2012 Preview? Obama and Palin to Share Stage on Saturday Night

Politico has the details:

In what could be a preview of the 2012 presidential race, Sarah Palin and Barack Obama will share a stage together this Saturday night in Washington, Politico has learned.

The Alaska governor and former GOP vice presidential nominee, making her first trip to the nation’s capital since the election, will join the president at the Alfalfa Dinner, a venerable gathering of the city’s political elite.

The president is scheduled to address the black tie crowd at the Capital Hilton. Palin spokesman Bill McAllister said in an email that Palin would be speaking at the dinner.

An Alfalfa Club member, however, said that no speech by the Alaska governor was planned.

The duo would not, though, be heard by the general public. By tradition, the old world gathering, now in its 96th year, bars reporters. Quotes from the rostrum do, however, tend to find their way out to reporters in the lobby.

  1. Martha M Says:

She said she’s going because Obama will be there, and to represent Alaska, or course.

    Of course.

  2. Sean M Says:

Any one of the people pictured to the left could have been a potential 2012 preview.

  3. nate Says:

I’m searching Firefox plugins for a Palin filter right now.

  4. Falz Says:

2012 preview? i hope not; also i wanna to say, also, that would be better if any of them would participate in 2012, also….and also too i hope, also, that Sarah Palin get a 50 dollars fine everytime she say also, finally, also, mmmm that Barack drop a few mmmmmmm from his vocabulary also.

  5. Flip Dixon Says:

I think no matter what Palin does, there’s always going to be people who assume it’s part of a sinister scheme to run for President in 2012.

It’s her job to represent her state. She’s famous, so what’s wrong with using her fame to expand her influence? Nothing scandalous about it.

I’m guessing she’s not running, which will be good news for Huckabee.

  6. My2Cents Says:

#3. If it works as well as the Nate filter I downloaded, don’t waste your time. :-|

#1. Unlike Mitt Romney, Gov. Palin actually has a responsibility to her state.

  7. Martha M Says:

Flip, she’s done everything but hire a skywriter. She’s running.

Her Alaska approval ratings just came out today: 63/31 favorable/unfavorable. Not bad considering the press she gets from the media; everybody keeps saying her approval ratings will go down once oil prices go down, but they’ve already been falling the last four months already and if anything, they’re likely to go back up with Obama at the helm. It sounds like she’s going to get some good stuff done this legislative session (in-state gas pipeline, death penalty, getting the state started on some alternative/renawable energy projects, and utility consolidation to reduce the electricity costs around Alaska).

If Alaska can somehow fight off the Obama recession from arriving in the Last Frontier, then that will be a feather in her cap and a strong point she can bring to the table in 2011/2012.

  9. American Ideals Says:

“If Alaska can somehow fight off the Obama recession”

You mean the Bush recession, right? Unless Obama was mind-controlling the last eight years of government….

  10. FredsFighter Says:

Obama was mind-controlling the last eight years of government

I knew it!! Everyone made fun of me when I tried to point it out, but here’s a confirming opinion! Thank you!

Ha!. “Obama recession”. Is that what Rush is calling it?

  11. Illinoisguy Says:

Palin’s was practically ecstatic in proclaiming how she was so proud to call Obama her President in a recent television interview. Seems to me, she’s just a tad too cozy with the bum. Do I show a lack of respect for Obama? Absolutely, I have none whatsoever. And personally, it really, really bothers me that Sarah would like to be seen with him on SNL. Doesn’t she know she is just feeding the MSM more and more fodder?

  12. GetReal Says:

#9 I prefer to call it the Pelosi/Reid recession, as their wasn’t one until they won in 2006.

  13. marK Says:

Politco is quite correct. It could be a preview for 2012. It also could have been a preview if Huckabee was up there, or Romney, or Sanford, or Pawlenty, or any other of the guys listed on the left.

  14. Flip Dixon Says:

#13, yeah, but the media desperately wants Palin to run, purely for the entertainment value.

  15. marK Says:

    #14,

Oh, I don’t know about desperate they are. They certainly don’t want anyone with the gravitas to defeat Obama, that is for sure. They supported John McCain, remember, right up to the time he secured the nomination, and then the long knives came out.

  16. Martha M Says:

They have to want Palin. She gives them more material than Huck, if that were possible.

  17. Martha M Says:

Illinois, of course she knows! She has to stay in the spotlight, even if it is harsh. She needs to keep her base revved up. They don’t care that she’s not qualified, and they don’t care how many sentences she mangles. They don’t care that she knows next to nothing about the issues. They are positively immune to reality when it comes to Palin.

  18. Martha's dead right Says:

BTW – Illinoisguy, I’m changing my name. Someone here said it the other day and I thought it had a nice ring to it. Since Kristofer is always accusing me of posting under different names, I thought – what the heck? ;-)

  19. Michelle meets Sarah Says:

Let’s hope Michelle O. tells her off.
Where is Michelle when you need her mouth and chutpah??

  20. Michelle meets Sarah Says:

    *chutspah

  21. Illinoisguy Says:

    Yes, Martha I gotcha!

  22. OHIO JOE Says:

“Since Kristofer is always accusing me of posting under different names, I thought – what the heck?” Kristofer has not been here for a while.

  23. Flip Dixon Says:

You mean Martha M and Illinoisguy are different people?

  24. Illinoisguy Says:

lol, yeah, I don’t even know her. Are you a different guy than Adam G? You both grind your axes on the same strone.

  25. OHIO JOE Says:

I have no doubt that Adam Graham, Martha M, Flip Dixon and Illinoisguy are all different people. None of them are trolls. However, I do have a suspicion that another person (woman) on this site is at least more than one person. If I really want to be conspiratorial, I am not totally convinced that this same character pretended to be a Huckabee woman from Ohio (fortunately, a different part of mine, haha) about 6 months ago. But hey, it would not be the first time I got sucked in to arguing with trolls.

  26. Richard M Says:

#1 “She said she’s going because Obama will be there, and to represent Alaska, or course.

    Of course.”

…and your point is? That (gasp) a politician would self-promote and not explicitly say so?
