  1. Jeremy Says:

    Bounce has stopped.

Obama still polled better than he had been prior to the convention, but not as well as he was polling on the individual nights of the convention.

All he got up to was +8 over McCain. He increased 5%.

  2. Kristofer Says:

This is about the same polling as two days after the Berlin speech. Now we have an exciting VP candidate and a Convention coming up.

  3. EricB Says:

These are margins that Obama had just a couple of weeks ago. No big deal.

  4. sampo Says:

Hurricane Katrina II looms. Democrats make like a Pat Robertson and praise God.

The GOP bounce could be pretty much nonexistent with a Category 4 Hurricane bearing down on New Orleans. It’s expected to hit Tuesday, the day before Palin speaks. The convention better be darned good.

  6. sampo Says:

big s makes like a democrat too :)

  7. EricB Says:

This whole Hurricane Katrina 2 business is going to backfire on the Democrats. The Republicans running Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas will handle things just fine. It’ll show the contrast between Jindal and Blanco and be a disappointment for the Democrats. I don’t think it’ll win any votes for McCain, but it’s not going to be something that sends people flocking to the Messiah.

  8. Bryan Says:

Yea I hope they will postpone the convention until Tuesday or Wednesday, McCain said he is open to the idea of doing it that way.

  9. sampo Says:

if minnesota throws a fit, then i say lets move them to the superdome in a couple weeks!

omg, was that as brilliant as it thought it was?

  10. Jeremy Says:

I really hope the postpone the convention. Is it possible to hold it the week after or is that a logistical nightmare? If it could weaken and hit Monday night, early Tuesday morning, I think starting the convention on Tuesday is a good idea.

  12. MetroRepublican Says:

Let Bush speak on Monday as planned and the hurricane diminish press coverage of him.

  13. Jeremy Says:

Let Bush speak on Monday as planned and the hurricane diminish press coverage of him.

Absolutely not! Do you remember Katrina? If Bush speaks as a hurricane sweeps into Louisiana, we once again will have people saying Bush is incompetent and does not care. We cannot afford bad PR.

  14. Craig Says:

    Listen folks,
The GOP cannot be partying while a Category 4 or 5 hurricane is destroying the Gulf Coast. Bush cannot be in St. Paul. Jindal cannot be in St. Paul. Barbour cannot be in St. Paul. Perry cannot be in St. Paul. The delegations from these states also cannot be in St. Paul. Are you seriously kidding ? Katrina was a 3!. The Convention HAS to be rescheduled. The problem is 3-4 days later, we may have Hannah in Florida. This is a major problem folks. Do not kid yourself.

  15. AC1 Says:

Metro is onto something. If the convention is shortened, then Bush and Cheney will not be able to speak. They will be too busy dealing with the hurricane. McCain will be lucky to come out of Monday night even due to the Bush and Cheney speeches.

  16. AC1 Says:

I agree Bush can’t speak and has to be seen dealing with the Hurricane. That is the excuse for him not speaking at all.

  17. Jeremy Says:

How about we postpone the convention and replace Bush with Secretary Rice.

  18. MetroRepublican Says:

Good point. Let him just not speak!

  19. Jeff Says:

No Bush and Cheney at the convention? Works great for me…

  20. MarthaK Says:

Not have the Republican president kick off the REPUBLICAN convention??? Crazy.

  21. sampo Says:

    Kavon,
your picture needs updating. Obama is not gaining, he stalled:

  22. AC1 Says:

It is just too bad that Bush can’t speak at the convention because he has to deal with a national emergency.

  23. EricB Says:

    #21,

Yeah I thought something was wrong about that graph. I was counting back the days on it to see where the Obama bounce began, and nothing made sense. Glad to see that Obama stalled. He might have even dropped a little bit.

  24. Jeremy Says:

Listen, do you guys really think it is a good idea to have a guy with 30% approval rating speak?

  25. matt Says:

its up to sarah. if she performs, if she answers the tough questions, if she debates well, then its all good.

if she makes a mistake, like saying there are 57 states, they will come down on her with such force it will be unlike anything we have ever seen.

  26. The Wiz Says:

How to you count the “bounce” ? Is Obama up 4 from a couple of days ago or is it 8 points, the spread. Thanks

  27. Brendan Antoine Says:

you gus are overhyping a hurricane. Guess what would have happened if it had hit during the Democratic Covention.

  28. Faye Says:

Wasn’t there a problem with having the republican presidential and vice presidential nominee appear on the ballot of some states who had a deadline for filing that conflicted with the late date of this convention? If that is the case this needs to be address before any serious talk of postponement.

  29. Faye Says:

    Opps, addressed

  30. Falz Says:

How many Judas and Brutus are in this forum. Amazing.

Bush need to speak in the convention, he can declare victory in Iraq.

  31. Joshua Says:

Kavon: There was an item on this blog that showed Geraldine Ferraro talking about how she was pleased that McCain had selected a woman as his running mate. But it’s gone now.

Oddly enough, all of my comments on this blog over the last couple of days have disappeared (and I don’t think I was posting any kind of objectionable messages). Hopefully that was just a glitch and this one will break the streak.

  32. wirepmp Says:

Let Bush give his talk from a FEMA bunker on the Gulf Coast.

  33. MWS Says:

I said +9. Right now he is +8. I think tomorrow is the official cutoff?

  34. Rod Says:

We are going to have to move this Convention up a week. There is now way we can have a convention when a hurricane is hitting the Gulf Coast.
