From a 20 point to a 9 point gap between Specter and Toomey. That’s good news for Toomey. It’s still really early – so Toomey’s got a lot of time to increase name recognition as it appears many Pennsylvanians do not have an opinion of him yet.

  2. MVRed.com Says:

Sestak-Toomey would be an even better race. Imagine the Dems backing that liberal and having him lose to a pretty right-wing conservative.

  3. PAConservative Says:

Reports in PA papers today indidcate Sestak will challenge Specter. The Sestak-Specter race will be much closer than this poll indicates. He is an excellent candidate for the Democrats and once his steadiness is compared to Specter’s political expediency, I would not be surprised to see Sestak win that primary. He is not yet well known outside of the Philadelphia area, but will surge in the polls once he begins to campaign in other parts of the state. As a consevative, I would not vote for Sestak, but I admire his anti-establishment straight shooter approach.

  4. tim Says:

sestak won’t win because rendell and nutter will turn out blacks in philly for specter, and thats how you win a dem primary, with a majority of the vote coming from philly.

sestak will cause some problems throughout the rest of the state though.

toomey went from 20 to 9, and thats all without any establishment backing. once ridge and co. get on the toomey bandwagon he can knock those numbers down even more.

  5. Sean M Says:

Toomey is definitely in the ball game and there are plenty of innings left.

  6. Tommy Boy Says:

Unfortunately with this poll, it appears that Republicans constitute a far greater percentage of the electorate than the percentage that they will likely comprise of the electorate in November 2010. 43% of Republicans? Don’t think so as the dems would have to be pretty depressed for that to happen.

  7. Michael Stubel Says:

As a PA resident, let me just say this:

Gerlach is a better candidate than Toomey. But no one here will agree.

  8. Tommy Boy Says:

Are you saying that you think Gerlach would be a better Senator than Toomey or that Gerlach would give Specter a greater challenge than Toomey?

  9. Aron Goldman Says:

    Party ID breakdown: 47.1% (D), 43.4% (R), 9.5% (I).

According to information available from the Pennsylvania Department of State, Bureau of Elections as of April 26, 2009, 51.2 percent of Pennsylvania voters are registered as Democrats, 37.0 percent are registered as Republicans and 11.8 percent are registered as Independents or with a “third party.”

  10. JA Pruce Says:

PA would be a lot more interesting State if Lyn Swann were Governor.

  11. Ben Hodge Says:

Any politician would love to have Toomey’s numbers right now. Only 39% have heard enough to form an opinion of Toomey, and Toomey is getting 37% of the vote.
