With every day that passes it is becoming clear that the Democrats are saddled with a highly unpopular President and even less popular agenda. Americans are crying out for the leadership offered by Republicans while the Democrats prospects are tethered to a sinking ship and tanking popularity. This remains a conservative country opposed to the liberal agenda.
its pretty clear that the dems over-the-top promotion of obama’s numbers are not justified. his approvals numbers are not great by comparison, bush was at 63% at this point. carter was in the 70s. 4 years is a very long time in politics, and at this spending rate he will be well into the 40s in time for 2012.
I do not pretend to be a professional pollster, but it sure seems that Mr. Obama’s honeymoon is coming to an end if it is not already over in my corner of the country. A variety of moderate Democrats and moderate Republican (i.e. swing voters) who only a month ago were speaking highly of Mr. Obama only a month ago are pretty quiet lately. For the most part (they have not started to bad mouth Mr. Obama, but the praise has pretty much come to a stop.
Yes! This is relevant because every president started his term under identical circumstances. Remember how Lil’ Bush inherited 2 expensive wars and a gutted, tanking economy from Clinton?
Won’t stay that way forever but the president has our measure the moment and as long as we keep giving him gifts like Rush & Hannity he will keep eating us for breakfast and make us look like amateurs.

i remember carter coming into office in the wake of republican scandal, and unpopular war, and a floundering economy. i remember him having 62 senators and a 140 seat plus lead in the house. i remember him being championed as a new JFK and an agent of change. i remember him raising taxes, appeasing dictators, and growing government. i remember his early approval ratings in the 70s. i remember the disaster that ensued.
keep hoping that you can blame bush for everything. it worked so well for carter with nixon against reagan.
“keep hoping that you can blame bush for everything. it worked so well for carter with nixon against reagan.” Yes Tim, these characters like to remind us how the Jimmy Carter story began, but they do not tell us how it ended. BTW, 60% approval for a new President is not particularly great in relative terms.
Max, this is an incredibly relevant and greatly important graph.
If, as Caroline attempts to argue, this mess is Bush’s, then voters would see it that way.
Obama’s numbers are on a downward spiral because Americans don’t approve of the way HE is handling this crisis, regardless of whose fault it is.
(Oh and, by the way, it wasn’t inherently GOP or Democrat policies that caused this economic meltdown. It was American habits of individuals incurring more debt than we could handle, and specifically mortgage debt. When the bills came due for our extravagant lifestyles, the wheels fell off the bus.)
I still think it a bad reflection on the electorate that this Socialist is at 56%. For him to be over 25% is disgraceful. Those on the receiving end of Socialism should be the only ones for this guy now. Unfortunately that number is getting higher by the week.

Me either.

Obama is at mid 60′s (after two bad weeks).
The republicans are at mid teens.
Face facts guys.

“Remember how Lil’ Bush inherited 2 expensive wars” Right I suppose that Mr. Bush was the one who fly the planes into the twin Towers.
