  1. KnightHawk Says:

    Perfect.

  2. Cp Says:

Wow…don’t underestimate her. This is a chance for the Republicans to put energy front and center…And for her to look like an “expert” out of the gates…

  3. Cp Says:

I would put her front and center on financial news shows and on daily talk shows. She would look great and what a way to reach out while at the same time avoiding the everyday politicos.

  4. Josh Says:

    wow, she’s impressive.

  5. Au standard Says:

the dems are hoping for dan qualye…wow they are not going to get it

  6. MetroRepublican Says:

Two new words for your lexicons:

    Saracuda

    VPILF

  7. Hunter Says:

    Grr. My comments keep disappearing…

I really hope the Dems continue to dismiss her as some sort of ditsy “beauty queen.” That sets the expectations so low that all she has to do is appear to be halfway-knowledgable and she hits it out of the park.

  8. Hunter Says:

I was listening to some talk radio show yesterday and they were playing Sarah Palin’s speech yesterday over Heart’s “Barracuda.” Great stuff. Knowing the Republicans’ luck with musicians, the band would probably threaten to sue if the GOP tried to make an ad out of it, but it was good stuff.

  9. Kristofer Says:

She is a tough lady, she is going after Biden! ha!

  10. Bryan Says:

Still steady in the new Gallup Poll today with Obama at 49 and McCain at 41.

  11. sampo Says:

the bay of fundy has the largest tides on the continent (and world). is that how alaskan natives talk? she has what my wife would call “the ‘Fargo’ accent”.

  12. Kristofer Says:

Yeah, the Gallup bump stopped as well!

40 million people watch the Obama speech and he did not move!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Go Palin!

  13. AC1 Says:

    From Gallup today:

“On this day — with strong partisan forces pushing the public in both directions — Obama still polled better than he had been prior to the convention, but not as well as he was polling on the individual nights of the convention.”

It looks like Obama should head back down starting tomorrow.

  14. Kristofer Says:

    Gallup; Obama dropped on Friday.

“Obama still polled better than he had been prior to the convention, but not as well as he was polling on the individual nights of the convention.”

  15. Cp Says:

Wow…it must have been a great polling night for McCain given the base include 2 huge nights for him the days before (remember this is a rolling poll and you can look at the trends to get an indication of the polling the night before). Rasmussen was just on Fox too and said that Palin effectively stoped the Obama speech momentum based on the internals of his polls.

  16. Hunter Says:

Obama and Biden looked pathetic yesterday. The footage of them standing outside whatever building in Pennsylvania, looking like they were irked that McCain had stole their thunder the morning after the Single Greatest Speech of All Time. They had absolutely nothing meaningful to say, Obama uhh’d and umm’d his way through his statement, and had to dismiss his campaign’s initial response/attack.

This is going to be fun.

  17. David A B Says:

Still skeptical about the pick… but she’s quite compelling when speaking about the energy issue. Loads of common sense.

  18. sampo Says:

mccain is still getting clobbered among female voters. i feel that will change soon. so far there hasn’t been a palin bounce just as there was no biden bounce. we have an excuse in the wake of the dnc. what’s obama’s excuse?

  19. KnightHawk Says:

#16 Yes her looked kinda pathetic and at a total loss for words with all the uh,umm, ahh in those clips, it wasn’t like he didn’t want to say something it’s like his internal political filter was just stopping him from saying what he was about to.

  20. sampo Says:

    beautiful!

  21. KnightHawk Says:

    #19 = Yes HE looked…

  22. Kristofer Says:

So I wonder what Obama will do now after he spent all that money in Alaska and the campaign offices he opened? ;)

  23. EricB Says:

Great news from the Rasmussen and Gallup polls! Obama never broke 50%, even including leaners at what should be the peak support of his campaign. I think McCain pulls even with Obama after the RNC next week, then it’s a battle going into September and the debates. Palin is going to blow Biden out of the water in the VP debate. Now it’s up to McCain to get Obama. My money is on McCain.

  24. Kristofer Says:

I am in utter shock Obama never broke 50%? Holy smokes!

  25. AZVet Says:

    I LOVE HER!

  26. David A B Says:

Here comes the next meme: Obama’s clear discomfort with strong women. He was dripping with condescension towards Hillary, and according to Politico called Palin “…a fine mother… and an up and coming public servant” on 60 Minutes. Goodness gracious – I think there’s a “there” there.

  27. Joel Says:

unfortunately reporters are going to go out of their way to trip her up on foreign policy, like they did to Bush in 2000

even if she is an expert on domestic issues, she needs to be fully versed and confident in foreign affairs before she does interviews

but yes, I love this video and anyone that underestimates her is asking to get steamrolled

  28. Kristofer Says:

what did Obama say about energy the other night? ;)

  29. Joel Says:

The GOP just needs to postpone the convention one week, if our GOP governors handle this storm well (and I have no doubt they will), it will be a triumph we can tout at the convention the following week.

It’s just crazy to continue on with this.

  30. Cp Says:

Financial networks and puffery daily talk shows is an excellent way to reach out and avoid being “trapped” on foreign policy.

  31. Pisces 11 Says:

It’s time for all us to stop being skeptical of McCain’s judgment. We need to win this election. It’s nice to see a new face that is young in the Republican Party.

  32. Thomas Says:

    http://www.mccainblogette.com/

This site has been linked before quite often, but I think it has a good behind-the-scenes look at the announcement event yesterday…

  33. sampo Says:

am i the only one enjoying watching the fit that that andrew sullivan is throwing since mccain announced palin?

  34. Hunter Says:

#33: You’re not alone, my friend. It’s glorious.

  35. Kristofer Says:

#32, do you see her feeding the baby. There are over 100 million women who have or are doing that. :)

  36. Hunter Says:

I think we may have negated Obama’s advantage as far as cute kids go.

  37. DaveG Says:

am i the only one enjoying watching the fit that that andrew sullivan is throwing since mccain announced palin?

He initially approved of her and even seemed somewhat excited that the Republican Party had nominated someone other than a southerner or Rove Republican. Then he realized the pick might hurt Obama and has been going crazy ever since. My favorite of his comments in the last 24 hours was when he suggested that the powers that be might try to pull Palin from the ticket because of inexperience. He really is worried.

  38. KnightHawk Says:

They really should at push GOP convention a week; or at least reschedule the start to Tuesday or Wednesday instead of Monday.

  39. Kristofer Says:

Well, the Evangelic supporters are on board, big time.

  40. Glo Says:

Finally, another MargaretThatcher or a Chancellor Merkel is finally emerging from a horde
of women politicians who are mostly contrived and decorated and made up. how about a
Hillary, Sarah bout in 2012? ‘ Can’t wait it will be such great fun and I be betting for t
    the Barracuda.

  41. Dizzy Says:

    In the Rasmussen crosstabs-

Among undecideds, 9% more likely to vote for McCain/Palin and 31% less likely.

    AWFUL CHOICE

    EPIC PANDERING FAIL

  42. sampo Says:

go cry on andrew sullivan’s shoulder there dizzy

  43. EricB Says:

    #41,

That’s probably due to Obama’s speech linking Bush with McCain more than anything else. It would be the case no matter who he picked.

  44. EricB Says:

Anyone have a link to Andrew Sullivan?

  45. KnightHawk Says:

http://www.mccainblogette.com – wow those are some great photos from yesterday.

  46. Joel Says:

trying to analyze these polls while the race is so dynamic (the storm, Palin, the conventions) is crazy, we will just have to wait untill all of this settles down

  47. EricB Says:

We’re probably looking at another 2 weeks before things really settle down.

  48. sampo Says:

is this really the terrible ad i think it is?!

    AWFUL CHOICE

    EPIC PANDERING FAIL

HAHAHA! The first evidence that she is, indeed, a terrible choice for VP. Not only is she unqualified, but she’s scaring people away.

  51. MarthaK Says:

Those Rasmussen numbers are horrible – maybe it will change once people learn more about her? Where is she this weekend – is she out campaigning and speaking?

  52. IR-MN Says:

If it hasn’t been said, let me congratulate Adam and Kris for their job well done. The entire party and country owes them a debt of gratitude.

  53. Big S Says:

Those Rasmussen numbers are horrible – maybe it will change once people learn more about her? Where is she this weekend – is she out campaigning and speaking?

It’s only going to get worse – Democrats are going to spend the next two months highlighting the negative aspects of her record. She has one shot to make a good impression at the VP debate, and her fans better hope that she doesn’t get outclassed by Joe Biden.

  54. Cp Says:

    http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/election_20082/2008_presidential_election/palin_makes_good_first_impression_is_viewed_more_favorably_than_biden

Looks like she is more positive than negative…Don’t misuse the data…

  55. Kristofer Says:

#50 and #52, wait for the speech next week. But in the end she energized the base and that is the most important point!

  56. Cp Says:

Rasmussen said himself on TV that she has stoped the Obama bump based on his polling

  57. IR-MN Says:

BigS, you’re a duplicitous hack. Just b/c one of your liberal heroes didn’t get picked doesn’t mean you need to be a dbag. Everyone within the GOP coalition loves her. #53 pointed this out. Sarah made a good first impression. It’s not everyday that metro and socons can agree on the same pick. Mac raise 4.5 mil just yesterday. The stage is set for her to completely change the campaign’s dynamic. Sorry you can’t even appreciate that.

BTW, Kavon, please look at your spam blocker, it’s eating legit comments.

We are being attacked on Palin’s “inexperience” and the McCain campaign is doing nothing about it. What is going on. We MUST respond.

  60. Big S Says:

Yeah, but the GOP coalition is shrinking fast. This will only accelerate its demise.

  61. Gery- Says:

McCain raised $4.49 Million online yesterday.

  62. Big S Says:

We are being attacked on Palin’s “inexperience” and the McCain campaign is doing nothing about it. What is going on. We MUST respond.

There’s nothing they can really do about it. They forfeited the experience argument. I pointed this out days weeks ago, but it fell on deaf ears.

  63. sampo Says:

mccain will assemble the most brilliant foriegn policy team washington (or the world) has ever seen. a monkey would be able to be commander in chief if needed.

  64. AC1 Says:

  65. Kristofer Says:

They are up over $7 million already.

  66. Opinionated Says:

She is charming. She is very articulate. She’s charismatic. She has the tools to maybe some day make a great President.

She will likely come out a draw politically as to the effect on this election. Unless she screws up somehow or if McCain is ever reported to have a headache, a cough or sneezes twice in a row,

In any event, McCain should never have nominated her in this point in the Nation’s history and in this point of her political experience.

Just answer honestly, if McCain is incapacitated in Dec 2008, are you OK with her making the decisions starting on Inauguration Day? And the truth is, that if she becomes President on that day, she won’t really be making any decisions, they will all be made by the Washington bureaucracy.

I desperately want McCain to win. I hope he wins and serves out his term to the last minute. But there is no excuse for putting the Nation in this much risk.

If I thought the Nation should be put at risk, I would be less terrified of Obama.

  67. Kristofer Says:

    From David Brody.

“I’m telling you folks. The Evangelical base is revved up about this pick. A McCain campaign source told me that there is so much excitement from the Evangelical community about this pick that it’s making their head spin. This source told me, “The event at Saddleback was the baking of the cake. Sarah Palin is the frosting.”

  68. Big S Says:

    #63:

Among Democratic women — including those who may be disappointed that New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton did not win the Democratic nomination — 9% say Palin makes them more likely to support McCain, 15% less likely.

Palin scaring the PUMAs away? I never thought it could happen!

    /sarc

  69. Kristofer Says:

Big S, do you want to know what Clinton supporters are thinking? They are crying with happiness.

    http://www.hillaryis44.com

  70. AC1 Says:

1 in 10 Hillary supporters being more likely to vote for McCain is very good. These are Democrats.

  71. Kristofer Says:

#69, yes, that wins and election.

  72. Big S Says:

    #68

Those are a few comments on a blog. You’re delusional if you think opinions on blogs can be extrapolated to the general electorate.

  73. Big S Says:

    #69, #70

It’s common for voters to support the other party’s nominee at rates near 10%. What part of “net negative” don’t you understand?

  74. HearMeRoar Says:

Have you noticed that Sarah talks a lot faster than Obama and that she doesn’t, for the most part, have the excruciating pauses in speech like Obama?

I think her extemporaneous speaking skills far surpass Obama’s (and McCain’s too!.

  75. AC1 Says:

Also, the margin of error for such numbers as democratic women is very high as they asked very few in this poll. If the poll is based on 1000 people, D women may represent 200 people. That represents a very high MOE.

  76. Faye Says:

Why is it that when President Bush has long pauses and silences in his interviews, he is dumb BUT when Obama has all of his hems and haws he is being thoughtful?

  77. MetroRepublican Says:

Big S, the GOP coalition will not shrink because of Sarah Palin. Quite the contrary.

Why? She is INclusive, not exclusive. She is somewhat liberal on gay rights. She is not a Santorum, by any stretch.

  78. HearMeRoar Says:

32 & 35. Thanks for posting that link. And yes, that photo of Sarah feeding Trig struck a nerve. Pure gold.

  79. Kristofer Says:

metro is correct, the Alaska legislature tried to strip gay employees of rights and benefits and she said NO, and vetoed the bill. She also claimed to have gay friends.

  80. HearMeRoar Says:

I like it that more people have figured out how to use the quote block, but it still would be nice to add the number of the post that you’re quoting so I don’t have to waste time looking for the original post.

  81. Armeni Says:

Nice family pics on the Blogette of the McCain family, BUT where is their daughter Bridgette??

  82. Hunter Says:

Meghan McCain has posted pictures of her other siblings a couple times, but it looks like she’s the only one that’s been on the campaign trail with her dad the whole time. Maybe Bridgette’s busy with school?

  83. Heath Says:

“Gay friends” – that old chestnut!

She will have to do better than that to win indies.

And what happens if/when the debate moderator asks her whether she would counsel her 14 year old daughter to have an abortion if she was raped……..

I like her (honest) answer but if she gives it it may be Dukakis all over again.

  84. Sean M Says:

Obama/Biden were just pwned by the next Vice President of the United States.

  85. Glo Says:

The Sarah Palin pick certainly a letdown for the Obama high the MSM prognosticators
are so delighted about, but definitely no bounce for all the DNC hoopla!
