Romney’s Reponse to the State of the Union Address

Here’s Mitt’s appearance on Good Morning America yesterday where he responded to Obama’s SOTU address the night before.

My favorite part was when the questioner sneeringly asked Mitt if he really honestly thought that unemployment would have been better if John McCain had been elected. Mitt nailed him with solid facts and reasoning. The host immediately changed the subject.

  1. Kavon W. Nikrad Says:

Romney’s response to the question of whether the country would have been better off with a “President McCain” was masterful. Any aspirant to political office should watch and learn from that response.

  2. Alex Knepper Says:

That was certainly a refreshing change from watching Palin’s interviews.

  3. Sarah & Mike: Fox Superstars Says:

I liked it too, Kavon. Mitt’s right on this.

  4. Sarah & Mike: Fox Superstars Says:

    2. ..or Obama’s.

  5. Liz Says:

Yep great how he starts out, “Well he would have governed the way he compaigned.”

This country must be governed by competent, capable men and women of Romney’s calibre. Romney is certainly the best most visible candidate to head the effort up, but there needs to be a whole team of people with his make-up and work ethic to get this derailing train back up on the tracks. This should be the year it really starts to come together.

  6. Joe Hanna Says:

Romney is fantastic at give and take and 1:1 discussions. Its really something to behold. The more Obama speaks on economic issues, the less credible or interesting he is. His conversation is entirely about horror stories, rip offs, what he inherited and what the public sector can do.

Over time Romney makes the conversation essentially about US!!!! What can we do and are capable given a restrained responsible competent federal govt. We are capable of anything.

Some politicians you worry about because if they talk at length they’re liable to screw up/go off the reservation/tell a whopper. Mitt Romney has the opposite problem. If he is constrained to 10 second sound bites and partisan meat he is horrendous boring and not credible. When he gets the chance to speak in real terms about real issues there isnt any question about who shines.

Get him and Obama in a room with no audience for 2 hours. After that watch Romney win 35-40 states.

  7. marK Says:

    S&M Superstars:“..or Obama’s”

Yes, indeed. Can you just imagine Obama and Mitt on the debate stage? Mitt would be exceptional in catching The One in his multiple lies and half truths.

Huck and Rudy are no debate slouches, either. They would wipe the floor with Mr. Teleprompter Crutch. And I have to admit that Sarah is starting to show glimmers of hope in that department. Extemporaneous speaking is still her Achilles heel, but she is gradually becoming more and more articulate as time goes on.

    Is it 2012 yet?

  8. Sarah & Mike: Fox Superstars Says:

    Among our TOP THREE

    Mitt’s tracking a tad better: 34.8/33.7

    http://www.pollster.com/polls/us/fav-romney.php

    Sarah’s movin’ up too: 43.7%/46.4%

    http://www.pollster.com/polls/us/fav-palin.php

AND Mike’s on top as always: 34.7%/30.3%

  9. hamaca Says:

In a debate, do you suppose Obama would try to pull the experience card? I.e. he now has foreign policy experience, domestic experience, economic experience, etc. and this is no time for on-the-job training for a new POTUS…

If so, would be interesting to see the responses…

  10. Taylor Says:

It’s too bad we have people like Alex K & Flip on our team because Romney would make a good president. But I’ll take what I can get with these interviews where I can actually feel proud of my party and country and imagine what could have been. But for RomNots, the search continues for the “perfect candidate”.

  11. Sarah & Mike: Fox Superstars Says:

Among our TOP THREE Republicans …

Mitt is doing a tad better nationally:

    34.8%/33.7%

  12. Sarah & Mike: Fox Superstars Says:

Sarah’s on the rise but still negative: 43.7%/46.4%

  13. CalState Says:

JMac has to like that response! Well done.

It depends who our candidate is…

  14. Sarah & Mike: Fox Superstars Says:

And then there’s our leader as always:

Mike Huckabee trending at a cool 34.7%/30.3% 8)

  15. Bob Hovic Says:

I would expect Obama to try to limit the number of debates. Incumbents generally do, but Obama may be more reluctant than most.

  16. marK Says:

“In a debate, do you suppose Obama would try to pull the experience card?”

What makes you so sure that Obama would WANT people to remind people of his experience?

  17. hamaca Says:

    15. Precisely–it’s supposed to be a strong point, but in his case, he may realize it could be easily exploited as a major weakness in a number of areas. That’s why I wonder whether he’d dare bring it up.

Agreed that he’ll try to limit the number of debates. I’m sure he’ll want restrictions on the format of debates as well–very little, if any, direct interaction with the GOP candidate.

  18. Dustin Siggins Says:

    Mr. Lowe,

This is a great clip. Thank you for posting it.

  19. marK Says:

    hamaca,

First of all, debates between the GOP nominee and the Democrat nominee are more than 30 months away. Who knows what the situation will be by then. Obama might not even be running. It could be an open election.

Second, if Obama was stupid enough to overreach on the debate restrictions as Coakley did, the GOP would beat him over the head with it with the same results.

  20. Joe Hanna Says:

I expect the campaign will actually NOT focus heavily on foreign policy. I know it sounds nuts but I think 1980 and 2000 are the better guides for how we should approach. From the side as a knock out rather than a steady jab. Economy is where the campaign will rise or fall on (assuming no major Madrid/London like terrorist incident between now and then)

  21. still hurting in AZ Says:

Can we pull the separate doanations report for the respective PACs for the 4th quarter. They should have been filed by now, no? (Looking for Palin, Pawlenty, Huckabee, and Romney.)

  22. bpb Says:

Romney puke. There is something in the wings which will bit Romney in the backside.

  23. marK Says:

#20:“Can we pull the separate doanations report for the respective PACs for the 4th quarter. They should have been filed by now, no? (Looking for Palin, Pawlenty, Huckabee, and Romney.)”

They are required to file their year-end reports today. The FEC generally doesn’t post them until the following business day. So don’t expect the hard numbers for all of them until Feb 1.

Now if they release them to the press before then, that is different. Romney has released his. Still, I’m waiting for the actual FEC filings to compare apples to apples.

  24. hamaca Says:

    21. Happens to everyone–nothing new.

  25. GeorgiaPeach Says:

Could there be anyone better suited to lead our country back to economic prosperity?

  26. AH Says:

    Romney/Thune or Romney/Jindal 2012!

  27. MK in Arizona Says:

I also thought Romney’s interview with Neil Cavuto on Fox News in the last few days was great also. Neil even mentioned at the end that Mitt would be a good commentator because he knows what he is talking about and can explain things in an understandable no nonsense way. I can’t wait to vote for Romney in 2012!

  28. Hass Says:

Pat Toomey in Pennsylvania, Meg Whitman in California, Nikki Haley in South Carolina, and then on to 2012!

  29. Chip Says:

    Mitt Romney/Meg Whitman 2012!

  30. Flip Dixon Says:

Romney’s a big fan of Bernanke, which is consistent with is pro-bailout, big government policies.

He’s going to sink like a stone in 2012.

  31. aft Says:

In a debate, do you suppose Obama would try to pull the experience card?

I think our guy should say, “let’s talk about the country’s experience being governed by you.”

  32. JonH Says:

Flip…. based on what you said, the flip side is the truth! Can’t you see it? Just give Mitt more opportunities to explain and illustrate facts and truth like in his interview with George S. and he can only rise to the top of the heap. He is extremely fluent in facts and has a great comprehension of economic principles. If you really knew about him and his broad skills and talents too, you couldn’t say what you said because what you said is incomprehensible when the facts are known. You’re missing the boat! I suspect you could be blinded by bigotry–I hope not.

  33. leslie monson Says:

I was so glad to see that the media was interested in Mitt Romney’s response to Obama’s address to our country. He’s a great man with great ideas. I would like to hear more from him. I thought he handled George S’s unfriendly and intimidating interview very well. He’s a man we could be proud to represent us under all circumstances.

  34. Flip Dixon Says:

#32, I’ve studied Romney’s record in detail, and the facts are on my side.

Accusing me of bigotry is a common tactic of Rom-bots who have nothing substantive to say in defense of their candidate.
