Boo hoo hoo, Alaska misses its pork. Sarah Palin and the Alaska Republican Party say that Mark Begich should resign and run against Ted Stevens in a special election:
Gov. Sarah Palin (R-Alaska) called on Sen. Mark Begich (D-Alaska ) Thursday to step down from his seat and run in a special election in the wake of the Justice Department’s decision to drop corruption charges against former Sen. Ted Stevens (R-Alaska). Begich narrowly defeated Stevens in 2008, a contest overshadowed by Stevens’ October conviction.
Palin’s call came after a reporter at the Fairbanks News Miner emailed her a copy of a statement by Alaska Republican Party Chairman Randy Ruedrich calling for Begich to step down.
Asked for her response, Palin simply wrote back: “I absolutely agree.”
When the reporter wrote back to confirm that Palin meant she’d like to see Begich resign in order to hold a special election, the governor responded: “Yes.”
In an email to POLITICO, Palin spokeswoman Meg Stapleton confirmed the governor’s position. “She absolutely agrees that there should be a special election,” Stapleton wrote. “Stepping down to hold the special election would be the right thing to do.”
Can’t say I disagree, honestly. But Lord knows Begich isn’t going anywhere. For his part, he says that he absolutely will not resign.

Oh well, we’ll just get rid up him in less than 6 years.

Elections are done. Whining is unbecoming. Stevens was and is still guilty, the overturn happened on procedure, not on his guilt.

I could see the argument if it was a Democratic administration who brought the prosecution, along with clear evidence of a politically motivated prosecution to help elect the Democrat. But it wasn’t.
So this is stupid.

Definitely true, but it still would have had an impact on the results.

Are we now all against playing politics?
Enjoy the political theatre.

I frankly am tired of the Democrats using the legal system to go after republicans. In the mean time Tax Cheats are given Cabinet posts.

#6 – You do realize tat a Republican administrations DOJ went after Stevens, and a Democratic administrations’ DOJ vacated his conviction and dismissed his case. Are you trying to be a parody?

#7, uhm…same people involved.

In fact, Stevens is not guilty in that he has NOT been proven guilty. The prosecution withheld exculpatory evidence and apparently manufactured testimony. The idea that the evidence has NO impact on whether or not he’s guilty is naive and stupid.

I’d like to see Palin serve two full terms as governor and then run for Begich’s seat.
If she runs for Prez with this kind of experience in 2016, she could be a real contender.

Off subject.
Levi doing the Tyra show on Monday. Ya’ll come back now, ya hear.

This is very smart politics for Governor Palin. The right thing to do is for Begich to resign the seat. It will be interesting to see if Sarah is willing to invoke executive privilege and order a new election – I’m not familiar enough with Alaska law to know whether or not this is a possibility, but if it is she should seize it.

I don’t know who looks sillier. Palin – um she like called for him to resign!! Or Alex for writing a Gamecockesqe drivel of a post!
Ordering a new election you’ve outdone yourself JA you are my hero!

The one who will unseat Palin.
I’ll be sending a cheque this man’s way. Just reading his resume tells me he is what AK truly needs

JA. Palin herself is not familiar enough with AK law. She does what she wants, and said (her words, not mine) she’ll do it until the courts tell her NO. It appears the consitution in AK might be telling her no.

[...] This is not the type of individual Republicans need to rally around. This has certainly damaged Governor Palin’s standing, as far as I’m [...]
