my family. He is fast turning into Romney lite.

  16. naturesfirstgreen Says:

Craig, these are the facts. The MSM and Democrat pollsters constantly remind us that Palin is not liked by the Moderates and Indies and Leftists of this country and constantly remind us that a path to Presidential victory is impossible for Palin…why bother reminding us if it is so impossible for her to beat the One…because they know she isn’t the caricature that have painted of her and, on her terms, Americans will realize this. And when they do…Obama’s numbers won’t look as good.

  17. Craig Says:

    15.
Ohio Joe, my friend. Them’s fightin’ words – calling Huck a “Romney lite”. That will NOT stand as the Dude says. ;)

Read and watch the videos of what Huck actually said NOT what Tex or Palin lovefest sites would have you to believe.

Here, just for you, friends and family..

  18. Craig Says:

    NFG,

Nope, the facts are the actual current numbers not what you want them to be.

Palin’s #’s are dismal. But you already knew that. ; )

  19. Craig Says:

    Tex,

What happened to Huck as your strong #2???

You change your mind more often than Sarah changes outfits on Palin Loves Alaska or whater she calls her Reality Show.

Which I like btw. It humors me. Plus I love the bears. 8)

  20. Craig Says:

    *whatever* ..oops, typed too fast.

  21. TEX Says:

    Craig,

Huckabee left me,I didn’t leave him.
Since 2008 Sarah was my ONLY choice,
and Huck was miles down #2.

He showed his liberal nature and left
    me no choice.

I dislike Libs and RINOS,very much.
Ronald Reagan and Sarah Palin happen
    only once in several generations.

I have very high standards for President,
dime a dozen(no dime of difference) Libs
and RINOS will NEVER cut it.

  22. Craig Says:

“Michelle Obama’s not trying to tell people what to eat or not trying to force the government’s desires on people,” Huckabee said. “She’s stating the obvious, that we do have an obesity problem in this country.”

According to an analysis from the CDC:

Childhood obesity has more than tripled in the past 30 years. The prevalence of obesity among children aged 6 to 11 years increased from 6.5% in 1980 to 19.6% in 2008. The prevalence of obesity among adolescents aged 12 to 19 years increased from 5.0% to 18.1%.

    *********FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE No. 08-194*********

    Governor Palin Announces Health Priorities

December 4, 2008, Anchorage, Alaska – Governor Sarah Palin today announced her goals to improve Alaska’s health and education through fiscal year 2010 budget requests, the formation of a health care commission, support for legislation and an informational campaign to help Alaskans take better care of their own health. ….. Governor Palin called for increased coverage of Alaska’s children under Denali KidCare, state funding to reverse childhood obesity and improve diagnosis of autism, and increased funding for Alaska’s Head Start preschool programs. ….

    {{snip}}
Highlights of the Governor’s priorities in health and education:

    * Fund Alaska’s obesity prevention and control program and work toward reversing the trend of childhood obesity.

It seems like Sarah’s been busted for advocating similar programs for shildren.

Perhaps, in the future, Palin should lay off the First Lady who has a 76% approval rating, AND Huck too, who has PLUS double digits likeability/favorability numbers in America.

The Palinator is already at negative double digits in those same numbers (including head to head with Obama) and dropping again.
