Minnesota Sen. Norm Coleman Endorses John McCain

According to the campaign:

Senator John McCain’s presidential campaign today announced that U.S. Senator Norm Coleman has endorsed John McCain for president.

“I have had the honor to work with John McCain since I first entered the senate in 2002. He is an effective leader who is the best person to lead the fight against radical Islamic extremism,” said Senator Coleman. “John McCain is a committed conservative who will lower our taxes, stop wasteful government spending, and reduce the size of government. I am proud to support John McCain for president.”

John McCain thanked Senator Coleman for his support, saying, “Norm Coleman is a friend with whom I enjoy working in the senate. He is a results-oriented leader who has served the people of Minnesota with honor and integrity. I am honored to have his support. “

A courageous endorsement by Coleman, backing McCain from the outset, not caring about popularity or backing a losing horse.

Hmmm, perhaps he wants a visit from the nominee to help him regain his Senate seat. Why didn’t he support him back when Pawlenty had the guts too…?

  2. ThatLibertarianGuy Says:

    I second everything JayPe said.

  3. LJ Says:

    JayPe,

I agree with that. The fact that Pawlenty was one of McCain’s earliest supporters in 2006 and the fact that he never wavered from McCain even during the darkest days of the campaign during the summer. That will go a long way to getting on the ticket. Plus, the are extremely compatible electorally.

I really have to stop coming to this site.

You guys are no different that the MSM — already deciding who the GOP nominee is.

    It’s not decided yet.

The base does not want your candidate, LJ! They will stay home, vote third party or write in their choice and all the moderates and independents that have been making him the GOP nominee right now will abandon him come election day in November, if he is the nominee, especially when the vultures of the MSM, who lifted him to the place where he is now, are finished picking him apart and leaving him in hundreds of pieces.

Don’t think it will happen? Just watch! John McCain is the LIBERAL’S CHOICE for the GOP Nominee.

McCain has only himself to blame.

He could have spent the last ten years fighting for conservative legislation and conservative principles, but instead he has given his middle finger to the conservative movement over and over and over again and kissed Liberal Democrats’ asses and made liberal pacts and laws with them.

He is not just disliked by conservative Republicans, he is despised!!

David Frum on Tucker Carlson’s show regarding McCain:

    http://nyformitt.blogspot.com/

Frum explains that McCain does not like or love Republicans. He is trying to create a personal movement and is only using the Republican Party as his vehicle to attain his goal.

4, This site is like 70% pro-Romney, if you can’t handle the pro-McCain minority than don’t let the door hit you on the way out. I used to think you Rombots were unfairly slammed, not anymore. You’re all a bunch of sore losers who have to downplay everybody who doesn’t vote for your candidate.

  6. ThatLibertarianGuy Says:

Bethtopaz, oh please. Get over it. I know that you have an unhealthily serious crush on Romney, but it’s time to be honest with ourselves: McCain is our nominee.

  7. Illinoisguy Says:

Its not over yet, not by a long shot

  8. bethtopaz Says:

TLG – McCain is not our nominee!!

    Don’t drink the MSM Kool-aide.

  9. bethtopaz Says:

And, TLG, about the crush thing —

I don’t have a crush on any politician.

What I do have is a deep love for my country and my freedom.

McCain and the other liberal democrats are a tremendous threat to the freedom we now enjoy in this country.

Again I ask my Romney friends, where does he make his stand after Tuesday? Virginia? Maryland? Wisconsin? Washington State? Where?

    Bethtopaz and Illinoisguy are funny.
I wonder if they are really Mitt and Ann.
They REALLY cannot accept or deal with this loss !
Mitt is finished so please at least start accepting it
because the far righters like Rush, Ann, Laura etc are
ONLY 10-15% of the GOP !
    McCain is presidential.
    Romney is a loser.

  12. Irish Right Says:

    TLG,

Perhaps your nominee (although I doubt it), but certainly not my nominee.

  13. JayPe Says:

Can we please make a few facts clear to all the Rombots & Romnots:
    - John McCain is not the nominee yet
    - John McCain is very much in the box seat, has a large advantage, and is very very likely (almost certain, in fact) to be the nominee.
    - Rombots can keep supporting their guy until he drops out or wins the nomination. Thats democracy, thats fine. But don’t complain that JMac is almost certain to be the nominee. If he wasn’t, you’d be concentrating your fire on Huckabee. You’re not, so you know.
    - Romnots, please allow the Rombots to keep supporting their guy until he drops out. He’s still in the battle, even if he looks almost dead.

  14. Illinoisguy Says:

We don’t have to let McCain have it. We can at least take it to a convention and come out of it with someone suitable…..maybe even Mitt. If you remember, the Iowa Huckabee delegates were overwhelmingly Romney as second choice.

  15. Gary Matthew Miller Says:

I guess we need to add Coleman to the collaborators list.

  16. bethtopaz Says:

I just finished watching the Superbowl.

Everyone thought that the game was over and then the Giants had a fabulous comeback – in the last 2 minutes and 46 seconds.

It looks (to many, not me) like John McCain is the nominee and there’s no chance for Mitt.

Take a lesson from the Superbowl – anything can happen.

    We’re in the last 2:46.

I believe Mitt Romney can make a comeback!!

  17. Illinoisguy Says:

I was thinking about posting the same thing Beth. Great minds run in the same channel. :)

  18. DRS Says:

To answer the question as to why Norm waited, it’s because he was supporting Rudy this fall.
