2012 GOP Primary Polling Apparently Under Way

Long-time Race42012 reader, and Oklahoma resident Jamison, report that he received a call from a pollster on the 2012 GOP Primary today:

The caller said it was being done by “IMC Polling”, on the 2012 GOP Presidential Primary.

They asked which candidate would you support: Mike Huckabee, Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, Rudy Giuliani, Bobby Jindal (pronounced jin-dell!), someone else, or not sure. I answered Huckabee (of course) and they said thank you for taking the poll.

I could not find a “IMC Polling.” I was able to find a polling firm based out of the U.K. named ICM Research. However, there is no record on their website of any poll they conducted outside of the U.K. except for one regarding Swine Flu.

I did find record of Ron Paul supporter complaining of Rep. Paul being excluded from a poll conducted by the IMC or The Independent Media Center.

The Independent Media Center, though, describes itself as:

a network of collectively run media outlets for the creation of radical, accurate, and passionate tellings of the truth. We work out of a love and inspiration for people who continue to work for a better world, despite corporate media’s distortions and unwillingness to cover the efforts to free humanity.

History

The Independent Media Center was established by various independent and alternative media organizations and activists in 1999 for the purpose of providing grassroots coverage of the World Trade Organization (WTO) protests in Seattle. The center acted as a clearinghouse of information for journalists, and provided up-to-the-minute reports, photos, audio and video footage through its website. Using the collected footage, the Seattle Independent Media Center produced a series of five documentaries, uplinked every day to satellite and distributed throughout the United States to public access stations.

I rather doubt that an organization that is dedicated to the, “a network of collectively run media outlets for the creation of radical, accurate, and passionate tellings of the truth” is going to be polling Republican primary voters in Oklahoma.

So this is likely a national primary poll being conducted on behalf of a candidate or PAC. It would be rather interesting, of course, to know the details.  If anyone knows anything more about this poll, feel free to post the information in the comments or email us at race42008@gmail.com .

    KWN,

If your theory is correct, what do you make of the pollster not including Palin among the names? Is someone trying to get a good idea as to where her voters would go should she not run?

  2. Tommy Boy Says:

    KWN,

If I had to bet on the candidate that would conduct this poll, it would be your boy given his inclusion and Palin’s exclusion.

  3. KWN Says:

    My thoughts exactly TB…

  4. Tommy Boy Says:

    KWN,

    Point 1 or Point 2?

  5. KWN Says:

Who’s “my boy” your referring to? I don’t have “a boy” right now.

  6. Tommy Boy Says:

    Rudy

  7. Tommy Boy Says:

    KWN,

I didn’t mean it in a rude way either. I apologize if it came out that way.

  8. KWN Says:

    Point 1

  9. KWN Says:

I didn’t mean it in a rude way either. I apologize if it came out that way.

No worries man. It was a misunderstanding on my part.

You see, I think there is less than one chance in a billion that Rudy runs for President again. So the thought that you meant him didn’t even cross my mind. I thought you were implying that I was a secret supporter of someone else. So it’s totally “my bad.”

  10. Texasconserv Says:

Well ya know it can’t be Huckpac paying for the poll, they don’t have enough money for it.

  12. Kristofer Lorelli Says:

KWN, I believe this is the Clarus Research Group.

  13. Tommy Boy Says:

    Kris,

Why would Clarus poll without Palin?

  14. KWN Says:

KWN, I believe this is the Clarus Research Group.

    Hmmm… That is very interesting.

  15. Kristofer Lorelli Says:

    #13,

    ?

  16. Tommy Boy Says:

    #15,

I would think Clarus wouldn’t do polling for candidates or PACs. Perhaps I’m wrong.

  17. Kristofer Lorelli Says:

They do assist leftist non-proft groups.

    TB,

Giuliani’s inclusion in a 2012 poll wouldn’t be all that unusual. Fox has included him in every one of their 2012 polls. Rudy garnered 13% among GOPers in the late July survey. In FNC/OD’s past two polls, Giuliani led the field or came in 2nd among GOP-leaning Independents.

I think there is less than one chance in a billion that Rudy runs for President again.

You may be right, but I think any oddsmaker worth his salt would shave at least seven or eight of those zeros off after watching this exchange between Barbara Walters and Rudy Giuliani on The View last week.

WALTERS: I want to ask you a couple of questions about your private options. You said the other day that you were thinking about running for governor and you won’t decide until November, right?

    GIULIANI: That’s right.

    WALTERS: Governor of New York.

WALTERS: OK, if you don’t do it, are your political days over?

GIULIANI: I don’t know. A lot of people whose political days are over somehow have resurrected themselves.

WALTERS: Would you run again? Would you be a candidate for the Republicans if…?

GIULIANI: I don’t know. I’m not thinking about it right now. You mean President?

WALTERS: But you might? But you’re not turning it down? You’re not saying no?

    GIULIANI: Are you offering? (Laughing)

WALTERS: If I could offer… (Laughing)

    BEHAR: He’s a politician. He’s evasive.

WALTERS: OK, but he didn’t say no.

WALTERS (to Judith Giuliani, seated in the audience): Should he run for President?

JUDITH GIULIANI: I think Rudy would be great at anything he does, and he knows I’ll support him whatever makes him happy.

  19. Tommy Boy Says:

Any guesses on why Perry voluntarily took his name out of the straw poll this weekend? He’s still going to attend and give a speech.

    I’ve got a crazy theory…

  20. Kristofer Lorelli Says:

#19 – that is normal…he does not need that speculation when he faces a tough primary campaign.

  21. Kristofer Lorelli Says:

sigh……David Gergen suggested Obama could have the same fate as Lincoln, because of the Tea Party signs.

  22. Justin Martin Says:

I got a phone call from them, too, and I also live in Oklahoma. I’ve never heard of IMC Polling before, so I was wondering about this poll. Hmmmm…

  23. Justin Martin Says:

    And I voted Romney…of course… :P

  24. OHIO JOE Says:

As a realist, I am not surprised that Mrs. Palin was not polled. Unfortunately, I do not think she really wants the job. However, it was a bit odd that they polled Mr. Giuliani, Mr. Mr. Gingrich and Mr. Jindal since it is even more doubtful that any of these 3 will run. It is even more bizzare that Mr. Pawlenty was not in the polled. I guess they figure he is not too popular in Oklahoma. If was asked such a question, I would probably say that I was undecided because I am not ready to jump camps despite realizing that the chances of being able to vote for my first choice is slim. As an aside, soon after I became one of Mrs. Palin’s friends on facebook, some guy from the South became a facebook friend. He has now stated that Mr. Romney is his back up choice. It is interesting indeed to see where the Palinites will go next. While I have given it thought, I will not total commit to any other camp anytime soon.

  25. Texasconserv Says:

Why is Romney not speaking out on this issue?

  26. OHIO JOE Says:

“Why is Romney not speaking out on this issue?” Good point Texas. Mr. Romney has been quiet on a lot of things lately, but perhaps he is doing something behind the scenes. It is a good thing the Mr. Romney is going to the Value votes summit because if nothing else, he is in the public eye.

  27. Martha Says:

OJ, Romney picks his battles carefully, but he has not been exactly quiet. He does op eds and interviews all the time. But he know not to over-expose himself. Yesterday, he responded to Obama’s abandoning missile defense with an excellect op ed.

Also, OJ. Palin wants to be POTUS. I don’t understand how you don’t realize this.

  28. OHIO JOE Says:

“Also, OJ. Palin wants to be POTUS. I don’t understand how you don’t realize this.” If that is the case, I guess you can read the tea leaves better than me.

  29. jerseyrepublican Says:

Ohio, I have to agree with Martha…Palin is most likely running and she is in the process of training for the marathon. Don’t jump ships yet.

  30. Jamison Says:

Since I posted a status on FB about getting the poll call, another friend here in Oklahoma said that they also received the call from “IMC Polling”.

  31. OHIO JOE Says:

Haha, well thanks for the encouragement Jersey, I will certainly not jump ship on being a Palinite, but I won’t stay home if she is not on the ballot. Maybe she will run, but the way the cookie is crumbling from my vantage point, I do not see. So while I am as true as possible to Palinism, I am giving some thought to the second best thing among the other 3. After seing Mrs. Palin’s great articles on Facebook and seeing how she was able to shape the health care debate, it will be difficult to vote with excitement for Mr. Romney, Mr. Pawlenty or Mr. Huckabee, but asssuming Mrs. Palin will not be in the 2012 picture, I have a duty to vote for one of the other 3 both in the primary and the general. There is still a lot of water to go under the bridge so we will see what happens.

  32. OHIO JOE Says:

“Since I posted a status on FB about getting the poll call, another friend here in Oklahoma said that they also received the call from “IMC Polling”.” Jamison, are you refering to Mr. Martin or another person yet still?

  33. Jamison Says:

    32
    Another person.

  34. Jamison Says:

    32
    Another person – I don’t know Justin personally. :D

  35. greg Says:

We need some body that obama and his ADVISTERS are affraid of running against so my Choices are Romney and I WOULD even vote rudy just to send obama home after his 1st term!!!! We don’t need a softy candidate (mccain) plus we need a candidate that can raise the $$ mccain did not !!

  36. Jamison Says:

Hmmm…. why would someone be polling just Oklahoma?

  37. Aron Goldman Says:

    Pawlenty takes a right turn
As the governor’s national profile rises, GOP activists say he appears to be working hard to get the attention of the party’s conservatives.

  38. Jamison Says:

I will try to find out if any other Okies got the call – I posted on my blog asking for folks to let me know if they got it as well.

  39. Race42012 Editor-in-Chief Says:

Thanks Jamison! Let us know what you find.

  40. Sean Says:

The second wave of swine could have arrived in the UK, more information can be found at Swine Flu Britain

  41. Liz Says:

    Yep no softie candidates.

  42. Jamison Says:

My dad was wondering if the fact that Oklahoma was the only state for all counties to go for McCain had any bearing on why (it appears) only Oklahoma was polled.

  43. Glo Says:

Rudy, Rudy, Rudy ! he is resurrected again! The government of Obama is chaotic and
leaderless. We need somebdy like Rudy who is a great leader , who can put conflicting groups into a consistent focus and solve the mess that the Obama and
the Democrats have brought about in such a short span of just 9 months. He is a
charismatic politician wwho will appeal to more voters, than Palin Huckabee, or Romney and the rest of the often mentioned names.

  44. Jamison Says:

I haven’t been able to find anyone else in Oklahoma who received the poll, but haven’t found anyone outside of OK who got it.
