Poll Alert: CNN/Opinion Dynamics General Election Poll

CNN/Opinion Research General Election Poll, conducted June 26th-29th, 2008

  • Barack Obama 50%
  • John McCain 45%

With 3rd Parties:

  • Barack Obama 46%
  • John McCain 43%
  • Ralph Nader 6%
  • Bob Barr 3%

The poll, conducted June 26-29, surveyed 906 registered voters and carries a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.

I do not have access to the crosstabs, but I am absolutely pining to see the partisan breakdown on this poll.

McCain down only five in a CNN poll of REGISTERED voters? Well, I’ll leave it up to you to decipherwhat I think this poll is really telling us.

I hope that Nader support is true. Doubt it, though.

  2. logcabingop Says:

Since obama’s mortgage and rezko are about to hit the airwaves, these numbers will get close.

  3. Stephen Says:

    What do you mean, logcabingop?

  4. Aron Goldman Says:

Obama Got Discount on Home Loan

  5. Realist Says:

I fail to see how this is a story. I don’t see anything here that shows impropriety on either the part of Obama or of Northern Trust. Discounts are (or at least were) offered all the time on loans, especially during that time period. Prevailing rates at the time were 5.57% to 5.95, so 5.625 was not “unusually low.” As someone with more than a passing familiarity with the mortgage industry, I just don’t see how this remotely shows the Obamas did anything wrong or received unusual treatment.

  6. Realist Says:

Also, where is the impropriety in the way in which he purchased his home? He made several offers that were either refused or countered – anyone who has bought a house surely understands how this works. The home owner has said that Obama’s offer was the highest offer he received…so he took it. He paid prevailing market price for the 10-ft strip of the neighboring lot to expand his lawn. Where is the impropriety?

  7. Clarence Claus Says:

Kavon, I am not entirely sure, but I think this poll MIGHT be telling us that some liberals are upset with Obama not going on public financing. I know a couple liberals who are really distraught. These are people who are liberal purists and not Democratic party people, and they are upset with Obama for spending all this money on a campaign.

  8. Clarence Claus Says:

Sorry, I didn’t make it clear, the high Nader number might be because of liberals upset over the money thing. Rasmussen has shown the race roughly 49-44 for several days. I think this is about where it is.

  9. Richard M Says:

If Sen McCain only trails by 3-5% among registered voters, he’s probably ahead in the likely voter category, which is much more important. I’m convinced all this polling for Sen Obama is showing he’s a weak candidate in need of some help.
