Instead of “bring up immigration” I meant “keep the issue in the headlines”
They should go dark on immigration (the voters will realize that McCain still thinks his own plan is reasonalbe and will only grant amnesty once the borders are secure)
Jeff – I have a sneaking suspicion that JMac will have to defend his immigration stand in the very near future. We can probably talk after the next couple of NH Gov Romney ads comes out.
i love mccain’s holier than thou attitude. he thinks he can attack romney personally all over the place and then pretend like he is on the higher ground when romney has limited his attacks to policy.
mccain resorts to words like ‘phony’ and accusing him of dishonesty. so hypocritical.
and this is great, i agree, mccain bringing immigration up again and reminding us about his stubborness and willingness to poke us all in the eye when he thinks he knows more than us is just wonderful.
I think McCain’s new ad is very well done. He refutes Romney’s criticisms with the Governor’s own word (though he perhaps should have given the date/venue when Romney actually said it), plays up McCain’s trademark authenticity, and finally with his pledge that he will secure the borders, thereby heading off a counter-attack on the issue.
I think it will go up but not immediately. They will hold it until needed. I agree with Jeff, though, that JMac shouldn’t keep immigration in the headlines. And, the only word he quoted from Gov Romney was “reasonable” that doesn’t seem all that convincing to me but I have a major disdain towards JMac so I am probably biased in my evaluation.
That’s a great spot. I can’t believe he’s hesistating with airing it. If you’re going to call someone else out, as McCain is in this ad, I think you should have the courage to show up on screen and do it yourself. Not just have ubiquitous movie-voice-over guy do it for you. And McCain certainly looks like he’s giving you straight talk on this one.
Since Romney articulated the situation so much better than McCain, he would be foolish to his him on foreign policy or terrorism. Romney knows a tremendous about it already. This man studies like no one we’ve ever had before.
#12, don’t forget he finished 5th from the bottom of his class in the Naval Academy. Do we really want this guy to be the most powerful man in the world? I hope not.
McCain and Huckabee are resorting to personal attacks. Romney, who has attacked a lot recently, has alwasy been about attacking based on the issues. There is a big difference, and I think Mitt and his team need to exploit this.
What is McCain all about? Does anybody really know. In this ad he criticizes the guy he touted as a man of unquestionable integrity, insinuates that Romney’s not trustworthy because he’s “changed†on immigration, then admits that he’s changed on immigration.

I heard on Fox News this morning that this ad would not be aired … perhaps they are saving it for the next salvo from Gov Romney’s camp.

Yeah . . . McCain would be stupid to bring up immigration.
Just a reminder of why most Republicans can’t stand him.
Wise not to air it.

Carl Cameron just said “Huck-a-bust” on Fox News – Abe: you need to email Fox News immediately and get a cease and desist order against them.

Wow Mitt Romney really is a flip flopper, won’t sell well with voters keep reminding them of that!
McCain-Huckabee 2008!

Ray,
Not sure it will go up or not. Mark Halperin says that it’s “read to air.” So, I guess we’ll see.

Pasted from what I said earlier about this ad:

Nicely done.

When is Jmac going to attack Romney on foreign policy???

I love how reasonable = endorse/support to John McCain.

Wow, Kavon. We’ve gone to alphabetical with the power rankings? You must be as confused as I am…

No respect for McCain.

14 – After the Iowa caucus I think the power rankings will become much clearer.

Translation of the ad:
“I’ve flipped on immigration further and more recently than Governor Romney . . .you can respect that can’t you?”
Dumb move by McCain . . . again.

There’s no logic in what McCain does.

On #16. Did you make the same complaints in 2000 about George W. Bush? Not that he finished 5th from his class, but clearly he was no Rhodes scholar.
