One person has made a case for abstinence better than anyone else, at least in making the case to young women.
The obvious winner is Levi Johnston. If you want to warn young women about the nasty side effects that can result from engaging in premarital sex, forget STDs and just tell them, “You may think your boyfriend is really sweet, but that’s what Bristol Palin thought.”
To write about Levi Johnston is a challenge. He could be called a parasite for his attempts to cash in on his relationship to Sarah Palin’s daughter with total and complete disregard for the welfare of his son and the ability to give his son something close to a normal life. However, Johnston’s conduct would cause some parasites to blush.
HoJohnston isn’t alone in this. He wouldn’t be able to do anything without the help of the media which has given a teenager with no moral character access to millions of people because of getting another teenager pregnant.
Without the media, Johnston might straighten up and become an average, ordinary, decent human being. However, the media attention makes that harder. Johnston may not be a college boy, but he knows how to play the national media like a harp, and he’ll continue to grab headlines from a media that has never ended its “anything goes” war on Sarah Palin.
In other notes:
- NCIS turns to Christian Bashing in apparent attempt to claim moral equivalence between Christianity and radical Islam.
- John Hawkins makes a compelling argument that Gridlock is good. Money quote, “If, as a nation, we could simply go back and wipe every new law off the books for the last 10 years, on the whole, we would be better off as a country.”
- Deal Hudson saysthat the Health Care debate will come down to who Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mi.) really is.
- Pastor Eric Speckhard proposes a logical future step for the ELCA based on this year’s policy change on homosexuality. (Hat Tip: Crunchy Cons.)

Or you could just use a condom.

#1 There’s no condom for emotional pain. There’s no condom for losing your honor and integrity.

And it must be said that condoms aren’t 100% effective.

Great insights into the virtues of inclusiveness and temple prostitution.

Last time I checked my facts of life booklet, it took TWO to make babies. So, although Levi Johnston certainly does qualify for the ‘abstence’ award, so does Bristol. Or dident mom teach her how babies are made?

#5 It’s wonderful satire. Every point Pastor Speckhard makes in support of temple prostitution has been used by ELCAs to support their new policies promoting sodomy.

Doug,
I loved his use of liberal Christians’ favorite buzzwords and platitudes.

Bristol made a mistake and is taking responsibility for her actions. Levi Johnston is choosing to live as an undeserved celebrity who’s wrecking his kid’s life in order to get a few minutes in the sun. Big difference.

The Temple Prostitution article is hilarious — regardless of views on gay clergy, I would think.
Too bad most churches are too backward to adopt such a great idea.

By the way, Adam, it’s ‘ELCA’, not ‘ECLA’.

Its funny how everyone is who is now attacking Levi Johnson was praising him in 2008. Its also funny how no one ever blaims the Palin family.
December 31st, 2009 at 6:24 am
“Its also funny how no one ever blaims the Palin family.” But, for some, the Palin family is always to blame. Some like to excuse Mrs. Palin’s ex-bother-in-law for Tazergate and other like to say that the only reason Trak is serving our country in Iraq is because he would get into trouble in this country. Oh and then there are those who pick on Trig and Piper. There should be little wonder why some of us always give the Palins the benefit of the doubt. We have heard a few too many cries of wolf.

Levi wasn’t behaving the same way in 2008 that he did in 2009. It looked like he was going to work hard, take responsibility for his actions, and take care of his kid. In 2009, it all fell apart in that regards and he decided to become a celebrity leech.

The Palin family knew Levi for years. There must have been some clues into his character. Yet, the Palins pushed Bristol to marry the creep so as not to damage the McCain/Palin ticket. They tried to pretend that everything was just hunky dorry. That is just about as self-serving as it gets, my friends. Palin cared more about her political career than her own daughter’s welfare/future life. The saddest thing in the book was the story about Bristol calling her mom, crying, saying the whole world knew about her pregnancy. I’m sorry, what kind of a mother chooses to put her child through that kind of hell? I certainly do not know anyone who would. But then, I don’t hang out with narcissists, either.
Bristol, Trig and the rest of the family take a back seat to Palin’s political career all the time.
OJ, I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone excuse Wooten. And although it is claimed, I’ve never heard anyone diss Trig or Piper, either.

“And although it is claimed, I’ve never heard anyone diss Trig or Piper, either.” Then I guess there are not many liberals in your corner or Oregon. It is not too difficult to find a few extreme liberal malcontents in my neck of the woods who wants Trig dead.

Levi Johnson obviously has some problems, but he has made reasonable efforts to be a father for his child. It’s the Palins’ who are dictating terms and pushing him away as a father. How can he compete with the ‘Christian’ media Juggernaut behind the Palins?
I’ve looked in to the record and actual statements made and Sarah Palin is no more pro-abstinence than Hugh Heffner. She is a member of Feminists for Life which is a pro-contraception organization. Her response to the Eagle Forum questionnaire was a rejection of EXPLICIT sex education, not comprehensive sex education. Her comment to Greta Van Sustren was that “abstinence seems unrealistic”. Bristol is a spokesperson for Candie’s Foundation which is silently associated with Planned Parenthood.
Palin’s have no pro-abstinence record. It’s only hyper-active attacks from the left that generate sympathy for her on that issue.

18. OJ, how about an actual quote from someone who is not a lunatic/far-far leftist/hate-monger?
Honestly, that claim by Palin that everyone is out to diss Trig is just ridiculous. It doesn’t happen.
December 31st, 2009 at 1:11 pm
19. Interesting.
More evidence that Palin is not necessarily who people want her to be.
