Obama Approval Rating Drops to New Low

President Obama now sports a -7 approval rating among likely voters according to Rasmussen’s Daily Tracking poll:

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Monday shows that 30% of the nation’s voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as President. Forty-one percent (41%) Strongly Disapprove giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -11 (see trends).

Twenty-nine percent (29%) are confident that Congress knows what it’s doing when it comes to the economy. If Americans could vote to keep or replace the entire Congress, 57% would throw out all the legislators and start over again. Just 25% would vote to keep the Congress.

The Presidential Approval Index is calculated by subtracting the number who Strongly Disapprove from the number who Strongly Approve. It is updated daily at 9:30 a.m. Eastern (sign up for free daily e-mail update). Updates also available on Twitter and Facebook.

Overall, 46% of voters say they at least somewhat approve of the President’s performance. That’s the lowest level of total approval yet measured for Obama. Fifty-three percent (53%) now disapprove. Eighty-one percent (81%) of Democrats approve while 83% of Republicans disapprove. As for those not affiliated with either major party, 66% disapprove. See other recent demographic highlights from the tracking polls.

Sarah Palin plans first trip to Asia
Former Alaska governor set for initial commercial speaking engagement

Former U.S. vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin, once questioned about her lack of foreign policy experience, will make her first trip to Asia in September.

The former Alaska governor will visit Hong Kong to address the CLSA Investors Forum, a well-known annual conference of global investment managers, the host announced Monday.

Bill Clinton, Al Gore and Alan Greenspan have spoken at the event, hosted by brokerage and investment group CLSA Asia-Pacific Markets.

“Our keynote speakers are notable luminaries who often address topics that go beyond traditional finance such as geopolitics,” company spokeswoman Simone Wheeler said in a statement.

“We just felt it would be a fabulous opportunity for CLSA clients to hear from Mrs. Palin,” Wheeler said, adding that CLSA approached Palin with the offer.

She said the conference aimed to present investors “a diversity of views that potentially influence decision-makers who help shape the markets.”

The Sept. 23 address will mark Palin’s first commercial speaking engagement, according to CLSA. Her speaking fees were not disclosed.

It will be closed to the media, and the topic has not yet been confirmed.

Palin was criticized during last year’s presidential election for her lack of experience in international affairs. She received her first passport in 2007 to visit Alaska National Guard members serving in Kuwait and Germany.

    Palin gets 1,070+ invitations
    http://dyn.politico.com/printstory.cfm?uuid=7081DA07-18FE-70B2-A876E29B07164809

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin this week will begin accepting and rejecting the more than 1,070 invitations she has received for paid speeches and political appearances since she resigned from office, aides said.

Twenty speakers’ bureaus made offers to represent her. She has signed with Washington Speakers Bureau, which represents everyone from George and Laura Bush to Bob Woodward and Katie Couric to Alan Greenspan, Colin Powell and Rudy Giuliani.

More than 950 requests for speeches have poured in for Palin, and over 120 candidates for office have asked her to appear, including folks running for Senate, House and state Legislature, aides said.

Palin will be doing both paid speeches, which are expected to go for six figures apiece, and unpaid speeches for political and charitable causes, including Christian organizations, groups that support families with special-needs children and military families.

Palin has made no commitments so far, and Washington Speakers Bureau will start responding to the invitations this week.

She’s about 85 percent finished with her book, due out this spring from HarperCollins. Then she’ll begin looking through the inch-and-a-half thick file her lawyer, Robert Barnett, has built of offers for network and cable pundit gigs, documentaries and business opportunities.

What I’m wondering is whether it’s even conceivable that his Strongly Disapprove number could ever top 50%. He would become a toxic pariah and the GOP would re-emerge as the dominant party. One reason would be that Democrats would be forced to defend their president all the way down. After all, Obama’s disfavor would be engendered by a strict adherence to core Democrat principles, sub-sequently repudiated by the electorate. It would be an educational experience for Democrats.

I am as strong a Sarah Palin supporter as can be but did you notice the topic of this thread is NOT Sarah Palin but Barack Obama and his declining fortunes. Nowhere in the explanation for the falling poll numbers is Sarah Palin mentioned. To conjecture that she could be partially responsible for this phenomenon is one thing but to indulge in non sequitur about her possible future itinerary is not becoming and frankly distracts from this momentous occasion of Obama hitting an all-time low in his approval rating at 46%.

60 percent disapproval among whites? There is NO WAY THE GOP DOESN’T GAIN SEATS if these numbers hold. Your average red district that just elected a “blue dog” to congress over the past two cycles have typically 80-90 percent white populations.

There is no way that the Democrats can win in these places unless they run far away from Obama.

  22. Bill Says:

Democrats are already distancing themselves from Obama. Look at what they are doing to him on healthcare.

  23. Kevin Says:

#19, they’re finally getting candidates against Reid…as for Pelosi, I doubt she’ll ever lose reelection. It would need to be a fantastic year for the GOP (50+ House seats), she would need to be very unpopular and seen as having ignored the left, and the GOP would need an extremely moderate and charismatic candidate…and then maybe there would be a 10% chance of her losing.

  24. greg Says:

how does our party STOP ACORN come election time I am so sick of them !?

  25. Kevin Says:

As a Democrat, I think Romney has the best chance at beating Obama. He could run a very strong campaign against him.

Worst, probably Santorum, but he isn’t running. So of those running, I think Palin would fo worst. I can see a scenario where the Republicans gain large majorities in Congress, but Obama narrowly wins reelection thanks to people not wanting Sarah to be President.

    ===

Cali can’t qualify for many of this stuff. Not the mortgage rewrite (houses too expensive to qualify), not much of the housing credit ($8,000 is nothing compared to how much the homes are here), not the auto bailouts, not any of the bailouts really, etc. Californians are stupid pure and simple.

  27. greg Says:

I see obama a one termer like Jimmy carter!!!!

  28. greg Says:

I just noticed something Obama like to travel so much Why doesn’t he do some good and travel to CA to spend time with these families I see on tv of these huge CA wildfires?

  29. greg Says:

I just saying…. IF it was W. bush the liberal media would be screaming that he has not been to CA for a wild fire visit…

  30. Right Says:

If the president has to be in Cali everytime something burns, they might as well move the White House here.

  31. American Ideals Says:

And yet the state is responsible for 13% of our GDP.

  32. Kristofer Lorelli Says:

#31, pretty accurate since it has 13% of the US population.
