Giving Birth to a Non-Story

In case you missed it, although you probably do not care, the beltway cable news pundits have decided to declare a rhetorical war on one another.  Ironically enough…it was all a misunderstanding.

Maddow called Dobbs a racist for saying Obama was not a citizen.  Dobbs called Maddow a tea-bagger (the urban dictionary version).  Dobbs thanked O’Reilly for standing up for him.  O’Reilly accused Dobbs of skulking for ratings.  Todd called for the firing of Beck.  Beck accused Obama of racism.  Schultz called Beck a ‘hate merchant’.  Fox accused MSNBC and CNN of promoting everything Obama.  CNN’s Martin compared those who are requesting a copy of Obama’s birth certificate, to Holocaust deniers. The President’s of the three networks are denying anything is wrong.

To think, all of this began because a liberal blog purposely mis-stated that Lou Dobbs denied the truth of Obama’s US citizenship.  He didn’t deny it…he just wanted the document released for transparency. The network hosts are spending so much time talking about one another, you’d think they would actually read the transcripts, instead of relying on second-hand gossip from a teenager with 640k of memory.

A famous performer better overdose soon, because I cannot watch a second more of this ego-fed slander war, between;

…the communists at CNN, the right-wingers at Fox and the liars at MSNBC.

They all do it with smile and a pat on the back, but it is still destructive and uncivil behavior. Please I want some authentic civil behavior. You don’t have to be right every time!!!!

  2. Thunder Says:

It’s just a slow news cycle, and will go away as soon as some note worthy (or not so note worthy happens).

  3. Matthew E. Miller Says:

Look, I don’t see how anyone takes those “calls for transparency” seriously. In every other case it’s recognized by those on the outside as obvious code for squeamish conspiracists. Light truthers are forever saying “look, I’m not saying Bush did it, but if he didn’t, wouldn’t it be easy enough to clear up by releasing X, Y, and Z?” Andrew Sullivan is forever writing, “look, as a journalist it’s my DUTY to dig around Sarah Palin’s Nether regions and hold her accountable. She could clear this all up with a simple DNA test administered by yours truly”. Whenever anyone calls for transparency, or claims to be “just asking questions” on a prominent conspiracy issue, it’s a dead giveaway that, yes, they are a Birther, truther, etc, and they’re just too squeamish to admit it.

  4. Mike gamecock DeVine Says:

Agreed – I only watch the Sunday shows except that I will watch some of those networks’ shows depending on who is being interviewed, like Newt and Dick Morris or Rove.

  5. Hunter Says:

I’m subleasing an apartment for the summer and decided not to bother paying for cable. Between this and the Michael Jackson coverage it doesn’t sound like I’ve missed much.

  6. Heath Says:

Why do a front page special for a “non-story”.

    Strange man.

  7. Aron Goldman Says:

    Too Hot for Fox News
The host of Fox’s Freedom Watch makes Glenn Beck look like Jim Lehrer. Michelle Goldberg on the online gabfest too outrageous for the network.

  8. Liz Says:

Don’t they know it has been decreed that Obama is post racial? Everyone must be carted off to re-education camp, immediately.

  9. Bob Hovic Says:

I’m with Matthew — if Dobbs isn’t truly a Birther then he should just shut up about it. Why is “transparency” needed? Is there some great controversy, is there doubt on the part of a significant portion of the public?

There is no great public controversy over this that needs to be clarified — nobody believes Obama isn’t a citizen, with the exception of a small group of wackos. Which group, it seems, includes Dobbs.

  10. Illinoisguy Says:

The discussion is as to whether he is a natural born citizen, two completely different things.

  11. Kristofer Lorelli Says:

I also agree with Matthew……but, everyone in the beltway understands what the REAL issue is.

This is no different then the media knowing Sanford had an affair, but waited until he was in the act and indirectly draweing the story out without writing the obvious (and having 100% confirmation).

Obama’s birth name is slightly different then what he professionally referes to himself by.

    BOH, not BHO.

You’re right of course, let me amend my sentence: “… nobody believes Obama isn’t a natural-born citizen, born in Hawaii of an American-citizen mother, with the exception of a small group of wackos. Which group, it seems, includes Dobbs.”

  13. Jack Says:

The time lines, places, actions, motives, when analyzed, support, and are consistent with, what is the answer to the Obama birth puzzle:

Obama’s grandmother is his mother and his mother is his sister.

Think about it. Review all the facts and claims.
