    Steady as she goes!

  2. Aron Goldman Says:

Some promising news to share on the economy…

US economy grew 1.9% in second quarter

  3. Aron Goldman Says:

Here’s the link to the full report.

  4. OHIO JOE Says:

That is good news in deed Aron.

  5. Bryan Says:

3 New Quinnipiac Poll’s out today just moments ago showing Obama ahead by 2 in Ohio and Florida, and by 7 in Pennsylvania. The poll was run July 23-29, so that would of been at the time Obama was getting huge coverage of his overseas trip, so i guess take it for what it’s worth.

  6. Gary Matthew Miller Says:

Yikes! We’re excited about 1.9% economic growth? Not only was it below expectations for 2.3% but it is well below the range where jobs and income are growing.

By trumpeting 1.9% we risk a reprise of the 1992 campaign where we tell folks (correctly) that we are not in a recession but that everything is A-OK. And with JMac fumbling on taxes again we are squandering a big opportunity to differentiate on a pro-growth prescription for the economy.

  7. OHIO JOE Says:

Yes it would be nice to have 3 o 4% growth, but that is not always possible. What we are excited about it that we are on a winning streak. A win is a win and we are recession free.

  8. Gary Matthew Miller Says:

I don’t even know what to say to that.

  9. Adam Says:

It doesn’t feel like a winning streak. Gasoline is still way too expensive. So is food. And inflation is a big deal too. The GOP would be wise not to talk up how good things are or our candidates are going to be painted as out of touch.

  10. OHIO JOE Says:

Adam & Gary: With respect, do you remember the 70s? Then tell me about inflation and high gas prices.

  11. Adam Says:

    Ohio Joe,

It doesn’t matter about the 70′s. 1992 was nothing like the 70′s – yet look what happened when the Republicans were seen as “out of touch” on the economy. Our only saving grace is that Obama has nothing even close to the “feel your pain” ability that Bill Clinton had.

  12. James Shultz Says:

I think that we are all missing something here. What has not happened yet. The VP pick and the debates.

Even though I think that McCain has the best polices and ideas. He needs to work on his presentation of them. Esp. in a format that will have two moderators.
I really do not want a Kennedy Nixon rerun with debates. Nixon said he could beat that guy in the debates.. Sad but with some true some people go on presentation and how someone looks over substance. One appeared energetic and the other lethargic

Him being African American will sad but true turn some off. (I say this from a prejudice standpoint overall, not Obama in particular) but some will look at age too, sad here as well.

I may get heat that I am not ra ra ra ra enough for McCain here, I may get emotions and bias…but I am trying to be realistic too. Meaning McCain needs to practice here and the campaign needs to do mock debates with him.

  13. Aron Goldman Says:

Rather than talking up how good things are, economically, the GOP would be wise to hit Obama and the Democrats on their persistent opposition to drilling and nuclear power. It is the sight of $4/gallon gas on every street corner which prevents us from touting an otherwise fundamentally strong economy.

To help solve the energy crisis and make America less dependent on foreign oil, do you support or oppose – Building new nuclear power plants?

    Florida
    Support 62%
    Oppose 29%

    Ohio
    Support 56%
    Oppose 34%

    Pennsylvania
    Support 58%
    Oppose 32%

To help solve the energy crisis and make America less dependent on foreign oil, do you support or oppose – Drilling for new oil supplies in currently protected areas off shore?

    Florida
    Support 60%
    Oppose 36%

    Ohio
    Support 64%
    Oppose 31%

    Pennsylvania
    Support 64%
    Oppose 30%

President Bush has lifted a ban on drilling for oil and natural gas in previously closed off-shore areas. Do you think Congress should go along and end this ban or not?

    Florida
    Yes 60%
    No 33%

    Ohio
    Support 62%
    Oppose 32%

    Pennsylvania
    Support 60%
    Oppose 33%

To help solve the energy crisis and make America less dependent on foreign oil, do you support or oppose – Drilling for new oil in the Alaskan national wildlife refuge?

    Florida
    Support 53%
    Oppose 42%

    Ohio
    Support 55%
    Oppose 40%

    Pennsylvania
    Support 55%
    Oppose 41%

  14. James Shultz Says:

The polls are good. There are alot of state in play it is “stunning” as one repub analyst said that McCain is in this, but keep in up and down the stretch he should cont to make this comp.

The race thing and the age thing I hope are not huge factors in this election. I hate these things both. Age for McCain should be about his heatlh which is good. Obama even though I do not like his politics as long as a person does not fit the steroytpes should not be an issue. Botth things suck in this country with sexism being next. If McCain picks a woman he may run into that.
