Joe Wilson, the “Bushlied” Era and McCain’s “honorable friends”

Rep. Joe Wilson (R-SC) publicly called President Barack Obama a liar during his health care address to a joint session of Congress. He unequivocally apologized at his first opportunity.

What has most surprised me about the aftermath is how muted is the criticism of Wilson, and I think this fact is quite instructiive, and will address why this is so after a review of the recent history of “liar” labeling.

Within about 72 hours of the Fall of Saddam, the leadership of the Democratic Party broke the post-911 unity and turned on President George W. Bush when stockpiles of WMD were not discovered. They variously accused him of lying about Saddam’s possession of WMD in order to trick us into war or stated that he ”misled” us into war. The latter is polite beltway speak for lie. Using the “misled” term allowed you to drink cocktails with McCain and Graham in Georgetown.

No matter that one who actually did mislead a nation into war would be guilty of high crimes and misdemeanors deserving of Impeachment or worse. No matter that there was no evidence of same. Thus was launched the “Bushlied Era” of American history when the Democratic Party made arguments for free that Saddam’s lawyer, OBL and Iran would have paid them to make. Thus did the Democrats embolden our foreign enemies to fight on until their pansie asses gained power so that they could ultimately prevail in the War on Terror.

I have never forgiven the Democrats that lied about President Bush. None admitted their lies and asked for forgiveness.

I have never forgiven the Democrats that acquiesced in the lies by their silence.

And finally, I have never forgiven the Republicans that remained polite in the face of the lies, so much greater is their love of themselves and the Senate than of their Country.

I am left with a very low opinion of the elected politicians in Washington and have very low expectations of them.

Decorum rules that forbid calling liars what they are what Edmund Burke and Martin King referred to as how the doing of nothing by good people allows evil to triumph.

Hence, my joy that a man in Washington finally called out the 20-year pew-parked butt in Jeremiah Wright’s Hate America Church for what he is.

And, btw, if anyone is offended, I apologize.

This article is why I keep coming back to this website. Mike you have said exactly what needed to be said but for that enemy of all sane people, political correctness, has not be said. Thank you.
I remember that Terry McCalif(sp?) the former DNC chairman said at the beginning of
Bush’s first term that the Dems had to negate the trustworthiness that Bush held with the voters. But unspoken by the dems was because their guy, Clinton, had cast the Democratic party with being an enabler to his lies in the eyes of the voters.

You made my day Faye! truly

  3. American Ideals Says:

Meanwhile, back in the real world….Bush was and will be remembered as the worst president in our modern era. Lying, torture, spending a balanced budget into the worst deficit ever, extreme partisanship, disastrous foreign policy, disastrous domestic policies, Katrina, 9/11…..the list goes on and on, and all of it documented, tragic, and fact.

Sorry, but Bush is still an idiot and the administration was still the most corrupt, partisan and willfully incompetent in modern history. So much so nobody wanted to be labeled a republican in the last election. Nobody wanted him to campaign with them, for them, and he wasn’t even allowed to speak at the GOP convention! Bush? Bush who? Ha!

  4. OHIO JOE Says:

Great Article Gamecock. It is good that people like you and Adam Graham have the guts to stand up for our party members like Mr. Wilson and Mr. Bush. Don’t let the American Ideals of the world and the moderates in our own party get you down.

  5. Flip Dixon Says:

President Bush was a gentleman, whereas Joe Wilson was not. I would never equate the two, or make Wilson into a hero.

I normally just read the articles on this web site and not the comments,so I don’t really know who AI is but this administration is looking to be even more catastrophic than his or her claims about Bush. I wonder if AI has ever heard of the ice storms that hit Kentucky this past winter. It knocked out the electricity to large parts of the state for weeks in the worst part of the winter cold. The democratic MSM did not cover this, even FOX was not that aggressive in it’s coverage. What exactly did this administration do to help this “red state”? Electrical crews that had worked in the Katrina stricken areas said that destruction from the ice storms in Kentucky were worse. Funny how I missed hearing that the state was declared a disaster area, just never heard those words and I looked for them hard. So Obama had his Katrina but nobody reported it so he gets a pass from letting this disaster continue longer than it needed to. This AI is just one example of the ineptitude of this administration.

  7. LutieT Says:

I agree we need to stand up to the radical left like wilson did. Republicans only lost a majority because they stopped being the party of little govt. and instead increased spending and regulation. ie. sarbanes oxley and perscription drug plan. Look at the rasmussen poll that said 75% of repubs think republican reps are too liberal and 55% of independants think the same we need a TRUE CONSERVATIVE revolution and throw out all libs and RINOs including the biggest RINO of them all John McCain.
