From ace.mu.nu. My ideological problems with Arnold aside, it’s genius. Also, note towards the end, when Arnold says “Our Democracy is not for Sale!”. Why in the world didn’t somebody in Team McCain harp on that angle? Maverick campaign finance maven, railing against outrageous big spender who has an enormously shady campaign donation system? Sigh. Oh well, enjoy the vid.

That was really excellent, well worth watching the whole thing. Say what you will about some of Arnold’s policies, but he can give a hell of great stump speech. See his 2004 RNC address as well.

I think Arnold making an excuse for his sales tax increase was kind of weasally: ‘not everyone who hikes taxes is socialist’… His explanation may have sounded more palatable correlating it to inflation as well as budget deficits, but the rest of the stump speech was pure ahnold.

This is the unspoken essence of the election.
It’s extremely odd that a few days before the election, a moderate Republican gives the essential argument for electing John McCain.
If McCain had used this argument a week ago we’d probably be leading Obama by now.

“Why in the world didn’t somebody in Team McCain harp on that angle?”
That’s a good point. Especially given the fervor with which he went after Romney in the primaries for overspending him, this should have been a no-brainer.
Good stuff from Ahnald.

” think Arnold making an excuse for his sales tax increase was kind of weasally: ‘not everyone who hikes taxes is socialist’”
Weasally? I thought it was an intellectually honest statement that made what followed much more credible.

Ryan, in comparison to what Obama proposes, what Arnold has done is relatively mild. Though, the budget deficits are in part his fault from the past few years as well as the legislature’s fault. I’m glad he’s finally taking a harder stand now with his restricting budgets.

Why sylvester stallone and Ahnald never shared the stage stumping for McCain is beyond me.

Ryan,
When I first heard the stump speech, my brain didn’t hear the ‘temporary’ part of the sales tax increase. That is a lot more acceptable than when I first mistook for a permanent increase.
