Every empty arrogant phrase is strung together in a single cultish web ad. The repeated chants of “Obama” throughout the ad are just creepy. How could this appeal to anyone without a brain slug. If Obama loses the election, he ought to start a Hollywood celebrity cult (Obamianity/Obamology/Obamaism).

Got this from today’s NY Sun:
Senior legal adviser to Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign, Douglas Kmiec, has endorsed Obama.
Huh?

I’d like to order another round of Obama flavored Kool-Aid for everyone…

not Theo! Don’t tell me they got to Theo!

PabloZed – He (Kmiec) sold out his GOP and sanctity of life creds as a vote against the war. His work with Reagan and Bush Sr. far outshadow his brief stint on the Romney 4 Prez. effort.

Were all those people celebrities? I didn’t recognize most of them. Who was that character that said “the thing i like about Obama is that he won’t be the president of the most powerful corporations, but the president of US”? Because I think she’s inadvertently brilliant. Obama would be the president of hypnotized Hollywood elites. He’d attempt to accomplish all their fondest dreams; decimate our military, our economy, and our courts, while turning America into a wholly owned subsidiary of the European Union.

The droning “Obama” chant is really creepy. It’s not like a chant at a rally, which would be more like a “cheer.” It’s a chant that sounds more like an incantation. When the on screen personality stares into the camera and joins the incantation, with a vacuous look, it strikes me as positively Orwellian.
Did Oceania have a religion in “1984?” If it did, it’s rites must have looked something like this.

My favorite recurring snippet is “We are the ones we have been waiting for!” What does that mean? Did the rest of us get tired of waiting and decide to MoveOn.org? Or did we just jump line? Did the ones who gave up waiting just go in their undies? Mystifying.
It’s as if Generation Sesame Street were trying to come up with its own political demands, in an ephemeral, Zen sort of way.

Barack Obama… no substance and all style.

Did I see Theo from the Cosby Show?

I am no fan of Obama, but I think that’s actually a pretty good ad. I really don’t see what the problem is with the ad actually. It’s not creepy cult propaganda, it’s just good marketing.
March 31st, 2008 at 8:43 am
Jason, I think it’s actually a fan video, not a paid-for advertisement. I agree the production quality is very good. But the argument/advertising claim is touchy-feelie emotional rather than substantive: Vote warm, soothing feelings — Vote Obama! There’s something vaguely post-coital to it…

Thanks for that link Jeffrey.
Regarding ads generally this season, I love how voter/fan videos are attracting so much attention because it reflects not only the interest in the election but also the talents and creativity of our population. I can’t help but think back to the Obama/Apple ad that ran at the beginning of the campaign and how prescient it turned out to be.

This is one of the ads that “Will.i.am” (of the Black Eyed Peas) did. As far as I know, he doesn’t have any official connection to the Obama campaign…
The chanting throughout the video really is pretty creepy. When has this sort of devotion to a specific political figure ever ended well?
Oh, and why would I ever care what John Leguizamo has to say about anything?

There is as much evidence that Obama is God as there is that Jesus Christ was God…

MarkG,
I know it’s a fan ad, sure it’s touchy feely, I don’t know how that is a problem anymore than the the touchy feelies of McCain’s video in a military camp. Both have nothing to do with being president.

17, this obama video=the mccain POW videos? WOW!!!
March 31st, 2008 at 12:04 pm
Jason, the ad showcases Obama’s appeal as a Messiah for secular liberals. The ad presents him as an Avatar or a Prophet. It bothers me that people feel that way about a typical politician.
McCain’s POW ads don’t suggest he is anything more than a courageous patriot. I hope we still think having courage is relevant to being President.
March 31st, 2008 at 12:25 pm
Yeah, none of McCain’s POW ads suggest that he might be the Messiah.

All children, typical “white” people, and elderly persons were euthanized during the making of this video. Only twenty-something Hollywood types were spared as long as they chanted the party line.

Lame. Just lame.
It’s official. We can start calling him Chairman MAObama now, what with the larger-than-life signs and all.
