Basically this means there’s no real middle ground for Obama to work with as a compromise. Nothing’s gained (except perhaps some energy to the opposition) by moving the trial somewhere other than Gitmo.

  3. Hunter Says:

Obama needs to find something he can pass with broad popular support. Good grief… Why go about the KSM trial this way with numbers like these?

  4. Liz Says:

Obama is psychotic. Honestly, even if this guy really were a full on Communist no-good, what advantage does he get bringing his terrorist friends for U.S. trial? Enlighten me, anyone. And while the Articles of Impeachment are being drawn up for him, Pelosi HAS TO GO flying her fam on military aircraft, WITHOUT her, drinking themselves silly and to what, places like JAPAN? Look, either my family and kids get to fly Air Force style to the destination of our choice OR ELSE PELOSI RESIGNS. I’ve had it. Anyone else? On taxpayer nickel. This woman needs to get pushed out back into the real world. She has completely lost touch and is abusive at best. She needs to wait tables at a truck stop. Even that’s too good for her.

Women who wait tables at truckstops in America retort in unison,

“Hey, elitist Liz – what do you do for a living to feed your kids?” ;)

  6. Liz Says:

    I’m a truckdriver.

Man oh man, it is SO shaping up Romney this cycle. Also, I just picked up a new phrase from the comments section on another blog – “You are a glittering jewel of colossal ignorance.” It already sounds trite I guess.

  7. Liz Says:

“A glittering jewel…of colossal ignorance.” Nope. Doesn’t work.

Just kidding with you, Liz. :)

    Anyway:

Gov. Huckabee will speak at the annual NRB Media Leadership Dinner to be held on February 28th. (My company will have a booth in the hall so it will be a pleasure and honor to meet him, if possible.)

This administration surely cannot think of a common sense solution to a problem
when such is staring them in the face. Why not try these co-conspirators in a
military tribunal in Gitmo ( cheaper for security ) instead of spending 200 million
for such . Since they already confessed guilty as enemy combatants, why not execute
them as they deserve. Besides, Obama has yet to look for thet 200 mil, which they do not have.

GOP revives ‘soft on terror’ charge
A series of recent controversies — capped by Friday’s decision to pull a key 9/11 trial out of Manhattan — is prompting Republicans to turn up the pressure on President Barack Obama, by resurrecting the kind of “soft on terrorism” charge that has dogged Democrats in the past.

US raises stakes on Iran by sending in ships and missiles
Pentagon says Patriot shield will deter strike on American allies in the Gulf
    http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/jan/31/iran-nuclear-us-missiles-gulf

Tension between the US and Iran heightened dramatically today with the disclosure that Barack Obama is deploying a missile shield to protect American allies in the Gulf from attack by Tehran.

The US is dispatching Patriot defensive missiles to four countries – Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Kuwait – and keeping two ships in the Gulf capable of shooting down Iranian missiles. Washington is also helping Saudi Arabia develop a force to protect its oil installations.

American officials said the move is aimed at deterring an attack by Iran and reassuring Gulf states fearful that Tehran might react to sanctions by striking at US allies in the region. Washington is also seeking to discourage Israel from a strike against Iran by demonstrating that the US is prepared to contain any threat.

The deployment comes after Obama’s attempts to emphasise diplomacy over confrontation in dealing with Iran – a contrast to the Bush administration’s approach – have failed to persuade Tehran to open its nuclear installations to international controls. The White House is now trying to engineer agreement for sanctions focused on Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, believed to be in charge of the atomic programme.

U.S. steps up arms sales to Persian Gulf allies
    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/01/30/AR2010013001477_pf.html

The Obama administration is quietly working with Saudi Arabia and other Persian Gulf allies to speed up arms sales and rapidly upgrade defenses for oil terminals and other key infrastructure in a bid to thwart future military attacks by Iran, according to former and current U.S. and Middle Eastern government officials.

The initiatives, including a U.S.-backed plan to triple the size of a 10,000-man protection force in Saudi Arabia, are part of a broader push that includes unprecedented coordination of air defenses and expanded joint exercises between the U.S. and Arab militaries, the officials said. All appear to be aimed at increasing pressure on Tehran.

The efforts build on commitments by the George W. Bush administration to sell warplanes and antimissile systems to friendly Arab states to counter Iran’s growing conventional arsenal. The United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia are leading a regionwide military buildup that has resulted in more than $25 billion in U.S. arms purchases in the past two years alone.

Middle Eastern military and intelligence officials said Gulf states are embracing the expansion as Iran reacts increasingly defiantly to international censure over its nuclear program. Gulf states fear retaliatory strikes by Iran or allied groups such as Lebanon’s Hezbollah in the event of a preemptive strike against Iranian nuclear facilities by the United States or Israel.

For the Obama administration, the cooperation represents tangible progress against Iran at a time when the White House is struggling to build international support for stronger diplomatic measures, including tough new economic sanctions, a senior official said in an interview.

“We’re developing a truly regional defensive capability, with missile systems, air defense and a hardening up of critical infrastructure,” said the official, who is involved in strategic planning with Gulf states and who spoke on the condition of anonymity. “All of these have progressed significantly over the past year.”
