    Go Rudy!

  2. Cricket Says:

    Isn’t this Illinois? Not California?

  3. davew Says:

    Romney = done

  4. Hobie Swanson Says:

I wonder if its Romney’s plan simply to get enough delegates so McCain is forced to broker a deal with Huckabee. With Romney saying, “You wanted him, you got him”.

    Probably too machavellian for Romney.

  5. Shawnie Says:

McCain will be the death of our shot of a Republican in the White House. Your victory is short-lived.

  6. Adam Says:

This is an IL poll. It was taken before Rudy dropped out and before FL.

  7. Jeff Fuller Says:

So essentially all of Rudy’s support went to Huckabee and Ron Paul (comparing it to yesterday’s Rass Cali poll).

    That seems a little weird.

Romney will pick up a lot of delegates in CA . . . but McCain should pick up most.

  8. Jeff Fuller Says:

    OK . . . didn’t notice it was a IL poll (mis-posted I guess)

  9. Jeff Fuller Says:

And Rudy got 9% in this poll . . . worse than Ron Paul. OUCH!

  10. bulldozer Says:

THis poll is not CA i dont think. Its taken on the same date as the last one that shows different numbers

  11. Illinoisguy Says:

Mitt can win Illinois!! That would be fabulous. McCain is in the hole by several million right now, even after he won Florida. Mitt is buying huge tv ads in California and 5 other states. Does anyone know if one of them is Illinois?

  12. Jason Bonham Says:

Rassmusen didn’t list how much of indies went for who. I am guessing 90% of indies vote for Obama, it’s his home state. I think Mitt can win IL.

  13. ThatLibertarianGuy Says:

    Go Paul! Woo.

  14. Cricket Says:

Illinoisguy…should be….lots of delegates and he’s clearly competitive.

  15. Illinoisguy Says:

    you’re right Cricket, sorry.

  16. Illinoisguy Says:

I’m starting to get excited again:

Mitt stomped him in the debate
McCain is in the red by several million
Mitt just bought huge ad spots in 6 states (so far)
The evangelicals are starting to go more for Mitt now

Mitt could surprise some people next Tuesday! :)

  17. Hobie Swanson Says:

#16 I thought he wasn’t buying any ads for super tuesday?

  18. MarkG Says:

Last night’s gabfest isn’t likely to change any of this.

Too bad I didn’t get to see the whole thing last night, but from what I did see and a review of the commentary here, I think JMac channeled my contempt for Romney. Mitt needs to be called onto the carpet for his hedged, triangulated equivocations. How could anyone claim to offer clear leadership who seeks to squeak through the primaries without committing to anything?

Mitt and the Choir Rombotique are miffed, and Mitt wore a miffed expression whenever he listened to JMac speak. Mitt was barely able to maintain his forced smile. JMac had a smug smirk, but he spoke with calm confidence (even when evading questions). When attacking Mitt, he kept that calm tone and pace without allowing Mitt to drown him out with peevish contradictions.

Mitt was mad as hell. And it was vindication to see Mitt finally receive the full-on assault he had his surrogates lavish on each and every competitor. He once again showed he could not stand to be on the receiving end of the very tactics he had commissioned others to apply to his adversaries.

    Sweet revenge.

  19. Jeffrey Says:

lol – Drudge has this on his page

FLASHBACK: MCCAIN: ‘I HATE THE GOOKS’…

  20. Adam Says:

    On Drudge…

NANCY REAGAN FOR MCCAIN, TOP SOURCE TELLS DRUDGE: ‘SHE ADORES HIM, AND IS FULLY SUPPORTING HIM IN HER PRIVATE LIFE. SHE WILL NOT PUBLICLY ENDORSE’…

  21. Adam Says:

    IL Guy,

“Mitt could surprise some people next Tuesday! ”

    WHERE?

  22. Adam Says:

    19,

Haha. I think McCain gets a pass on that remark.

  23. MarkG Says:

Oh, my absolute favorite moment from last night, because it was so telling, was near the end when JMac answered a question about something while slipping mention of “my opposition to timetables” in. The camera shot captured Mac’s profile with smirking Mitt in the background as he seethed and mouthed, “This is so obnoxious!” The façade was crumbling. Had the debate lasted another half hour, Mitt would have cracked as if subjected to waterboarding!

    Nice work, Johnny Boy!

  24. Adam Says:

    MarkG,

I didn’t see the debate last night but I saw clips of some of the exchanges online. I pretty much saw it exactly as you did.

After all that crap that Mitt threw at McCain in negative advertising, all the while Mitt played Mr. Nice Guy in front of the cameras, if I were McCain I’d smirk too.

I really really hate Mitt Romney and I’m thrilled that it is looking less and less likely that he will succeed in buying the nomination.

  25. Jason Bonham Says:

    MarkG,

Forget Mitt for a moment, and just think about what McCain is saying. It’s utterly problematic for the party. He is a class warfare, ant business pro-war guy. It will sink us. But all you can focus on is hating Mitt.

  26. Shawnie Says:

    #18 MarkG

Did you watch McCain’s expressions while Romney talked? I was embarrassed for McCain and for our Republican party. The way McCain acts and holds himself is degrading to our Republican party and our reputation.

It looks like McCain has it at this point but it will be demoralizing to watch McCain go against Clinton/Obama in a debate setting.

  27. Jack Says:

    #23 MarkG
You are right to some degree but, come on. There is plenty to say about Jmac if you want to get personal last night.

I have no noticed there are three kinds of people on this site:

    haters
    homers
    moderates

MarkG – you are a hater

  28. Adam Says:

I also don’t think that Mitt’s whining about timing of the “Timetable” issue is going to resonate with anyone. For a guy that can outspend all the other candidates put together and who has the backing of the entirety of the conservative radio and news outlets, he really comes across as a slang term that marries pansy and wussy.

  29. Adam Says:

    New Rasmussen National Poll

    McCain 32
    Romney 28
    Rudy 14
    Huck 11
    Paul 5

The survey was conducted in the hours immediately following Florida’s Presidential Primary.

    http://rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/election_20082/2008_presidential_election/california/election_2008_california_republican_presidential_primary

  30. Matthew E. Miller Says:

This is why it’s so fun to be a Republican; because we elect candidates on their not being “p*ssies”. I never have to worry that a desire for competence and seriousness will interfere with unbridled machismo.

  31. Adam Says:

Gah – dcratch 29. That’s the CA poll. I read it wrong. Sorry.

  32. Shawnie Says:

#25 and #27 That is what I notice too. They’re so focused on their hate for Mitt, that they’re not looking at what is coming down the road with McCain on top. Try a “Mac” truck right between the eyes. It’s political suicide for the Republican Party.

Are MarkG and Adam really Republicans? Curious.

  33. Jeff Fuller Says:

    Wow on the Rass poll.

Romney didn’t lose any support by losing FL.

I’d expect Mac to be up bigger nationally than that.

THIS WAS NOT A TRACKING POLL (they had to stop that to get Johnny back in the lead quickly, eh?)

  34. Jeff Fuller Says:

Oops for me on the Rass Cali poll.

  35. Adam Says:

    Matt,

That’s not fair. My not liking Mitt has nothing to do with the fact that he comes across as a p*ssy. It has everything to do with the fact that I don’t believe a word he says on anything and I think he has no core and will shift positions with the breeze. I specifically don’t trust him on national defense and I resent not only that he insults my intelligence by telling the other side what they want to hear and now pretends to be “true blue” but espcially that he attacks other candidates for positions he recently held.

  36. Adam Says:

No I read that Ras poll wrong. I don’t know the actual numbers but Drudge shows a preview of the new Rasmussen NATIONAL numbers with McCain at 30 and Romney at 28.

  37. Adam Says:

    Shawnie,

Yep. Believe it or not there are Republicans out there that don’t like your boy. In fact, If I lived in FL I’d say that I would be happy to join the 69 percent of Republicans that weren’t leaping to support Mitt.

  38. Shawnie Says:

Comes across as a “p—–” False
    He has no core False
Shift positions with the breeze False
Insults my intelligence – Actually it’s the intelligent and successful he mostly appeals to.
pretends to be “true blue” – Aw come on.

Adam, these hyperbole statements don’t come from rational observation, they come from hatred and/or jealousy.

  39. MarkG Says:

    Jack and Shawnie

Yes, I’m a Mitt hater. I’ve said that before, in particular since realizing that the Mittwitts consider anyone who dares criticize His Romness is instantly characterized as such, and probably then denounced as pathological anti-Mormon bigots.

You can have your way on that issue. :-)

  40. Shawnie Says:

“Mittwitts consider anyone who dares criticize His Romness is instantly characterized as such, and probably then denounced as pathological anti-Mormon bigots.”

That is not a true statement, but it is interesting that you put those words in our mouth about you….

  41. Adam Says:

    Shawnie,

I’m glad you think you’re the final arbiter of which opinions are valid. You might not think Romney comes across the same way I think he does. You’re entitled to think what you want – just like me. But just because you say “false” doesn’t make it so. This isn’t a digital 1 or 0 answer. Come to think of it – Mitt is the perfect candidate for you.

Hatred of Mitt? Absolutely! And I’ll admit it.

Jealousy? Not at all. I’m much happier being me.

  42. Jack Says:

    #39
    No.
Homer – Can only say good things about their candidates
Hater – Can only say bad things about other candidates
    Moderate – Can balance both

Moderates are more respected on this site. You choose.

  43. Shawnie Says:

    #37 Adam

I have no problems with someone not being attracted to Mitt or his platform. What we’re addressing is the rationale and methods you use. It doesn’t come across as objective reasoning. We welcome disagreeing with certain stands on issues, but you’re here bashing him on a personal level and everyone associated with him. It comes across as flailing. Who are you voting for? (So I can join the 60%+ or more Republicans not leaping to support him).

  44. Jonathan Says:

#42, Jack moderates get ignored more often than not. But IL and MO are must wins I think for Romney. If McCain sweeps those 2 plus CA and the New England states it is over

  45. Adam Says:

    Shawnie,

How did I bash anyone supporting him? Think what you want about Mitt. I’m not going to sway you anyway.

I’m voting for McCain. On Tuesday. In New York. I wanted to vote for Rudy for a year – but alas.

  46. Shawnie Says:

#41 “I’m glad you think you’re the final arbiter of which opinions are valid.” Again, false.

“But just because you say “p—-” doesn’t make it so.” I agree.

Would you please back up your observations with examples and info?

  47. Adam Says:

“Would you please back up your observations with examples and info?”

Okay. He looked scared of Giuliani in some of the debates. He employs gutter-like attack ads against anyone the he perceives as a threat and spends millions of dollars to get them on television. He doesn’t have the fortitude to admit he plays dirty when he gets called on it – like when he said “I never said it was amnesty”. That was a LIE. It has to be. Right? Didn’t he say “I’m Mitt Romney and I support this message”? He can’t have it both ways. At least when McCain makes a charge he sticks with it and has no problem levelling accusations to his opponent’s face.

He doesn’t have the courage to stand on principle where he disagrees with the GOP. Instead he hedges and either changes his position like a shift of the wind – or instead just changes his tone and proceeds in a lawyerly way to convince people like he was with them all along – when earlier it was assumed that he was “with” the other side. Rudy Giuliani didn’t become pro-life to win among national Republicans. Mitt Romney did. Mitt Romney was afraid to stick his neck out too far when the Iraq situation didn’t look like it was going well and he preferred instead to take a middle-ground position and be wishy-washy. That screams “wuss” to me.

I could go on and on but there’s little point in doing so. You’re not going to agree and quite frankly I don’t need to convince you because your guy is the one that needs his supporters to convince others more, considering his recent poll performance.

  48. Shawnie Says:

#47 I have to run, but just to comment on your last statement:

“And quite frankly I don’t need to convince you because your guy is the one that needs his supporters to convince others more, considering his recent poll performance.”

True, but you’ll be in that same position as soon as the MSM unleashes on McCain, whom they have been propping up for Clinton’s sake.

  49. John Galt Says:

the vitriol right now has reached new levels. it can be expected.

I think mccain came off badly last night. you wouldn’t konw it though from how the msm protects their guy. its too bad voters generally are so stupid. they let the msm and people making endorsements tell them how to think without making their own informed decisions.

that is what mccain relies upon. hey don’t look at my weaknesses, just look at who endorses me. would i be weak if these guys endorsed me? there are so many problems with that logicallly, but people are too stupid to understand that.
