Cheney over Huckabee? C’mon.
February 2nd, 2010 at 1:22 pm
Huck is as bad in the polls as his funraising numbers. Question can Huck even win Iowa and if so good news for Romney.
February 2nd, 2010 at 1:25 pm
The Daily KOS ??? C’mon guys. Winning this poll is like losing your pet. Bad news.
February 2nd, 2010 at 1:25 pm
FTR, I am in agreement with Republicans on just 10 of the 23 questions that were asked.
February 2nd, 2010 at 1:25 pm
what’s worse is the sample is that 76% of those polled considered abortion murder that is a little high for the Republican electorate as a whole and Huck his only issue that resonates is abortion. Huck supporters must really hate this poll.
February 2nd, 2010 at 1:26 pm
These are some of the dumbest questions I’ve ever heard. These just further the Kos sterotypes of Republicans.

Huckabee: Obama Admin. Does Not Support Israel
Tuesday, February 02, 2010
Former Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee says the Obama administration has shifted away from its long-standing American support of Israel.
Huckabee is in Jerusalem this week where he told CBN News that many evangelicals are not fully aware of the big policy shift.
“There has been a very significant policy shift, not just a shift from Republican presidents, but Republican and Democratic presidents in America who have had a fairly consistent approach to making it clear that any threat to Israel would be viewed as a threat to the United States,” the former Arkansas governor said. “Over the past year that policy has perhaps been, if not abandoned, certainly weakened and is no longer considered a given in the equation.”
Huckabee also said that American evangelicals are Israel’s strongest supporters.

February 2nd, 2010 at 1:29 pm
I love how they ask these two questions right next to each other:
Do you consider abortion to be murder?
Do you support the death penalty?
Many over there think this is such a gotcha point.
February 2nd, 2010 at 1:31 pm
From Huckabee’s tweet:
Quote:
Wednesday is Yad Vashem and I will also speak at Knesset.
February 2nd, 2010 at 1:32 pm
The bottom line is that the 2012 question was asked first….
So it’s not as if the other questions created by a bias to the first question.
Regarding abortion, 3/4 of the party is pro-life so I don’t think it’s surprising that 76% would consider it murder. Wouldn’t you agree that 3/4 of the party would like to see abortion doctors punished?
It’s perfectly reasonable to believe that the act of abortion is murder while only seeking punishment for the doctor and not the woman.
February 2nd, 2010 at 1:36 pm
I like the 63% Obama is a socialist.
February 2nd, 2010 at 1:37 pm
Why, it’s not illegal. If doctors were performing illegal abortions, then sure they should be punished.
Did you mean to ask, “Wouldn’t you agree that 3/4 of the party would like to see abortion illegal?”
February 2nd, 2010 at 1:39 pm
#12 I didn’t ask what you thought personally. I was asking about whether you think 3/4 of self-identified Republicans would like to see abortion doctors punished (and yes, I do believe that 3/4 of self-identified Republicans would like to see abortion illegal and thus, see abortion doctors punished).
February 2nd, 2010 at 1:40 pm
Look we all know Daily KOS hates Republicans but this is a BAD poll for Big Gov. Huck.
February 2nd, 2010 at 1:42 pm
The most important issue to frame:
After 10 1/2 years of service, how you are viewed by your constituents says everything you need to know about the politician.
Compare this to Romney, Pawlenty and most recently Palin’s Alaska poll.
——-
The latest release from the Talk Business Quarterly poll shows that 61% of survey respondents give former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee an overall favorable rating, while 49% do so for former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.
“It would appear that the former Governor still has solid political standing in his home state,” noted Roby Brock, owner of TalkBusiness.net, and a content partner with The City Wire. “At least 10 GOP Senate candidates should be thankful that Huckabee doesn’t want to serve in the U.S. Senate.”

February 2nd, 2010 at 1:42 pm
Taking this poll with a massive grain of salt, the 2012 numbers are very interesting. The person on top of the field only has 16% of the vote. No candidate is getting anywhere near even a quarter of the vote. It just goes to show that the race for the Republican nomination is wide open at this point. Some polls say Romney is ahead, others have Palin leading, and still others have Huckabee in very strong contention. We really don’t have a front-runner.
February 2nd, 2010 at 1:47 pm
If you believe anything the Daily Kos spews out daily – than you, my friend are a sucker.

Good Grief. Where did they find these “Republicans”?
Dick Cheney support half again over Huckabee? In what universe?
Huckabee support less than half that of Sarah Palin? When did that happen?
Tim Pawlenty down in the noise with Ron Paul? Uh huh. Yeah, right.
Kos or no Kos, this survey just doesn’t survive the laugh test. Time for a healthy grain of salt.
February 2nd, 2010 at 1:55 pm
#19.Viking:“This poll should end any thoughts that the Research 2000 polls done by Kos are legitimate or serious.”
You’ve got that one right.
February 2nd, 2010 at 1:56 pm
Oh this is fun. I will happily admit to having opinions that would make the Kos kids’ heads spin.
To wit,
Do you think Barack Obama is a socialist? Yes.
Do you believe Sarah Palin is more qualified to be President than Barack Obama? Yes. Certainly on paper and I don’t even like Palin. At least she was an executive.
Obama only got the job because he was the first black politician running for the position that didn’t have “race hustler” or “shady thug” written all over him like Sharpton and Jackson. He never had the resume to back up why he should have been given the job in the first place and the collective psyche of center of the country was of the mindset that electing the black guy was the “right thing to do” – qualifications be damned.
Do you believe Barack Obama is a racist who hates White people? Yes. The evidence just keeps piling up. This guy has a huge chip on his shoulder. He sat in the pew and listened to a hate monger for twenty years. The rush to judgment, “The police officers acted stupidly” was at the very least prejudicial, if not racist. And Sotomeyer is racist and Obama just loved to put her on the court as a way of “sticking it to the man”.
Should public school students be taught that the book of Genesis in the Bible explains how God created the world?
I don’t like the wording of this question. When I was in public school I remember reading about Islam and Mohammed’s flight from Mecca to Medina. Why not teach tenets of Christianity? If its part of a broad spectrum of religion then what’s wrong with it? The question seems to imply without saying so that the teachings of the Bible are the Truth with a Capital T. That’s not my reading of the question. Teaching the Bible in the same way that Newton’s Laws of Motion are taught is wrong. Talking about what is in the Bible and underpinnings of Christianity, Islam and Judaism is fine by me.
February 2nd, 2010 at 1:56 pm
The 11 remaining PPP polls this year will tell a more reasonable and valid story.
February 2nd, 2010 at 1:58 pm
This is the 2nd straight poll showing Palin as the frontrunner. She definitely cannot be dismissed. This poll is a problem for Huck, especially in the South which is his stronghold. Even Romney is doing better in the South (9% to 8%) than Huck.
February 2nd, 2010 at 2:00 pm
Yeah Bob, I like the fact that she won 3 out of 4 regions.
February 2nd, 2010 at 2:08 pm
Sarah and Mike,
The reason why Huckabee is a lot more popular than Palin in AR is because Democrats don’t hate him in the state.
http://www.talkbusiness.net/Weblogs/WeblogItemDetail.aspx?WebLogItemID=5f2682b8-81aa-4d3b-abba-0f97c7ef5150&WeblogID
I doubt Huckabee is doing much better than Palin in his home state among indies and Republicans. I suspect his Democrat favorable number is probably around 40% and that accounts for much of the difference.
February 2nd, 2010 at 2:10 pm
Aron,
http://www.foxnews.com/projects/pdf/051809_issues_web.pdf
57. On the issue of abortion, would you say you are more pro-life or more prochoice?
Pro-life/Pro-choice
Overall 49% 43
Democrats 34% 57
Republicans 69% 27
Independents 51% 40
February 2nd, 2010 at 2:12 pm
Aron,
So I’ll concede 3/4 is a little high but if you average out the Fox poll, this Kos poll with the Quinnipiac poll and the Pew poll (NY Times/CBS News is best ignored), you get around 68-70% of the party identifying as pro-life in some capacity.

I expect better, troops. Man up!
February 2nd, 2010 at 2:27 pm
TB,
How one describes themself — pro-choice or pro-life — can be interpreted in many ways, and is therefore of limited relevance for polling purposes. There are many people who are personally pro-life, but don’t believe it’s their place (or government’s) to make that decision for women with unwanted pregnancies.
My only qualm with CBS/NYT polls is their consistent pattern of oversampling Democrats. There’s no basis to believe their GOP data, in isolation, is BS.
February 2nd, 2010 at 2:27 pm
#33
Kos commissioned the poll. It was conducted by Research 2000.
However, its weekly national poll is a joke.
February 2nd, 2010 at 2:29 pm
“I doubt Huckabee is doing much better than Palin in his home state among indies and Republicans. I suspect his Democrat favorable number is probably around 40% and that accounts for much of the difference.”

February 2nd, 2010 at 2:32 pm
#34
Then wouldn’t you agree the same standard applies to Kos/Research 2K?
Agreed. But the logic applies the other way. There are many people who are personally pro-choice but still would answer yes to the question about whether abortion is murder or evil (I think people conflate murder with homicide because the latter can be justified. This poll can be seen consistently with other polls with that conflation in mind as one can believe abortion is homicide but still feel people have a “right” to do it).
February 2nd, 2010 at 2:37 pm
S&M Superstars.#33,
If you remember to take it with a grain of salt, there are some interesting gems in all the dross.
With being said, I have a very hard time believing the Huckabee numbers. Those just don’t matchup that well with other polls. Of course, most of the other polls date from before the clemency scandal hitting the fan.
The bottom line is Sarah, Mitt, and Mike have been taking turns on top of various polls ever since the polls were closed back in November 2008. Any overeager fan who claims that the latest polls prove that their favorite is going to win and all others should just withdraw “for the good of the party” need to get a grip on reality.
February 2nd, 2010 at 2:41 pm
Mark, withdraws begin after South Carolina …
Oh yeah, baby!
February 2nd, 2010 at 2:42 pm
How can this be a fair and neutral poll when in the questioning, they PLANT A SEED FOR PALIN (Do you believe Sarah Palin is more qualified to be President than Barack Obama?). Why didn’t they ask that question of ALL the potential candidates. By doing this, You wonder if it was deliberately slanted to achieve a particular end?
February 2nd, 2010 at 2:44 pm
41. BOSMAN, you are very wise, man. ; )
February 2nd, 2010 at 2:44 pm
75% of Republicans think gay people should be banned from teaching at schools?

That question was asked after the 2012 question.
February 2nd, 2010 at 2:45 pm
For Sarah and Mike that will begin well before Iowa, as they both realize they have no shot at the nomination and would tear the party appart
But both will do well as pundits.
February 2nd, 2010 at 2:45 pm
43. Kevin, it’s the Kos Kids playin’ with your mind.
Relax.
February 2nd, 2010 at 2:50 pm

I don’t care WHEN it was asked, the fact is IT WAS THERE and ONLY for her!
February 2nd, 2010 at 2:51 pm
45. Thunder, one will not run in IOWA, one will stay at FOX to support the other.
and I don’t care which one runs, which one stays.
And that’s bad bad bad news…
for Mitt Romney ;( AND anyone else who shows up in IOWA, SC or FLA.
February 2nd, 2010 at 2:52 pm
I don’t know where we get the idea from that either SC or FL are the domain of Huckabee or Palin supporters.
February 2nd, 2010 at 2:53 pm

February 2nd, 2010 at 2:54 pm

February 2nd, 2010 at 2:54 pm
It does beg the question, if it’s a ridiculous poll why feature it, Now Sarah has actually proven to quite moderate on the domestic partnership benefits question, from her record in Alaska, she is not
for literal interpretation of the bible, as went over months ago. She’s a Feminist for Life, so the
contraceptive question is out. And she’s not a secessionist, but she doesn’t dismiss the AIP, having
elected one of her mentors, once as Governor. So go ahead with the talking points, that even the Huff Po would be loath to repeat
February 2nd, 2010 at 2:56 pm
49,
Its called, WISHFUL THINKING. SC will go for DeMINT (Romney) and Florida will go for the 2008 second choice, Romney
February 2nd, 2010 at 2:58 pm
#47
Yeah, but that defeats your entire point that a seed was planted for Palin if the 2012 question was asked first.
February 2nd, 2010 at 3:04 pm
They could have repeated back their answers and switched votes to Sarah. We don’t know … what we do know is Kos folks are whacked and dishonest to say the least on just about, well,
everything
February 2nd, 2010 at 3:07 pm
54, People were used to make the phone calls for kos. They read the questions first before they make the call. Knowing that a Palin question was on the list, one can only wonder how stringent the Kos was as to worrying about the order of the questioning? The Poll was flawed in it’s content from the beginning.
February 2nd, 2010 at 3:07 pm
53, Now who’s sounding more like a wishful thinker. Hmmm… ???
Mitt should stick with that brilliant Nevada strategy that worked so well last time. lol
February 2nd, 2010 at 3:11 pm
57,
With DeMint running in SC as a favorite son?
February 2nd, 2010 at 3:16 pm
Everybody repeat after me:
This is a push poll.
Now then, let’s think of something more productive. How can we phrase questions to make Democrats look bad, and what kind of numbers would we get. How many Democrats would describe Sarah Palin as “worse than Hitler”? How many Democrats would say “protecting the planet” is more important than “protecting individual human beings”? How many Democrats would claim that “Bush was directly responsible for, or had foreknowledge of 9-11″.
Then all we need to do is cherry-pick our sample, and we’re in business.

You think SC folks are that dumb to waste their vote on a “false” Demint run? Now if Demint were to show up in IOWA, that, my friend is a horse of a different color and would be quite interesting, indeed.
But to run in South Carolina ONLY would be just denying the SC folks their chance to vote for the eventual nominee, imho.
Anyway, SC’s too smart for those type of political games and trickery: Face it!
It’s Sarah or Mike sweeping the state very very very likely depending on which one runs, as I said above.

both will stay, and you will weep. And as a Floridian, neither Huckabee or Palin stand a chance in this state.
If either does survive that long, I look for them to be blown out as Huckabee was blown out in 2008.
There are not that many Evangelicals here (mostly in the pan handle), and they make up less than 20%.
Most Non Evangelicals will not vote for Huckabee and few will vote for Palin. They actually
think compentancy and experience is important.
February 2nd, 2010 at 3:48 pm
I would argue it is scientifically impossible for Kos to accurately gague the views of the average Republican voter, no matter how sincerely he would like to (and I have my doubts). Seriously, how many conversations went like this:
Hello?
Yes, hi, are you _______?
(pause) Yes.
Well, I’m from the Daily Kos and I’m conducting a –
Seriously, what was the response rate? I’m guessing a boatload of callers simply slammed down the receiver, thus heavily weighing this poll to the older and less internet savvy Republicans who have know idea who Kos is.
February 2nd, 2010 at 3:49 pm
Just those who voted for Huckabee. In reallity, Huckabee maxed out in SC, and I expect Romney or others can beat Huckabee
or Palin in SC. You are living in the past, SC, isn’t the Evangelical strong hold it once was, as retires
have swamped the place from up north, as well as Military Retirees, who for the most part did
not support Huckabee and will not support him or Palin in 2012.
February 2nd, 2010 at 3:51 pm
#65 Research 2K conducted the poll so I doubt they would identify themselves as Daily Kos.
February 2nd, 2010 at 3:52 pm
#62:
If the field is as fractured in 2012 as it is now, which I doubt but still may happen, DeMint might try the favorite son route just to see if he can catch any fire. Think about it; he can skip Iowa and New Hampshire and come out of nowhere to take the “first in the South” primary. Then the person everyone is talking about before Florida is Jim DeMint. He could go into Florida and Super Tuesday with some momentum and from there, who knows?
February 2nd, 2010 at 4:00 pm
64. “They actually
think … experience is important.”
Um, 10 1/2 years as Governor of a red state trumps your four years as a governor of the bluest of ALL blue states, my friend.
And I would not keep going down that Daily Kos road that you travel on daily …of “Sarah’s sooo incompetent” empty rhetoric that you Palin haters are so well versed in. Malarkey! I say!
Unless you are a troll, then I apologize.

10 1/2 years and how many clemencies? And how much did Mike raise taxes. That kind of experience is not what we need.
As far as Palin experience, its almost non existance.
As far as Troll goes, your pretty much a troll yourself for Sarah and Mike. Most conservatives actually believe in conservative
principles which includes having experience and not running from your problems but facing them. So, don’t ask who the troll
tolls for, it trolls for thee.
I am looking for experience, compentency. Not someone who quits when things get rough. I am looking for someone
who believes in law and order and who doesn’t let criminals out of jail so they can kill again. Thanks to Mike’s clemency
5 people are dead who would be alive today if they had been left in prison.
February 2nd, 2010 at 4:23 pm
And 16 convicts were executed under Mike’s watch.
But keep using the tragedy of fallen police officers and the sorrow of their loving families for political reasons, troll.

You Rombots with your “Romney or bust” outlooks and bumperstickers are about to face reality this elecion season Again
But hey! Good luck, maybe Palin and Huck will both sit this one out for 2016 instead and all your dreams will come true in the land of Bots.
I doubt it.

These questions are all based on the worst stereotype of conservative extremists. Its like asking when did you stop beating your wife. You cannot answer yes or no without quantifying or making exceptions. I would ignore this as pathetic leftist propaganda ploy to justify keeping there stereotypes going. I bet we could do the same sort of thing to the left.
Do you believe government should provide everything to the citizens?
Do you believe in killing the unborn?
Do you want your children taught by promiscuous adults?
Do you think Obama is the messiah?
Ridiculous.

Mike’s tax record for his 10 1/2 years as governor was quite good and very reasonable while quite popular with his state of Arkansas.
BUT Mitt’s??? NOT SO FAST!!!
Romney’s record of higher fees and taxes as governor
As governor of Massachusetts, Mitt Romney raised state government fees and taxes by three quarters of a billion dollars a year.
During his four year tenure, Romney nickeled and dimed Massachusetts families and individuals with over a hundred fee increases, on everything from getting married (he upped the price for a marriage license), to buying a new home (he increased charges for Registry of Deeds paperwork), to owning a gun legally (he tripled the fee for a Firearms ID Card). He also proposed and obtained hundreds of millions of dollars in new tax revenues from business, with tax changes he dubbed loophole closings but critics said were really just tax increases.
The fee hikes and tax revenue increases described here were all proposed by Romney himself, as elements of various budgets, revenue raiser packages, or other measures or policy proposals originating in Romney’s office.

#76,
, but you didn’t mention that those fees were to pay for the MA Health Care bill. That’s one of the reasons why EVEN AFTER, Gov Patrick added illegals, fooled around with the funding, and ignored tweaking it for the rising costs of health care, it still ONLY was responsible for less than 1.3% of the states budget.
I’m sure it was an oversight on your part

Every time I see SARAH PALIN haters attack her for lack of experience, not
having degree from some fancy name University etc,it’s good for a laugh.
Ronald Reagan had degree from small college in Eureka Ill.Yes,he was Governor
of California, but does anybody think that he was great leader, one of the best
Presidents in American history because he had experience as Governor?!
Noooooo!!!You see how stupid the whole experience argument is.
Barak Obama is bad President not because of lack of experience, but because
of his terrible socialist ideas, because who he is,because of what he believes.
SARAH PALIN has backbone and spine of steel!
She has firm, unbendable, conservative,Reaganesque beliefs.
SARAH PALIN is against status quo,she went against corrupt Republican establishment in Alaska and won,big time. They don’t call her SARAHCUDA for
nothing.
SARAH PALIN is very unique,(Mike Huckabee to a lesser degree),everybody else,
good men,but nothing more than polished politicians.

“As far as Palin experience, its almost non existance.” Sometimes, you are good for entertainment Thunder.
February 2nd, 2010 at 6:19 pm
It is very, very unfair for people to attack and blame Mike Huckabee
for the tragic deaths of four police officers in Seattle.
Look,16 years boy,who never killed,never physically harmed anybody,went
in court for robbery(no gun or knife involved).
The stupid, idiotic,CRIMINAL judge, gave the kid 108 years in jail,no parole.
That moron judge, should have been sent in jail with the kid.
The case was brought in front of Governor Huckabee.
All Huckabee did was,he reduced 108 years to 48 years, with possibility of
parole. It was up to future parole board to parole the kid or not.
Mike Huckabee had nothing to do with that case anymore, period.
And some of you who think that 108 years, with no parole, for robbery by
16 years old is OK,you are not only cruel, you are sick.
I hate the scumbag that killed four officers, but almost equally,I despise
that stupid,worthless judge.

I think you may be right, at it will most likely be Mike Huckabee that sits out and supports Sarah to spite Mitt because he is that small and petty. I bet you he wouldn’t even endorse Romney in a general.
February 2nd, 2010 at 10:03 pm
Don’t be silly, my Rombot friend -
I’ll bet you $100MM that Huck would support Mitt if he wins and that Huck would raise Mitt’s hand high up in the air on that convention stage (or vice versa).
You Romnuts need to cool it and become more friendly, man.
February 2nd, 2010 at 11:28 pm
I agree with Competent Conservative :Spence:, I don’t think it’s always Romnuts doing the attacking. It’s Huck supporters that lie about Mitt so much and it’s Huck that used Romneys religion against him.
If Huck did support him he would only do it because he had to. I think people have very legitimate concerns about Mike Huckabee and I think it is there right and even understandable to point out what they know is the truth about Huck.
Mike Huckabee will do anything to stop Romney from winning. ANYTHING!!!! He is a fraud. Why else is he getting almost no support from NON Evangelicals??? Yes, he’s getting some, but if he is so cool and likable and there is some likability, then why else is not getting a lot of support from elsewhere?

Still Rolling: Fox News Has Its Best January Ever
Fox News had its best January in the history of the network, and was the only cable news network to grow year-to-year.
FNC also had the top 13 programs on cable news in total viewers for the fifth month in a row, and the top 13 programs in the A25-54 demographic for the first time in more than five years.
• FNC grew in double digits in both total viewers and the A25-54 demographic from January 2009. In prime time, it was up 22% in total viewers and 51% in the demo. CNN was down 34% and 37% and MSNBC down 26% and 38%. In total day, FNC was up 16% and 28%. CNN was down 34% and 41% and MSNBC down 28% and 39%.

How did this thread disintegrate from a ridiculous poll to romney vs huckabee? I think some posters have obsession to pit the two men against one another, a rematch if you will. But I think if that happens we all know how that will turn out. Four slain police officers in Lakewood, WA have pretty much determined that outcome.
