This is the final GOP daily tracking poll from Rasmussen for this cycle:
Rasmussen Reports Daily Republican National Primary Tracking Poll (Final 2/9)
- John McCain 55%
- Mike Huckabee 24%
Rasmussen explains their decision thusly:
Rasmussen Reports polling since Mitt Romney suspended his campaign shows John McCain leading Mike Huckabee 55% to 24% in the race for the Republican Presidential Nomination. McCain also leads Huckabee 724 to 196 in delegates and there is no viable path to the nomination for Huckabee. As a result, Rasmussen Reports will no longer conduct daily tracking polls of the race for the Republican Presidential nomination.
Yesterday, Rasmussen Reports received hundreds of phone calls and countless e-mails from Huckabee supporters indicating their disappointment with our decision. Many implied that we were being disrespectful to Huckabee and his supporters. That is not the case. We recognize that Governor Huckabee has run and is running a campaign that resonates with a large and important segment of the Republican constituency. He has greatly exceeded expectations because of his ability to reach out to this portion of the conservative coalition.
However, in our coverage of Election 2008, our focus moving forward will be primarily on the coming general election competition between Senator McCain and either Senator Obama or Senator Clinton.
On the Dem side:
Rasmussen Reports Daily Democratic National Primary Tracking Poll
- Hillary Clinton 48%
- Barack Obama 42%
Daily tracking results are collected via nightly telephone surveys and reported on a four-day rolling average basis. The general election sample is currently based upon interviews with 1,200 Likely Voters. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence.
And for the general:
- John McCain 48%
- Hillary Clinton 42%
- Barack Obama 45%
- John McCain 42%
Sen. McCain’s electoral might is evident here as he leads Sen. Clinton by 6% and trails Sen. Obama by only 3% (well within the poll’s MoE) as Rasmussen finds that the number of Americans that identify themselves as Democrats has reached a four-year high.

No surprise. It would be a waste of time and money.

Rasmussen reports really blew it this election season. McCain was virtually never in first place. And even when he was (such as after huge wins in SC and FL), he was never outside the MOE.
SurveyUSA is now the polling king.

Sampo, McCain has only gotten 5% more votes than Mitt Romney. He just got those votes in winner take-all primaries.

I hope Rasmussen fixes things before the general. He’s been good in the past, but he’s been horrible this year.
