    CNN’s Peter Hamby tweets:

Rubio bashes Obama for reading off a teleprompter while standing in front of CPAC’s teleprompter

  2. Tommy Boy Says:

Just a great performance. Well done Marco.

  3. Tommy Boy Says:

#1 Weigel tweets that he didn’t use the teleprompter but rather notes.

He’s not using them, but the teleprompters sort of weakened Rubio’s anti-Obama joke.

  4. Sarah & Mike: Fox Superstars Says:

A future Presidential candidate, imo. Great job as always, Marco!

  5. Tommy Boy Says:

#3 Thanks for the correction, heh heh.

  6. JA Pruce Says:

The next Reagan for the permanent Republican Majority – if the GOP co-opts both the Tea Party movement and the Hispanic vote there is no ceiling to its success.

  7. Flip Dixon Says:

I like Marco Rubio, but let’s forget all of the “next Reagan” stuff until he actually accomplishes something other than look good on TV.

#7, Have you seen the awesome job he did as FL’s speaker of the house (the book he wrote setting a vision for FL, as well as all the legislation he drafted and got passed)? The guy is a rock star and really has it all (except maybe the hair he is starting to lose :-) )…
    1) He’s right on just about every issue…even stopping illegal immigration
    2) He’s incredibly articularte when it comes to his conservative viewpoints, thereby influencing people in the same way Reagan did
    3) He’s very inspirational to listen to and one of the very few on our side that can even touch Obama (much better than Jindal or any other “rising star” out there)
    4) His connection to the Cuban community and Univision (where he has done political commentating given his fluent Spanish), gives him access to a whole different audience which will open up the entire Southwest including New Mexico, Colorado, Nevada, etc. against a Democratic party who is working much harder than us with this community
    5) He has already built up a powerful resume at the state level (far beyond anything Obama ever did as a legislator)

Without a doubt, he would be the best possible pick as VP for a person like Romney.

In fact, I know I am stepping out, but I really believe he will be President in either 6 or 10 years…

Republican Marco Rubio is anti-Crist challenging Florida governor in Senate primary

    Rubio Touts American Exceptionalism

Rubio has been billed as a rising star on the right, and in some senses, his speech was the mirror image of then state senator Barack Obama’s 2004 speech to the Democratic National Convention. To be clear, I’m not branding Rubio as a conservative answer to Obama or suggesting that this speech will have anywhere near the impact. But both speeches used similar framing to advocate very different ends. Back in 2004, Obama, similar to Rubio today, said that, “in no other country on earth, is my story even possible.” The difference is that Obama used that as a jumping off point to argue for a renewal of liberalism while Rubio used a similar theme to call for a resurgence of conservatism.

  11. Flip Dixon Says:

#8, I don’t doubt your sincerity, but you’ve listed no specific Rubio accomplishments in your post.

He’s young, he’s ethnic, he’s charismatc, and that’s all great, but I want substance too.

Otherwise he’s just a conservative Obama.

  12. Cincinnati Kid Says:

#11, You need to research yourself, but it is substantial. You can just look at Wikipedia alone and see from the brief and balancedoverview what he has done. If you go further into other websites and see even more…

Marco Rubio served as a City Commissioner for West Miami before being elected to the House of Representatives for the 111th District in a special election on Jan. 25, 2000 and won repeated re-election.[1] In November 2006, he was elected Speaker of the Florida State House for the 2006-2008 term.

    From Wiki…
Marco Rubio served as a City Commissioner for West Miami before being elected to the House of Representatives for the 111th District in a special election on Jan. 25, 2000 and won repeated re-election.[1] In November 2006, he was elected Speaker of the Florida State House for the 2006-2008 term.

He is best known for his book 100 Innovative Ideas for Florida’s Future. The book was compiled from Rubio’s travels around the state to gather ideas from citizens. This was done through what Rubio calls “Idearaisers”. Many of the issues that he pushed for in his first year as speaker came from ideas in this book.

During 2007, Marco Rubio championed a major overhaul of the Florida tax system. He argued it would reduce property taxes and decrease the size of government. While his effort stalled, it created enough debate within the Florida Legislature to pass a more modest plan supported by Governor Charles Crist.

  13. Objective Oddball Says:

Contrary to what he said, it should be abundantly obvious to anyone that America is definitely not the ONLY country in the world where….

    * it doesn’t matter who you or your parents are/were

    * you can start a business in your spare bedroom

    * today’s employees are tomorrow’s employers.

There are dozens of countries to which one, two or all of the above can be applied.

Pride in one’s country and patriotism are fine and admirable qualities. Thinking you can flippantly pass off blindingly obvious untruths under the guise of patriotism without anyone noticing isn’t quite as attractive a quality. He either knew these statements were nonsense and had so little regard for the intelligence or objectivity of listeners that he arrogantly thought nobody would notice, or he genuinely believes such nonsense to be true in which case he has a helluva lot to learn about the world outside USA and Cuba.
